Sorry if this is the wrong place for this topic, but I just wanted to say to my fellow gunners on the east coast to please be prepared and safe these next few days. I'm in the northeast area so we are supposed to get hit hard tomorrow. Make sure you're stocked up on water, supplies and GNR music !!!!

Lots of flights and such are already being cancelled...Looks like this really might be a big one, hoping that it just passes without much adieu.  Here in PA everyone is freaking the hell out and going nuts buying gas and milk and bread and water and all that good stuff.  Sure our power will be out also, but unfortunately we live in a flooding area so that kinda blows and they're predicting floods to be bad.

Don't worry...I have my Frankenstorm survival kit ready to rock the f out!

I am hoping Hurricane Sandy doesn't damn me.  The odds of a Tsnuami are luckily one in a million.  While the storm passes, I may need a little patience.  If my fellow posters think this is stupid, I might be sorry! yes rofl

I am in NYC on the Lower East Side.  I am in an 'optional' evacuation zone as I live 2 blocks from the East River.  Its getting wwwiinnnddddyyyy down here.  I should be alright though, I am on the 10th floor haha.  If the flooding reaches my apartment I think NYC is doomed.

The only good thing about this is that I do not have to wake up at 5:30 am to catch a bus to NYC for work. I'll be working from home if there is electricity in Northern NJ.  As Axl would say " I won't be told anymore. From the West Coast to the East Coast,
Stay safe and be smart. If they tell you to stay home then stay home. If they tell you to evacuate then do it. Hope everybody stocked up on water, food and batteries. And a radio and flash light to go with the batteries. Just be smart and stay safe and make it though "Sandy"

And to all the GN'R fans that plan on coming to Vegas I hope your flights are on time and you make it safe and sound. So when you get there you can rock the F-out and tear up Sin city.

I'd see if you can switch your flight to leave from Philly at this point.  Wednesday is not looking like a good day for flights leaving out of the NY area.  I hope everyone leaving from the NYC area make it to Vegas for the Halloween show, but so far all flights today and tomorrow (Tuesday) are cancelled.

I hope everybody is safe! It looks like a big one...

I just don't know how you guys can bear with things like that. I'd be terrified! Luckily it's something quite rare in Brazil, though I faced one while in line to see GNR in Rio in 2010, and that 'small hurricane' collapsed the stage down. I was shitting my pants but didn't move one feet in line to see gnr! hihi

Be safe, people! Hope everything is ok in time to see gnr in Vegas on Halloween!

« Reply #30 on: October 30, 2012, 12:30:11 AM »

I'm far enough inland in CT that I didn't feel the brunt of Sandy's wrath.  The shoreline was not so lucky though.  Massive flooding there.  NYC was hit real hard too.  This storm left a mess behind it, spreading up and down the coast.  I lost power for a second and I don't think there'll be too much to clean up tomorrow.  But others are certainly not that lucky.  Best wishes to all those who weren't spared quite as much.

Looks like Halloween will go on in my neighborhood this year.  It was canceled last year since the whole town/region was pretty much without power for a week plus after that freak October snowstorm.  Candy doesn't go bad does it?  Because those kids are getting year old candy.  Don't tell anyone.  And no, I'm not a big candy eater myself.  Thus the reason, it's lasted an entire year under my watch.

The driveway for my complex had about 3-4 feet of water. They closed off the road where my complex is located. Luckily, my parents live 15 minutes away from me. We have electricity here. Northern NJ is in bad shape. A close friend of mine lost his car as a result of the storm.  Hoboken is pretty much under water. In Southern NJ, the boardwalk in Seaside Heights is gone. The boardwalk is gone in Atlantic City. In NYC, the Lower East Side was flooded.  It'll take 4 days for the subways to get back on track. I've lived in the Northern NJ/NYC are all my life. I've never seen anything like this.

Hey folks... Shit. It's baaaadddd here. Lost power Monday night at 8:30 or so and lost all running water soon thereafter. When the toilet stopped working today the fianc? and I knew we had to leave. We found a yellow cab down in the lower east side where my apartment is and begged him to drive us to her parents house in Queens. He did so and $50 later we made it. Before we left we surveyed the damage and there were downed trees and crushed cars everywhere. We started to walk towards battery park to see how bad it really was down there but we turned back when we saw fights breaking out amongst the "locals" at the shelter nearby the area. ALL power is lost. No stores have power and they are giving away food or selling it for cheap, but some of it is impossible to even cook right now!  No traffic lights are working and there are not enough police to monitor them.  I am going to swing by the apartment tomorrow night and see if the power is back on or not.

Good luck fellow New Yorkers and those in New Jersey who got hit hard.  This storm was truly devastating and I have never heard 75 mph winds outside of my apartment. It was terrifying.  I hope GNR kills it Halloween night!

SHIT !!!! insurance can replace TVs, furniture, and other stuff but can't replace the sentimental aspect of it .........  Undecided

That sucks man.  Sorry to hear it.  Sort of like what happened to Baz's house last year during Irene.  Sandy was devastating.  Seeing the pictures of a desolate NYC is scary in a way.  Hope things turn around for you, WAR41, and others that were struck hard by the storm.

Have fun.

Geez, the roller coaster in the ocean, subways and tunnels flooded, Ellis island closed indefinitely, people without utilities, gas and food.  It's shocking from here.

A fellow Guns fan who is a good friend of mine posted about the flooding yesterday and how it has affected his neighborhood in New York.  I work with a volunteer group in Lansing, MI with former NFL running back TJ Duckett.  I had the simple idea to mail the family some young kids clothes and toys to help them out.  The group I work with caught wind of this and it has snowballed quick.  We are filling a trailer in Michigan with supplies and taking it to this fans neighborhood next week.  TJ Duckett's t-shirt company has designed 3 shirts where all of the money will go towards this neighborhood.  Normally I wouldn't post something like this on the main thread here. I actually rarely post here at all, but read the site daily.  Anyway, if any of you would like to consider buying a shirt to help out a fellow fans neighborhood in a time of need, here is the link:

Also, I sent this to Ron on facebook and he has already posted the link.  I can't thank him enough for helping to spread the word.

I live in far Rockaway NYC. I Just saw this thread now because we haven't had power in 4 days. All I got is Internet on my phone which is almost never. It's probably gonna be a while till we get power back and gasoline at gas stations.
The only thing that's keeping me going is knowing I'm flying to Vegas in 12 days for GUNS N ROSES!!! ok

We didn't get power back, only cell phone service.
It's cool though I'm spending most of my time at work in Hewlett, Long Island where there is power.
Getting tons of overtime so I'm gonna party like CRAZY in Vegas! beer

This weather is insane!  The wind is blowing wildly, snow is flying.  It's early November, this is ridiculous!  Here in CT, there isn't much accumulation at the moment, though it has begun to stick to the roads.  They're calling for 3-7 inches overnight though.  I hope they're wrong, but they seem to be right more than not these days.

This is just adding insult to injury for those that were affected so terribly last week.  rant

A friend in NJ saw one of the electric crews from my state.  I know someone who works for them and he's generally gone all winter helping in some other state.  Long hours in the cold and shitty food.

So did you guys see LA Search and Rescue?  Love those guys.
