Title: A taste of what's to come...
Post by: Tj on June 21, 2005, 10:17:18 PM
I keep coming across stupid posts recently, and people who generally seem to just want to cause trouble. Is it logical to assume that when/if CD is released, there'll be quite a considerable influx of people with similar intentions to people such as Chester the Molestor etc?  :-\ This place could become un-moderatable (...if that's a word. Well, it is now) if thousands more people start registering. I think our community - so to speak - here in it's current form, would/will become a thing of the past.

Cut the bullshit, are you asking to be a moderator?   :hihi:

I guess the situation you're suggesting would be if the CD is actually successful.  If that were the case, it would be a situation that hasn't ever really existed (where the internet exists and there are a lot of GN'R fans -- Fuck's sake that just reminds me how long ago GN'R actually released an album).  It will be interesting to see, but I'd think most of the people you're talking about will head to a site like mygnr.... I think the way people on this board post doesn't give the "Chester the Molester"s of the world whatever satisfaction they are looking for.

I have to agree with Tj - this board is being swamped by increasingly stupid posts, in the past we've had a core of decent people posting but since the beginning of the year - well, so many of the posts are just mindless, and i don't think any names need mentioning.

That's something I have personnally considered, and it's worrying me a little. We will probably need stricter rules, if not more moderators. Wait and see....

Some people whine at me when I mention it in the GN'R section. I don't like the fact that we get more and more "LOL", "Yeah! It rocks", "I totally agree!", "Great post! LOL!" etc kinds of posts.

In addition to that a lot of people think it's a good idea to talk about other things except GN'R in the GN'R section. For example, Nirvana....

I'd like to think that people can sort out their own posts before we need to start doing that. So if everybody could just think for a second before posting, I'm sure everybody would be thankful.

Sorted.

Point taken, i will do so in future! ?:-[

What you have to bear in mind though, a lot of the more recent posters, who post bollocks, continue to NOT think before posting and non of them learn their lessons or read the rules...

Maybe, as a suggestion, you should post the rules of the forum in the initial sign up process so people are aware and if they break the rules, ban them.
I know its a hardline to take but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

I learnt with constant beatings in Jarmo's cupboard whilst in the Gimp uniform...i think the NOOBS should learn some damn discipline as well!

UI, you cant even handle your Mascara properly when applying it to your gothic eyes! How could you handle 150 million GNR fans who post shit....?? ;)

The rules do show up when you register and you even have to check a box that says you agree.

Get rid of the check box...i dont know about anyone else, i never read them...unless im buying summat!
Then when u ban someone, you can say...READ THE RULES.

Theres gotta be someway of making the Noobs know about the rules and that if they break them, they will be booted. Perhaps im being too harsh, however, ive noticed a decrease in the number of "Regular and long term" posters in the last couple of months, im not saying the amount of shite we sift through to read something worthwhile is causing this but it certainly puts me off posting! That and the moderators being shit and the admin being a dictatoring evil scumbag! :-*

Title: Re: A taste of what's to come...

I think you're overreacting here Teej. There's always been, and will always be a certain status quo and cyclic surge of some degree of cretinism here on the board. It's unavoidable, not un-moderatable*.

Now granted, there will surely be an influx if and when CD gets released, but it will most definitely be handled, as Jim said. And speaking of said moderator, it's just as well to use him as an example:

He's constantly locking, warning and what have you, whilst citing substandard behavior as the cause for his actions in a forum where the benchmark of member quality is higher (because of exemplary moderation) than other half-assed rock band forums. It's great! And so I don't really see a looming crisis.

Oh, and is there really someone called Chester the Molestor?

*Not a word

But lots of people probably skip to the end without reading and just check the box. I think the Gn'R sections should be more strict and the people who start really really stupid threads should be warned three times then banned

How do u defeat an attention whore?

U ignore them

when those people come on and post nonsense

dont complain, dont post, dont cuss them out, dont do anything, simply dont post or say anything

they will quickly get bored and find somewhere else.

Works in day to day life, but not in the high tech media world!
Say we get 100 new members, all starting new topics, all bullshit in the GNR section, are you telling me, you want to sift through page after page of crap i certainly wouldnt and thats what discourages me to even look at the link for the GNR section, and more recently, The Jungle.

Maybe im over reacting regarding the number of new people but you get my picture?
At present we have 4174 using 8718 topics to post in?
My question, how many of these are locked and or contain threads we have all(old timers 3 years +) seen before?

Its gonna happen, if CD is released and there will be some pissed of fuckers, but will the pissed off = the attention seeking whores we see all too often?

D,
Do me a favour if you will, count all the threads that mean nothing out of the 8718, ie, Bollocks, shit posts, Slash Vs Buckethead, etc etc.
I expect an answer in 10 minutes GMT. that will be 9:50PM.
Happy hunting fucker! ;)

But they don't - c'mon don't force me to list names - these people don't write opinion they write nonsense, 'priests have no souls and believe in utmost cruelty' was one i ran across the other day - and they don't go away.

This board has a lot of intresting characters and is great for learning about bands (must have added 100 bands to my collection due to this place!) - its just very frustrating to see these same people writing nonsense every day and in every thread

Not only do they chat shit but we have numerous threads that are identical if they used the damn search function they would know we already have exisiting threads for their topics...when they start a damn thread to ask what people think of an album if they'd used the search function they'd see 20+ people had already said what they think of it.  They always fucking SHOUT, and what's with the vs. obsessions?  The GN'R sections in a time warp topics keep popping up everyday but if you went back 2 years you'd find half of them are just the fuckin' same

Okay - can something please be done

I logged in today and the first thing i read is this

Back in the mid 80's, my aunt used one at her friends house. The person speaking through the board was this 13 year old girl who had been murdered in our town several years before that. It freaked them out. My aunt's friend's mom threw the board in the garbage.

Can some guidlines be laid down for what the management views as 'sensible debate' and what constitutes the ramblings of maniacs?

I struggle to see how people claiming they talk to dead 13 year olds is not the writings of the disturbed - and these type of posts are everywhere - and jameslofton29 has an uncanny ability to write posts of this 'quality'

I think you're a bit harsh on that one. The thread is in the jungle section. And some people might have find it interesting because there are answers in there.
For the time being I think the forum is just great the way it is. I don't post much in the gnr section because we have to admit nothing is really happening right now ... well at least if you don't want to comment on sp1at rumors. But the moderators are moderating and things seem to be running well ! So just keep the good work and I'll go on coming here everyday  ;) :) : ok:

We are not to worried about now, just when CD is released if at all, hey we might not need to worry, it could be shelved! : ok:

With that being said, its good to solve a problem at the root of the problem, so nipping all the bullshit, repetitive and meaningless posts in the bud now will quell people thinking they can do it in the future.

I know a lot of the NOOBS have problems with how J runs this place, well to be honest they can fuck off, he does a bloody good job and i think he could be a hell of a lot stricter if he wanted.

I think Iz is trying to point out the direction a lot of threads and posts take as opposed to that particular one, its one of many that can all too often stray, i dont see the problem with that thread personally because its something ive done, enjoyed and would do again, i just dont feel the need to post in there.

Maybe we are being a little vecetius(Sp?), maybe we are being old fashioned, maybe seeing how everything used to be and seeing it now makes us cynical as to the people who post bollocks.
Who knows, i just miss all the old people who used to post a lot, i dunno why they dont anymore, its a damn shame in fact but hey they will all have there reasons!

Fuck it, im ranting bollocks again....im done with this thread.

Bastards! :'(

I think you're a bit harsh on that one.

Its an example - if u want more examples just click 'last posts' of any of a dozen or more posters i could list now - but again, will refrain from unless requested

Their posts are stupid and immature nonsense, and it wasn't this way a year ago

I don't believe we will see CD for years and frankly i don't care, i continue to return for info on other bands - this is still the best board for music after all, and its the best because untill recently the idiots where kept at the gates

Quote

Indeed, since they left things have been different

Anyway, now i'm off to post about Axl's teeth or monsters living under my bed, and without using anything resembling grammar, i may even write in red OR IN CAPITALS

What has happened to this place?

We get this:

Please read...

Apart from B-Sides/Rare songs, please do not add a song by a band with a major record deal, or bands who get serious airplay.
If you wish to recommend a song, please describe the band, and song.
Post your own recommended independent albums/songs only after commenting on another album or song previously posted.
You can however add songs by bands, who have recently hit the big time, but maybe have a few albums (released on indies) the majority have not heard.

If I've missed anything add it.

If the rules are broken, the Mods will delete the post (s).

This may not be as "active" but at least it won't be a big pile of beggars balls.

I'll leave the thread open. First person here can post whatever band they think people might like. G'on.

Seems pretty clear

I think as something gets more popular you are going to get a flood of new people. That is just the way it is. You'll get 10 idiots for every 1 interesting poster. Eventually they tire of getting deleted/locked whatever and will move onto a place that is less restrictive.

I think that is how it will remain, especially as the site continues to grow.

I agree - it just needs someone scouring the threads and weeding out the rubbish, one stupid post can derail an entire thread

It just needs someone who's prepared (or able) to put in the time - combine the 26 Aerosmith threads and delete every post in red or bold font or that defies any resemblance of grammatical sense - and of course to delete all the posts which are just nonsense

I've noticed only a few mods are constantly on. jarmo, for one thing. Pantora, AdZ, Used Illusions seem to be on the most. If this is the best plan that we have, more mods should be "promoted"

Its not the the threads that are the problem (though how many threads are there on the exact same topic or band?) - the bad threads die very quickly - its the bad posts that are the problem, the meaningful threads are still there but in the past it would be full of the serious posters, now its hijacked by people with far less to say...GNR RCOKS YEAH WKD! Such amateurish responses are immensly frustrating to read, contribute nothing and destroy any kind of vibe that the thread has

I see what you are saying. I try to just scroll past and read on.

There are posters here that I indentify as such. As soon as I see their name, I will just scroll down, not even reading what they wrote.

I am on one forum that has the 'ignore' feature. It is great. You can put the people on that feature and NEVER see what they wrote. I love it.

The main problem is very little seems to be done about it unless they continually insult Jarmo they seem to remain and get away with breaking all the rules.

Actually, I don't ban people for insulting me because I don't care about that.

Yeah but since insulting people is against the 'rules' you still should but oh well.....

I cleaned it up.
Cleaned up? looks like you did a quick job...there's still numerous pages of dumb recommendations anyone who wants to look through the pages to see recommendations still has to read the many stupid ones.

Yeah, I did a quick job since I don't feel like going through pages and pages of posts to decide what's good and what's not.

I could just delete everything made after the first post so you can start over if that would be better.

/jarmo
Mmmmmm....well it would be an improvement on how it is now....the first 2 pages are fine...after then it goes tits up....seems like a joke when the moderator doesn't feel like sorting things out.

That's about the last time people actually all followed the rules, there's the odd decent post since but the majority are bollocks, anyway just my view it's your board.

To be fair the 'song recommendation' thread is full of people expressing their disappointment at the endless posts which break the threads own rules

/jarmo
First i left it and thought someone would clear it up...a mod or someone...misfit stated that posts not following the rules would be deleted...nothing happened...ive mentioned it now since it's got worse and worse and worse and with the recent influx of newbies posting 'bollocks' i felt like venting my frustration on this matter, there are others such as the continually 'New' threads which people start up, whereas if they used the search function which works again they would realise there is already an existing topic on the thread...and in many cases numerous cos it keeps happening time and time again.

Edit: Noticed it's sorted now...cheers : ok:

I don't know if deleting all the pointless posts is necesarily the best thing to do.

It sounds a bit too much like a spam war to me...

...People will take it as a challenege. Hell, if they're stupid enough to post some of the stuff I've seen, then...

I'd be more than happy to delete a lot of the shit I read, but it's such a fine line in places to distinguish between contributing and being a prick that it is hard, sometimes...

Some people seem to be going to Hell with this...

Maintaining the status quo will be sufficient. And you can take that to the bank as an official projection of mine. I mean, it's not as if we're dealing with a singularity here! It's quite simply a case of the same shit, bigger pile.

But what have we got here in this thread? Jarmo, UI and SLC being sensible, while the rest of you are either bandying about apocalyptic nonsense or furtively applying for a job. Get a friggin' grip by!

Its just about getting stuff sorted out - we've managed to get one thread entirely sorted out after months of people protesting - did ignoring abuses in that thread achieve anything? I don't think so

Apocalptic nonsense eh? Saying the number of idiots who contribute nothing has grown and has tainted many threads is the truth - hell, ur as vocal about it in the threads as anyone i can name!

Everyone in this thread visists the board every day - there must be something about the board everyone appreciates, I'd have thought people would be more motivated to see things done right as they are here so often

So I'm not the only one getting tired of reading "WTTJ played in my local Starbucks today!!!" topics???

Great!? :D

Why not just get a hardcore / insider board where only members above 500 / 750 / 1000 posts and at least one year membership can post?

I don't mean something like "fan 1st grade" and "fan 2nd grade" or so. But do you people have any idea how many 12year old kids will come to this board (once CD is out) and do what 12year old kids do on the internet?

Keep in mind that at least 50% of this board are WAY over 20 if not 30.

You could have like 100 mods - it won't help much once the Kindergarten opened its gates. So maybe closing one of ours should be taken in consideration.

Just an idea...

Apocalyptic, on a message board, dont think so...

Hogg! (two g's right?) First off I'm well aware of the urban mythology here on the board. I've been around for a while, man.

Secondly, you were under the apocalyptic nonsense category, not the other one.

Thirdly, the aforementioned apocalyptic comment was what you might call an artful allusion to this undercurrent of an idea that the board will reach a breaking point with the increasing number of nonsensical posts and those responsible for them. Something that I disagree with and will cover off - again! ::) - in my response to Izzy.

Apocalptic nonsense eh? Saying the number of idiots who contribute nothing has grown and has tainted many threads is the truth - hell, ur as vocal about it in the threads as anyone i can name!

My original comments:

I think you're overreacting here Teej. There's always been, and will always be a certain status quo and cyclic surge of some degree of cretinism here on the board. It's unavoidable, not un-moderatable.

That the number of members - and consequently, cretins - has, is and will continue to increase, is certainly something that can't be argued. But some of you guys are going off yer fuckin' heads as if there's some sort of impending crisis about to befall us; whereas the truth of the matter is that we're operating under the same general conditions that we always have operated under! The only difference is the natural proliferation of the new members. It's like I said, same shit, bigger pile. And because this is a very well moderated forum, and has obviously done well in the past, I have complete faith that Jarmo will do what must be done, if and when such a time comes.

All I can say is, this happens from time to time. We've had a board since 1999, or something like that, and occasionally we get a flood of newbies.

It takes a while for them to get the "feel" of the place I guess.

But since 1999 (6 fuckin' years!) there hasn't been a Guns N' Roses album released with new material.  IF that does happen and it is successful, there will be more than the typical "flood" of newbies and that's where the problem might come from.

I am on one forum that has the 'ignore' feature. It is great. You can put the people on that feature and NEVER see what they wrote. I love it.

Now there's an idea - it's almost like having the power of a BanMaster.    :hihi:

The downside is missing out on the occasional laugh.  For example, that guy who always posts in red or bold in the Axl/Slash/Duff lawsuit thread.  I usually ignore him, but one time he made this hysterical post about how sex makes you gain weight or something to that effect.  I laughed for a good minute or two.

The LA Times had to shut down their internet experiment because some idiots posted pornography.  I havent seen this Chester the molester guy, but fortunately he failed to sabotage HTGTH.

Random SLC, Izzy,Kujo,Journey,TJ,Arron, mike you all dont know newbie posters like I do, U are doing a great disservice to this board by not taking the time to really study this subject.

U are in the public, you are misleading everyone, I have studied this extensively, I am an expert now and I know the psychology of why Newbie posters start these kinds of threads.

Random doesnt know, SLC doesnt know,Journey doesnt know,Izzy doesnt know, I know and why do I know? cause I took the time, did research, I learned everything about this subject and if more people were like me and took the time, this board would be a much greater place.

Well there are 15 yr olds that act like 35 and 35 who act like 14. If a kid of that age has over 1000 posts, more than likely he/she has not pissed of the mods and ads something to the discussion. 1000 posts is a lot of posts. Even if the person wasn't breaking any 'rules', by posting dumb topics, eventually they'd fade away well before the 1k mark.

A note about an 'invitation only' section...

...Firstly, it would never happen. Even if I may actually at times be in favour of it...........

The only way it would work is if it was exactly as I just refered to it as...Invitation only.

Ammount of posts? Longetivity of activty on the board? Come on, what the fuck. That means nothing to me. Surely, by that logic, the umbrella guy would get it.

It would only work if it was just that, invitiation only.

But it will never happen.

This is a public board.

*Urm...The above is my decision, and is thus not 'period', nor conclusive....

Appologies for my posting twice in a row here, but I wish to address another point of which I forogt, and it may be missed if I merely 'edit' my above post....

...Congratulations, you're on the right track to getting this thread to be confined to a few people joking and, as a consequence, not taken seriously anymore and, thus, nothing being done. And, therefore, this thread dying. At least, as far as myself, and various other people go....

Not to offend or piss any of my friends off but I think some of you are being too crabby and uptight. Message boards are suppose to be fun and entertaining. if everyone just posted and no one ever joked around or went somewhat off topic this board or any board would get pretty boring and bland very very quickly.

I can understand a page or two straight of nonsense, but If I take a jab at a poster in a funny way and they jab me back or if anyone does it I find it some of the best shit on the board. Some of you need to learn to relax and just chill, not every thing has to be law and order and stuffy and serious all the time.

so what if someone starts a stupid thread, u have the right to not open it, if its ignorant it will quickly be buried on page 3 in no time.

some are bitching just to bitch cause they have nothing better to do.

On Topic:

Just because a few newbies post crazy shit and what not doesnt mean every single new poster will do so.

I think this board could use an injection of life from some new blood.

I dont think regular posters have stopped posting due to the ignorance of new posters, I think it has more to do with nothing going on lately, even the jungle has been sorta slow here lately with nothing all that interesting.

Im gonna stay optimistic that most newbies will follow the rules and contribute to the forum in a positive way.

Message boards vary so much that it takes a little while to adapt to the style of each board, I know I dont post the same over on my sports forum as i do here, there is an adjustment period to learn what u can and can't do.

cause a poster starts a couple shitty threads and generally posts bullshit doesnt necessarily mean they will always continue to post that way.

so what if someone starts a stupid thread, u have the right to not open it, if its ignorant it will quickly be buried on page 3 in no time.

Simply put, you're wrong.

Again, I post twice in a row, but with better reason...

...If I merely edit, seeing as you are online, you may miss my response, and I appologise for being too blunt.

My point is that personal jokes are not exactly what I would look for in a board that I want to read.

Fine, you and SLC going back and forth with each other can be a laugh, but do I want to read that more than once?

Frankly, no.

Bluntly, if I see the type of 'banter' like that, then i will stop reading a thread.

Simply put.

I know it can be fun, and if as a development of a thread (say, differeing of an opinion that leads thus to...'banter'...then, I agree, it can be funny) then I'll laugh along with the rest of you...
...Obviously not out loud, of course.

Getting too serious was not where I was heading with my above post, in fact, I was heading nowhere.

My point was that if you want something to be done, and discussion to be had...

...Then at least one thread must be sacred. Surely?

Title: Re: A taste of what's to come...
Post by: D on June 25, 2005, 11:42:59 PM
I normally dont do that unless the thread has already kind of went to shit and has already become pointless.

I just dont want the board to get ironclad tight where everything has to be serious and there is no room for a touch of silliness.

I could see if it happened every single thread but usually it doesnt.

U will never see it during the truly serious threads that actually deal with something but that umbrella thread called for silliness.

If someone started a stupid thread like "how long are your eyelashes" that would be dumb and wouldnt add to the board but a simple lock ends it and I just dont see why everyone is complaining.

This board has the perfect blend of seriousness and silliness that keeps it entertaining and interesting.

I just say Dont fix what isnt broke, there may certain cycles where people will start juvenile ignorant threads but it isnt like they will over run the board.

I dont see the big fuss people make over duplicate threads, I mean sure they couldve searched but they are new, give em some slack, when i first started Im sure i started a whole shit load of threads that had already been discussed.

I just feel people are getting too worked up over nothing.

Well you can't have it both ways it seems.

Like I said earlier, who is to determine was is nonsense and what is a fun time?

I see both sides. But at the same time, it seems, if you are not in on the fun, then you have the right to lock the thread. Go figure............

Title: Re: A taste of what's to come...
Post by: D on June 26, 2005, 12:09:49 AM
I mean are we suppose to be a bunch of fuckin robots who post clear cut same ole shit over and over?

This reminds me of little old ladies or conservative christian folk who complain over content on Television

if u dont like it, change the fuckin channel

same with this board'

if u dont like a thread u dont have to enter it.

instead of people bitching and complaining, just dont click on the topic

u have the right not to post.

What some consider stupid and a waste of space I find hysterical.

lets just dont turn this board into a formal borefest.

I dont think its out of control at all.

LOL, what hogwash. It's all different with you isn't it? Yea right.... :P

This seems like the same time there was another fun thread. Everybody having fun, joking around and then.......locked.

Again, who is to determine what is stupid or not? You joke around and that is ok?

That thread was light hearted and fun. But, that is all relative. You may feel your humor with other people is the same, but could it also be mindless "banter" to others? Is that a possibility?

Of course it is.

Maybe, as a suggestion, you should post the rules of the forum in the initial sign up process so people are aware and if they break the rules, ban them.
I know its a hardline to take but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

The rules do show up when you register and you even have to check a box that says you agree.

Yeah! It rocks!

Now, maybe locking the umbrella thread wasn't called for...

...Maybe it was. The point is, I wanted to lock it as soon as it was started, but for some reason didn't...

...And then, last night, I did. Just it's being there was annoying me. If you want it unlocked, ask another moderator? I sure as hell am not unlocking it. That said, maybe it is unlocked already? I haven't checked...I don't know.

The reason I locked it was to discourage the starting of threads that are like that, not necesarily because of it's progressional content which, I'll admit, I overlooked.....

Why hasn't this 'August' poster been banned?

This is precisly what i have been talking about the free run given to these idiot posters

Are they now protected? - in the past they were gone before one even had the chance to click 'report to moderator'

For years this board was run so well - and now, it kinda feels as if people have just lost interest

Right now  saturday 25, it's a BALL !

I mean, my neighbours have this HUGE party, for the kids i think, it's full of kids of french, american and english nationalities.

They had games this afternoon, with a little one trrying himself out in some LOUD microphone and now, everyone is having music and dancing, i can hear the DJ telling the parents to come and dance and my isolated posh neighbourhood is now screaming and singing " YMCA"...

Seems like a good party !!!!!!!

So i enjoy it from here... :hihi:

( they all go OOh OOh OOh now lol )

Why is this 'party' thread allowed? Are we now allowed to post anything we observe in our daily lives?

Can i start a thread about the cloud i saw this morning?

Ahh, but maybe not, in reference to both of the above.

Snippy? Snippy when, exactly? You're the debater here, come on, we need examples to back up a statement as brash as that, surely?

Now, immature...

Nearly everyone involved here has tossed at least one valid point into the fray...

But it's like this:

There is no impending crisis, things are as they always have been (which is fine by me), core members will always throw esoteric banter and inside humor at each other, sensible people will meet in the middle when it's time to be sensible about a topic (sensible = honestly tackling a topic and getting foolish (foolish = a whole lot of different things) only in the end), some people need to loosen up, others need to tighten up, and nothing, nothing, NOTHING is black & white except a final decision made by our god, Jarmo.

Now, I calculate I'm through with this thread...

this isnt a houmorus thread, in case you didnt read through the whole thing, first of all. Secondly, if you wernt quite done than you go back and you hit the edit button to fix your post. And why you would want to boost your post count? Because people with more posts tend to have more prestige. But you've been comming here since 1999 so that means you knew this already. Please. Can i start a thread about the cloud i saw this morning?

You could try.

I don't give a damn about Bon Jovi, so should we ban all topics about that band?

The Jungle is meant for off topic discussions, it's also a bit more relaxed than the rest of the board. In case you wonder, topics other than Iraq, politics and religion are allowed.

That doesn't mean everything is allowed. You won't see anything like "The alphabet game" posted there, where one poster posts A and the next posts B etc...

We're not machines, I don't know if you've noticed that. Sometimes we let things go on and other times we just get rid of them before you can say "Why isn't this locked?".

I have to apolagise - my posts in this section were born of a believe that this board prided itself on being great and had unwittingly strayed, but its apparent average is good enough - in which case, i made a mistake in seeing more to this place than there was

Your idea of great might differ from everybody else's idea.

It's kinda hard for us to just go by what you think is great and then moderate after that.

I don't see the big difference. I still remove stupid useless posts (for example: "I agree"), lock threads, merge them and so on.

Post by: D on June 26, 2005, 06:38:11 PM
why u gotta use bon jovi for your example? :hihi: :hihi:

The way Ive always looked at it is this is a huge message board.

If someone posts an ignorant thread, to me it will fade away very quickly or if people act crazy in it, it will wear off in a week or so and the thread will vanish.

Its kind of the same argument back when we had that big deal over "The either or game" and all that.

Silly, stupid threads dont stop people from posting in the serious good threads nor does it stop people from creating good threads.

Really the only thing that aggravates me on message boards is when mods allow several of the same threads.

Im on a message board and I can start a New York Yankees thread and people won't post in my thread they will start brand new threads to talk about the yankees.

I hate that and I have never in my whole time coming here saw a mod allow that, everything has always been combined etc. so thats why I dont have any problems with this board.

If the board got where we couldnt joke around or have any humor, this board definitely wouldnt be as great.

A board where there aren't scores of the same thread, where those that post utter nonsense are encouraged to do otherwise, where the one word post doesn't exist

My ideas of 'great' are inspired by the standards YOU claim to have, and now seem reluctant to meet

Strange that all ur attention is on me - and yet our friend 'August' who is a perfect example of the idiot posters this whole thread is about - has got away scot free!

But if your happy with things the way they are - if u value these nonsense posters so much - then why didn't u just say earlier?

The whole thread seems an utter waste of time if there is no room for suggestion

August isn't a friend. Just because I don't announce it everytime I see somebody who I'm keeping my eyes on, doesn't mean I ignore them.

You keep ignoring what I said, I told you I still do whatever I've been doing for years. Now it just seems you're whining for the sake of whining.

We still get shit for locking threads, I still get called powerhungry. And still you have the nerve to say we don't do anything?

There's been days when I've spent most of the day on trying to have this place up and running because the server has been acting "difficult", but you're  upset that there's more than one Metallica thread?

Yeah, I'm not a machine. I don't catch everything.

I don't read the Metallica threads myself so it's not that easy to realize there's 20 of them around if somebody doesn't point it out to me....

The why is there a problem?

U admit u need help catching everything - and this thread has been about avenues u could consider exploring

Surely we have only done what you have just asked us to do? - point out problems, because your not a machine

But some of the problems occur in cycles. That seems to be something you don't agree on.

When a bunch of newbies register at once, the chances are they'll start the same threads that have been posted before.

We merge/lock/delete/move as much as we can, but we don't catch everything.

What other avenues are there? We're not adding new moderators at the moment if that's what you're hinting at. Simply because it's summer, many of the moderators here are away during the summer etc. We'll see what happens once the summer is over.

Every topic has been done probably 5 times over but I just dont take it so personally.

I mean who cares if there are 13 metallica threads?

What I was saying is there isnt more than 1 thread at a time.

On a lot of message boards, u will take time and do a lot of research and post a thread and then instead of people using your thread, 2 or 3 copy cat threads pop up that are exactly like yours and the mods on other boards do nothing.

I have never seen more than one thread a time be active on this board.

granted If i start a superstition thread like I want to, I could probably find something like it on page 37 that was discussed 2 years ago but instead of rehasing that, I figure its easier to start another and start from scratch.

U will never see a thread like "missing girl in aruba"  and then 3 more like it on the same page.

so for the most part I think this site is definitely still the most well kept site that ive ever visited.

Now I agree with Izzy about certain posters.

use to if people posted this or that u would see them get warned immediately about not doing certain things.

that one chick has done it several times already in this thread and I havent saw a warning but one word post dont bother me, i just skip over em but I can understand where he is coming from.

ok so this is what we came up with so far:

no new mods
mods and jarmo try to merge/block/delete as best as they can, but cant catch everything
people who are posting pointless topics should be warned

any other ideas?

"Izzy" here waited around and carefully monitored this thread, waiting for jarmo to come in and give me grief about my posts, and when that didn't happen, he paniced and cried out "why?!" like a little kid, so disappointed that his protector didn't come in to save him so that he himself could jump in in triumph afterwards like a little child being given the toy that his older brother took from him. that's what's up. and if you checked my posts, about 2 out of 62 were freeposts and about 60 was non-criticizing. so go figure. who's the one not contributing here? jarmo, ban him. ::)

Simply put you're a scapegoat for his ulterior motives. Concurrently though, you're no role model for other, newer (or just generally impressionable) board members.

That said, I think this is quite simply a case of you being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Witness the inception of this thread as an example.

"people like me?" you must be fucking dumb if you think that i am in any way here to cause trouble. all i do is post my opinions on things, hell, i even keep complimenting you on running this place smoothly for years! for you to behave this way towards me makes me question your objectivity, seeing as you seem to favor "older" members. well, people who know me personally know that i visit this site damn near every day to stay up on all things guns n' roses, and i sure as hell don't need any moderator intentionally deleting ONLY my posts in a certain thread, even when these posts were sparked by another member's groundless dislike for my being here.

If you don't have anything to add to the discussion except "I agree" or just smileys, please don't post in that thread.
Lot of people find that kind of posts annoying. Smiley only posts are likely to get deleted since they don't contribute anything to the discussions.

This is the reason.
Try reading the rules.

fine. i won't. however, i resent the welcome i have received at this site. i am not usually one to complain about moderators or forum members but not one, i repeat, NOT ONE of my posts have been hostile or aimed to stir up trouble. all i have done is add some fluency to the discussions and post my opinions on things, and yet this "izzy" character wanted me banned for not making long enough posts. it's ridicilous! honest to god, i can not understand this hostility, because i have done NOTHING to deserve it. check my posts if you like, go right ahead. some of you people seem bitter, and although i have always thought highly of jarmo, his responses to my posts have been the likes of "august is not a friend" and "i don't need people like you". what the fuck?! i even complimented the guy twice on his site! this is fucking disturbing, so i think i'll log off now and leave your board to the "old members". good day.

So just because you compliment me on my site I should let you break the rules... Yeah right!

Also trying to insult me, or any other board member, is actually against the rules. So first you post stupid "LOL" posts, then try to insult me and then question why you were warned....
