what songs from the leaked ones would you sacrifice for some of the so called big guns? when it's time to "wrap up the baby", which 2 tracks could you easily trade in for some other, unheard stuff. i mean in terms of the QUALITY of the songs. having heard a leak too often, should not be the reason for dropping one song. think of what would blow people out there away, and what not.

simple question, feel free to answer, ignore or delete.

for me it's a) irs and b) chinese democracy (that was never leaked, so i cheated a bit)

I'd take any of the tracks I've heard over any "big gun" that I haven't heard.

nah, catcher and better are in my opinion songs you have to hear, or you really have missed something in your (musical-)life...

Hmmm...

IRS and Better have to stay.  I know I'm in the minority on this, but I love IRS...still.

That only leaves 2 real "leaks" to trade out......unless you cheat like whiny did.

If I get to cheat it would be Rhiad and Silkworms. Smiley

But if I don't it would have to be Catcher and TWAT...though it would kill me to do it.

if you don't just count the leaks, but also the live versions, i'd go for silkworms and rhiad; but this is not a real choice, for we know (do we?) that rhiad and sw won't be on cd. so if i neglect them and choose from cd, blues, madagascar, twat, catcher, irs, better, still cd and irs (or maybe twat) have to make room for something BIGGER.

Rhiad and Silkworms please don't release these, I don't like them.
All of the other songs we've heard, live and leaked, hopefully will be heard finished at some point.  I love Better and CITR.

Well I'd have to say I.R.S. and....wow...this is a tough one.

I've kind of gotten attached to Better, the way I did with Oh My God.

Sadly, I'd have to say Chinese Democracy. Then again, I haven't heard the studio version, so I could be wrong there as well. That tune could blow us all away.

I couldn't get rid of T.W.A.T. or Catcher. I'm hoping if any of the leaks, those two are on the album. There's something epic about both tunes.

Here's a question. When's the last time anyone mentioned The Blues? Maybe that one could be sacrificed.

Chances are, if two were to go, it would be one hard rocker, and one ballad.

Since C.D. is the name of the album, that one will probably stay.

It would probably be I.R.S. and The Blues, but I still don't think C.D. is that strong of a tune.

haha...gotcha.

I don't know about C.D.

I mean, it's a rocker, sure. But it sounds almost..dare I say...bland. Like the rest of the shit on the radio today. Maybe I'm just expecting too much as a long time fan, but there's just no "feeling" to that song, if that makes any sense.

Maybe Jarmo would like to jump into this debate. It's actually one of the few I've taken part in on this forum..so bravo for making a thread where I don't feel the need to belittle people

I'd trade...

I.R.S. - song is decent, but being that it's meant to be a straight ahead rocker, I think it falls short just a bit...good song, not great

&

Better - a better (no pun intended) rocker than I.R.S. but the strength of T.W.A.T. & Catcher in the Rye is too great to cut from the album...if I cheat, I guess I would keep Better over Chinese Democracy (although I really like that song's punch and simplicity).

Madagascar & The Blues are great songs (especially the latter) and should definitely make the album at all costs. Rhiad & Silkworms I can do without...although I'd be interested in hearing a studio version of Rhiad before I make such a hasty decision. I like the song's hook, but the majority of it lacks for me.

If I'd go with all songs performed on the 2006 tour...

IRS. That's an easy one.

And I know this will get me flamed, but...

The Blues.

I love the RIR3 version, but since then the song's lost some thrill for me. Now, if they'd put the RIR3 version to the album, that'd be a different story.

CD is bland, but the song is the title song off the album and I just can't see them putting it on the album as it sounds now. I just hope its been re-worked a bit. I mean they brought Andy Wallace in (supposedly) and I can't see him just opting to keep it plain and normal sounding. If it were released a few years ago i think it would have been much more modern sounding but time seems to have caught up with this particular song.

I always thought Better was a "big gun"?

any how if we assume Rhiad and Silkworms are already shelved then...

CD and IRS ...

of course this would necessitate an album name change (maybe no bad thing)..  then the follow up album could be a re-worked Chinese Democracy..?

axl would not have to change the album title if he dropped chinese democracy; there is no song called appetite for destruction, lies, use you illusion, spaghetti i. or live era; but if cd is not on cd, then it's quite impossible that this track will appear on any other, later released gnr cd... well maybe as a b-side of a single from cd.

I always thought Better was a "big gun"?

wel the "big guns" were mentioned in 2002 i think...with the same thing as the songs we heard live wouldnt even be on the album...and the disk would have 18 tracks plus a bonus disk....4 years later @ the Korn part he said Betterwas one of his favs (along with IRS and Blues? correct me if i'm wrong) and there would be 13 tracks...

anyway what i'm getting at is that the album has obviously been in a near constant state of flux so old quotes are sometimes irrelivant peace

I agree 100 percent with what u said about The Blues. That song is the perfect example of how tinkering too much can actually destroy a song. It was perfect at RIR3, now its bland, slow and boring.....................

I say why dump two songs they can just extend the album!!!!!!!!!!!

Id dump Chinese Democracy and Rhiad

I like Silkworms better than both of those.

I suppose I am too, but only because I haven't heard the other songs.  See what I'm saying?  All things being equal, I love Better and Maddy so much I can't imagine 2 other songs being "better" (no pun intended).  Newer, maybe...but not better.

I think a better way (at least for me) to look at it is this:

How good is the leaked material and would I be disappointed not to hear final mixes of it?  The answer, for me, is yes...I'd be disappointed if all 4 leaks weren't on the album in finished format, because I so want to hear where those rough mixes end up going.  But I'd be less disappointed (and that's relative) if Catcher and TWAT were not there.

mhh. albums are normally not longer than 79 minutes; 13 songs are slated for the album... 6-7 of those we already know. so there's not much room left, considering that there are some real epics to come...

Chinese Democracy has gotta go. Sorry, opinions are opinions and my opinion is that song is bland psuedo-grunge. If I were a casual fan, saw the album on the racks and decided to listen to the title track first, I'd be really bummed.

If I had to pick another song to be eliminated I'd say Madagascar...I think it's a good song but I like The Blues and TWAT better...it also reminds me a bit too much of Stairway to Heaven at times (Am-G-F chord progression, common in rock n' roll, but like I said, the other ballads stand out more to me).

All I know is if CD includes Better, I.R.S., TWAT and The Blues, you will be seeing a lot of four and five star reviews in the press.

I really wish for that, to me it's the weakest of all the new songs excluding Silkworms...It doesn't have to be on the album it could come out later like "Hoses of the Holy"

Pretty sure most of the big guns we have already heard, at least the ones that Axl said were big guns.  Based on Bach's statements i would guess that there are some other big tracks as well, but I am guessing Axl isnt hording some amazing tracks, I think Better, the Blues and TWAT were probably his favorite.

I wouldn't say that to CITR.

I don't mind at all if there're a few songs or even several that aren't my cups.

Here's a question. When's the last time anyone mentioned The Blues? Maybe that one could be sacrificed.

AAAAAHH the Blues is the best one. No Way!!!! If I had to trade two of the better leaks in Id trade in TWAT and Catcher even though I love both of these songs. But Better and IRS are just really good. But seeing The Blues live trumps anything ever. Those screams at the end.

All I know is if Better, The Blues and There Was A Time are three best tunes I've heard so far. I couldn't trade them for anything. smoking

Just the leaked songs?  Or is it out of all the songs we have heard?

T.W.A.T. definitely.

I think the studio version WILL BE one of the "big guns" !

I would THINK that the newer songs that they've played semi-regularly would be on CD (CD, Maddy, The Blues, IRS, Better).  Then again, the old band was playing KOHD and Don't Cry (among others) LONG before UYI's were released.

I'd kick off IRS, for sure.

Weak lyrics, repetitive progression... it's really not too special. I do love the intro and outro, and Axl's intense scream toward the end - But other than that, it's pretty bland.

the repetitive progression is somewhat of a problem (on the leak); live, there's more excitement and suspense to the song; still, i'd drop it; also merck said that irs is one of the "weaker" songs...

you can add tons of pitman effects and bucket/bumble solos....it doesnt turn "better" into a good or better song.

better go, go!

I find it very unlikely that CD, or part 1 of CD, will contain like 5 or 6 of these leaked songs... cos then we've waited 10 years on a record to be released, half of which we'v been listening to for years anyway.

an article on the official gnr site once said, that during the last tour almost half of the cd album had been played... so if you add "catcher" you already know more than half of the album (7 out of 13)... this is some reason, why i said "2 leaked songs / songs we already know have to make space".

I wouldnt be surprised if Oh My God made it on the album.  I know theres all this stuff out there about Axl having 37 songs done etc... My guess is this album will have a lot of songs on it that we have heard, I highly doubt he would kick out IRS, The Blues, Better, TWAT, CD, Rhiads...It sucks, but all of the songs Axl called "Big Guns" we have heard so I bet by the time the album comes out we will have heard in some form 80% of the tracks.

i don't understand your logic; why have we already heard all of the big guns? how do you come to this conclusion? if omg and rhiad are on cd, i'm thinkin' about quitting being a gnr supporter... this would be a true letdown and a sign, that axl and the new guns don't have much to offer. but it won't be the case.
