The results are obvious, but this is interesting to watch anyway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKKTpRrQdvY&mode=related

He's doing very good this year, but where is it coming from?

ie How much of this improvement is technique, training, physical, oxygen breaks, or electronic processing?

I think somehow all five of these elements are being employed.  If you hear the 2006 band live, his mic is mixed in at a very low level - obvious by itself, let alone in comparison to Baz from an hour earlier - big difference.  It also has something about it that just feels very 'equalized'.  I don't think you can watch a 2006 show and deny that it's being 'tinkered' with.

Whatever it is, it's working!    -=ZIG

Axl sounded like shit in 2001-2002.

It's hard to believe that only a year ago we were having arguments about how his "new voice" from the 01-02 shows was either good or bad.

Whatever it is, I think it's vocal improvement. And there's no doubt he's at his best right now.

"My Michelle" from that show is the worst I've ever heard Axl sing.

But we treasured that bootleg along with the Pittsburgh bootleg for three years because they were soundboard quality. I'll probably never listen to them again.

Equalized or not, it's his voice that has drastically improved since 2002. It's so much more powerful now.

It's weird listening to "November Rain" from Rock in Rio III. Axl's voice is nasally and weak to the point where you'd think he hadn't sang at all in several years.

WHOAMIGOD I made that video  Shocked

I believe that someone posted (on youtube) about how he's using effects on his voice. That makes sense, but when you think about it, why didnt he use the effects during the Rio clip? Plus, I'm sure the echo is because it's an outdoor concert.

Oh, and that clip is kinda shitty...I made it in like 5 minutes before I had to go to my final drivers ed  hihi

it has nothing to do with effects. Effect quality may have changed over the years. But if u cant sing u cant sing. and has nothing to do with the tone.

In 92 he used a lot of reverb and some chorus. same goes for today and same goes for guitars. Effects have not changed. there still the same basically as whats been around sicne the 80's. Just quality changes and better mixes.

BH blew slash away on Nightrain, BBFs is good but slash was better.
So it goes BH, Slash BBF

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

In 01, it seems like Axl was trying to sing entirely in head voice and therefore it's a lot cleaner and sounds more 'compressed' I guess you would say.

I am not sold on BBF's contributions thus far. His shred in KOHD is abysmally out of place, Nightrain is sloppy, and some of  Bucket's cool TWAT effects are skipped altogether.

He is a damn nice guy though. I am comfortable with him keeping the porchlight on for the return of Bucket.

Sebastian bach recommended his voice instructor to axl back before the tour started.

baz's voice instructor also works with christina aguilera...

so in a way, another reason Axl keeps baz around.. baz helped him get his voice back...
