AXL SLASH DUFF = GOAT

« on: May 17, 2008, 11:17:24 AM »

I think GN'R have always done an incredible job with their cover songs, live and on record.  While I haven't heard any rumors about cover songs that may be included on CD, I just thought it would be interesting to hear opinions on whether you think they should include one, and if so, what song would you like to hear?

I for one would love to hear a high quality studio cut of Todd Rundgren's Dust in the Wind which is one of my favorite bootleg cuts.  And does anyone know where and when this was performed?

Also, Sway would be cool since we already heard this lineup play that.  And for something totally out of leftfield, how about a cover of Cream's Sunshine of Your Love.  Axl would sound awesome on this song.

Yes.  Sign me up for "Sailing".  I loved how that sounded live when the boys performed it.  Axl's voice gives me chills on that one.

I like "Dust In The Wind" a lot too.  That was performed a bunch of times on the UYI tour in 92/93 I believe.

From www.gnrsource.com

"Dust In The Wind" was performed a few times as an intro to November Rain, during 1993.

Notable Performances:
June 25, 1993 - Frankfurt, Germany - First known performance.
July 17, 1993 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Last known performance.

Yeah, I for one would love to hear Dust In The Wind or some other great cover on CD. I have DITW cover on my mp3 player and can't get enough of it, Axl's voice is amazing!

No-I think with TSI? and the covers they did on Lies and UYI are enough-I've never really been fond of bands doing covers, especially when their own material is better, I would rahter hear new material

Back In The Fuckin' UK would be awsome as a kind of additional track on the 1st single.
Even as a cover on CD it would be cool.

Assuming there's more than one album of material to be released, a cover would be fine with me.  After so many years of silence, however, all I really care about right now is new original material.

^^ Haha. I'm not trying to make a dig at VR, but when I heard Contraband I thought "this sounds like it was written for Axl Rose".

I don't really mind if there is a cover on "Chinese Democracy". We're not sure the format it comes in or the release schedule for the other material, but Axl's covers are always well done and unique. I loved him singing "Sailing" in 2006. Very heartfelt and well done. What I'd like to see more than anything is a track that's completely original, written by Axl and Elton John.

I get what you're saying (GN'R could stand to have a few more original hit singles)... and even somewhat agree... but the counter-argument to your point is that GN'R must be pretty damn good at covers if they have that many on their GH cd.

I remember Axl saying in an interview, RS in '92 perhaps, that he was very moved by U2's One and had kicked around the idea of GN'R covering it... I would LOVE to hear that. ok

Sailing would be awesome too. Especially cool b/c it was something the new band dug up and brought back to life...

thats as pointless as tits on a bull...

if gnr (current) were to do a cover, I want them to do a cover of a song that the band hasn't played before.......

whats the point in covering gnr's old songs, you still hear axl singing it the same way?

Of all the covers they can chose from, people pick the corny Sailing.....now that is worthy of a ROFLCOPTER from LOLZland.

I want to hear Zep's Immigrant Song, Achilles last Stand or the overplayed Stairway to Heaven...the last high vocal parts Axl would rip.

Or Deep Purple's Bloodsucker, Highway Star.....fits GnR like a glove.

Sailing.....pfffshhhhhhh peace

At this point, I just want original material. No covers. To the poster that said Axl was moved by U2's One, GNR did cover it back in the day. I have it on my other computer. The sound quality isn't so great though.

Hell No

Waiting this long to hear them do other people's songs is not my idea of exciting

Plus, it'd probably be another cover song that they insist on infusing into their set-list , which ultimately means one less Illusion song that we'll hear at a show

I'd prefer if CD was all originals. Would love to hear them do some covers sure, but keep them as a b-side, or iTunes exclusive or something like that. I would prefer not to have a cover version as part of the album itself.

The new GNR album should certainly do a cover song. Its been a part of their musical repertoire since the very beginning. Its a great way to pay tribute to the songs before them. It's also a productive method of getting through a show while Axl has his oxygen breaks.

No. After this long, after hearing that they are have been working on 70 or 80 songs, I don't want a cover. I think it would be laughable that after this long, they put out an album with a cover song on it. No, no, no! GNR has done enough covers. They have an album of covers, covers on Lies, and on Use Your Illusion I and II!

Not on the next album. Maybe the one after, but not the next one.

I think its great to hear some cover song in studio. I dream with "Sailing" with GNR in studio.

But the fans is waiting for the chinese for some years, and i think that the people want an album with all GNR songs. Just with new songs, no covers.

If chinese comes with one cover song, people will say bad things about it.

But cover song like bonus track in internet, will be OK for everone.

Anyway, i would be loving if exist some Sailing with GNR in studio.  ok

NO! (I would not like to hear a cover song on CD)

With the rumoured 4+ albums worth of material, why bother with cover songs. They did that with the UYI albums just to pack them out, when they should have just released a single album containing all the best tracks. I say save filler tracks and cover songs for CD (compact disc) single filler tracks.

No way, the press would have a field day! 12,13 14 years and as many millions spent on it whatever, and there's a cover on it, trust me that would be the focus. A second album would be dodgy too, but not for the first drop.....

But, if there's one i'd like to hear 'Ace of Spades'. Not only is it a classic, but we know Axl likes it, so he'd give it his all (like they'd ever cover a song they didn't like i guess)

Although it's been done by Motley Crue, I'd like to see G&R do Helter Skelter by the Beatles. I can just hear Axel screaming.............."When you get to the bottom you go back up to the slide andyou turn and you go for a ride and I see you again.............................................................: )

House of the Rising Sun anyone? I think Axl's voice would sound killer covering that tune.
