Title: Chicago, IL at All State Arena - November 15th
Post by: shedkid on September 09, 2011, 11:53:41 AM

I heard Allstate Arena on Nov 15th from a friend that works at the venue.  Makes sense after they announced this Kansas City date.

Edit: Split into its own thread for a possible Chicago date. /jarmo

If true, looks like they be going west/mid west after Florida, then hopefully up the east coast

That'd be sweet. I assume Detroit would be right after that or soon after. I will definitely be at Chicago and anywhere they hit between there and Detroit.

Not necessarily. There is two weeks between Orlando and Kansas City. I would guess in that two weeks they'll stick to the east coast? I have no idea, haha. I guess we shall see soon!

Could be! I was just guessing if they did east coast first they'd hit Chicago before KC, since its 'on the way'

YES YES YES!!!!!!!! my mom actually head something about this and called me wanting to know if i knew when tickets go on sale because she wants to go as well!! she loves Axl and said she hopes they play There Was A Time then said "if not thats fine, just to see Axl in person is enough for me!"

hope the tickets go on sale at the end of this month as my check on the 30th has no bills or anything to pay with so i have it all to play with or get tickets with!!

now....does anybody know if the allstate has a shuttle to and from the venue from the rosemont cta station? i take public transportation and have no clue how to get to the show.

*edit* i hope that Baz opens for them again, just so he can rant on all state again!!!

Before somebody gets the wrong idea. No, I don't know if there's a Chicago show.

The reason this thread exists is because we have a rumor, and because it's possible there will be a show in the Chicago area.

But until we know for sure, it's a rumor....

Not sure about the 15th, but there'll be a Chicago stop on this tour.  I wouldn't go by what someone's friend said, but I'm sure we'll get a date, along with others, announced sooner or later.

His friend works at the Allstate Arena so im sure he might be able to find out about events they have before they are announced to the general public

With being laid off of work so long I don't know how I am going too afford it, but if there is a Chicago show at Allstate I will be there. One way or another. Allstate is easy for anyone to travel too. It is right off the interstate and there are two hotels next door. Allstate crew is the greatest I have seen at a venue.

I hate all the corporate names too, but yes Allstate is the same as Rosemont but the name changed happened well over 10-15 years ago. But if you aren't from Chicago, then it's understood.

But yes, I'll be attending since I haven't seen them since they played here in '06!

i flew to chicago with my wife for the show in 2002. it was right around the same time of year because it was very close to her b-day (as it is this year). very cool show for so many reasons....#1 the show kicked ass!!! great venue and great crowd. it was also cool because we found out a week later that my wife was pregnant with our first child. so while at the show, we didn't realize it but she was about 3 weeks pregnant. my daughter is 8 years old now. whenever i think about the start of my family, that show is part of the story. scary how time flies.

anyway, i love that U.S. dates are being announced. i hope this one is true. chicago is a great city!

i'm hoping they don't hit the NE part of the country in early november, but head out this way at some point after the kansas city show. i will be working from home at that point and will have much more flexibility with my schedule, so i would have no problem hitting a bunch of shows. keeping my fingers crossed (and checking this page every couple hours every day!).  : ok:

I did GA for the last show in 2006.  Got to the allstate arena at 3 or 4 in the afternoon and was able to get front row center for the entire show.  It was an amazing experience, but as I'm a little older and now and might want to have a beer or six during the show, I think I'll secure seats for this one, as close to the stage as possible.

Glad to see it's starting at 9pm.  It always amused me to watch luke-warm GNR fans glaring at their watches around 10pm, but it doesn't look like that'll be an issue this time around.  :hihi:

I've been a loyal looper for years and went to their page and besides the fact they have the wrong date, there still isn't a password? It just says check back later but the presale is tomorrow. Anyone have anything? I've been trying to call the station (hoping to get free tickets by correcting them on the date) but of course that isn't working.

i think well both be alright, i think due to the allstate not being in the city kinda helps not selling out quickly. i think the fact that not even Wrestlemania sold out the allstate would be a good sign that we could still get tickets.

what a shame can`t you get a ticket in the same row as someone on the board? i know it`s not the same as being with friends but atleast you wouldn`t be by yourself and you really want to go :)

This will be my 3rd GNR concert at Allstate.  Saw them at the sold out 2002 show, and the very close to sold out 2006 show.  Both shows were incredible, just like I'm sure this will be.

Post by: Mike McKagan on September 14, 2011, 01:52:41 PM
Well, as I stated before, I got some good seats in the presale.  If, however, you want to know why they're just "good" instead of great, here's the letter I just fired off to Ticketmaster:
To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Mike McKagan [changed for posting in the forums] and I'm writing to inform you of an unacceptable series of events during my attempt to purchase tickets for a concert.  Some background:  I've been a big Guns N' Roses fan since about 1989 (Appetite For Destruction was the first CD I ever owned), and I was quite excited to learn that they had scheduled a concert for November 15th, 2011 in Rosemont, Illinois--a mere hour-and-a-half drive from my house.  I got online and tracked down the presale code that allowed tickets to be purchased beginning at 10am CST through a local radio station--two days before they went on sale to the general public.  So at 9:55 this morning, I began repeatedly refreshing the Ticketmaster site to make sure I was among the very first to secure tickets.

At exactly 10 AM, the presale window opened and I quickly navigated to seat selection, where I was excited to find that seats in Row BB (the second row) were available.  I carefully continued entering information, logged into my account, and entered all of my billing information.  At this point, I was at the screen with the "Purchase Tickets" button in the bottom right corner.  It goes without saying that I was extremely happy to have snagged such ideal seats with a little presale know-how.

However, when I clicked "Purchase Tickets," I received an error screen informing me that the transaction couldn't be completed.  It only gave me the option of navigating backward, which I did, hurriedly reentering my billing information to re-secure the seats before they were rendered unavailable.  This time, the transaction proceeded as planned, but when I received my confirmation email, it showed my seats in Row M, which (as I understand it from looking over the All State Arena floor plan) is nearly twenty rows further back than the original BB tickets I secured.

I'm an educated, rational person, but I also love Guns N' Roses (even without Slash) the way Popeye loves spinach.  Obviously, this was disappointing, so I decided to call customer service.  After all, I did everything right on my end--I should be able to get the seats I deserved for being prepared.  When I got through to customer service, I spoke to a woman (whose name I've forgotten) who listened to my basic story, took my information, and said she'd be happy to help.  I was put on hold momentarily, and when she came back on the line, she informed me that there was simply nothing she could do.  All State Arena's policy was no refunds, no exchanges.  I got that, I told her, but this wasn't a case of me having buyer's remorse, or deciding I didn't want the tickets after all, or not knowing how to order tickets correctly.  This was a case of me doing things right, and the Ticketmaster website failing to operate properly.  In fact, I was literally re-searching for tickets as we spoke and finding better ones with every search.  I told her this.  She told me the same thing again.  I get it, I told her again, but surely Ticketmaster must have some contingency plan for website errors.  Nope, she said.  (I'm paraphrasing.)

At this point, she did two things that genuinely upset me.  First, as I began trying to further explain my point, she began talking over me.  As I attempted to tell her that I simply wanted to see what options were available to me, she began restating the "There's nothing we can do" line in various forms, not allowing me speak, and certainly not listening to me.  Second, she began to insinuate that the whole problem was my fault.  "I just checked our website," she told me after putting me on hold again.  "Everything's coming up fine, so it must be a connection issue on your end."  I told her that there was no Firefox error screen or "cannot connect to website" message when the ticket sale failed.  There was a Ticketmaster screen.  Which my computer clearly connected to.  Besides, just because the website was working now, that didn't mean it was working for me when I attempted to purchase the tickets.  Apparently, it was easier for her to try to paint me as computer-illiterate than to work to address my issue.

Finally, I asked to speak to a supervisor.  She put me on hold, and after a few moments, I was put on with someone named George.  We spoke for all of twenty seconds before the call was disconnected.  (This could have been a connection issue on my end--I have no reason to think he hung up on me.)  I called back again, and this time was connected with a different man, whose name I've also forgotten.  He listened to my story (which I was getting pretty good at explaining by now) and put me on hold while he contacted George.  Shortly, he came back on the line and informed me that George said there was nothing that Ticketmaster could do to rectify a problem caused by their website.  ( I should point out here that the second agent, unlike the first, was professional and apologetic for the duration of the call, and seemed genuinely empathetic regarding the situation.)

So I had now been told by three different people (two directly) that although the Ticketmaster website failed to fulfill my correctly-submitted ticket request, Ticketmaster had no intention of either admitting responsibility for the situation or attempting to make amends with a customer who has purchased from them for years.  I don't think I'm overreaching to call this behavior unacceptable.  The venue rules make the situation complicated, I have no doubt.  Certainly, Ticketmaster has no responsibility to refund tickets purchased in a normal manner under such clearly-outlined rules.  But when the problem lies with Ticketmaster itself (via its website's inability to properly function at a critical time), I truly believe some form of exception could be made, even though it would be much harder than simply denying the customer over the phone while being careful to not admit any wrongdoing (and, apparently, question the computer skills of the customer to boot).

I realize that in the grand scheme of things, the difference between Row 2 and Row 19 at a Guns N' Roses concert probably doesn't seem like a big deal to most people, but to someone who has been patiently waiting to see this band perform live, having been too young to catch them in the '90s and too poor to catch them in 2002, this was a big deal.  Yes, I get to see them, but now the experience will be tainted, whether I like it or not, by looking 17 rows down and knowing that that's where I should be sitting to watch my favorite band.  That's not happening now--I get it.  The better seats have slowly evaporated in the two hours I've spent dealing with this.  All I ask is that Ticketmaster take some responsibility for its failure in customer service.

Best,

Mike McKagan
So irritating on a morning that should be pure awesome.  Oh well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, what with Ticketmaster's glowing reputation for customer service.

Still, getting to see GN'R in 2 months!

Cheers!

Yup, not to mention having to get there at least 2 or 3 hours before the doors open to ensure getting close to the stage.  Did that in 06 and got front and center, but once is enough.  I got mine in the section next to the stage so I'm a happy camper.   :)

Yeah I remember meeting a couple peeps from the forums and that was cool.  Met mynameisjonas from mygnr, a poster from the old days.  But then there was some overweight fourty-something mom there with her young son who kept screaming "God bless you!" to the band, and trying to push me off the front rail to get closer.  I usually don't have a problem with people getting to close to my bubble, but that was getting ridiculous.  :hihi:

Either way, you can't bring drinks into the pit & God knows your spot would be gone when you came back.  Glad I secured seats this time.

A little update on my situation.  After sending the letter I posted earlier, I got a call from Ticketmaster telling me how sorry they were for the screw-up, and offered to exchange my tickets for seats in Row A of section 101.  Slightly further away, but front-row seats, which are much more comfortable for the wife and I.  So, I guess it pays to give 'em hell sometimes.

See you all in November!

EE is closer than any single letter row, but it's also temporary seating, so not as comfortable as the single letter seats.  Either would be fine, though, I'm sure.

I'm sure temporary seats means the kind of seats the venue can make disappear when they need more floor space....

Often they just slide underneath the "real" seats....

Yea, I checked and Section 113 (which is right next to the section I oringinally wanted) are open and cheaper then the tickets I got! But my question is this: I know it's personal opinion, but what do you guys think is better? Section 102, a little closer to the stage but off to stage left or section 113, a little further back but pretty damn close to the middle?

Huh I never have had or seen any problems with security there. I have seen a lot of out of the hand fights that they have had to break up and kick people out. But if your going too pull that shit you don't belong anyway. At least thats the way I have seen it both times I have been there.

All of this US tour news is making me very excited indeed. I think a visit to the US is in order for One.In.A.Million very soon, need to see this band again and can't wait. I'm also very happy for all of the loyal fans who waited for this to be announced, it all paid of in the end.  :)

Tickets seem to be selling a little slow.  You can still get the limit ,8, in both GA and in the lower 100 level.  Tickets went a lot faster for the 06 show.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I really hope the band drops a new single soon, both to bring attention to the tour and to showcase how talented this band is.

No doubt that would certainly help.

I'm sure I'll be called an "apologist" for pointing this out, but nonetheless, the reality is that the overall economic situation across the country is vastly different now than it was in '06.  The unemployment rate was half what it is now.  So, that can't be dismissed as a factor.

True, as I know a lot of people who don't have as much cash to play with as back then.  Still, I just want to see this tour be as successful as possible...

the allstate in general has issues with tickets a good portion of the time, mainly because its not in the city...just to give people an idea...Wrestlemania was here a few years ago, and day of the event they still had a bunch of tickets including a crap load on the floor, and thats Wrestlemania which sells out every year...i think being in a burb kinda hurts the all state. plus i havent seen any ad's for it in any of the free papers here like the red eye, or the reader.

Well I got a fabulous seat in section 102 during the presale, and Hello Axl and I are ready to ROCK!!!!!!
Thankyou so much to GNR and all the powers that be that brought this show to Chicago!

Also the touring company of the Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES are making a Chicago stop for a full week of performances from Nov 8th thru November 13th! It's a hilarious parody and loving tribute to the Sunset Strip metal scene of the late 1980's! They even play a little GNR music. When I saw it in LA, the actor who played Stacie Jaxx loved my Hello Axl tattoo!

So i have the Preparty setup for Chicago.   The party will be here

http://www.shoelessjoesrosemont.com/

Once i get a headcount, they will have a seating area for us.  I will start a thread eventually about it as it gets closer.  This place is awesome.  Nice sports bar, with tons of tv's,  pool tables, and tons of beer.  Check out this beer list

We have an odd start time- not the usual 7:00 or even 8:00.  Do you think it's so we can go right from opener to GNR stage set-up to GNR with minimal time waiting for GNR?  Axl can go on at the typical 11:00-ish without the fans waiting.  What do you think?  Any other cities with the same?

The double letters are first so AA is in front of A. But there is only a few, I don't know exactly, but I know it doesn't go to ZZ, maybe FF or something? It's the section that is kinda on the floor, but not part of the floor, they'll be behind the gate.

I'm in section 102 Row M. Can't F'n wait!!!   ;D

Can't ask a legitimate question about Axl's voice, so now I move on to the late arrivals.

For those of you who have seen GN'R live before:

This will be my first show, and reflecting on Axl's tendency to go on up to 3 hours late at times, should I plan to make this show around midnight?  From your experiences, is it hit or miss when they go on late, or does it happen more often than not?

I'd be there by 10:30 at the latest... He was on stage @ 10:45 last night.. Although odds are he'll be on later than that most of the time, no reason to think he wont be on earlier

Just look at the start times of the tour so far....Be there by 10:30.

At download they were E-A-R-L-Y so get there on time and enjoy the anticipation  :smoking: Its an event, not an appointment  ;)

Yeah, that's the only thing....I don't drink before Gn'R shows. Usually when i start drinking, I don't want to stop, and I have to take a leak every 10 minutes. So i just save it for after the show. Maybe 1 or 2 beers before, but that's it, lol.

Yea, I learned my lesson there during a Megadeth show in Cincinnati back in 2001.  My brother and me drank like a couple of fish during the opening act and intermission.  By the time we waded our way through the crowd and got up front and Megadeth took the stage, we had to freakin pee, big time.

We just ignored it as best we could and rocked out the whole way.  After the show it took us 15 mins to get to the restrooms, and of course they were lined up out the ass.  We just sprinted for the back of the building and pressure washed the back walls.  Whew, it went on for at least 5 or 6 mins.

Afterward though, we hung around long enough for Dave Mustaine to come out and got to meet him.  We didn't tell him about the river of urine running next to his bus.   :hihi:

I kinda love how we are this close to the show but we don't know the opener! I thought I read somewhere on here that Hinder is opening Nov. 9th's show in OK. I hope it isn't Hinder, though my wife will enjoy it! I would not have minded if Buckcherry was still opening. Wonder if it'll be a local act...I don't know, but I love the mystery!!!

So basically I have a question, I have the General Admission tickets which means I get to be in like the pit right in front of the stage right? I wanna get front row (or REALLY close to the stage) and wanna know how or what time I should get to the Arena and go straight down their after buying a shirt  what time should I probably get down to get to front stage and what time should I get to the arena to buy my shirt and have time to get to the front of the stage as fast and close as possible cause this is my first GN'R concert and wanna get SUPER close to remember this night cause I am SOOOOOO Excited :)

Any information would be helpful Thanks :)

Get to the arena around 7. Opening band will be on around 9. Gn'R will be on around 11, and then everything will be just fine.

Never done it myself, but the way I understand it is you'd buy the groupon, then bring the printout with you to the box office and get your tickets there. So I'd imagine that yes, they would give you four tickets together.

This was the best concert ever! I had such a great time. My seat was great and I met a really nice couple who said their wedding theme was GNR because GNR brought them together! So Sweet. I was able to hear all my fav songs! Axl looked and sounded great! The whole band was tight. Screw a reunion! This is the best band. One funny and potentially dangerous thing happened. I took it upon myself to try and break up a fight between an obnoxious lanky teenager and an older bad ass huge biker type dude. All 5 foot 1 and 98 pounds of me. It started in the beginning of NOVEMBER RAIN. Fortunately the husband of the couple I met who was a biker in his younger days told security to keep them away from his wife and me. Then the two blokes and their female companions were booted from the show. We all agreed that was REALLY REALLY REALLY STUPID OF ME!!!!!! But I still had a great time! Thankyou to Axl and the entire band. Beta looked cute on stage!

 : ok:

Glad to hear that you had an awesome time! Wilkes-Barre is 4 days away - I am beyond psyched!

Wow amazing concert! Best experience ever! Sorry I lost track of updates! Once rocket queen hit I was in awe! I have some amazing pics and vids! I'm checking out my hotel right now with a huge hangover and I'm wearing it proudly :)

Axl sounded amazing ! The band was on fire! We were so close we can feel the heat from the pyro :hihi:
I don't think Axl is human being! I was exhausted when the show was over and Axl was running around like a mad man!
He looked great ! Trim and fit and was in a terrific mood the whole night!

Best time ever! More stuff to come once I get a chance to upload everything!

Guns n roses are the real deal folks!  :)
