 Straight off BraveWords.Com:

HOLLYWOOD ROSE - The Roots Of GUNS N ROSES is a historical and monumental musical document of the very first demos recorded by Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin, before they became Guns N Roses.

The album features five demo recordings that have not been heard in decades, plus new remixes by former GNR member Gilby Clarke. These rare tracks showcase the raw talent of Axl and Izzy that was just beginning to blossom into GNR.

The story of Guns N Roses began when L.A. GUNS founder Tracii Guns introduced guitarist Chris Weber to Izzy Stradlin in the parking lot of the Rainbow Bar And Grill. After jamming together at Izzys place, the two decided to form a band and recruited a vocalist, Bill Bailey, better known to most as Axl Rose. Together, they drew inspiration from the diverse musical scene emerging in Hollywood and, with the help of drummer Johnny Kreis, recorded a demo under the name Hollywood Rose.

For years these demos have remained in the vault, never appearing on CD. Now, Cleopatra Records is bringing these raw recordings to the masses. As a special bonus, Gilby Clarke took these recordings back to the studio and polished up the rough edges.

Due for release in June, Hollywood Rose - The Roots Of Guns N Roses includes the following tracklisting: Original Demo Versions: Shadow Of Your Love, Rocker, Killing Time, Reckless Life and Anything Goes. Newly Remixed By Gilby Clarke: Shadow Of Your Love, Rocker, Killing Time, Reckless Life and Anything Goes. Newly Remixed By Fred Coury: Move To The City and Reckless Life.

Hollywood Rose - Greatest Hits....  hihi

It'll be cool to hear these songs and how they compare to what we have on GNR Lies.  Reckless Life, for instance.  Go Gilby!

Before we all thank Gilby remember he was paid to do this by Cleopatra.
Cleopatra releasing this comes as no shock to me as they seem to get their hands on some strange things.

No info on www.cleorecs.com yet
Mind you it seems they are undergoing an update.

I bet the remixes suck! - first to say so as most cleopartra remixes do.

I am looking forward to hearing the master tapes though. I wonder if Axl was the one to give them the go-ahead on this one!?!?!?!?!?

Sounds cool but i'm pretty sure these are the HR demos that are already available on the net, have been for a while.  The ones from the cassette with Axl's handwritten song titles.

I can't really see Axl being happy about this release, expect some sort of lawsuit... Roll Eyes

I cannot believe anyone would bag out the fact there will be BONUS tracks remixed by Gilby!

Its cool that the demos are coming out.. and as a BONUS (ie.. additional to the core product) we get extra tracks to listen to! If the whole album was remixes.. yes.. that would suck.. but its just some extra stuff included they want to give us as well as what we want!

DVDs with NO BONUS features.. you complain (rightly so)
GH with NO BONUS tracks.. you complain (rightly so)
This comes out with BONUS tracks.. you complain!!!!

Anyway its cool that this record co. are bringing these out.. ill get it for sure! And Gilby's remixes will be interesting to listen to im sure  ok

Wonder how this record co. got this stuff?  Huh

I'll be buying this.  Who knows, at this rate, it might be the only 'new' gnr oriented release this year.  (I refuse to buy GH just on general principles)

I've heard most of these, though - has anyone heard Rocker or Killing time?  I think I have the rest of the 'Rose' demos in mp3, somewhere.

Rocker and Killing Time kick ass!! ok They forgot That Something and the "unknown title track" but that new CD is gonna be awesome. I hope they have found some versions with a clear and sharp sound. It's #2 on my waiting list for 2004...well, yeah, after, you know, Chinese Democracy.

this is awesome news....as far as lawsuits go, i think chris weber won one and that's why this is getting released.

what's funny is that this album would have sold a million copies if it were released in 89-91 when everyone was waiting on the illusions albums. i bet it won't sell more than 50,000 now though.

... it all sounds a bit dodgy to me  Wink

What`s Gilby C. got to do with old GN`R material? - nothing, thats what!   Grin

It all sounds like some high profile bootleg "Let`s get Gilby C. involved, that`ll add some weight to the release, should help shift afew more units"  Wink

I guess it proves one thing, Gilby ain`t got much on at the moment  ok

Oh dear god!!!
After a mere 13-ish years there is an  interesting GNR related product with a release date on not-so-distant event horizon. I hope Rose/Izzy/Geffen/major Gods are ok with this and don't initiate any stupid legal..extravaganza.
It would be interesting to hear some more info about the whole thing from Gilby/record label.

They were released on a japanese bootleg called Hairspray Heroes some time ago.

And btw, Cleopatra is not a bootleg label per se, it's just a very small label that releases lots of tribute albums (Appetite for reconstruction for example).

This is cool, but  I think it would have served a better purpose as being a small part of an official GnR boxset (if they ever release one).

And I'm going to give it 10 minutes before someone on this board suggests that this release is actually "CHINESE DEMOCRACY IN DISGUISE"

Yep, Cleopatra is not a bootleg label...it's an actual record co.; it's an indie label and they have already published lots of material from The Damned for instance. They are also responsible for "Appetite For Reconstruction" (Tribute, 1999) and "Rock Tribute to GN'R" (2002, Tribute).

So, Hail Caesar, indeed.

Newly Remixed By Fred Coury: Move To The City and Reckless Life.

WOW!!! All this talk of Gilby remixing tunes, and no one mentions these 2 gems remixed by none other than Cinderella's drummer Fred Coury!! hihi

It just brings flashbacks of disappointment when the first time I saw Guns n' Roses at the UIC Pavillion in Chicago opening for Alice Cooper, and freakin' Fred Coury was playin' drums since Adler had a cast on. Angry

Gilby and Coury might be involved in that compilation because they both worked with Cleopatra Records in the past on GN'R tribute CDs.

True, and they can also put a sticker on the album saying the tracks have been remixed by "Ex Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke".  hihi

Gayces High punks got those songs in the 2nd or higher place not before. the "new" old songs (rocker etc.) were spread by original HR source 5 months before that.
Gayces High never tell exactly sources by the way, so their release could be high gen CDR or mp3.

Not that I know of, but I'm pretty sure there are more songs in the vaults... Wink The song "Your Looks Are Gone" was supposedly recorded by Hollywood Rose but the sound was so bad it was too hard to tell if it was Axl or not who was singing.

gilby fuckin clarke needs to get a god damned life and quit it!

he was in gnr for a very short period of time, he was never a member of guns n roses in my opinion

its fucked up, it would be like robin finck remixes gnr lies or something, he had no part of it, he shouldnt pathetically hold on to his gnr tie that didnt last that long

wheres his fuckin integrity?

i wonder if soon is the word on this release?

He wasnt part of it at the time.. but he looks back on being part of GNRs history fondly.

He needs to get a life and quit what? Last time I checked music was his life.. or a big part of it and what he does. He is doing a short musical project that he was most probably asked to be a part of and said yeah that sounds fun, and the guy has bills to pay and music is what he does for a living!

Gilby is well thought of amongst most of the fans IMO, which is why they probably thought we'd enjoy some bonus material worked by him. At least he was part of GNRs history, a lot of bands have remixes on their OFFICIAL stuff by unrelated artists.

Without the bonus tracks there would only be what.. 6 songs on the CD?

Would you have prefered Mix Master Mike working on it perhaps?  no  peace

« Reply #48 on: March 13, 2004, 07:00:07 AM »

gilby fuckin clarke needs to get a god damned life and quit it!

he was in gnr for a very short period of time, he was never a member of guns n roses in my opinion

its fucked up, it would be like robin finck remixes gnr lies or something, he had no part of it, he shouldnt pathetically hold on to his gnr tie that didnt last that long

wheres his fuckin integrity?

i wonder if soon is the word on this release?

Gilby was a damned good member he filled the void left by Izzy really well and hell if he is helping out on this re-release of the old stuff well done to him i mean at least somebody from GN'Rs past wants to help release a classic piece of GN'R/Pre-GN'R history even if he was not a part of it at the time........well done Gilby.........it's not like Cleopatra are gonna pay him a fuckin' fortune is it

gilby did an excellent job of replacing izzy stradlin Roll Eyes

how many hits did gilby write? o hyeah he didnt write anything with gnr, dont ever compare gilby clarke to izzy stradlin u should have your gnr membership cut to fuckin shreds

gilby has no business fuckin around with hollywood rose he wasnt apart of it so why is he fuckin with it?

u people bitch cause buckethead and robin play slash's solos but its cool for gilby to re record and capitalize off music he had no part of? what a fuckin bunch of hypocrites some of u are

i think ill stick to the jungle, bad obsession, and fun and games sections for awhile, this shit aint worth arguing about cause its a blatant double standard

gilby wasnt shit in GNR but a fuckin replacement tour guitarist, he didnt do anything creative in GNR, and if u bring up the shitty spaghetti incident which was cover songs then u just show once again that u know very little about this band

i dont think its cool and i dont know how that sounds like a 6 year old when half of u who defend gilby bitch about robin, bucket etc

I am shocked that you people aren't against this.  D is 100% correct here.

Gilby has no right to be involved with this release.  NO right at all.

Also, these songs should not be remixed.  They should be released as they were intended to sound when they were originally recorded.

Did you know he's a producer and has his own studio?

He's got as much right as any other producer. He was probably asked to do it by the record company....

Yeah, you're right, but put yourself in the position of the rest of the band+Hollywood Rose members (not just Axl).  Do you think they'd be pleased with Gilby doing that?

I know I'd be extremely pissed off.  It's kind of like if you gave up Heretodaygonetohell for some reason, and one of the posters here just took it over without your permission.  You may be cool and all, but can you honestly say you'd think that was "ok"?

I still feel those other songs shouldn't be remixed.

Obviously I'm interested in buying it, and it's pretty cool, but I disagree with it.

wrestlemania booyahhhhhh

gilby should have enough respect for GNR and himself and not do that shit, it drops alot of his musical integrity in my mind cause he had no part in that music and he shouldnt try to recreate it, goes for the new gnr redoing afd, i also dont agree with that

all im sayin if buckethead redid november rain or some shit u people would have  a fuckin heart attack

its a double standard so at least go both ways with it

Its just BONUS tracks on a CD!

So if you dont agree with the new lineup redoing AFD, I gather you havent or wont be going to see them play their versions of the songs live then if they come to you?  yes

Here's a link to download the original 7 Hollywood Rose demos via BitTorrent.  http://www.torrentz.com/torrents/view_4088, they're encoded as 192kbps MP3 files - enjoy.

Mods: If you want the link relegated to the DL section only, I understand.. just figured since this was a current topic and there was alot of interest, I'd share.  Feel free to move / delete / squash as necessary.

Awesome, thanks, dark!  ok

BitTorrent kicks ass.

You're quite welcome, and, yes, BitTorrent does indeed rock.  I pretty much rely on it for about 95% of my downloads anymore.

Looks like some people are actually downloading them now - its about a 40 MB total package for the 7 MP3s, so that's not too horribly bad.
