Distortion Pedals

Hey guys, i was wondering what type of distortion pedals were yer favorite.
I just bought a Boss Metal Zone.
It sounds great, though it was pricey, 90 dollars.
I'm interested now in the Ibanez Tube Screamer... Any opinions on that?
I'm kinda new to the pedal world and I'm looking for some good solid sounds for driving riffs.
The Tube Screamer seems like a good clean driving sound. The Metal Zone is a little too fuzzy/dirty at times.

I don't own any, but If I was gonna buy one it'd either be a Keeley Tube Screamer or a Blackstone 2SV3 Overdrive. But theyd both be well over $100, probably even 200...
I'm probably never gonna buy one, but if I was, i'd make sure it was worthwhile.

The Metal Zone from Boss it?s too nu metal oriented and too dirty for my taste.
You should get the Ibanez Tubescreamer or the Marshal GuvN?or.

i used to use the Boss MD-2.. until i got the Boss Me-50
The MD-2 was awesome. Mega Distortion..... could do anything i needed from mild to, well, Mega Distorted sound. and i NEVER used the "extra" dist knob... it got to dark for me... :p
i also borrowed a Marshall Guvn'or once.. that one rocked!

well the Banzai Cold Fusion is apparently the best of the best...
there's like a 4 week waiting period to get one (beacuse it's a boutique pedal) and it costs like 300-400 US...
That's only what I've heard of course. a DS-1 is just fine, but I prefer natural overdrive from a good tube amp to be honest.

i have this pedal also.. i run it through one of the smaller Marshall amps... I dont care for it either.. I was hoping to get a GnR or Metallica, Motley type sound but like they said it sounds very nu Metal, not the classic guitar sound that i like..
If anyone can reccoment a good pedal id go try it out.. coz i cant find one..

Ibanez TS9.
this unit is great when you have some overdrive from your amp and this sucker pushes it more.

How far can you push it before you blow your amp? HOW do amps blow?

No, don't put it in the effects loop...that's after the pre-amp isn't it?
I'm not really sure the what the best thing to do is...just play around til it sounds good...?

I have a Laney amplifier, from which I can get a pretty sweet distorted sound, but I also sometimes use a Zoom multi-effects unit.
I know all you purists probably hate cheap stuff like that lol but it does the job for me. I can get a nice level of distortion out of it... not too weak, but also not just a mess of fuzz.

The original Made in the UK Gov'nor. I only run this into my Bad Cat Mini Cat to get that cranked Marshall sound at low volumes. Otherwise I like the plugging straight into the Marshall 2555.

That's a nice pedal you got there
Did you get it back in the day, or did you get it used?

I traded an old Marshall Shredmaster for it. The Guv'nor gives me more of the JCM800-in-a-box tone I was looking for.

Distortion pedals?
Haven't you lot grown out of them yet?
hehe...
sorry...
I sold all mine (still have a Marshall BluesBreaker but I NEVER use it).
I don't use pedals for drive anymore. I have the JCM to do all that.
However, my mate in the band, other guitarist, plays the same rig as me and tried messing with a Marshall Guvnor... fact: it doesn't sound as good. Put it back in the box.
