For my Avatar I used a pic of Nixon that I found on yahoo. But this was a problem as for some reason the person that hosted the pic was being charged for it. I really don't understand how this works. So, I used another pic.

Somebody has to pay for it.

So if you link to a picture, the person who has put it online might be charged for the extra bandwidth that your linking uses.

The person might have something like 10 Gb/month in his plan, but if lots of people link to the pics, maybe the account uses 15 Gb/month and somebody is charged for the extra five Gb.

That or the account gets suspended for reaching its monthly data transfer limit.

This is how it usually works with web hosts.
