Not the right way to ask for an explanation by calling a mod/admin a "fucker".

You know things get deleted alot here, It's not really about if your post or thread is legit or breaks any rules, it's weather or not the Admin/mods feel like they want to delete something. Sometimes I feel they are wrong, but sometimes they are right. Weather or not it's a right decision, It's their house. I just go to other sites to get info that isn't posted here.

Listen, only people who take themselves too seriously would get upset by that site. It's obviously satire.

That group would include the admin from gnrevolution.com, who advocated and expedited hacking the original site, and stealing personal information in the process. The same group who essentially "liberated" the files from Brody, are now upset over a spoof GnR site with a similar name? Are you serious? Boo hoo hoo, poor baby.

Pot, kettle, black.

its even funnier to me when the powers that be try to shut down sites like that - it only makes them more powerful.  like when obi won kenobi gets killed.

There is nothing wrong with GNRevolution.net thing. Its hilarious.  Maybe some of u are upset cause the GNR fan not getting laid thing hits too close to home.

Anyhow

What the hell is up with THIS SITE?

I thought this was a Guns N Roses site but on the main news page I see nothing but a bunch of shit that has nothing to do with Guns N Roses.

Is this a fucking "New band Solo Project Website?"

I don't give a shit about Side Projects

This is Fucking Guns N Roses for Christ's sake not a bunch of side projects.

Since day one, The new members have had side projects, other bands, this or that.

Maybe I could accept this band truly as Guns N Roses, if it didn't seem they use GNR to promote themselves.  To me, a band is a band.

U do Band stuff, U don't collect a check and run off and do a bunch of other stuff.

If Gypsy is going to remark on D's post history as some sort of slight, then I will point out the hypocrisy of her statement. It's irrelevant that a majority of my posts are in the Jungle, since I'm not the one who made the statement to begin with. I figured that was pretty obvious, but I guess not, huh?

Haven't you whined about the same thing in the past?

It's pretty logical, when the members have free time, they chose to use it for different things.

Some play shows or record outside of GN'R.

I chose to inform GN'R fans about that.

As far as I know, a band is not supposed to be like a jail sentence....

Or was it Sweeden.

For a Norwegian, you sure as hell have a difficult time spelling Sweden right.....

I just dont understand why the .net link was deleted.  Its just a satirical funny website. Its like GNR fans aren't allowed to have a sense of humor.

U honestly think Axl would get offended by the stuff on that site? I'd almost bet he'd read it and get a good laugh.

I understand the band members want to do other things and not sit on their asses but when news of a stolen Motorcycle *what? GNR fans are gonna go out as Private Eyes and find who did it?" outnumber GNR stories and the front page is loaded with this and that which is irrelevant to Guns N Roses.

Its not a big deal, its not like I walk around all day mad over it, its just the internet but the deleting of this and that gets a little old after a while.

Gypsy:

Im not gonna rip u or Adz but If u check the statistics, I have started more threads in the GNR section then both of u combined.  I post all over the place, certainly not just the wrestling thread.

Also, Taints,Myself,Timothy,Fuckin Crazy,Kujo,Blue Cut and others Im not gonna list a huge list of names but we bring some lightheartedness and humor to this forum which I think, correct me if Im wrong, adds something a little special to the place.

What's satirical and funny to you might not be for others.

Personally I couldn't care less about those jokes.

I will explain the concept for you:

GN'R used their Myspace page to help out a person who's part of the crew that makes GN'R's shows possible.

I decided to put the thing up because I figured that if there's any small way I could help out, I'd do it.

I knew I'd be made fun of, it's "normal" and I expect it from certain people. I don't give a fuck since I'm not doing anything for them.

Its not a big deal, its not like I walk around all day mad over it, its just the internet but the deleting of this and that gets a little old after a while.

Maybe it's because you're involved in that site?

I can 100 percent swear and guarantee that I am in no way affilliated with that site.  I just dig some of the humor on it.

That site is bad ass though and everyone should check it out for a laugh.

what really attracts me to that site is the fact that GnRevolution Dot Net uses the RockinChrome theme designed by Cory Miller

Fuckin Cory Miller!!!!!!!!!!!, if that doesnt make that website a winner, I dont know what does. :hihi:

My point being ... that with the hundreds and hundreds of NON-GNR related topics we ALL do discuss on HTGTH, for you (or any of us) to talk shit about how "THIS SITE" is  run is really fucked up!!!

Also, Taints,Myself,Timothy,Fuckin Crazy,Kujo,Blue Cut and others Im not gonna list a huge list of names but we bring some lightheartedness and humor to this forum which I think, correct me if Im wrong, adds something a little special to the place.
HTGTH has been thriving for over 11 years.  Thousands of "special" members have come and gone.  Some members' leaving made this place even better IMO.  I'm sure this site and forum will survive after youze are long gone too.

Now, even without slcpunk's blessing, I'm going to post my Happy Birthday wishes to those celebrating. :birthday:

Title: Re: What the hell?

Thousands? Are u serious?

hell there aren't a thousand who post regularly now.

I do not kiss people's ass on here, never have, never will.

A lot of people do that hoping Jarmo will hook them up with backstage access whenever GNR come to their city.  I don't care to be critical when I feel its necessary.  I hope Jarmo and whoever still like me regardless of times when I am critical.

Its not like I am always an asshole or always critical or always putting something down.  But when things get deleted, censored etc, I feel a need to speak up and have done so consistently.

It did kind of tick me off when VR news stopped being posted on the main page, when VR section got dwindled down to a subforum.
As I said in another thread. GNR is what I thought this website was dedicated to.

Then u see the frontpage filled with side projects that have nothing to do with what we ultimately want.

Id rather see no news unless it has something to do with the band Guns N Roses. thats just my opinion on the subject.

Gypsy, I think this forum would very very much miss the 15-20 truly core members that have been around posting and doing things for years if something happened.

I belong to a sports forum and every great poster left and now that place is unreadable and really shitty.  posters make a forum great.  We all collectively make this forum great and that should be remembered.

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: jarmo on January 26, 2008, 09:57:23 PM
The whole concept of censorship is somewhat misleading.

Is your local newspaper censored? They don't post every possible news item do they?

Same thing with the news on TV. They have maybe 1-30 minutes to run through their material.

We chose to not post certain things just like the above examples.

It's not about quantity, it's about quality.  ;)

It all comes down to the fact that others have a totally different opinion on what it means to be a fan who supports their favorite band.

Some have the idea that it means they have the right to attack the band day after day based on bullshit facts or wrong assumptions.

I'm not interested in allowing these people to come here and use this site as a platform to spread their "truths".

It's like having somebody come over to your house every morning and telling you how much you suck. You eventually get to a point and say "enough, I know what you think, move on!".

I absolutely agree about people who attack the band day in and day out.

I also think you don't have to agree with and love every single thing a band does to be considered a fan.  If I disagree with something, I will say so and it doesn't make me any less of a fan than u or anyone else.  I hate when people constantly bitch about this or that but I definitely don't do that at all.

I don't agree with deleting a link to a harmless website that no one in their right mind would take serious.

Gypsy:

Im here for Guns N Roses.  the Jungle,Fun And Games etc are awesome sections but I'd much rather be posting in the GNR section about GNR stuff.

Thing is, after 5 years, Every GNR thread has pretty much been done 10 times and I don't feel like giving the same opinion for the 50th time so I don't post much in that section for now.

When the VR section was done away with it was because this is a "GNR BOARD"

well, we are getting news about everything BUT GNR is my point.

I understand the frustration, but the key word in what you wrote, I think, is *former.*  No matter how many replacement drummers the band may or may not have at any given time, they are *current* drummers.    The focus of the main boards here will always on the GnR of here and now, yes?

Who here in this thread does that? Anybody?
I have never spoke badly of this site, I have not been wished a Happy Birthday but I have attemted to apply humor in whatever message I'm in "Usually."  I believe I've followed the advice of Skeba who likes the comedic banter I may be mistaken only he would remember.  Yes I'll admit I will not be performing anywhere soon.  Maybe we should have a happy place with a moderator who judges the content of the humor posts?

Yes again that was an attempt to be humorous.  Sound the car crash.  Lighten up people.  Taint your hair looks perfect like you were going to trader vicks.  Oh the hell with it I'm going outside, not virtually but out outside.  Really I am and no lap top!  I'll put my mouse in my pocket though, just in case I get scared.

This thread is all over the place, give it some riddlin.  Have a nice day everyone.

Speaking of maps, I just bought this huge wall map of the earth. I'm going to put pins in all the locations I've ever gone to. First I need to visit the places in the upper two corners so that the map will stay on the wall.

I dont know which phrase is gayer and more retarded

The "Bon Jovi can Suck My Dick"

or "Get on Board or Fuck Off"

I mean seriously, who the fuck does this guy think he is to say some shit like that to fans.

Axl can do shit like that cause he has this persona and charisma and mystique about him and it works.

When other people try to get hard on the fans, they come off lookin ridiculous and just stupid.

I am an Axl Rose fan

U could put a bunch of Gregorian Monks in GNR and Id still be a GNR fan

Tommy needs to realize how replaceable he is and stop tryin to alienate fans with that kind of bullshit.

If Slash,Duff,Steven,Matt,Izzy,Buckethead,Brain can be replaced, I think that makes pretty much everyone in GNR besides Axl disposable.  he should be more gracious to the fans and not say shit like that.

I think if you read between the lines, especially the comment Axl made the first night at the Hammerstein, Tommy has alot to do with how far this band goes. He isnt flashy or vocal in public, but there is no doubt in my mind, that he has held this band together all this time.

After Westerberg, Axl is a walk in the park :hihi:

I guess thats what makes me different than some people on here.

U have to earn my respect.

I don't bow down and think u are the greatest thing in music history just because u are in a band with Axl Rose.

Just my opinion but for me, u have to contribute to a bands success to be considered a member.  I am maybe wrong on that, but to me right now, Frank is a touring drummer considering Brain was recognized as the official drummer. So is Frank even on Chinese Democracy?

In the right circles, Tommy Stinson is considered far more of a 'legend' than Duff McKagan.

Not that I don't think Duff's bass playing is great, too.

I'm talking about success in Guns N Roses.

Sure he had great success in another band but the band as a whole have to prove they can live up to the GNR legacy and I don't think fans on the fence are asking too much.

Did I say Tommy wasn't accomplished? I dont remember ever saying that.

But the fact they can't understand why some GNR fans are skeptical or on the fence to me is ludicrous. they surely are aware of the shoes they are filling.

U can't really compare Tommy To Duff because aren't they two very different bands?

Duff has came up with some pretty damn memorable bass lines and songs if Im not mistaken and I said it once before. Duff isn't playing Tommy's bass lines right?  I think it is Tommy who is playing Duff's bass lines.

I just don't like that statement. I think it is dumb to tell fans to fuck off if they don't bow down and kiss the ass of the new members who have yet to prove what they can do in this band.

A few leaks and playing the old songs doesn't do it for me. I want to hear an album of what they can do.

Now, in my mind, I believe they will shut everyone up once the album comes out but the album still has to come out before u can make those kind of statements cause he, to me, has no right to make that statement.

Axl can say that because he is Guns N Roses and a major reason for the popularity and success of GNR

Tommy to the casual fan is pretty much unknown and people have no clue he is in GNR.

I asked my boss at work who his alltime fav band was, he said "The Replacements"

I said really? their bass player is now in GNR

He had no idea

See my point?

Not everyone knows this band and the new members are not famous for being in GNR and they aren't the reason most of us are GNR fans so they should be more respectful to the GNR fan who are giving them a chance.

If they feel the fans have no right to be a little upset and skeptical after what all has happened the last 10 years,t hey are living in a fantasy world.

Nothing like using a quote to fit your agenda against a band member.

"As a matter of fact, Eagles of Death Metal were a suggestion of mine a while ago. Turns out they were the wrong band for our crowd. They were booed and did not play for as long as they were scheduled to.

As for all of the inaccuracies that have been said since, I would like to say that's all they are - inaccuracies. In the past I have thrown my bass. I have never thrown it at Axl or anyone else in the band nor has anyone thrown my bass back at me? yet. Axl has been a dear friend to me for nine years. We have no problem communicating and wish that people would stay the fuck out of shit they don't know anything about. There was no GN'R mutiny or any such thing after the Cleveland gig and as far as I'm concerned this tour has been the most fun yet. The band is playing great and getting along better than we ever have. With that said, either get on board or fuck off."

Guarantee u are in the very very very minor category with that.

That is a really horrible Bon Jovi analogy as last I checked Jon is in the same band,

Now if Jon ever left Bon Jovi and joined Queen, or The Doors, or reformed Led Zeppelin with Jimmy Page Then yes, his accomplishments in Bon Jovi would not matter one fucking bit as he would have to prove he could fill the shoes of legends in those mentioned above bands.

I honestly believe and it truly fuckin baffles me, that u guys sometimes have lost sight of just how fucking legendary and huge Guns N Roses once were.

So u would put The Replacements in the same sentence as GNR?

I already have.

Not to make this a personal attack, but how familiar are you with The Replacements catalog?

I remember up until about 2-3 years ago you wanted nothing to do with NIN and would react the same way as this when someone would bring them up. Then once you listened to them you were tripping all over yourself letting everyone know how great they were.

So if you have heard The Replacements and just don't like them, then thats cool I can appreciate that. If you haven't hears them and are just talking out your ass again, maybe you should go download "Dont You KNow Who I Thought I Was" and listen to how many bands that are popular from the 90's to present day patterned their sound directly from The Replacements.

Right off the top of my head I'll list The Goo Goo Dolls, Wilco, Son Volt

There is a medium ground between us "hardcore" fans and those people who couldnt fucking care less what is happening with GnR. call me crazy but i think that to most "casual fans" it doesn't matter who's playing the music or who wrote it.. they wanna hear the music, if they don't see duff playing the basslines they don't care, they don't know who duff is (sadly) some probably see them so that they can say "I've seen GNR" when they say that some people will say "that's not GNR" but it is, the ticket says Guns N' Roses doesn't it?

no fan has the right to say that axl can't call his band GNR when they are GNR, it's not the fans band

if a "casual fan" go to a show and like it they'll wanna hear CD and the old ones too.. when they realize that it's not the same members anymore they won't care, the band they saw put on the best show they've been to all their lives

Buckcherry is one of my favourite bands but i don't know a whole lot about their history, i know that they broke up and i know the lead guitarist and singers name and that they "tried out" for VR, tbh i'm not exactly sure of who are still in the band from the old days, it doesn't matter really the band out there today writes great music and play great shows.. I don't disrespect the former members by thinking that way, they wrote kick ass music

the kind of casual fans who says "it's not the same without slash" or "GNR aint GNR without Slash" and other stuff like that don't even know who wrote their favourite songs.. it could have been izzy who wrote the song but all those guys are saying "this isn't gnr, where's slash?" they just think slash looks cool with the tophat and curly hair, and because of his image they think that he the best guitarist ever.. he's a great live performer and guitarist but where's all that legendary stuff he has put out since he left GNR, oh right he haven't wrote anything of that caliber, when i went to a VR show the songs that got the most cheers were it's so easy and mr brownstone (i'm not really sure why I told that anecdote  :hihi:)

The Replacements are a great band, I checked them out because of tommy and haven't looked back since.. Tommy has "earned" my respect by writing music with that band (replacements) and staying/writing and playing with axl for 10-11 years. I don't understand why he can't defend GNR from cockheads (AKA "fans") thinking they know shit and spreadin' lies

with the philosophy that people must earn respect you must have a pretty negative sight on life don't you.. why not meet and greet everyone with a smile instead of a judging eye?.. I hope some people get the point with this story, there are 2 kinds of teachers in the world.. the ones that tells the new class at the begining of each semester that they have an A and it's up to themselves to keep those A's, and there's the ones that tell their pupils that they all have F's and will have to work hard to get anywhere.. I'm sure most people liked the positive ones best, but maybe some on this board liked starting school and everything else in life in an "upslope" so to speak?

Maybe they enjoy the song for the Guitar parts?

Where's all the legendary stuff Axl has put out since THEY left GNR?

Opinions are a 2 way street , If anyone ( aka Tommy ) wants to say that , then deal with the fact that some fans have a voice to say stuff too.

Basically Tommy has the right to say whatever the hell he pleases as he worked in the band for the amount of time he has , but fans are going to say stuff too.

That depends on what they represent, but I guess the name of the band gives the musicians those shoes to fill. :P
There's just on member that stood out on his own (imo) which I gotten into regardles if he plays with Axl or not and that is Buckethead

What has Chris to prove now, or is it just a baseplayer thing? :hihi:
the kind of casual fans who says "it's not the same without slash" ..
Of course it's not the same, sometimes it seems it's like "he don't have curly long hair!!! " type of discussions here :P

Been in a band 10 years and has done what exactly?

Sure Kujo I use to rip NIN and even though Im a fan now, They are nowhere near GNR's class. Never will be.

How many people became fans of this band because of the new members?  If u took a poll of GNR fans, Im sure most became fans during the Appetite or Illusion eras Or became fans once they heard Live Era for the younger generation or even Greatest Hits.

I bet a tiny percentage can honestly and I stress the word HONESTLY say that they became a fan due to any of the new members. Cause I guarantee most of us already were long before.

U guys irritate me.  Everyone said B uckethead was the greatest fuckin thing to ever pick up a guitar till he was no longer in GNR and now another guy joins and all of a sudden he is the greatest whatever.

Im sorry I have high standards, but for me, u have to do more than play other guys material to impress me and earn my respect.

Once CD comes out, Im sure they will, but until then, I don't just bestow greatness on them for something they did decades ago or based on how they play old songs.

Helped re build it? Look man I honestly prefer AFD line up to this one 10x over but get over it. The guys in this band have worked their asses off to get classic songs down , and their own to them , make new material and be in GUNS N FUCKING ROSES. Why are you on this board if you basically hate the new band?

I don't hate the new band.

I am one of the biggest Axl Rose  fans on the planet.

HOWEVER:

I don't just accept stuff because I am told or suppose to feel a certain way. I am a huge GNR fan regardless of what anyone thinks.  It is just that I want someone to earn my respect and I don't just give someone my respect cause they are in a band with  my hero.

Once CD comes out and they show what they are capable of coming up with, I will then make judgements and give them all the credit in the world if they deserve it.  What next? Bumble quits and everyone on here starts shitting on him and Axl gets some other guy and all of u automatically make him out like he is Jesus before u ever hear an original note?

Playing Cover songs dont impress me. Hell I've heard tribute bands play the old material better.  Its what u contribute to GNR's legacy and until u contribute to that legacy, Im not gonna automatically grant u legendary status simply cause u are in a band with a legend.  That has to be earned and Tommy may have earned status with "The Replacements" But the other guys havent. So they have to prove it to me with original stuff on a released album.

What have the other guys done to deserve such accolades?

Richard Session musician for N'Sync
Robin Touring guitarist for NIN *Still kind of a cover cause he is playing parts someone else wrote
Pittman *no idea what he does, I know he is responsible for the video game sounding fart noises that hurt Better
Whoever the drummer is: Dont have a clue. wouldn't know him if he walked in my house with a name tag on.
Bumblefoot "I wish the guy was the sole lead guitar player as he really stays true to the material and I actually think he has potential to be great in this band. Still haven't heard anything original but he is one member I like just from his attitude and the way he plays.

Till CD Comes out, I refuse to bow down and act like they are the greatest people to ever pick up an instrument.

Ive seen them on YouTube but thats not the point. I dont want to see a concert of old GNR songs played by new guys. Once CD comes out, Ill be the first one to buy a ticket.

Says the Bon Jovi fan?

How bout u check the numbers dude.  Every seat, every show sold out on the Lost Highway tour.  Jon doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. They definitely have high standards which is why they are still amazing and doing great 23 years later.

My fault for not having the opportunity.

Sure BJ went a little country but they've always had a country kind of style to them as far back as Wanted Dead Or Alive, Stick To Your Guns, Ride Cowboy Ride and Jon's Blaze of Glory solo album.  They are also one of the best acoustic bands to ever grace a stage also, so it made some sense.

No, you're getting a new one based on the shit you post about people who are currently in the band we (well most of us anyway) are fans of.

Since this board and site is aimed at fans of the current band, your opinions don't really seem like they have a place here.

If you have that kind of hostility against the current GN'R, maybe there's some other site where they'd treat you like a hero for posting all that shit.

 so true ! i've felt like biting my fingers all along. i could quote stuff here and there and post replies.. But  it could only contribute to add mess up here.
Just a few things :
1- It is possible to become a Gn'R fan because of the new band.  I loved the band when Illusions were released but I wasn't a 'real fan' - didn't spend ages looking for updates, didn't attend a single show... i became a 'real' fan only 2 years ago, when I decided to listen to the old stuff and attended a couple of shows and did some other stuff 'real' fans are supposed to do  ;D. I knew I wouldn't  see Slash but I didn't care. Ron and the others truly rocked my night, both times. Doubters could see that this line up is a solid one, a rock.
2- I don't see why Tommy isn't entitled to say 'get on board or fuck off'. He's in the band and  he does a great job - I guess it would be more obvious if some people had seen the band between 2001 and 2007  ::)  Tommy has a right to say whatever he wants, no matter if  people who don't want to face reality get hurt. He's been in the band for years now. Album or not, he can say whatever the fuck he wants to say.
3. Some youtube videos are great but most aren't. You can't judge a band from that. Watching some chaotic footage by a fan who was lost in a crowd can't replace the fever and, yes, the  fervor you feel when  you actually attend a performance by a great band... meaning you can't judge Gn'R but you can't judge cover bands either (assuming they can be  great ... D,  that's what I understood from one of your previous posts)...

Oh, and I don't have much respect for Gn'R cover bands and any band/singer who spend their time trying to sound like a carbon copy of another one and make money out of it. For some reason, I prefer people who try to make their own thing.  : ok:

By saying Tribute bands play it better means they play it true to the original.

I take it most people on this forum are lyrical, vocal listeners and not so much musical listeners.

That is kind of what I gather.

See, to me, the guitar solos are as good if not better than the ly rics and vocal melodies.  The solos take the song to higher places and compliment the vocals in a way that just explode into your head.

the old songs have classic,Iconic guitar solos. playing the solos different to me would be no different than Scott getting on stage and singing different lyrics and vocal melodies to GNR songs.

Im just shooting straight here and being honest.

I love the new bands work but I cringe when I hear them play the old stuff.  That is me being honest.  I like all the leaks a lot and think they have amazing potential but I've heard my fav all time solos butchered enough for one lifetime.

Should I get flamed for having that unbiased opinion?  No

Title: Re: What the hell?

So you don't like it when Slash changes the solo live, either?

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: Voodoochild on January 28, 2008, 02:23:16 PM
That's why they are not just a cover band. I'm a guitar player and I'm 100% more pleased to listen to their version of the guitar work rather than just playing note for note. And you may know well, they could anytime.

If even Slash changes his solos, why couldn't the new band?

Also, please enlighten me how an opinion like yours, who claims to be a musician and to think another musicians should just cover the old songs without putting their own style, is unbiased.

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: jarmo on January 28, 2008, 02:26:12 PM
I guess you haven't heard a good live performance of the AFD songs since 1989 then..... Matt replaced Steven and Gilby replaced Izzy.

In addition to the line-up changes, Slash changed his solos too. Either for fun or because he made mistakes.

Axl didn't sing the songs exactly like in the studio. For example, he'd add words here and there. Mr. Brownstone, You Could Be Mine etc.

You cringe when GN'R plays GN'R songs?

And you call yourself a fan...

What exactly are you a fan of? Axl?

Sounds more like you wish Axl wouldn't play songs the band likes to play for their fans.

You have some weird opinions or you're just posting shit to get a reaction. First Tommy shouldn't have the right to say anything, then a band is like a marriage where you're not allowed to do anything outside it and now you claim you cringe when GN'R plays GN'R songs.

You haven't seen the band live, so obviously for you Youtube is the place how to experience a live show.

You sound like a troll coming to a GN'R site to get attention.

Unbiased my ass. You obviously have something against the current band.

So you don't like it when Slash changes the solo live, either?

Ive always hated the new Patience solo and the new KOHD solo he does

So yeah

I hate it when Slash fucks up also

cause I get in such a mood and vibe listening and when the solo kicks in, that elevates me even higher, So yeah, When Slash fucks it up and hits a bad note or does something sloppy, it kind of kills the vibe for me also.

I watched VR in Atlanta a few years back and he totally raped the YGNR solo and I was the first to say how much I hated it.

U cant change classic Iconic legendary solos. u just can't.  It would be like changing the drum beat to Paradise City or the opening riff to WTTJ.

On songs where the solos are just whatever, fine, add a little here and there but u should take the solo and make it better or else you should play it as it is.

no solo except maybe Buckethead's "Nightrain" to me is better.

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: Voodoochild on January 28, 2008, 02:46:53 PM
And you say you're unbiased...

Of course they can change. They can do whatever the fuck they want. And it's not like all the solos are complete different, most have the same pattern and licks and just a change here and there. Any regular fan would recognize them as being part of the songs. Any casual fan wouldn't notice much.

IMO, Robin makes SCOM solo better than Slash. So you're saying just because YOU think it's worse, they shouldn't do in that way? Because of what you think?

If I would replace some musician in a band, Id rather put my own style and feel in the previous work. Maybe you should put yourself in that position. They are NOT a cover band. Yes, they played the old band's songs, but they tried to revamp it to sound genuine. If Axl wanted to just cover the old band, he would call one of the hundreds of Slash covers out there.

Maybe you should just give up. They will never please you, they will never do what you want them to do. Either you give up on the band or give up and give them a chance.

It is all taken way too seriously, isn't it?  I love GnR.   I found this place because it was the one that was "not about the new" and "not about the old", but a combination of everything.  That's what it's about, I think.  I love Slash - have, for years - and I will defend the man.  However, I'm not going to get my shorts in a twist over all of it.   Because when you do, it starts going overboard.  It does.  It goes beyond sanity, when you do that.  Goes beyond reasoning.   And so here we all are...and for what?  Someone's post gets deleted.  Someone gets banned.  All because you can't "see the light", according to some people.

Anyhow, This thread was great, I actually reached "Troll" Status which kind of jolted me out of my ignorance and made me realize I needed to shut up cause I sure as hell don't want to be a troll.

This thread touches into some serious things a lot of readers of this site may have noticed in the last years tho.
There seems to be a conflict of intrest between this site's influence on GunsN'Roses comercial intrest and being a broad enclyopedia/library/wikipedia of GunsN'Roses history. Or am I completely offroad now :hihi:

If that is a fact it IS a very sad situation of change for those who's here for the latter.

You really hit the nail on the head with this post D. These guys don't give a shit about Gn'Rs music. They do it for one reason only, the big paycheck. ::)

Big Check Little Work.

U get a paycheck for the last 8 years, and its fun when u do work cause u are recording and touring, when u aren't touring and recording, u are doing stuff on the side but still receiving money from GNR.

Who the fuck wouldn't want a job like that?  Where when u are working u are touring with Axl, but when u arent u are free and still getting paid to do your own thing?

I think some of u need to ask yourselves why u took that as some negative slight against the band?

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: Kujo on February 09, 2008, 01:52:01 PM
Well, assclown, since everyother comment you have made has been negative about the "new" band, it was a safe guess.

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: D on February 09, 2008, 01:54:17 PM
That isn't true at all.

Ive made plenty of posts/threads supporting the new band.

Everyone automatically assumes that any kind of criticism is bashing someone.

U can't be a fan of a band or even a sports team without criticizing here and there?

Thats like if your fav sports team makes a bad trade or is on a losing streak, u are no longer a fan if u criticize the coach or a player?

that is completely untrue.

I support this band big time, but if I don't agree with something, I don't care to speak out about it.

doesn't make me any less of a fan.

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: D on February 09, 2008, 03:03:15 PM
And?

Not to beat the dead horse but what have they done in GNR so far?

Once they release the album and start doing interviews etc etc, They will earn my respect but I don't just accept everyone who plays with Axl as the greatest musician to ever grace the universe just because.

If that makes me less of a fan,so be it.

It is not a slight on the guys in the band at all. It wouldn't matter who comes and goes, I have to see what they can contribute to the legacy of GNR. a few leaked demos and tours of AFD doesn't do it yet.

They have loads of talent and Im sure the album will be amazing, I, however, want to hear the album first.

What's wrong with that?

Same way with one of my sports teams.

Just cause they draft or sign so and so, I don't get excited or whatever till they prove they live up to the hype.

Look at Reggie Bush in the NFL. People had him as the greatest thing to ever grace a football field before he took one snap.

After 2 years, he hasn't lived up to the hype and is a bust.

We live in a show me society and once Im shown, Ill be a bigger fanboy than anyone here.

Title: Re: What the hell?

D has said a lot of stupid shit but don't hold him responsible for any of it.

He loves to attack GN'R for stupid shit while claiming he's a big fan.

He doesn't respect GN'R members who have stuck with Axl for years and toured the world. No, there's no reason for him to respect anybody for that.

The idea of loyalty and sticking to what you believe in doesn't get any respect from D.

Comparing GN'R members to a football player? Well in this case, the guys have accomplished stuff. Both in GN'R and outside of GN'R.

They're not rookies.....

How is that not respecting members?

What cause I want their creation to see the light of day?

I have stuck up for these members alot and said how unfair it is that they have to be constantly criticized and disrespected cause their contributions havent been heard.

I love the leaks but I want to hear them in album form.

Face it

These guys have a mountain to climb being in Guns N Roses.

Sometimes it seems some of u on here have forgotten exactly how big of a phenomenon Guns N Roses are/were. They have the biggest average of albums sold in the US probably by far if u take the 3 biggest of any bands career.

These new guys arent joining and walking in to some run of the mill good band. They are in a LEGENDARY, top 10 all time greatest band to ever grace a stage. Hell maybe top 5.

U have to prove u belong by contributing to the legacy already established.

What is wrong with saying that?

Is it not true?

Wait.

You say you defend them from people who disrespect the band members because the album isn't out yet?

But you yourself said they don't deserve any respect because they haven't put out music.

Are you saying you defend GN'R from yourself?  ???

Considering he was suppose to be hybrid of Gayle Sayers and Barry Sanders and a faster Ladanian Tomlinson but is more like a poor man's Brian Westbrook, Id say yes he is a bust.

I've defended the new members against the media etc who have bashed them in the past. I myself though think its only fair that u contribute to a band's success before u are bestowed this legendary status which is hollow cause playing with Axl doesn't make u a legend. what u contribute to the band does.

i don't think a troll is someone who has a different opinion then me. and i actually think most people share my view of a troll

To me a troll is someone who constantly stick around, stirring shit up and thinks that they are "the voice of reason" they most of the time also think that whatever they believe is the truth and people should think like them, trolls are most of the time also in the minority and don't get that their "voice of reason" don't sound reasonable to the majority..

most of these trolls are reasonable enough to leave after a while to find a bettersuiting place..

so with that said here's a favourite of D's:

get on board or bon jovi can suck my dick    ;D

Yes I am fucking serious. And IMO The Prodigy are more intense live than GnR will ever be and ever was. OMG! Blasfemi!
And I am the one hanging around nutsacs? :P

Yeah, I loved rock. Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, GunsN'Roses but I have long gotten bored of the oldschool rock-music. It's of little intrest, Hang me. :hihi:
I still apreciate a good rock-song, but it's less intresting than new stuff.

I hate current new metal tho just so that is said.

With GunsN'Roses, I musically lost intrest after TSI...singer still rocked tho and the voice alone is intresting enough.
I got into GunsN'Roses again after hearing Oh My God and seing the new elements which Axl choosed to compliment his voice and songwriting.

And what was new apart from the same old rock? Buckethead and Chris and the "new" music. Thats why I am here. Even tho am "old fan".
That is ridiculous.
It's just an opinion and a matter of taste, made ur jaw drop now? You'll get over it :-*

Ive got the band name right more than I flubbed it.

A troll is someone who follows u in every thread and tries to argue *see Gypsy following me into NFL threads, NHL threads etc etc*

I see both sides of everything, but I want people to be fair.

If I am an idiot and a troll for criticizing the new band, Norway should be held accountable for posting on a GNR board that the old band are boring and inferior to "Prodigy" are u serious? That to me isn't an opinion that should be respected. that is freakin ricockulous!

Ive said some pretty dumb and crazy shit in my lifetime but i'd never come on a GNR board and say a band like "Prodigy" are better than one of the greatest bands to ever grace the planet.

So, how can Kujo defend norway and talk shit about me for criticizing the new band?  Old band is proven and nothing can ever be taken away from them.

Prodigy? are u serious? that is the craziest shit I've ever heard.

I guess next, people are gonna say Sugar Ray are better than the Chili Peppers.

You just dont get it. If you would just say "I havent seen the current line up, so I dont have an opinion." there wouldnt be a problem. Instead you tell everyone that has seen this band perform, that we are wrong for "worshipping" them. As long as you want to argue opinions as if they are facts, there will be people here to give you shit for it.

When the fuck did I ever say anything about live performance?

DUDE, u have to write your own songs and PROVE that u are capable of carrying on the GNR legacy

I COULD GIVE A FUCK HOW WELL SOMEONE PLAYS A GODDAMN COVER SONG

A GNR Tribute band are going to be in Chattanooga Feb 16th

Id rather jack off with razorblade covered gloves than watch that shit.

U dont earn your merit by playing someone elses material.

U earn your  merit by writing great stand the test of time memorable riffs and solos.

Until CD comes out, we don't know that they can.

That is my whole point.

U can't annoint someone just cause they play with Axl. they have to prove they can do it

without an album, they get an incomplete cause no one knows yet if they will write songs that will be heard decades from now and essentially that is what it comes down to.

They have giant shoes to fill and going out on tour and playing classic GNR songs doesn't fill those shoes yet. We have to get an album.

I think they can fill the shoes but I am a wait and see kind of person.

Someone explain this logic:

How can a band that has yet to release a single song be better than a band who has some of the all time greatest most legendary songs in Rock N Roll History?

Its all opinion. Why do you even care that a bunch of people like this band better than the old? Are you that insecure in your own beliefs?

Title: Re: What the hell?
Post by: D on February 10, 2008, 04:49:43 PM
No but it just drives me crazy when people totally disrespect the old band.

Its like people forget who wrote those amazing guitar parts/solos the new band is playing.

When someone just totally shits on Slash and the old members it upsets me. So I feel a need to defend the old band which in turn makes it seem like I hate the new band but I don't.

I just hold the original band very close and will defend the fuck out of them.

I'd do the exact same if someone dissed Axl. I was all over Scott's ass when he talked dumbshit about Axl.

It would be like Slash etc hiring a new singer and people saying that guy was better than Axl cause he can sing higher or he has a more "Technical" voice. Then using Youtube videos of the guy singing something perfectly in key of GNR's and saying "See, he sings better than Axl"  Its just dumb to say someone plays something better than a guy who wrote it.

I have met tons of guitar players who can play every GNR,Metallica, Pantera whatever song note for note but can't write an original piece of music to save their lives. It only matters what u create. that is how u are judged.

the old band = history.

the current lineup = now.

disrespecting the current lineup is far more idiotic when that is the band we are here to support.

A troll is someone who follows u in every thread and tries to argue *see Gypsy following me into NFL threads, NHL threads etc etc*

No. She argues with you because you say a lot of things that make no sense to many of us.

Quote
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response.

Which is exactly what you do.

I see both sides of everything, but I want people to be fair.

You do?

I thought you only saw your side and attacked the band.

You know, the band you have no respect for even though you're a fan of.

If I am an idiot and a troll for criticizing the new band, Norway should be held accountable for posting on a GNR board that the old band are boring and inferior to "Prodigy" are u serious?

That's his opinion.

And since this isn't "the good ol' times" board, it's not really a problem...

I know many people disagree with him though.

Are you gonna explain how you are defending the band against media attacks while you're stabbing the band in the back yourself?

Its not stabbing the band in the back. Its educating fans about GNR's history and asking they respect the entire history of GNR and not feeling like they have to shit on the old members to make Axl happy. Hell Axl even gives nothing but respect to the old guys, So why do fans feel compelled to trash them to make the new band look better?

It makes no sense how u can hate the old band who are legendary and wrote some of the most amazing songs ever and Love a band who hasn't released an album.

So what are people basing their love on? the way the new members play the old songs?

To me, that just doesn't make much sense.

You're educating them? Would this be the only class in the world where the teacher wears a helmet and shows up on the shortbus but not the students? . . . . . . Maybe they are basing their opinion on the 10 or so songs we have heard plus the way the band works together live. Just because you choose not to, doesnt make them wrong.

you come to a board only to defend something thats been gone for many years and to belittle those who support the band.    I think you are the one who can't be taken seriously, especially considering you called yourself a troll just a few pages back and admitted you were being an assclown.

In this sense, Slash has still to prove he can have a success on his own without a fancy singer...like Buckethead! :hihi:
Take that! :P

But I like Slash's playing, love it.
Norway should be held accountable for posting on a GNR board that the old band are boring and inferior to "Prodigy" are u serious?
I didn't really say they are inferior to the prodigy. I just don't find oldschool rock very intresting anymore.

Old GunsN'Roses is to me and a lot of people as relevant as Elvis, The Animals, Jimi Hendrix etc...and they are more intrested in new music.
That doesn't discredit the bands. Love Hurts, Hound Dog, ScoM etc will still be untouchable.

And thats a fact you need to aknowledge wether you agree or not, that a lot of fans aren't that much fan or intrested in the old band.
IE, the new band got nothing to prove here.

I for one like to see Axl work with something new and diferent that sounds great at the same time. Others want the 90's all over again.

Yeah, as long as they got their own thing going and stands out on their own with their own artistic expression there is no competition.
Just a matter of taste.

I knew when I said that, the trolls would jump at my throat cause that rips away the very foundation they got to whine about the new musicians. :hihi:

Yes, when Prince does stupid shit, like suing his fansf or using his likeness etc on websites. Sure we bash his ass cause that is dumb. Doesnt make us less of a fan.

Prince is a bad example cause he plays every instrument himself BUT, if Prince started a brand new band tomorrow and they hadn't released an album and fans started screaming that band was greater than The Revolution and The New Power Generation combined, yeah, Id say the same thing.

When did I ever say the new band sucked? I havent said that. I simply said they should release an album before people go crazy putting them above the original. A statement I think is very fair.

Once again, Besides flubbing the band Tommy was in, no one can put out anything I've stated that is inaccurate.

Face it guys, the new guitar players combined have wrote as many hit singles as Jarmo.

But yet people are ready to say they are greater than the old band?

That is my point.

I like the guys in the new band but they won't be considered by me legends, till CD comes out and they warrant that title.

Its like when Metallica did that MTV Icon thing. Their new bass player had no business being recognized as anything resembling an ICON considering he hadn't contributed anything. It was ridiculous.

maybe some of us simply prefer them based on things like their style, past things they've done, chemistry in the band, work done on the new songs, stage presence, etc, etc.

its all a matter of taste.   and its an opinion a lot of us have and there is no reason to come to a site meant to support these guys just to whine for the old band.

Title: Re: What the hell?

Well, I got it: we can only like the new band once they release the album. Before that, the new songs and the live performances (which include the new songs) never really existed. ::)

That's funny. I don't listen to AFD or UYI anymore because it's been a long time already and I rather listen to the new songs everyday. So, I prefer the new line-up even though I'm a fan since 1989.

Norway is biased because likes Prodigy more than the old band now? I don't think he can get more unbiased than that. :P

Norway is biased because likes Prodigy more than the old band now? I don't think he can get more unbiased than that. :P
They have a lot in common, both bands do their thing and expands their territory and they both have fans with split intrest.
It goes likes this:

Liam has fans that mean he should not try to be punkrock and whatever but go back and "do something old thats been done to death"
Axl has fans that mean he should not try be electronic and whatever but go back and "do something old thats been done to death"

:hihi:
Face it guys, the new guitar players combined have wrote as many hit singles as Jarmo.
And who the fuck cares? This is how we judge musicians now?

It may be a suprise to you but a lot do not wan't the band to sound like oldgnr. (tho the paradox is oldgnr was all over the place for it's time)
Maybe a lot of new fans and soon to be fans will like bands like NIN, Rammstein, Prodigy and hate classic rock and oldnr?

And I'm just pointing out that fact if you think someone got anything to prove to fans of classic rock. This is now, not the 90's...

Nin...They did their own thing and didn't ride the classic rock wave. Buckethead do his own thing.
AC/DC, VR, Judas Priest, Vince Neil etc will deliver quality rock, but they will likely not take us into new musical territory...unlike other artists...

I can be negative too and say wtf have Duff, Steven, Izzy etc done without a good singer? Then I can paralell them with NiN.
A lot can say "Slash and Duff where long haired stereotypes with that bad boy image riding the 80's wave" just the same way you seem to discredit the new band.

Not sure if it's a American thing, but it's not possible too see beyond listpop, hitsingles and comersial succes?

I credit musicians for doing their own thing, being creative and if they expand their musical horizons too then that is something really intresting.
Robin did his own thing, in image and sound. I respect that.

I hate Linkin Park musicaly,
but I respect them a lot more than a lot of 80's band that just got succes because of their hair, doing those silly poses and just doing whatever the flavor of the month was. How oldschool ::)

For me it's a good chance I will be disapointed with CD cause "it's the same old rock with perfect vocals and some synths added" but I hope not. :peace:
Maybe not disapointed, but it not living up to the expectations I got after hearing omg etc...

I wan't something new with the old to put it that way :P
But yet people are ready to say they are greater than the old band?
Then thats their thing, why can't you accept that?

Liam (from prodigy)...I view him as a better musical composer than Duff. And I find his music more intresting.
Buckethead...A lot like him better than Slash and find his music more intresting.

I know some had more pop- succes (at least succes in the shaddows of others) than others but it's just opinions and taste D :hihi:
And since this isn't "the good ol' times" board, it's not really a problem...
Great, then we're not some weird, fanatic cult afterall :hihi:
