Title: I.R.S Lyrics
Post by: 14 Yrs Of Silence on February 16, 2006, 12:59:11 AM
Anyone that might have a really good ear, if you could post as many of the lyrics to IRS as possible that would be awesome!!

Where are all the haters and doubters now???

not 100% correct:

IRS Lyrics

Gonna call the President
Gonna call in the Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

0:11
There?s not anymore that I can do
All the legions said to me
I?ll follow you
When you plead the fifth, that?d be anytime it?s true (the end of time, its true)

0:27
Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last time should have gone
All the rumors I can tell,
Something?s didn't work so well

0:37

Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
To all the luck gettin out of the wreck (debt)
A fact that you've got to hear worst yet
When I need another favorite I take
It means you might have been caught anyway
Can?t believe that I was out there at all***
Couldn?t see it coming all along

1:05
Well it?s true...ooh...I have,

Forgotten you
Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

1:24
Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna win and I?ll get outta your face
Readmitted with your morning anew***
With Police, hang over, and their headlines true now***
[Finck Solo]

1:55
I've been too sure to offer my help,
I set it up again dressed as somebody else
If I?m stumbling along the wall (road)***
Feel like I'll never get ya out of this song
Well I'm just too sad to kill
Maybe like I just walked in my skin
They'll be waiting on me I know
Like a broken record for so long

2:17
What can I do?
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private Eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna get myself the FBI.

2:33
ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you now it's true (it too)

[Bucket solo]

3:10
Gonna call the president
Gonna make myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

3:20
Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna win and I?ll get outta your face
Readmitted with your morning anew***
With Police, hang over, and their headlines true
3:32
There's not anymore that I can do

Most of that looks to be right, and everthing missing i cant make out either.. This song def seems to be about the old members, and axls time missing

It's still amazingly hard to make out some parts.

Here's what I'm sure is correct -

Quote
Is it true, what they say of you?

Gonna call the President
Gonna call a Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna lead the FBI

There's not anymore that I can do
With all the reasons that you gave, I'll follow you
So when you plea the fifth, they'll see the end of time is too

Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I'm sure I've known
Through all the rumors I could tell, some things didn't work to help

Well anyway, it feels the same

The lyrics posted by Howard2K were made by dave2k before he even listened to the CDQ version of the song.

I'm sure there's parts he'll change now that we have the demo in better quality.

Yeah, I agree.  Something tells me A LOT of the songs are going to be about that.

Not to go off topic, but what do you dudes thing Madagascar is about (sorry if its already been discussed).

I got the bulk of the first leak, so I'm gonna go back and do some more with this version. I have VERY good ears to detail...

Note: All the asterisks are indeterminable to me right now

Guns N' Roses - I.R.S

(Intro)

No, oh oh,
Is it true?
(*sounds something like "look at, say or you")

Gonna call the President,
gonna call with the private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna need the FBI.

There's not anymore that I can do,
all the reasons that you need, I'm tired of you.
So when you plead the Fifth and
in the end the charge is true.

Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong,
wouldn't be the last, I'm sure I'm gone.

All the rumors I can tell,
some things didn't work so well.

Well anyway it feels the same,
when you first told me you were gone,
so long ago, but I feel lead on
to all the bullshit that I'm in this wreck,
and that's the truth, now here's the word yet(?).

Wouldn't even amount to the things that I've paid,
you bend your mind, I'd be gone anyway,
there's (*no use knowing that you've done lost*),
You could see it coming all along.

Well it's true, oh,
I asked, but don't forget,
uh, oh!

Gonna call the President,
gonna call myself a private eye,
gonna need the IRS,
gonna get the FBI.

Gonna make this a federal case,
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
re-invent it with your morning news
where the (*truth hangs over*)
and your headlines too now.

*Finck solo*
Ohh, ohh.

I'll be there when you (*join yourself in my hell*),
I'll say this like I did when it's somebody else ,
(Get right!)
writing's somewhere on the wall,
pretending like I'll never get tired of this song.
(Get right!)
I'm just too tired to kill,
feeling like I've just walked in my shit,
could've been waitin' out here all alone,
like a broken record been on so long.

What can I do?
Oooh, ooh.

I'm gonna call the President,
gonna call a private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna need myself the FBI.

Ooh, what shall I do?
If I gave up on feeling,
it's like a crime you know it's truuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeee!

*Bucket solo*

Gonna call the President,
gonna get myself a private eye,
ooh, gonna need the IRS,
gonna get the FBI,

Gonna make it a federal case,
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
re-invent it with your word and your news,
where (*truth hangs over*) and your headlines, too.

It's not anymore that I can do...

IRS Lyrics (close, anyway)

Is it true?
What they say
Of you?

Gonna call the President
Gonna call a Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There?s not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I follow you
To when you plead the fifth, that?d be the end of time, its true

Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I'm sure I've known
Through all the rumors I can tell,
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

As when you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
Through all the muck (gettin out of this) debt
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Wouldn't even matter
To think that I'd pay
You made your mind up at home anyway
There's no use now in not getting on
Could've seen it coming all along

Well it?s true...ooh...I have,
Forgotten you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna win and drag it out in your face
Reacquainted with your morning news
With a (tweak) hangover, and the headlines true now
[Finck Solo]

I've been too sure to offer my help,
I should've looked again dressed as somebody else
Even like I done way more right than wrong
Even like I'm living inside of this song
Even like I'm just too tired to kill
Maybe like I just walked in my skin
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a phony wrecking ball so long

What can I do?
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private Eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI.

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it's true

[Amazing Bucket solo]

Gonna call the president
Gonna need myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna win and drag it out in your face
Reacquainted with your morning news
With a (tweak) hangover, and the headlines true now

OK Minzhu, I have a new pet peeev - people who claim to have very good ears for detail when on first listen I can spot a handfull of words that a) don't even make sense and b) are obviosuly wrong when you listen to the song.

I'm gonna post another version in a bit and hopefully we can build something out of it.

Feelin like I'm living inside of this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I just walked in my shit
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

I'm pretty damn confident of those corrections

After listening to this song a lot now.. it seems to me that he is talking about all the steps he would do before he decided to give this certain girl his love again....

I translated it the best I could....

Gonna call the President
Gonna call a Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There's not anymore that I can do
all the reasons that you gave, I follow you
so When you plead the fifth, that'll be the end of time plus two

Wouldnt be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldnt be the last I'm sure I'm on
All the rumours I can tell, Somethings didn't work so well

With any way it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
through all the emotions i learned to take
i'd have to say that this is the worst yet
wouldnt even matter, all the things I say
you made your mind up anyway
cant believe all the time i was led on
should have seen it coming all along

Well it's true... my god it was you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private EYE
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Theres no way that I'll get out of your face
repeat it with you're all alone
with the sweet hangover and ? now....

Oh Oh..

I've been to sure to offer my help
I set it up again dressed as somebody else
feel like stumbling on the the road
feel like I'm living inside of this song
Well I'm just too tired to kill
maybe like I just walked in my shit
They'll be waiting on me I know
like a broken record for so long

What can I do?
Ooh, oh.

I'M Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call the private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna get myself the FBI.

ooh, what shall I do
if I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it's true....

Gonna call the president
Gonna need myself a private eye
ooh, Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right there out in your face
rearrange it when your morning is noon?
and the police hang together, and their headlines true

There's not anymore that I can do....

There is already a post for this but these lyrics are a bit more realistic:

I should've looked again then at somebody else
Feelin like I've done way more than wrong
Feelin like I'm living inside of this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I just walked in my shit
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

That first line after Finck's solo is giving me headaches. I cannot figure it out. Most of you all are saying "I've been too sure to offer my help", but I'm not hearing it. Anyway, after listening to it for pretty much all night and day, here's what I'm up to:

Guns N' Roses - I.R.S

(Intro)

No, oh oh,
Is it true?
What they say of you?

Gonna call the President,
gonna call with the private eye,

So, oh ohh

Gonna call the President

Those are the closest lyrics so far it got rid of a lot of the obvious errors like "dressing up as someone else  :hihi:" etc

I been thinking you're too bad for my health - whoever got that one congratulations - that was the hardest line of all!

shit/share - nice call hard to tell on that one! - at least kill is gone too

Feelin like I just (walked) in my share
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

What can I do?
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI.

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it's true

[Bucket solo]

Gonna call the president
Gonna need myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face,
Read it daily with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true

There's not anymore that I can do

I wrote these up Friday night while buzzing from a big assed bottle of red wine:

No-o-o
Is it true?
?

Gonna call the President
Gonna call a Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There's not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I'll follow you
When you plead the fifth,
That'd be the end of time, its true

Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last time sure I've found
All the rumors I can tell,
Something's didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
Through all the motives ???
And thats the truth and here's the worst yet
When I need another new favorite I say
You've made your mind up at home anyway
And it's no use now we can't get it on
Really seen it coming all along

Well it is true ...ooh... I had,
Forgotten you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna win it right down in your face
Read about it with your morning news
With a sweet hang over, and their headlines too now

**Finck**

I bet you think I'm doing this all for my health
I set it up again dressed as somebody else
****THIS LINE IS HARD AS HELL TO WORK OUT DUE TO OVER LAYERING****
Feeling like I'm living inside of this song
Feeling like I'm just too sad to care ?(kill)?
Maybe like I just walked in my shit
Could it be the waste that I carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Ooh, oh.

I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private Eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna get myself the FBI.

ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it's true

**Bucket**

Gonna call the president
Gonna get myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna win right down in your face
Read about it with your morning news
With a sweet hang over, and their headlines too

Here's my newest version after some revisions:

Guns N' Roses - I.R.S

(Intro)

Love, oh oh,
Is it true,
What they say of you?

Gonna call the President,
gonna call with the private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna need the FBI.

There's not anymore that I can do,
all the reasons that you need, I'm tired of you.
So when you plead the Fifth and
in the end the charge is true.
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong,
wouldn't be the last, I'm sure I've gone
through all the rumors I can tell,
some things didn't work so well.

Well anyway it feels the same,
when you first told me you were gone,
so long ago, but I feel lead on.

Through all the bullshit that I'm in this wreck,
and that's the truth, now here's the worse yet.

Wouldn't even amount to the things that I've paid,
you bend your mind, I'd be gone anyway,
and there's no use knowing that you've done lost,
You'd have seen it coming all along.

Well it's true, oh,
I had, but that was you,
uh, oh!

Gonna call the President,
gonna call myself a private eye,
gonna need the IRS,
gonna get the FBI.

Gonna make this a federal case,
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
re-invent it with your morning news
with a sweet hangover and your headlines too, now.

*Finck solo*
Ohh, ohh.

Now do you think I'm doin' this all for my health,
I'll say this stuff again now to somebody else ,
feeling like I done went wrong at home,
feeling like I'm living inside of this song.
feeling like I'm just too tired to care,
feeling like I've just walked in my shit,
could've been waitin' out here alone,
like a broken record for so long.

What can I do?
Oooh, ooh.

I'm gonna call the President,
gonna call a private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna need myself the FBI.

Ooh, what shall I do?
If I gave my heart freely,
it's like a crime you know it's truuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeee!

*Bucket solo*

Gonna call the President,
gonna get myself a private eye,
ooh, gonna need the IRS,
gonna get the FBI,

Gonna make it a federal case,
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
re-invent it with your words and your news,
with a sweet hangover and your headlines too.

It's not anymore that I can do...

I'm pretty sure the line is:

Feelin' like I'm just too tired to care,
Feelin' like I've done more than my share.

But other than that sounds right.  : ok:

Quote

Feelin' like I've done more than my share.

Nice work, I think you might have nailed these two lines.

As for the last couple of revisions, I still think we had it mostly right earlier.

Quote
wouldn't be the last, I'm sure I've gone

Pretty sure he says "Wouldn't be the last, I should have known". It sounds like that's what he's saying, and it makes more sense. I thought it was "sure" for a while, but now I don't think so.

Quote
Through all the bullshit that I'm in this wreck,

"Through all the emotions that I've had to take" may not be exact, but he definitely says the word 'emotions' here.

Quote
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
re-invent it with your morning news
with a sweet hangover and your headlines too, now.

Pretty sure he's talking about waving a newspaper in the person's face, 'read it daily' or 'read the paper', could still be reacquainted or re-invented though. Almost certain it's 'headlines true'.

Well, they aren't Axl's best but they are probably still more interesting than most rock lyrics out there these days. Take a look at Nickelback, Simple Plan or Strokes lyrics, then come back to this one.

We had that in there for the longest time and it is certainly hard to tell what's he's saying, but I think it may be "I had my doubts with you". Since he's got some doubts, he's calling in a private eye, the IRS, the FBI, etc.

Hopefully we will be able to find the correct words in the CD liner notes soon enough!

Gonna call the President

Gonna need the IRS

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it there right there out in your face
Read a minute with your morning at noon
With a cheap hang over, and their headlines true now

I shoulda looked again, then, for somebody else

Don't you think it makes more sense to refer to the "morning news" rather than "morning at noon" when the following line mentions "headlines?"

You may be on to something with "cheap hangover", however. I have never really thought he says "sweet", sounds more like "tweak". Could actually be cheap.

Could be : ok: I couldn't really make it out so i used the template I was forwarded.

I feel the song is about Slash and I was thinking "Your morning at noon" cuz he still gets hammered all the time (or did at the time of the Breakup of GnR) so he'd be up late in the day cuz he was out late partying it up? (I know I'm reaching a bit, but that's what it sounds like to me) Hence "you consider your morning to be noon"

it's the "Read A minute" that I don't think is right But you could be right

maybe...

"Need a minute with your morning news?"
"With my Sweet Face on it and the Headline's true Now"

Like I said I can't make it out he sings too fast.

That first line after Finck's solo is giving me headaches. I cannot figure it out. Most of you all are saying "I've been too sure to offer my help", but I'm not hearing it.

Today while listening to it today on headphones something came to be while i wasn't even trying to listen carefully..now i can really hear it for that line: "I bet you think I'm doing this all for my health" said sarcastically....like the saying people use.

EDIT: Wiow..didn't notice someone else posted the EXACT same lyrics for this line a few before me....it really came to me from no where earlier today, and Ive never seen anyone else list it as that...I think we're right on with it

I think you guys may be right. This was one of the hardest lines to crack, the first part is distorted but you may just have it.

Quote
If he's not saying either "walked through" or "walked to" in this line then I'm deaf.

Tough one, we had 'walked' in there for a long time, but I am now 96% sure it's "Feelin' like I done more than my share".

Quote
I still hear for the line "Could've seen it coming all along" as "Really seen it coming all along" though the headphones.

That first word is so distorted it's almost impossible to tell. Could've or should've just seems to fit better in that sentence, but you may be right.

Oh Oh I think I got it ;D how about:

"feelin' like i just wanna do my share" : ok:

but to defend the bolded lines i previously had, this is how i would paraphrase it and kinda my thought process at the time of transcription.

Quote
I just finished my stuff, it took a week now i gotta do yours too  man I've been doing this too fucking long :'(

I know singig about Slash and the breakup of GnR is such a Cliche to some of you, but remeber that, Axl's never had a chance to put his feeling's on the subject out there. I am positive that IRS is about that.

Quote
I gave my heart to GnR and now these assholes are gonna try and steal it from me. Hence, I'm gonna call the president, gonna call a private eye, gonna get the IRS, gonna need the FBI

To me that line "To when you plead the fifth, that?d be the end of time, its true" has been the most puzzling one. What the heck is that supposed to mean? The 5th Amendment or something? Nice enough try but I just can't see it.

My first language is not English so I'm just talking out of my ass (not my first language either), but I'm almost certain that that "plead" word is more like "greed" or "agreed", there seems to be that soft g there. Can you take it from there and lose that pleading the fifth part?

Ive tried to figure them out hows this sound. Any help would be appreciated

Gonna call the president
Gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the I.R.S.
Gonna need the FBI

Theres not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave I follow you
so when you ? (might be "bleed and if that be the end of time its true")
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I'm sure I've gone
Through all the rumours I can tell
Some things didnt work so well
Well anyway it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago but I feel led on
To all emotions that I've ever said
Thats the truth and heres the worst yet
Would it even matter the things that I say
You made your mind up and gone anyway
And theres no use now no point getting on
Should of seen it coming all along
well its true I have because of you

Gonna call the president
Gonna call myself a private eye
Gonna need the I.R.S.
Gonna get the FBI
Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right there in your face
Read it baby with your morning news with a cheap hangover and the

headlines too

I feel like your doing this all for my health
I should of looked again dated somebody else
Feeling like Ive done way more than wrong
Feeling like im living inside of this song
Feeling like im just to tired to care
Feeling like I've done more than my share
Could of been the way I carried on
Like a broken record for so long
And I do

these were posted before by someone, here's what i got.

LOVE
Is it true?
What they say
Of you?

Gonna call the President
Gonna call a Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There?s not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I'll follow you
To when you plead the fifth, that?d be the end of time, its true

Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I should have known
Through all the rumors I can tell,
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

As when you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
To all the luck getting outta the debt
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Wouldn't even matter the things I say
You made your mind up ad hoc anyway
There's no use now in not getting on
Could've seen it coming all along

Well it?s true...ooh...I had
My doubts with you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it daily with your morning news
With a cheap hangover, and the headlines true now

[Finck Solo]

I been thinking you're too bad for my health,
I should've looked again then at somebody else
Feelin like I done way more than wrong
Feelin like I never gonna get ya outta this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I done more than my share
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI.

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it?s true

[Bucket solo]

Gonna call the president
Gonna need myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face,
Read it daily with your morning news

Dude, that is absoloutely hillarious! Seriously, I actually think that it sounds great! It's like listening to a dodgy soul version of IRS.  ;D

But you're right, some of the lyrics are a lot clearer. The fifth business and such is still all muffly, but that asside it's pretty insightful.

It's good to see that you caved on the first line there.  ;D

... The first bit, anyway. I'm pretty confident that it's an I'm (as doing this all for my) rather than a your.

If you have trouble making sense of it, it does make sense. It's like saying "yeah, because I'm doing this for my health," being sarcastically, you know, because it isn't... Sort of like. If it is that, it is makes senseical.

I also think that Axl has a bit of a

I should have looked again, babe, at somebody else.

Also,

Oh, and also, on the edit, listening to that slow bastard that you beasted up has me absoloutely convinced that the final edit of IRS should be a LOT slower! Obviously not that slow of course.......

What, like this

Wouldn't be the last should have known

There is a syllable between "last" and "should" as clear as day! What you've got going a) is akin to the grammar of a five year old, and b) doesn't scan! That line and the one above it should have the same syllables, surely.

It doesn't matter to me and I'm not having a go or anything, I guess you might be right, but come on mate. Pot kettle black.

When have I disputed that and no one ever brought it up that I saw thus I never even looked at it. The  versions that I post are the ones that the majority of the people on the boards agree are correct. : ok:

Fair enough. I just assumed that they were your own transciption each time.

(....... Also, I'm kind of leaning towards "help" rather than "health" right now, though it's probably just my ears playing tricks on me, seeing as I'm absoloutely addicted to this slowed down IRS and must have listened to it about fifty times so far.)

Btw I missed one word (letter) and it was a typo LOL. I did not even notice I missed that. Also you should see what I started off with for the lyrics. I have changed them dramatically. But for the record I was the one who figured out it was
Read a minute with your morning news, with a sweet (cheap) hangover and the head lines true ;)

For all we know the lyrics will change on the final album. Axl has tweaked the lyrics to all the songs from the first live versions to the current songs. Even look at better, he clearly sings Challenge on the demo but live he sings Charms, which makes more sense.

He clearly sings "charms" on the demo.? It took me, Finnished and mymichelle quite a while to get you even hear "charms" on the live versions.

In the conversation following the RIR5 performance . . .

Posted by gnfnr2k on 05.28.06:

"its challenge that brought me home
charms make no sense"

Posted by Finnished on 05.29.06:

"Stop saying that like you know it because it's not true. Watching the Rio show it's so clear it's charms/harm. It's like, how much more clear could this be? And the answer is none. None more clear.

And why in the heck wouldn't it make sense? "How long it would take me to break the charms that brought me harm?" I don't even speak English as a first language but still that's about a thousand times more sensible thing to say than "challenge that brought me home". You know, a charm, a spell, magic - and evil magic that doesn't do him good!

And yeah, there are two or three other words still wrong in those lyrics, too (abhor the invitation, for example). It's a very good take, but not the gospel from God."

So, let's sum up.?

Dave 2 months ago:

Quote
"its challenge that brought me home
charms make no sense"

Dave today:

Quote
he clearly sings Challenge on the demo but live he sings Charms, which makes more sense.

"its challenge that brought me home
charms make no sense""

It did not make sense until someone explained he was talking about voo doo charms then it clicked? : ok:
But like I said on the demo he is saying challenge, while live he sings charms.

The fact is he is singing the words different on the demo then he does live. Just look at the last verse to CD. At RIO III he sang if you ass was your head you could tell, but now he sings While their arms reach up for your help

Plus exp with CD he is always changing the lyrics around.

He even did this? back in the day. Take wttj. Some times live he sings in the jungle where I play, but on the album version its WE, so does that mean on the album he is singing I and not WE?

Just because he sings it live one way does not mean he is not singing it different on the studio version. Just listen to the demo of better, he is saying challenge not charms but he changed it to charms live. Understand?

Listen
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=CC29E00E5F4C68A3

The demo he says challenge
its clear as day

So are you going to tell me you dont hear challenge on that clip from the demo?

Also its still not adbhor, i posted a clip a few weeks ago to disprove that.

here is the problem with people like you. Not matter what anyone shows you, you always think you are right, yet with me, if you show me and prove that your lyrics are more correct then ill agree and change them  : ok:

I can admit when I am mistaken unlike you.

Gonna wave right there out in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
with a sweet hangover and the headline's true now

then the end one

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave right there out in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
with your sweet hangover in the headlines too

I really don't think it's "read a minute". That doesn't make any sense. I thought he might be saying "read a paper" or "read it daily" but it's really hard to tell.

In another thread Christos mentioned that he saw the lyrics for this song on the teleprompter at the acoustic show, and a few lines we think we've got right are wrong. But also that he can't remember the right ones. It's all Greek to me!   :hihi:

When was the irs demo recorded?

as far as we know one was around '99ish and one around '01 or '03 either before or after the '02 tour

@Dave have ou heard that soundboard for Rock AM Ring yet? give IRS a listen from there it's pretty clear ;)

Yeah I just did.
And fixed it. Live its baby but the demo its read a minute.

so he may have changed the lyric.

I'm pretty sure that part reads:

Wouldn't be the last I'm I've gone
through all the rumors I can tell...

... Well, for a start you are a line ahead, and so not talking about 'that part.' You're also facing the problem that, as far as making sense goes, you're yet to get started.

IRS

Love
Is it true?
What they say of you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call up the Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There?s not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I'll follow you
To when you plead the fifth, that?d be the end of time, its true

Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I should have known
Through all the rumors I can tell,
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've been here long
To all the luck getting outta the debt
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Wouldn't even matter the things I say
You made your mind up ah hoc anyway
There's no use now in dragging it on
Could've seen it coming all along

Well it?s true...ooh...I had
My doubts of you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face (??)
Read it daily with your morning news
With a cheap hangover, and the headlines true now

[Finck Solo]

I feel your doing this all for my health
I should've looked again then at somebody else
Feel like I done way more than wrong
Feelin like I never gonna get ya outta this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I done more than my share
Could it be the weight that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it?s true

[Bucket solo]

Gonna call the president
Gonna get myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face(??)
Read it daily with your morning news
With a cheap hangover, and the headlines true

There's not anymore that I can do

Feelin like I'm just too tired to care *('Feeling like I'm to tired to give')
Feelin like I done more than my share *('Feeling like I just walked through my shit')

This is what I have:

I bet you think I'm doing this all for my health
I should've looked again; giving somebody help.

In the first line, the speaker (Axl?) is claiming to be wrongfully accused as being selfish by the recipient of the song (I guess we can assume it is Slash). In the second line, the speaker displays cautionary regret for not carefully evaluating the other person (Axl has often accused Slash as being two-faced) before giving his support.

Its really hard to get these 100% since the demos and the live versions he is singing different words

Here's what I can gather from the Rock AM Ring version. It's just so hard because Axl changes so many word so often:

Oh oh, oh, oh,
Is it true?
What they say of you?

Gonna call the President,
gonan call a private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
gonna need the FBI.

There's not anymore that I can do,
all the reasons that you gave,
I'd follow you
to where you lead**
and if that'd be
the end of time it's true,

Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong,
wouldn't be the last I'm sure I've gone
through all the rumors I can tell
some things didn't work so well,

Well anyway it feels the same,
as when you first told me you were gone,
so long ago but I still held on,
through all the emotions and love and mistakes,
and that's the truth then here's the worse yet,
wouldn't even matter the things that I say,
you made your mind up and gone anyway,
and there's no use now in dragging it on,
shoulda seen it comin' all along.

Well it's true,
I had my doubts with you.

Gonna call the President,
gonna call a private eye,
gonna get the IRS,
I'm gonna need the FBI,

Gonna make it a federal case,
gonna wave it right back out in your face,
read it baby with your morning news
with a sweet hangover and your headlines too now.

I see you think I'm doing this all for my health,
I shoulda looked again then at somebody else,
feelin' like I've done way more than wrong,
feelin' like I'm livin' inside of this song,
feelin' like I'm just too tired to care,
feelin' like I've done more than my share,
could it be the way that I've carried on

Love

Christos, I've actually gone back and forth on those lines. When it was originally leaked, I had thought it was "feelin' like I'll never get out of this song" and "could it be the weight that I've carried on", but in order for that last line to make sense, you'd need something else, either something like "carried on my shoulders", or something to that effect, where as " the way that I've carried on" makes sense itself...

6 weeks is too long for people to start thinking "oh, this is actually pretty good"

from the record companies point of view, they need something that strikes you straight away. making people buy the single straight away, to make money fast. then they can leave it on the radio and milk it dry.

singles shouldt grow on you, they need to hit you when you hear them... otherwise it aint gonna impress on the first listen and will turn off many listeners. ofcourse there will always be the die hards, but y'know...? : ok:

also... when people hear a single, they arent usually bothered how much better it is live :P they want the version they are listening too.

But that is the best thing to go by (the screen) since that is most likely what teh album lyric is gonna be

IRS is about Slash, is it not?

I think the title is a hidden message as well

In
Response to
Slash

"Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone,
So long ago but I still head on
Through all the bullshit that I've had to take
I've found the truth and here's the worst yet

Wouldn't even matter the things that I say

And there's no use now in dragging it on

I think the acronym is stretching it pretty far. And those lyrics could be about anyone up and leaving. No hints that its Slash in particular.

You've made your mind up and gone ANYWAY
And there's no use now in dragging it on
Should've seen it coming all along"

Didn't you know? Every new song is about Slash, Axl's in love with him.

IRS

Oh, oh
Is it true?
What they say of you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call the Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There?s not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I'd follow you
To when you lead (plead) and if that?d be the end of time it?s true

Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I should have known
All the rumors I could tell
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've still held on
To all the emotions and love and mistakes
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Would it even matter the things that I say
You made your mind up and gone anyway
There's no use now in dragging it on
Should?ve seen it coming all along

Well it?s true...ooh...I had
My doubts of (with) you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true (too) now

[Finck Solo]

I bet you think you?re doing this all for my health
I should've looked again babe at somebody else
Feel like I done way more than wrong
Feelin like I?m livin inside of this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I done more than my share
Could it be the way that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it?s true

[Bucket solo]

Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face

There's not anymore that I can do

You're right, he isn't. That's because those aren't the correct lyrics.

Quote
"To when you plead the fifth, then baby it'd be the end of time it's true."

When he sings it live he often just says "Then baby, end of time it's true."

The Fifth:

Quote
plead the 5th

To remain silent in order to not incriminate yourself. "Fifth" refers to the fifth amendment which gives defendants the right to not incriminate themselves in court

Axl is implying hell would freeze over before that happens - "the end of time, it's true."

like i said before in another post. until the album comes out and "if" we get to read the lyrics, we won't know for certain what exactly he's saying. if i were to put my two cents in though i would say that he's saying "when you plead the fifth". my only reason for thinking this way is that when you are in court and asked to answer the question at hand you have the right to plead the fifth and say nothing. maybe he's saying that to slash in particular ? everyone under the sun at some point has asked slash about the breakup and he has given his view of what went down over and over again. maybe axl is saying to him if you would ever just plead the fifth, or no comment it would be the end of time. axl has been very quiet about the breakup and has had alot of negative press regarding everything. maybe he just means, " hey slash if you could just not say anything or " plead the fifth" it would be a fuckin' miracle. remember this though, everything that went down with the original band has been very one sided to say the least.

I've read the lyrics on Axl's screen, at the acoustic. It doesn't say PLEAD THE FIFTH.

At this point I'm not even really sure if Axl knows all the lyrics to the songs. He's messed up the Patience intro twice, said "Sowin' all your porno" for My Michelle, used "hesitation" (I think) instead of "invitation" and also changed lyrics for other songs (including IRS as mentioned by gnfr2k above). I think he either gets mixed up with the new songs or just decides to change lyrics on a whim. Of course the Patience bit was a mistake but I think there's a possibility the My Michelle line was intentional, just to be kind of funny or something. Kinda like "ass in the air" and the added swear words to other songs.

" With a tweek hang over", and the headlines true.

tweek = speed or chrystal or crank it's all the same another street slang name is tweeking,                   so if your snorting speed, crank,or chrystal and playing Guitar with alittle DJ coke, and staying up all night I'd have to say this song is definitly about Slash

I remember bits and pieces, not the whole song, but from what I remember it's pretty close...

I remember the following though:

"Feelin like I?m livin inside of this song" was "Feeling like I'm never geting out of this song"

And

"Could it be the way that I've carried on" was "Could it be the weight that I've carried on"

Ofcourse, I can never be 100%. Anyways, the record is close to coming out so I guess we'll know soon...

No reason to try anymore.

This is the closets I think we are gonna get. I made the changes AG said he saw on the monitor.

IRS

Oh, oh
Is it true?
What they say of you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call the Private Eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There?s not anymore that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I'd follow you
To when you lead and if that?d be the end of time it?s true

Wouldn?t be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I should have known
All the rumors I could tell
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway, it feels the same

When you first told me you were gone
So long ago, but I've still held on
To all the emotions and love and mistakes
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Would it even matter the things that I say
You made your mind up and gone anyway
There's no use now in dragging it on
Should?ve seen it coming all along

Well it?s true...ooh...I had
My doubts of with you

Gonna call the President
Gonna call myself a Private Eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true (too) now

[Finck Solo]

I betcha think you?re doing this all for my health
I should've looked again babe at somebody else
Feel like I done way more than wrong
Feeling like I'm never gettin outta this song
Feelin like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin like I done more than my share
Could it be the weight (way) that I've carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Ooh, oh.
I'm Gonna call the President,

***On the demo it sounds like he's saying that, but live, it does kind of sound like he's saying "Through all emotions, and love, and mistakes" but its hard to tell cause it seems like he always loses his breath at that line and he cuts it shorter. So I'm on the fence with that line. But I believe everything else is correct.

I'm Gonna call the President,
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS,
Gonna need myself the FBI

Ooh, what shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's such a crime you know it?s true

[Bucket solo]

Gonna call the president
Gonna get myself a private eye
Gonna need the IRS
Gonna get the FBI

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true

There's not anymore that I can do

I think "way" makes more sense... because I think when you're referring to "carrying on like a broken record," means over, and over again... nothing to do with weight.

I could be wrong... but I was front row at hammerstein, and I'll be damned if I'm not correct.

This is what I came up with... it's largely the same as other versions, with a few minor changes.? I really think the verses make more sense this way.? I'll put those changes in bold.

Ooh, is it true
What they say of you

Gonna call the president
Gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the I.R.S.
Gonna need the F.B.I.

There's not any more that I can do
All the reasons that you gave
I followed you
And when you lead it may be the end of time it's true
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I should have known
All the rumours I can tell
Some things didn't work so well

Well anyway it feels the same
When you first called me you were gone
So long ago but I still held on
To all the bullshit that I've had to take
That's the truth and here's the worst yet
Wouldn't even matter the things that I say
You've made your mind up ad hoc anyway
There's no use now in not dragging it on
Should've seen it coming all along

Well it's true
I had my doubts with you

Gonna call the president
Gonna call myself a private eye
Gonna need the I.R.S.
Gonna get the F.B.I.

Gonna make this a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a cheap hangover and your head like stew

I bet you think I'm doing this all for my health
I should have left it all to somebody else

Feeling like I've done way more than wrong
Feeling like I'll never be done with this song
Feeling like I'm just too tired to care
Feeling like I've took more than my share
Could it be the way you've all carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
I'm gonna call the president
I'm gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the I.R.S
Gonna need myself the F.B.I

What shall I do
If I gave my heart to you
It's a crime, you know it's true

Gonna call the president
Gonna need myself a private eye
Gonna need the I.R.S.
Gonna get the F.B.I.

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it baby with your morning news
With a cheap hangover and a head like stew

There's not any more that I can do

The "head like stew" bit is probably a description of what your head feels like when you're hungover.? And they'd be hungover because they lost the "federal case" and were drowning their sorrows.

These, as far as I can tell, are almost 100% accurate. The only part I'm not sure about I have bolded. But there were mistakes in all the past transcriptions of the song.

Oh
Is it true
What they
Say of you?

(I'm) gonna call the president
Gonna call a private eye
Gonna get the IRS
Gonna need the FBI

There's not anymore that I can do

All the reasons that you gave
I followed you
To when you'd lead a difference (?), babe
The end of time it's true
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong
Wouldn't be the last I'm sure I've known
Through all the rumors I can tell
Some things didn't work so well
Well anyway it feels the same

I swear when you first told me you were gone
Still on the go but I still held on
Through all the motions: the love and the sex
That's the truth now here's the worst yet
Wouldn't be the amount of the things that I say
You've made your mind up and gone anyway
There's no use now in dragging it on
Shoulda seen it coming all along

Well it's true
Oh
I had
My doubts of you

Gonna call the president
Gonna call myself a private eye
Oh, gonna need the IRS
I'm gonna get the FBI
Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right out in your face
Read it daily with your morning news
With a sweet hangover and the headlines true now

Ah
Oh

I think you think I'm doin' this all for my health
I've seen you look again, babe, at somebody else (I don't think that's right, but he's definitely not saying what people usually write)
Feelin' like I've done way more than wrong
Fellin' like I'm livin' inside of this song
Feelin' like I'm just too tired to care
Feelin' like I've done more than my share
Could it be the way that I carried on
Like a broken record for so long

And I do
Oh

I'm gonna call the president
Gonna call myself a private eye
Ooh gonna need the IRS
Gonna get myself the FBI

Oh what shall I do
If I
gave my heart to you
It's such a crime, you know it's truuuuuuuuueeeeee!!!!!

Gonna call the president
Gonna get myself a private eye
Gonna need the I.R.S.
Gonna get the F.B.I.

Gonna make it a federal case
Gonna wave it right down in your face
Read it daily with your morning news
With a sweet hangover, and the headlines true

There's not anymore that I can do
