Unless I'm mistaken, there's 4 people in the early videos.? But the VH1 site only shows 3 (Matt, Astbury & Duffy, I presume).? Who was/is the 4th guy?

All the vids through the Sonic Temple include former member Jamie Stewart.  After that it's a different cast of characters for each era.

As it is, The Cult is Ian and Billy, always has been.

I think the most interesting video, visually, is the one for Wild Hearted Son.? Is this fascination with Americana and Native Americanism solely Astbury's or does the entire band share this?? ?I just find it interesting that, as Brits, they have these themes in their videos.?

The Native American imagery/theme is mostly Astbury, his fascination with with the culture stems from his childhood and time he spent on the Six Nations Reservation in Canada as a British immigrant.

Take that bit of information along with watching the early videos, and you will see that Ian was not doing a Jim Morrison impersonation with the Doors. He was just being Ian.

Very true kujo, Astbury has always had that shaman thing about him.  He and Morrison are definately kindred spirits.

Also, www.thecult.us is sceduled to launch today...

Here official news, 20 dates and possible new music.

Giddyup.

A RETURN TO WILD
Jan 23rd 2006

THE CULT will undertake a 20-date tour in March 2006. Some had reported the demise of the dark British rock band who?ve been inactive since 2002. Apparently those rumors were greatly exaggerated. ?The eco-world cannot exist without its predators. Out in the wild it takes all types to make the system work. The Cult needs the world the world needs The Cult. We never really go away ? everything must have its season and our season is upon us again? stated singer Ian Astbury.

It is no secret that tension between frontman Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy has been at the forefront of The Cult?s lengthy breaks. The two realize ? more than ever ? that the strength and balance of The Cult is the differences they bring to the table. Duffy states ?It?s [The Cult] always been me and Ian and it always will be. We?re a little wiser but just as pissed off as we ever were.?

The Cult rose to fame from the streets of London to become one of rock?s biggest attractions of the mid-80?s and 90?s. Critically acclaimed records and radio hits such as ?She Sells Sanctuary? ?Wild Flower? ?Love Removal Machine? ?Edie? and ?Fire Woman? propelled the band to arena status. However the band?s disdain for the ?big machine? of the music business has paid off with the allegiance of their hard-core following. The band never sold out or abandoned their core audience. ?We never had fans ? we have addicts. You either need it or you don?t. You either get it or you won?t. There is nothing casual about The Cult. We attract pure votaries? prides Astbury.

The tour tagged ?A Return To Wild? will cover 20 cities launching at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco and winding up at Nokia Live in New York City. Although the band was offered large venues they opted for more intimate houses. These shows are for Cult devotees and the wickedly curious. ?We need to reconnect with our people, our tribe. We need to be among them. We want this to be as intimate as possible. You can?t do that in an airline hanger mate? claims Duffy.
The band plans to play select dates and explore the possibilities of making new music in 2006 although at press time no firm commitments have been made.
The Cult is managed by Tom Vitorino Management with booking by Dave Kirby at T.K.O.

The Cult suck! (kidding Falcon  Tongue )

...nah, I wouldn't know, only heard a few songs.

As my search for other bands to listen to continues, I thought about giving The Cult a chance...

Any recommendation Kujo, Falcon?

The Cult Energized For 2006 Tour

January 30, 2006, 4:15 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
After a three-and-a-half year break, veteran rock act the Cult will return to the road this spring. The group, which features core members Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, is in the midst of auditions and rehearsals ahead of the March 1 North American tour kick-off in San Francisco. Additional international shows are also being considered for later in the year.

The Cult was last active in 2002, when it toured in support of the previous year's Atlantic album "Beyond Good and Evil." But Astbury describes the experience to Billboard.com as "soul destroying. After going through that whole major-label experience when the industry was in its death knell, it left a horrible taste in my mouth. I really didn't want to be a part of it any more."

He spent the next few years performing with the Doors Of The 21st Century and enjoying extensive travel around the world. "Having done it for nearly three years, the Cult started to come back to me. I was missing it and missing the music. I missed performing with Billy," Astbury says.

Astbury and Duffy are already conceptualizing the set list for the tour, which will blend favorites like "She Sells Sanctuary," "Fire Woman," "Wild Flower" and "Love Removal Machine" with more obscure items such as "American Gothic," "Gone" and "Witch." Says Astbury, "We might reaching further into [1994's 'The Cult'], which we skimmed over in a lot of ways. I'd really like to perform some more songs from that."

Astbury is hopeful that new Cult music could be a byproduct of the reunion, reporting that he's been "writing songs that are appropriate for the Cult. There's got to be some sort of creative aspect to this."

But most of all, he's excited to be performing the Cult's music in front of an audience again. "We've booked these shows and we're going to have a blast doing it," he says. "When I get on that stage, I've seen a lot of the world recently and I feel a desire to share that."

Ian Astbury spent a bit of time yesterday answering questions from the fans(Wow, what a concept Roll Eyes ) One part that I found interesting was when he was asked about Matt Sorum, possibly drumming for them.

http://thecult.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=196&highlight=

Yes, it is Astbury, the site administrator confirmed it. Interesting that someone who would have access to people in the know, is also hearing about a reunion.

From www.thecult.us:

After much speculation and more than a few rounds in the rumor mill:

Joining The Cult on bass will be Chris Wyse (Cardboard Vampyres, Jerry Cantrell), who performed on The Cult's, Beyond Good & Evil release, and John Tempesta (White Zombie, Helmet), who will be handling the drums.
