I Won't Be Told Anymore

« Reply #60 on: May 31, 2006, 01:11:02 PM »

I don't think there's the stigma that was onces attatched to it anymore.  It's perfectly fine.  Aslong as you're careful and wise and speak for a good while before meeting. If it's going to be something worth doing (meeting up) then being patient is a good way of seeing how the other person reacts to that.  And make sure you speak on cam a few times to make sure the picture is that person lol.

And be realistic... it's great when you meet someone that you automaticly click with and can talk to all night. But if you're living far away from each other and you don't have any money to see each other regular, then my advice would be to just stay good chatty friends. Because it can hurt if good intentions don't manage to come true.  But if it's all good and you want it to happen and your enjoying each others company, don't worry whatanyone else thinks, it's your life  ;-)

Still, if someone puts a picture of their friend (or a total stranger) online then shows up looking completely different I think the person they're meeting has every right to walk away.  Really, they should've been expecting that reaction when they put the faux picture up.  It's deliberately misleading, right?  A date-trap. yes

Yes, totally.

I don't understand why somebody would put up a fake pic and still intend on meeting the person they lured online. They are going to see that you lied to them from the start. The first thing you did was lie to somebody........nice way to kick off a new friendship/relationship.  Roll Eyes

From a recent french survey, almost half of the online daters lied about themselves.

They have also found out " married/concubined"men were more likely to put fake photos ( and i don't care if idiots say i don't like men, it'(s not me saying, it's surveys)

They also said that the main reason people try to "date" was quick sex.

Exactly.....I was already standoffish about doing the date in the first place, and to be lied to immediately was a huge shock.  I mean sure she was a monster, but even all shallowness aside......that's a fucking big no no first off......oh sweet nice to meet you, nice way to steal an idenity first time I meet you!  Maybe the chick was gonna rape me or something (lord knows she could have overpowered me) I dont' know.....but needless to say, what a shitty thing to do.   Fuck first off why would I lie to meet someone online in the first place....just something I wanted to try out and she initiated conversation first (yes much like Captain Howdy) and thank god i was like hey let's meet in a public place.  The Billster might not be around today at all spreading his love!  beer back to meeting chicks in bars peace

I dont have anything against heavy girls, but if a chick posts a pic of her being thin and u meet them and they are HUGE, its matter of trust.

If they are gonna lie about that, what else are they lying about?

Like SLC said, U cant start something off with a lie like that.

Ya know!??

What are these people thinking?

I'm pretty sure if they're bad enough off to commit idenity theft......then like D said, they're probably a double bagger.  If they're bad enough in that situation to have to meet lovers in a situation like that, then odds are they're playing with a Pinochle deck.
But then again did you guys ever see that Tyra Banks show.  She got all fixed up in a fat suit and met guys on a blind date and they all shrugged her off.  In a sense I wouldn't think that that's something to go do and prove for your show, fuck we already know people are very picky about that stuff.

Dead on. And I'll carry a gun just in case, too.

But there was once this girl I'd thought I'd bang since she looke damn nice, but I didn't like her personality. Anyways when I met her she was some fat annoying girl.

Fortunately I had a date next day, too, so I drove her to train station and picked up the new girl, lol the look on her face.

The new girl, she looked damn nice.

I'd prefer the old fashioned way though myself.

The great thing about technology is that things change. The "old fashioned way" in the 19th century was  marrying your neighbor. Technology = new  opportunities=change, and change is good (for the most  part). The fact is, with people  so busy and stressed for time, the internet  can be an  efficient  and effective  way to meet people.

I would say that paying a few bucks  to a professional site  to act as a "filter" is worth the money because it saves you time, and ultimately, money, as you don't waste bucks  on lunches and dinners  with people  you have no  interest in pursuing a relationship.

The best  way is a connection through a  mutual friend, but today,  that does  not always work, so internet  dating can be  effective, but the  free sites are caveat emptor.

i think the internet is a good way to make and meet friends too, i mean im fully prego and not working, my parnter works an hour away from where we live.. it's hard to make friends off the street u no... all my friends are yobbo's and not the type of ppl i want my child to be brought up around...they dont have very good morals and shit like that. i mean hell yea i was a hella big party girl but it aint apart of my life anymore... so no offence to yobbo's, i used to be one ....

Nothing wrong with it. I gave it a try in 2000 when it was still fairly new. Tried it on & off and then 2 years later I met my future wife on Yahoo Personals.  So it worked great for me.

What led me to try it was that I got tired of the bar scene and was finding it harder to meet people who were on the same page as I was at when I was approaching my late 20's & becoming more responsible.
