This thread has possibilities...............

Check out "If My Mind Is Evil" by White Lion......

Now I happen to like the song regardless, but some may find it a little too typical of the time period - i.e. 80's hair metal. Either way it has some really neat guitar within......

'In the Name of God' by Dream Theater isn't that special, but the guitar solo from 8:36 on is incredible :)

I wanna rock - by Twisted Sister, the song is okay in my view - but that solo is one of the greatest moments in rock history - scorching!

Back off  Bitch - GN'R. I always thought the song is OK but not standout, however that solo is killer. Very different for Slash - veers from the usual blues/pentatonic into more diatonic modal scales

Megadeth's "Youthanasia" is a lumbering, average song, but that Marty Friedman solo is killer.  : ok:

Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird would be useless 70's cheese without the solo. Same with Deep Purple's Child in Time: the solo makes the song. I think songs were better constructed in the 80's, when riffs got much better. So many 70's songs are built on a single great solo, but riffs really improved with the 80's.

Yes, Reign in Blood is an excellent example of this! I LOVE that riff!  ;D The first 15 seconds of that song could be repeated 10x and it would still rock!

"Carpe Diem Baby" from Re-load from Metallica , not a good song nor a bad song , terrific riff tho.

Bah - it DOES have a good solo, regardless of what we think of the song

When I read your original post the other day, I actually went and dug out 'Big Hits and Nasty Cuts', threw it in the stereo, blasted 'I Wanna Rock', and was quickly reminded that I kinda like the song. Sadly, the solo is mediocrity at its finest......... :'(

Not to add insult to injury here Iz, but if someone, anyone, were to tell me that the 'I Wanna Rock' solo is - "superb" - I would simply have to assume that they've never heard a good guitarist play.

EDIT - It doesn't move! It's flat, it's slow, it's sloppy...it's unimaginative!

^What he said. That solo is just sad, really. Izzy you've got to get your hands on some music. Like, now.
