Women; do a man need to be manly? Or do you prefer some sensitive guy who writes poems and often cries openly when watching a touching movie?  A guy who let's another guy steal your drink without interfering?

Does a man still have to be able to carry the bride over the  treshold?

The reason I'm asking is that I just spoke with my sister about the time they were supposed to come for a visit me and my gf with her hubby and then later visit the local pub. Well, it turns out they didn't come, 'cos her hubby was afraid that he'll be beat up there.

I mean, if I'd be afraid of something like that I wouldn't leave the house. After all isn't there a risk for that everytime I leave the house?

On the top of that, her bf made an excuse that he had just forgotten that they had to be somewhere else the last time.

I always thought a man should have that much guts that he won't make up excuses to avoid something, not to mention that he's fears are just biased.

So how is it ladies? Is the reign of most the most desired male held by the skinny and the gutless?

Kind of a strange question, in a way, but I'll answer it from my own perspective.

I prefer a man who is straightforward; confident enough in himself that he's not afraid of being beaten up; able to stick up for himself and his gf/wife/kids whatever without being afraid but also in a civil, intelligent, and mature manner.  In other words, I don't want to be around an asshole, either, who picks fights about things.  I'd also like him to be respectful to me and to others around him and to be sensitive enough to consider my own needs and feelings.  I can do without the tears over a movie and crazy poem writing.  That would turn me off.  Yet I like sensitive in the way where he's, like I said, respectful and considerate of what I (or others) think or want.    So, I guess I think he should buck up and be "a man", but sensitive enough to be a decent person.

Faithfull to themself and to the gender-roles created by nature.

Males are not supposed to look as lionesses and vice versa.
As long as they are loyal to the pagan ideals, or some of them and follow nature I'm happy. peace

PS/
For me the Vanir is the depiction most true to it's original form.

Ok.  Yeah.   A gender role created by nature.  Gender roles are created by humans and a particular society's ideals of how a male or female should act.  Those expectiations could differ from one society to the next.  As far as "nature" goes, not all men are inherently like a "lion".  Some are more like "lionesses", and by that I assume you mean more feminine.

Gender roles are created by humans

Thats our gender-stereotypes, not roles. Wink

Nature's very determined in this sense, and will always win through in the end.

Not really. You're more likely to get jumped at a bar vs. Starbucks. Not everyone is comfortable in that type of environment. Maybe that pub has a reputation for fighting?

I don't think a man has to prove himself by fighting. If he's doing it (fighting) to protect his significant other, family, or country, then that's one thing. But to fight to prove he has a penis in his pants is ridiculous.

Any chick impressed with a guy fighting is a chick I don't want to know.

Fortunately, my wife and I saw the most important things in each other immediately.  Honesty, humor, caring...and wicked good looks.  Smiley

Ok, yeah, I see what you're saying about stereotypes, so tell me your description or explanation of what "gender roles created by nature" are then.

When msaxl got married 19 years ago, her husband couldn't decide if he wanted to be a husband or a partyboy, so I helped him figure it out real quick.  When he came home intoxicated I litterally stood behind the front door with a broom, and beat the holy shit out of him with it each time.  Now let me tell you I am not psycho, or violent, but what I did no was that I was not going to live my life under those terms, he also figured it out fairly quick, have had zero trouble since. A relationship can be molded to fit each others needs, if indeed the relationship was truley meant to be, even if it takes a broom to get your point across.

I had previously typed the above in the relationship thread, this particular thread sort of reminded me of what I had written before, but an example of what I did not expect of him, in turn I was rewarded with the proper results of what was expected.  When my husband asked my father for my hand in marriage, my father told him to always be able to care for her in the manner she is accustomed to, which I in turn did expect the same, I wasn't going to leave my security blanket only to be put out in the cold by some possible loser no doubt.

I think in all reality I expected a loving, caring, hard working, responsible, goal orientated, good father, non-partier(except on occasion)loyal kind of guy.  End result, that is what I was given and I wouldn't change a thing about him, he has fulfilled each and every one of my expectations and as for me, well I find myself to be fortunate ok.

I expect them to be smart, have a job, be attractive, have a heart, etc...

But, it's so difficult to find.

A non vindictive nature.

Interested in what's going on in the world around them.

...And I guess being attractive is fairly preferable.

I guess culture also determines what expectations there is.

Not sure what to expect sometimes. hihi

I get that too sometimes, those 80's-comments, guess blond hair doesn't have that same satanic vibe to it as ravens black. Tongue
