Sorry if there is already a thread for them but I couldn't find it.

Anyone heard of these blokes? They Just toured with Motorhead and Rose Tattoo in Australia. They are very AC/DC but faster. Great Aussie Rock.

I only bought the album today coz everyone kept telling me I'd Love em and they were right. These blokes kick arse.

Not a big fan of theirs, but it's good to see them flying the flag for Aussie pub rock in these days of emo crap everywhere.

Jonni Starr of DirtyRock.net recently conducted an interview with AIRBOURNE drummer Ryan O'Keeffe. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

DirtyRock.net: Why did you guys choose New Jersey to be your U.S. base?

Ryan: As we've discovered, a lot of bands have a U.S. market or UK market. And it's not very often that an act will be going well on both markets and it happens to be that we are. So we need to be positioning ourselves in between the UK and L.A. and that's New York. That way we're six hours from L.A., six hours from London so if we've got to jump on a plane and tour or do a last minute show or even an interview we're able to do it with ease. Plus Roadrunner are in New York anyway, all the other labels are in L.A., Roadrunner are in New York, so we're able to be close to them. It's just a center point where we can go everywhere in America and everywhere in the UK at a cheaper rate (laughs).

DirtyRock.net: You've built up a fairly strong following in Australia. Are you worried you might lose some of the momentum relocating indefinitely overseas or have people been supportive?

Ryan: Oh mate, it's only until Ev, our mixer, really said it and he sometimes gets mistaken for being in the band, but he goes, "One of the things you really realize from crowd members is how supportive they are about us going overseas. Everyone, everyone who even mentions about USA it's always positive." "You guys rip it up overseas," "Good luck, we'll be here thinking about you," "Do it for Australia." You know, everyone, I think they're all sort of on our side in that respect and know it's got to happen, we've got to take that step and get out there.

DirtyRock.net: You mentioned about going to the UK. How has the support been over there?

Ryan: Really good, really good. It's one of those things when we've been talking to them, all of us ? band, crew and label ? feel that we shouldn't fail. Or we don't want to be the ones to fail because there aren't that many people out there doing rock 'n' roll and if we fuck it up, we're going to look like dickheads! Because there are a lot of people out there who want this sound back who grew up with it or a lot of kids who like discovering it because they've spent their earlier years listening to emo or nothing Australian, as far as I'm concerned. There's a lot of passion going around the AIRBOURNE camp about this. They're all really supportive ? it's great.

DirtyRock.net: A lot of people when they talk about AIRBOURNE always compare your sound to AC/DC. Obviously they're a fantastic band but do you ever get sick of the comparisons or embrace it?

Ryan: Embrace it. Every band is going to get compared to something. Any band you think of is going to get compared to something otherwise how are you going to describe them? And geez, I'm proud of someone to go "What are they like?" "?They're like AC/DC." Oh, they're like one of the best rock bands in the world? That's flattering. It's one of those things that I don't feel I even deserve to be compared to band such as AC/DC.

what i thinks cool is the band are actually making it so they play bars first in these new countries because they wanna build up there fan base honestly, rather than jumping straight into a bigger venue.

trouble is...they are AC/DC, (when i first heard their single i assumed it was a new AC/DC song)

You cant really give them any praise because they offer nothing new - its blatant plagarism

listen to the album, most songs are played extremely fast and heavier so its not always a total rip off of ac/dc.

also the band doesnt say its original, they say they are influenced by australian rock bands and thats where the sound is from.

It may not be anything new, but its certainly a really great album, fast fist pumping rock, no ballads, no bullshit. Just kick ass hard rock so if you want that, lsiten to the album, if you want experimental stuff where a band is trying to cross italian orchestra with rock and industrial, tihs band aint what your looking for.

The problem with sped up, heavier AC/DC is that it essentially results in AC/DC with less dynamics and less sense of groove.

And it really is like 90% AC/DC 10% Rose Tattoo... Which would be fine I guess, but I already have albums doing that by half a dozen bands. Anybody remember Rhino Bucket?

I dunno, I went to see them live thinking it would be cool, but it just got old real quick. Same for the album. Whenever I start it on shuffle play, it's good for about three songs and then my mind wanders...

I mean, they're not awful, and if people dig them, then cool... But for me, I just don't see anything to get excited about. I'd rather see a slightly more distinctive band, with a decent chance of longer lasting success, get that big record label push I guess.

the fast thing is what i like about them alot. i can leave the album on n really get into it n i never get bored.

i guess its all down to taste. i listen to alot of stuff, i guess a fast non stop rock album is just something i like to blast out time to time.

Oh, so do I... Totally...

I just don't like the way these guys do it I guess. They kind of blast past the groove a little.
But then, I can't imagine too many people taking my opinion into account when they decide what they like... lol

So i checked this album out, i think it's kickass.. it's the kinda music where you wanna have a musclecar like a shelby from the late 60's and go out and race while listening to it, awesome

as said, very ac/dc, and the singer kinda sounds like blacke lawless hihi

all in all, very cool up'n'coiming band headbanger

Hung out with them on Monday night and saw them play to a small crowd - and they are great fun and a good laugh. They are also excellent musicians - but what annoys me is that they play up to the AC/DC comparisons by playing Whole Lotta Rosie!

no ac.dc number

but they did play an old song off there first EP which was more more refined n better live!

The show was brilliant the guys totally work together so much better on a bigger stage.

Honestly, the amount of energy these guys put into their shows night after night, i have no idea how they can keep it up.

The entire band is like Angus Young, Or Axl Rose. Non stop moving rocking and showmanship!

With all the moves they were doing, they were also incredibly tight. Awesome show, i hope these guys make it to arenas.

AIRBOURNE has set "No Guts, No Glory" as the title of its second album, due on February 23, 2010 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded in Chicago with noted producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, 3 DOORS DOWN, STAIND). The band relocated from its shared home in Warrnambool and moved into K's spacious studio to record the album.

Frontman Joel O'Keefe says: "Working with Johnny was great; he's one of the boys. We basically just set up all the gear, chucked a few mics around and went for it! Good times!" Brother and drummer Ryan confirms the precarious microphone placement: "With this album, we threw the mics all over the building, left the doors and windows open and pressed record!"

AIRBOURNE, known for its adrenalized, "work hard, play harder" style of rock, will embark on a two-month European tour in early February that will span two months and kick off with several U.K. dates. The band will commence U.S. touring of major markets beginning in April. They will live on the road through the summer.

"No Guts, No Glory" follows up the band's 2008-released debut, "Runnin' Wild", which went on to sell upwards of 250,000 units worldwide and earned the band heaps of critical accolades.

There's something about the kind of potent rock and roll fury that AIRBOURNE cranks out, all cylinders firing, that makes you want to chug a beer straight down your throat and punch the air as though it'd touched your wife inappropriately. It sounds crude, we admit. But that's the thing about these Aussie pub rock rebels. Their music, like new album "No Guts. No Glory.", is a perfect soundtrack for drunken debauchery, and "that's what we're here for, mate," says rowdy lead guitarist and vocalist Joel O'Keeffe.

Inspired by the likes of JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY, ANGEL CITY, ROSE TATTOO, AC/DC, and MOT?RHEAD, AIRBOURNE have been waving the rock and roll flag for Australia since 2003, and in the process, winning fans and awards (including Metal Hammer's "Best Debut Album" and Classic Rock's "Best Newcomer"). They hail from Warrnambool, a small drinking town on the southwestern coast of Victoria, and they've steadily gained an immense following among fans of infectious, high-energy, whiskey-soaked, whiplash-inducing working man's rock. Out March 8, the band's new album, including first single "Get Busy Livin'", is a mandatory addition to any self-respecting jukebox's library.

"Basically, we've never been about having a specific message; we don't talk about politics or social injustices in our songs. There are other bands out there to take care of that," says Joel O'Keeffe, who, like brother and AIRBOURNE drummer Ryan O'Keeffe, has been playing guitar since he could walk. "With us, it's not like that. It's just rock and roll. We want people to have a good time, no matter what. Have a drink, play it really loud, and kick back."

AIRBOURNE traveled to the Windy City to record "No Guts. No Glory." with producer Johnny K, live and straight to analog tape. Like debut album "Runnin' Wild", "No Guts. No Glory." continues that good time vibe, but ultimately, according to Ryan, the record is about "standing up and going for it, and being a man. There's a tougher element to the album, so to speak." Instead of sleeping every night in a comfortable hotel room bed on the label's dime, the band actually slept in the studio, taking inspiration from Bruce Springsteen and his E STREET BAND, who were known to live in the studio until an album was completed.

"We found out that they used to do that for the first bunch of records they did," Joel explains, "so, the drums were set up in a big room with the guitars and [rhythm guitarist David Roads], he slept behind the amps; I slept behind a bunch of amps; Ryan slept behind his drum kit and [bassist Justin Street] slept behind this pool table, and we were all in the studio. It was really fun, because you'd just get up and go, 'Fuck,' and start recording. That's how your day was. You just sort of woke up, had some food, and started recording. Maybe you'd have a shower; maybe not. Just sort of walk around in your shorts all day, just rocking away."

The album's a virtual rock and roll buffet, boasting tracks like "No Way But The Hard Way" and "Blonde, Bad, and Beautiful". When the band lived together for three years on welfare in a Melbourne suburb, surviving on a steady diet of booze and barbecue, things were tough, and the band nearly burned their home to the ground ? literally. "Nothing came easy, and we'd say to each other, 'Ain't no way but the hard way,'" recalls Ryan.

"No Guts. No Glory." also features a song called "Steel Town", which was inspired by the band's time on the road ? including the U.K.'s Sheffield ? and some of the people they had encountered. "Every time we went through a town that was a steel town, there was something about the crowd themselves," recalls Joel O'Keeffe. "They seemed to be a little bit wilder, and they'd always drink the pub dry, and we'd have to get more beer from other pubs. There was always a massive fight, always a crazy crowd. So we wanted to give them a song that gives them a chance to raise their flag and pump their fists in the air, and drink a beer to it. I guess it's like throwing gasoline on the fire."

AC/DC music sound! ok

Just seen the new album drops the same day Ratt's new album does....
April 20, 2010....That will be a GREAT DAY!

i absolutely loathe the new single.

Its like Airbourne except they got filtered down in the lab. So tame compared to the last album. Its slow, vocals are crap and productions wank.

Can't believe people actually dig this band. They make AC/DC sound diverse...  hihi

There are much better Australian rock bands than these guys.
Hell, even Wolfmother who I'm not too fond of either, are better than these guys!

I thought they were a parody band at first..like Steel Panther, but apparently they are serious?  I'm still not sure.  They have very generic lyrics, riffs and song titles..i just don't see the point in listening to them when Ac/Dc is still around.

are there any songs of theirs that some of you might recommend that are better than that last single?  Maybe some songs that arent just about how much they love to "rock"?

There two recent albums are better than anything AC/DC has put out since the  mid 1980s.

Some people would even argue they are better than AC/DC full stop.

I think you can enjoy them, if you are not expecting them to play at a creative arts college anytime soon. If you want some fun hard rock music, for fun and sheer energy then youll enjoy their music. If you want experimental , pushing to new areas rock music, this isnt the group for you.

The band doesnt pretend to be anything other than an old school styled rock band. Not all of their songs are about how much they love rock. One of my favorites on the new album is the song about a man being made redundant because his qualifications have become obsolete.

i listened to one of their songs once, and if it wasnt for the music video, i honestly wouldve assumed it was a new ACDC song.
I dont mind bands been influenced by older great bands, but there is a line and a big difference between influenced and copying.
It just wasn't for me at all.

I think the issue is the band release the slower tempo stuff as singles, which is the most AC/DC clone-esque. There albums often have much faster heavier songs as i believe they tried to mix motorhead with AC/DC.

Id agree with my point in the fact Airbournes releases beat AC/DCS more recent offerings....

but i dont know if i can agree with my friends on them being better.

Afterall.....AC/DC have a huge back catalogue of great rock n roll and two great frontmen...or should i maybe say 3? haha

I can understand comparing these guys to AC/DC to a certain extent, but their singer sounds nothing like Brian Johnson or Bon Scott and if not taken seriously it's just pretty good rock n' roll....something pretty scarce these days with what new garbage we have today (no wonder rock is dead). Maybe Airbourne is not unique but I appreciate the time the're here and how awesome their recordings sound. Why listen to Airbourne when we "Still" have AC/DC around, you ask?
With all due respect, yes AC/DC are rock Gods and one of the all time best and I can go on, but right this minute, Brian Johnson's voice is shot, their Black Ice album is OK, but the recording quality sucks, why they put Brian's voice so loud is beyond me, turn his ass down, put up the guitars and drums and you got Back in Black!
