Title: Rush
Post by: kj_jive on August 11, 2004, 01:11:58 AM
I saw Rush a few days ago and they fuckin rocked the house!! :peace:  Geddy Lee was in top form and sounded great.  Neil Peart's drum solo rivaled Matt Sorum in his prime.  It was at the Tweeter Center in Camden, anyone else in attendence?  Pouring down rain and lots of mud and sliding in mud only added to the excitement.  anyway...it was a great show, they played for 4 and a half hours and showed that they are still in top form and the greatest prog rock band around.  probably the best rock musicians i've seen live (in terms of technical ability).  any other Rush fans here? ???

I missed them in West Palm a couple weeks ago because I already had tickets to see Dave Matthews in Tampa. I heard it was a great show though. I last saw Rush on the "Counterparts" tour and they were awesome then as well. All the members are true living legends of Rock n Roll in my book.

Just wanted to comment on how unbeliveably good this album is.  It's always been one of my favorite Rush cd's, but after a long plane ride to California I realized that its definetely one of the greatest rock albums ever!  Every track is full of creativity and energy.

Anyone else with me on this one? or against?

According to All Headline News, the members of RUSH plan to announce a new official book to add to their list of items being released during the next year.

The book will consist of every tour book the band has ever had and combine them all for one large historic pictorial of the group's 31-year history. The book is currently under construction but is likely to hit stores by January 2006.

RUSH also has a number of DVD projects coming soon, including "R:30 - Live In Frankfurt", "Anatomy of A Drum Solo" by drummer Neil Peart, and re-releases of their older VHS videos not yet released on DVD, including "Exit Stage Left..." , "Grace Under Pressure Tour 1984", and "A Show of Hands", which will be offered in a box-set format as well as individually. A complete video collection is also in the works for release in late 2006, including clips shot during the band's later years under Atlantic Records.

Title: Re: Rush
Post by: Malcolm on October 12, 2005, 07:43:17 PM
Greg Prato of Billboard.com recently spoke to RUSH singer/bassist Geddy Lee about the group's upcoming CD/DVD "R30 Live in Frankurt". Recorded at RUSH's Sept. 24, 2004, stop in Frankfurt, Germany, the project is due Nov. 22 via Rounder in the United States and Anthem in Canada; Sanctuary Visual Entertainment will issue it Nov. 28 in Europe.

"Well, basically nobody was in a big hurry to do another live project, because we've got about 60,000 of them out there," Lee told Billboard.com. "But when we were touring Europe on the last tour, we hadn't been to those countries in 10 years ? some of them 20 years. And there was such an exuberant response from the crowd; it just seemed like a unique opportunity to capture the band in that kind of environment."

"The venue is very old," Lee continued. "We've played there a couple of times. It's always a strange atmosphere for North Americans to come over there and play in one of these buildings that Hitler used to do speeches in and so forth. So it's always got kind of an ominous vibe for us. But the crowd is always great and a lot of fans hadn't seen us in a long time."

With regards to the vintage footage included on the set, Lee attributes the discovery of some it to his brother, who works in the film business. "He took it upon himself to get involved in our vault and see what the hell was lying around down there, and he discovered some of these old things that we had forgotten about," Lee said, adding that some of the clips "are kind of painful to watch [laughs]! Bad hair, bad glasses. You just kind of look in wonderment like, 'Is that really me?' And you really feel how much you've changed since that time."

Meanwhile, RUSH are gearing up for a new album, the follow-up to 2002's "Vapor Trails". "We're just at the stage now where we're getting ourselves ready to do some writing," Lee revealed. So that will take place over the next six to eight months probably, and we'll gather some material together into a record."

Karen Bliss of JAM! Music reports:

Canadian rock legends RUSH will be co-producing their new studio album for Anthem Records with Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, STONE SOUR, SHADOWS FALL). The American producer will be flying up to Toronto next week to meet with the band, which is in the demo phase right now.

"It's early stages. We have nine songs written so far," says guitarist Alex Lifeson. "We're going to continue until we have about 12 songs and finish up preproduction at the end of October, so we'll be really well prepared and then go in the studio in November and start recording."

That way of working is a little different for Lifeson, singer/bassist/keyboardist Geddy Lee and drummer/lyricist Neil Peart, who usually write in the studio and record at the same time.

"This time around, we wanted to write, we wanted to rehearse the material, we wanted to get really inside it before we actually recorded it," explains Lifeson. "We're not spending a lot of time on sound or getting too involved in the recording."

Lifeson and Lee started working "very casually" together through the early part of this year, and Peart sent some lyrics to them. In May, they spent a month in a downtown studio "building things, doing some more writing, doing some pre-production, getting Neil involved, drumming, and then we just went back in about a week and a half ago."

According to a posting on the RUSH fan site Power Windows, RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson spoke with Canada's Rock Station (95.1 & 100.7 The Rock) earlier in the week about the group's new album, which is believed to have a working title of either "Snakes and Arrows" or "Snakes and Ladders". Alex revealed that the band flew to Los Angeles on Monday, January 15 to begin mixing the CD and expects to put the finishing touches on the LP by the end of the month. The album took only 30 days to record ? the shortest time RUSH has taken to record a CD since 1977's "A Farewell to Kings"! Andrew MacNaughtan has been video-taping the entire project, with the possibility that a "making of" DVD will accompany the final product.

During the interview, Lifeson stated that RUSH will launch a North American tour on June 12 or June 13, with plans to stay on the road through the end of the year, to be followed by dates in Europe and South America. When asked about RUSH's exclusion from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Alex stated "I couldn't care less. Look who's up for induction ? it's a joke".

P.S...Could one of the mods change the totle of this thread to the Rush thread or somehting plz?

Jun. 16 - Tampa, FL @ Ford Amphitheater @ Florida State Fairgrounds

In other news, the first single from RUSH's upcoming album is expected to be "Far Cry" (or "Farcry"), and it is set to go for radio adds on March 13.

RUSH's new album is expected to be released late spring/early summer via Atlantic. The tracks were put to tape at Allaire Studios in upstate New York with co-producer Nick Raskulinecz. "I have never enjoyed the recording process so much, nor been so satisfied with the results," drummer Neil Peart wrote last month on his web site.

Peart previously told Billboard.com some of his lyrics for the new songs were inspired by his motorcycle journeys throughout the United States, chronicled in the recent book "Roadshow: Landscape with Drums".

"Just seeing the power of evangelical Christianity and contrasting that with the power of fundamentalist religion all over the world in its different forms had a big effect on me," he said.

Prog-rock power trio Rush will release its first new album in five years May 1 and will support the set with a full-scale North American tour this summer.

"Snakes & Arrows" is Rush's first collection of new material since 2002's "Vapor Trails." The band recorded the album last fall and shared production duties with Grammy-winner Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver). The first single, "Far Cry," is set to hit rock radio in mid-March.

Details about the tour will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release. The outing will be Rush's first North American jaunt since the group's 30th anniversary tour in 2004.

RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson spoke to Cassandra Szklarski of the Canadian Press about the the time-honoured custom of playing encores at concerts.

"Certainly, on our level, it's to be expected," Lifeson says of RUSH encores, noting there's little variation among them, despite the group's vast catalogue of songs.

"It's the same thing every night. You know, we anticipate the encore, so it's just really it's just an opportunity for us to come out and play a few more songs."

The 53-year-old performer says that an old gem has been chosen for the encore on RUSH's upcoming world tour, but he wouldn't say which one.

Encores certainly meant something different when the stadium rockers first started out, says Lifeson.

"When we were a young band playing clubs and opening acts and we would get an encore it was really special," Lifeson recalls. "You were thrilled to get one and hoped that the headliner would allow you to do it."

what songs/record should i check out if i've never heard anything from them?

"Roll the Bones" is perhaps my favorite album, but - as a mild Rush fan only - it gets not better than the live version of "Subdivisions" from "A Show of Hands..."

RUSH fan site RushIsABand.com has posted an audio interview with RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson, conducted earlier today (Wednesday, May 30) by Mark Jeeves of the U.K. digital radio station Planet Rock. In the interview Alex mentions that RUSH will play nine songs from "Snakes & Arrows" on its upcoming tour and that "Workin' Them Angels" is his current favorite.

RUSH has selected "The Larger Bowl" as the second single from its latest CD, "Snakes & Arrows".

I got this album and even though the single is great, I wasn't all that impressed.

Working them Angels is awesome, but as a whole it isn't that good. I only enjoyed 4 or 5 songs.

Their first album of original material in nearly five years, "Snakes & Arrows" debuted at #3 on The Billboard 200. In addition, the track "Malignant Narcissism" has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

RUSH drummer Neil Peart has issued the following update:

"Early in March I will have to start preparing for another series of concerts, a 'continuation' of the 'Snakes & Arrows' tour (The Snakes & Arrows 'surge,' I call it).

"We had planned to end the tour in Europe last fall, but apparently more people want to see us, or see us again, so we were asked to do more shows. Some of them will be in places we haven't got to for a while, like New Orleans, Oklahoma City, and Winnipeg, and that is nice, plus we plan to make a few changes to the setlist and presentation to freshen it up a little. Although the world knows by now that I'm not crazy about touring, I sure don't discount the good fortune that we can still do it, personally and professionally ? that we can play better than ever, and that people will come and see us. That's not something I have ever taken for granted. As I have said to friends who might be having their own work difficulties, 'at least if I have to work, I?m glad I can.' And not just any old job, of course ? pretty much the best job there is ? but nonetheless a hard one."

Rush Promises Surprises On Summer Tour

Rush fans can expect some different songs and "surprises" when the Canadian trio hits the road on April 11 -- but guitarist Alex Lifeson says, "I'm gonna keep those a secret until then, I think."

Lifeson tells Billboard.com that since the next segment of Rush's Snakes & Arrows World Tour -- which kicks off in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and runs through July 20 -- visits a number of cities the group hasn't played in quite some time, "we thought we should maybe revisit some older songs we're not playing currently or haven't been in the last little while. So we changed out a few songs in the set. We're gonna keep it loose and maybe kind of bounce back and forth."

Lifeson says the group frequently gets fan requests for specific material. "We see 'Camera Eye' come up quite often, 'Jacob's Ladder' and some of the longer songs like that from our mid-period," he says. Last year's Snakes & Ladders dates featured rarities such as "Circumstances" and "Entre Nous," which Rush has never performed live, and are captured on the upcoming "Snakes & Arrows Live," due April 15.

Lifeson says Rush is also starting to tuck into the video material from the same show last October at Ahoy Rotterdam arena in the Netherlands for a DVD the guitarist says will be out in the late summer or early fall.

"We shot it in HD, and I hear it looks really dramatic," says Lifeson, who supervised the stereo mix for the CD. The group decided to put the CD out first, he says, because "we wanted to kind of bridge the two halves of the tour with a release so there's something there, and then we'll follow up with the live DVD."

Lifeson says that he and bandmates Geddy Lee and Neil Peart are also thinking a bit about Rush's next studio album -- mostly likely with "Snakes & Arrows" co-producer Nick Raskulinecz -- but suspects that will come later rather than sooner.

"I'm guessing that we're probably going to take a little bit of the break at the end of this tour," says Lifeson, who's been updating his Web site with a number of new features he hopes to roll out soon. "I don't see us really doing much in the way of any new material probably until the spring of next year, and then we'll see where we go. We generally prefer to just start on that first day and sit down and start jamming; it's such an exciting moment, and it becomes it's own living thing. We seem to be much more balanced and a lot happier working that way."

Rush Announce 2012 Tour Dates
Anne Erickson
|
04.19.2012

Yesterday, Rush released their new single, ?Headlong Flight,? giving fans a taste of what?s to come on the band?s upcoming album, Clockwork Angels, out June 12. Clockwork Angels is Rush?s 20th studio release and their first set of original material in over five years, so there?s plenty of buzz surrounding the release.

Now, the men have announced a cross-country 2012 tour in support of Clockwork Angels. The jaunt kicks off September 7 in Manchester, New Hampshire and will travel to 30-plus cities before closing out December 2 in Houston, Texas.  Tickets go on sale starting April 27 in most cities via Ticketmaster and LiveNation. For information on when tickets go on sale for the date closest to you, visit Rush?s official site, and find a complete list of tour dates, below.

As for ?Headlong Flight,? Rush singer and bass player Geddy Lee says it was a delight to write. ??Headlong Flight? was one of those songs that was a joy to write and record from beginning to end,? he said in an official statement. ?Alex [lifeson] and I had blast jamming in my home studio one day before the 2nd leg of the Time Machine Tour and I did not revisit that jam until a year later.

?Alex and I assembled the song to be an instrumental and its original title was 'Take that lampshade off yo head!' but once we saw the lyrics Neil had written for 'Headlong Flight,' I knew that the spirit of the lyrics matched the instrumental perfectly and it was just a matter of making them fit and writing the melodies.? Are you stoked to see Rush in 2012? Let us know in the comments section, below!

Yeah,  I think this band is vastly over rated as far as their commercial success is concerned.  Rush fans act like they are as big as the Beatles, but the reality is they have been selling the exact same amount of records to the exact same people for the last 30 years.  That is not to say they don't deserve to be in the Hall, they most definitely do, but I wasn't outraged all these years that they didn't get in.

I own a few records by Rush, could never get into it, its the voice.  I won't knock someone for liking them though, there are a lot of legendary rock bands that I am supposed to like that I don't, Rush is one of them.

I'm thinking about doing the Toronto shows. Their tickets sure aren't cheap, though.

Yeah, i'm gonna hit the Dallas show. The best tickets here are like 175 after tax and everything. They do put on a helluva show though.

I'm planning on going to the June 29 show at MSG.  Saw them for the 1st time on their last tour, can't believe it took me so long to finally see them, they're incredible.

They should play the Fly By Night album in its entirety. It is the first album with Neil and in my opinion very underrated by the fans and the band itself.

Also, I know it won't happen but it would be great if they played in Australia...  :crying:

Well, you see, you're in the presence of true masters of the craft. Most of us fans find it hard to dance to their music, anyway. Is the same thing with Tool concerts, it's like church.

ALEX LIFESON, GEDDY LEE Talk RUSH's Future: 'Right Now We Don't Have Any Plans For Anything'

RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson and bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee appeared on the latest episode of "Sound Opinions", the long-running Chicago Public Radio program hosted by Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot. They talked about a variety of topics, including the future of their iconic band.

Alex said: "I think right now we don't have any plans for anything. Keep in mind that we had a year and a half off after the 'Clockwork Angels' tour; we didn't talk about anything to do with the band in a year and a half. So I think we're just in a stage now where we're just kind of taking some time, reconnecting with our families and friends and pursuing some other interests, and having some fun, really. I know Geddy and I love writing together; we've been doing it since we were young teenagers. And I'd like to think that we'll do it until we're very old men instead of just mostly old men."

Added Geddy: "I think for Neil [Peart, RUSH drummer] it's become too hard. And that's a phrase he likes to use. To play for three hours, to play the way we feel is being RUSH, the way RUSH plays is a three-hour show that's very complicated. And that has taken its physical toll on his body. During the course of any of the last few tours, he's gone through periods that he's having problems ? whether it's tendonitis or whether it's some other thing. So I think for him it's enough; he can't go through all that again. So that's gonna dictate, obviously, what performing live is gonna mean for RUSH. And whether that happens or not, I can't really say at this point."

Continued Alex: "I know Neil's in a great headspace now; he's really enjoying his life and feels great. He's spending a lot of time with his daughter and his family and doing the things that he loves to do, with his health intact. So that's a very positive thing."

Peart last year admitted to being "of two minds" about another lengthy run of concert dates, pointing out that having a young child at home makes it difficult for him to be gone for weeks at a time.

"I've been doing this for 40 years ? I know how to compartmentalize, and I can stand missing her, but I can't stand her missing me and it's painful and impossible to understand for her. How can a small child process that? And there's the guilt that comes with that ? you feel guilty about it, of course. I'm causing pain."

RUSH released the "R40 Live" concert film on November 20.

RUSH recorded and filmed "R40 Live" over two sold-out shows in the band's hometown of Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on June 17 and June 19, 2015 in the middle of their "R40 Live" 35-date North American tour.
