Remix and Remaster? Perhaps part of GH2?

:)

I mean, wasn't one of the real beefs about GH was that it WASN'T remastered?

Hmmmm...

OMG! Haha, I was just looking for this version yesterday,  I guarantee this is old. I had this version on tape in 1992, but i lost the tape, my friend and I always loved the rawness of it, I wish the whole album sounded like that. Im a long time lurker here I just never post. I was about to start a request thread for this very song (version) haha. I am very happy.

u sure? axl really sounds like in old days..

That's because Axl and his new band re-recorded Appetite in 1999 so his voice was probably like it used to be then.

They re-recorded then entire album and took out "You're Crazy" & "Anything Goes" and replaced them with "You Could Be Mine" & "Patience"

Axl said the album sounded very 80s so he wanted to re-recorded with todays technology and his new band.

Whether or not this is from that version . . . . .

It's a different mix of the original version. I can't remember where it originated (US promo?) but this upload is better quality than the last one I had.

I really think this is a remix of the old GNR.

The title is Brownstone_1999 so I don't think it';s the original band

That's just what whoever typed it in called it.

Title: Re: Mr. Brownstone different studio version?

The lineup in 1999 was:

Josh Freese on drums
Tommy Stinson on bass
Paul Tobias on guitar
Robin Finck was on lead guitar

But Robin had left the band at that time to rejoin NIN Axl wasn't sure what he was going to do with his guitar parts only that some of them would still be on the rework of Appetite.

it's the orig band remixed, sounds almost identical to the orig to me apart from the intro

very possible

Doesnt sound much different to me. Still its always great to hear this. its my fave GNR tune....

Nice to know though that good old Axl spent so much time re-recording an album that couldnt be bettered, whilst we wait here, years down the line, for a new one.....

Timewaster? Surely not....

Cheers

Because he did different takes like all bands do while recording the song.

Timewaster ? Surely yes

No I meant the re-recording of Appetite he did with the new 'GnR'....

Why bother?

Why re-record Appetite ? I don't know I asked the same thing here the other day.

Someone said it would help them play the songs better live (which I don't understand how) that's what rehearsals are for, and what about the Illusion songs they played live, they didn't  re-record the Illusion albums but they were still able to play the songs live.

Read somewhere it was so he could release the AFD songs for soundtracks etc without having having to pay Slash etc royalties. Seems a bit wankerish to me.... But I really wouldnt be surprised.....

Strange thing is it sounds very modern there are also no backing vocals (that you can properly hear).

This doesn't sound like it came from a tape recording set up - also there is no reverb on the drums like axl said in rs 99. Furthermore it doesn't sound like duff on bass.

bound and determined huh? :hihi:

if that's not izzy at 1:18-1:35 & 2:42-2:59, and if the music after the intro isn't identical to the version on AFD then i have never heard that album. I can hear the backing vocals out of crappy computer speakers with no headphones and the volume turned down low, how can you not hear it? And I highly doubt Axl could redo that low voice of his from 20 years ago. If he can, sweet, but i don't think so.

Face it, this is a remix of the orig tune, prolly most definately by that Alan Niven dude.

Story over. Sorry, no post-1995 GnR here

Title: Re: Mr. Brownstone different studio version?
Post by: Neemo on March 02, 2006, 12:39:18 PM
another thing if it was Nu-GnR don't you think the solo would be a crazy buckethead one like on the 2002 tour and not a carbon copy of Slash's?

Title: Re: Mr. Brownstone different studio version?
Post by: Neemo on March 02, 2006, 12:54:05 PM
Also Axl uses different vocal patterns on that tune than he did in the 80's

Biggest one "worryin's a waste of my "FUCKING" time"

and Robins voice is way more raspy than the backup vocals are on that track. I take back the buckethead solo thing, robin does that one and he pretty much plays Slash's note for note, i had Brownstone confused with Nightrain  sorry.

Last point, they didn't use the cheesy guitar ending in 2002 either :P

Here's Mr. Brownstone from RioIII to compare
Mr Brownstone - RIR3 (http://s55.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2I1HKPW64FB093FX1QI8CWO16D)

It was a mistake that you changed the name to include 1999 and then acted like you couldn't reveal the super-secret source you got it from?  Mmmhmm.  I'll bet.

Just for my personal edification, are you deaf as well?  Because it really shouldn't be all that hard to determine that this is not New GNR if you actually listened to the track ...

Just to follow what has become the traditional back-and forth message ending between the two of us in this thread ... fuck off.

That is true... I still need to hear the new GNR's KOHD that will sound eerily similar to the version on the Days of Thunder soundtrack.

i sent him the track to see if it was legit. i got it a year ago on a cd with irs on it as well. i was told it was the re-recorded version of brownstone. i let him have it, figuring it would get passed around to a few people and we'd see if it was legit or not. i never claimed to be 100% sure as to its legitimacy, as i mentioned in a previous post.

IRS was the real deal. i got my account turned into READ ONLY over at that other forum for posting lyrics (that were probably about 90% correct) but not proving the song. then a month or so later when that shitty ass rip of IRS got out i contacted a certain mod and asked if i could be reinstated and was told that since my post had been deleted there was no way to see if i was telling the truth or not.

The only real difference is the drums. And the only difference with the drums is the lack of reverb. Axl sounds the same. I dont think its the new band.
Its like a unmastered or remastered version of the song.
