Axl needs to release a single to generate some hype. Even if the record isnt finished
a movie soundtrack would be cool, like "you could be mine" in 1991 for T2. The Illusion albums were released a few month after. and the impact was phenomenal...

I don't think an EP will come out anyway. A full length cd will come out eventually, whenever that is  nervous

A song in a movie soundtrack would be cool. If the movie is big and the song is good (I'm sure of that one), promotion would be easier.

If CD ever comes out... it will probably be the result of Axl losing some legal action and the label forcing it out OR Axl's estate deciding to release it after his death.

Those of us with grandiose dreams of GN'R World Tours and MTV videos need to get our heads checked. I don't give a sh!t  what Stinson or Reed have to say.

Since The Blues, Madag, Rhiad are several years old now - and if the "big guns" quote was actually true . . . wouldn't it make sense for Axl to:
Release an album like Lies.
Put the three songs mentioned above on it, throw in Silkworms I guess, then the other side could be live songs, or covers or whatever. Oh My God, the sweet child o mine version from Big Daddy.

Then over the next six months they could release two singles and two videos - Blues and Madagascar.
One video could just be the typical concert footage, then let Finck or Stintson do something creative for the second video.   (That way Axl wouldn't have to be involved until he saw the final product and wouldn't have to spend his time with the video).

That way, Axl could still spend all his time FINISHING Chinese Democracy . . . but the band would be building up new fans, getting old fans interested again, and building things up for the release of Chinese Democracy.

If they had did this in July of this year, wouldn't you be a happier camper right now?

Sure a studio release of those songs would be cool like lies until the album comes out, plus waking up the fans..

I honestly hope that the songs they did as boots AREN'T on the new album, we've been hearing those for years n years now, why would I want dated material?? I want cd to be ALL NEW MATERIAL.. At least a sperate disk..,.

I'd love to still here Maddy, The Blues and Chinese Democracy studio versions so it would be refreshing for those songs but I can see whatcha mean by dated material I'm sure Axl has thought about those songs being dated and tweaked his sounds for it

They only sound dated to the people that listen to them over and over. That can only be a few thousand, to the rest of the planet they will sound new.

No, I think an EP would be a good thing. It's a much better alternative to not releasing anything for ages.

« Reply #34 on: November 22, 2004, 11:07:29 PM »

well hopefully he first single will take the form of an EP anyway , 3 or 4 songs.
But if this were to be used as a stopgap measure like Lies was, I would be very dissapointed.
as far as The Blues, Madagascar and CD go, they should def be on the album. Sure we've had boots for ages, but I feel these could be huge studio songs - imagine the layering and texture of those songs, not mention a polished, pristine voacal performance.

As far as Rhiad and Silkworms go - they sound like B-sides or bonus tracks compared to those other  3

We have discussed this EP thing for a few times...

I don't want any EP. Axl should release the album after all this waiting. An EP would only delay CD for other 4 years. At least.

well, GnR played Don't Cry, Back off Bitch and KOHD years before they officially releases studio version of it, so what'S the big deal? we know those new songs for 3 years now, the others date back to 1986 (5 years before UYI) and it was fine with us, wasn't it?

I remember when The Prodigy released singles at least a year before the album was out.

If GN'R was planning on releasing the album in early 2005, they could put out a single/EP before Christmas.

One studio track, add some live tracks and/or remixes to it.

Like this:

1 - New track
2 - Oh My God (Rock N' Roll remix) [for people who think Axl is too deep in the industrial genre Wink ]
3 - Rhiad & The Bedouins (Live in Las Vegas 2001) [it's probably not gonna be on CD anyway]
4 - New track (live in the studio or alternative version)
5 - Photo gallery [Robin could take care of this? Cool ]

Put the new track on Itunes as well.

That would be a nice Christmas gift.? hihi

/jarmo

that is a damn sweet idea.

yeah! no one would understand the photo gallery though.... Grin
and why not release the studio version of Rhiad if it's not gonna make the album? that would have been my choice for sure! yes
