Use Your Illusion

WWW
« on: July 01, 2011, 05:12:39 PM »

I have been doing some thinking over the past few weeks.  The GNR Bootleg scene has become stale.  There is a lack of community, a lack of releases and a lack of new material.  This led me to thinking about what I had in terms of unreleased GNR bootlegs.

Some of you that know me, will know that in the past I have released all of my audio recordings for free, as soon as I had recorded them.  That to me was always the way I wanted things to be - to share a recording of a gig that people may of experienced or didnt have the opportunity but was free to the fans and GNR community.

In 2010 I decided to try and tape my first GNR gig - little did I know it would become fairly infamous due to the issues between Guns and the promoter(s).  However, I decided that for once I would keep this for trade only - not to hoard but to trade.  I got a few offers that sounded good and gave me an insight into the amount of GNR DVD's that were not 'out' in the community.  Personal things took over - a first baby, a new job etc and I havent had the time to seek trades and this has led me to where I am now......

Any other band community is exactly that - a community.  A place where people release shows to the fans for their enjoyment.  Look at the U2 community - numerous shows, with numerous multi cams.  GNR are just not like that - it is borne with fighting and cliques.  Yes it was difficult to film Reading, yes it was expensive and yes at times I probably didnt fully watch the show - but it is what it is.  At times it is shaky - the price you pay for filming standing up, with 70,000 people pushing you around.  But it is a video of the show.  I hope you enjoy it and I hope it is that start of a few new shows that this COMMUNITY can share.

thank you very much for this opportunity to relive a great day.
out of interest, when you mention bootlegs that are not yet 'out' i don't suppose you are aware of a video of wembley 92 existing? the one show i've wanted to see more than any other.

GnRScouse - From my memory some footage of the show exists - i think it may be the encore section (I might be wrong) - I have not seen any evidence to suggest the full show is 'out there' - the audio from the show is soudboard though and good quality!

4/20/1992 Wembley: Freddie Mercury Tribute, offically released
6/13/1992: GN'R headlining show @ Wembley, good audience recording made it on "God Save The Queen" 2CD bootleg back then.
videowise there is a short tv report and "Tie Your Mother Down + We Will Rock You" in Proshot (both with Brian May, see youtube)

as there is an "official" MTV report from the 2 songs with Brian May, the theory is the GN'R camp gave those 2 songs to MTV (for some edited broadcast as a news report) and it leaked from there somehow. there is no other video from that show circulating or known to exist, except the Proshot in the huge GN'R vault collecting dust....

i haven't watched it completely yet, but I ripped the audio of it and made 256 kbps MP3 to listen to it in my portable MP3 player.

I'm impressed about how good the audio quality is. Very good job mate. You got a crystal clear recording.  beer

watched it on my computer a bit ago. personally I thought the audio could have been a tad better but thats just being picky. the video was pretty good for being standing only. wish the end would have went longer to show the sit in and megaphone stuff. Overall I am pleased with it and want to thank you very much for sharing this dvd

unfortunately the battery died but in actual fact you wouldnt have heard anything from the megaphone unless you were in the first 2-3 rows.  Where I was standing you couldn't hear a damn thing!

from what i've checked so far:

filming:
much better than i've thought, nice for a big festival with all those usual moving drunkheads. as a general rule for every filmer for upcoming shows i'd appreciate concentrating on filming steady screenshots and not far away stadium shots as many people do. with a nice steady screenshot you kinda get a generated unofficial Proshot.....and people simply like Proshots  Smiley

the ending with them sitting down was on the screens left/right/middle? yes/no?  because that would have benn great to have on video, even without hearing them. but batteries went out? as a tip: always using batteries being able to film 4h+.

quality:
better than i've thought, cool!! Audio could have been made in LPCM (with seperate audio) though.

authoring:
short and nice BUT....i'd picked different songs or song parts in the menus + would have added Reading Proshot + Ticket Scans and some Reports/pics etc.

Limulus -

I thought about adding the pro shot but there seems to be 3 different versions of this already and wanted the aud recording to 'stand alone'. In relation to the sitting down - the screens did not show this at all and were blank whilst that was going on.  As for the battery - I should of had much more battery life than I did have - there was a fault with the battery - unfortunately, this was also an issue with the Birmingham DVD I taped.  As a rule I would normally have a back up battery but the decision to tape both shows was made at the last minute so didnt have time to recify the problem.

Glad people like the show
