GNR will be closing Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2006

The Portuguese pop band will be performing right after Sting and celebrating their 25 years career.

The Portuguese band GNR will be performing on the last day of Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2006. This year they are celebrating the release 25 years ago of their first single, ?Portugal na CEE?. They close the World Stage in great party style June 4th, following Sting.

Because of GNR?s performance, the World Stage will open the last day of the event at 6pm and only that day will feature one extra band.

For GNR, ?it is very important to participate in Rock in Rio-Lisboa?, especially considering the social project behind it. According to Rui Reininho, ?all initiatives of this kind should aim to help others instead of just making money?.

?And besides?, adds the band?s vocalist in a playful tone, ? it?s an incentive for the next 25 years!?

This band from the north of Portugal is one of the most important names in Portuguese pop music and its repertoire includes icons of the national music scene.

GNR hold the here to unequalled record of having produced two eponymous albums, recorded live at the ?Jos? de Alvalade? and ?Antas? stadiums. These two concerts were monumental successes, with around 75.000 attending the two stadiums for the first (and so far only) live concerts of a Portuguese band by itself.

As part of Rock in Rio-Lisboa, this band from Oporto will be celebrating 25 years of music with a concert where their legions of fans will be able to listen to the songs that have made history in Portugal.

?Portugal na CEE?, ?Piloto Autom?tico?, ?Sete Naves?, ?Dunas?, ?Efectivamente?, ?Bellevue?, ?V?deo Maria?, ?Morte ao Sol?, ?Sangue Oculto?, ?Ana Lee?, ?Sub-16?, ?Pron?ncia do Norte?, ?Mais Vale Nunca?, ?Asas El?ctricas? and ?Sexta Feira?, are a few of the songs which will be heard at the City of Rock during the closing performance of Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2006.

Thousands of GNR fans in Portugal will be sure to sing along to these songs, thus contributing to an even more exciting closing performance.

Following a series of albums, this week the GNR tribute ?Revisitados 25-06? will be released, featuring national artists in genres ranging from Hip-hop to Soul and Reggae such as Virgul, Guardi?es do Subsolo, Melo D and Expensive Soul amongst many others.

This evening the Revisitados live launch party will take place at the Jardim to Tabaco. The party is sponsored by SAPO and GNR will be present in order to ?endorse the project?.

What kind of a full name for a band is GNR anyway? Guess it's good Axl switched to using G&R...  Grin

One things for sure... GNR deserves to close RIR06  hihi

This is entirely ridiculous. ?It scared me for a moment as I was worried that Guns N' Roses wouldn't be performing at all and that GNR band spawned the rumour that Guns would be playing. ?GNR... hahaha... what a funny thing. ?hihi

Who's they? rant

P.S.
GNR stands for Republican National Guard (Guarda Nacional Republicana) and 25 years ago a band made a joke and used the initials as a short name, they are New Rock Group (Grupo Novo Rock). If i had money for two days i would see GNR twice in RIR06 Grin

It was funny.  Grin I'm tempted to make a band called CCR or something like that. It would get a lot of undeserved attention.
