I have no sympathy.   This is what happens when people's greed is stronger than their intelligence.

MY former mother-in-law got taken in by one of these.  I laugh.   Apparently she had a relative who died on the Concorde crash in France.  He was buried in South Africa where he happened to own a diamond mine.  Nice!!   She stood to inherit millions of dollars.   She was clever though, she got legal advice.   They recommended a good lawyer for her to work with.

I figure she's out a good $25-$35k

I thought everyone was familiar with these scams, they've been around for awhile.

My parents got something similar last year.

Apparently, they had won a couple of million dollars playing the Spanish Lottery.

They've never been to Spain, they don't know anyone in Spain.

Whaaaaaaaaaa?Huh??

For shits n' giggles, they called the guy to see what was up.  He said that for $8,000, he would wire the money first thing in the morning!  rofl

Last year someone called my grandfather in the Las Vegas area, claiming to be ME.  He said that "I" was in Vancouver on a fishing trip and had gotten into trouble with the game warden and was arrested.  He asked if my grandfather could wire "me" $3000 to help out.  Luckily my grandfather asked me why I wouldn't call my parents for such a request (I hardly ever call my grandparents so it was certainly out of the blue).  He claimed he didn't have the money to help me out and "I" hung up.  It was weird.

Could have been scammed a couple of years ago, put  a car for sale on a website, a guy from out of state replied and wanted to by it site unseen except for web photo.  Said he would be sending his attorney to us to make all transactions, and have car shipped.  That never happened, however a couple of weeks later we recieved a envelope in the mail.  He had sent money orders or whatever, he had even sent more than the asking price of the car lol.  They all looked legit, but we called the bank they were drawn from and every one had already been previously issued.  We had even taken them to our personal banker and even he was fooled by them.  All I can say is it's a good thing we did our homework, before signing title over, and whose to say we couldn't have just scammed him, as he sent cash first, with no promise of a return, bold move.  In the end we still tried to keep communications with him, as we wanted to catch him, but he ended up bugging out, obviously he knew we were on to him.

The thing about these scams are that they are the oldest ones in the book. How anybody can be so stupid to fall for these is beyond me. If it sounds too good to be true, it is!!! Always, no exceptions.

Here is the worst part:

"She wiped out her husband?s retirement account, mortgaged the house and took a lien out on the family car. Both were already paid for.

For more than two years, Spears sent tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Everyone she knew, including law enforcement officials, her family and bank officials, told her to stop, that it was all a scam. She persisted."

Unfuckingreal!!!!

Her work as a registered nurse, Spears also teaches CPR and is a reverend who has married many couples. She also communicates with lightning-fast sign language with her hearing-impaired husband.

And.

Janella Spears doesn?t think she?s a sucker or an easy mark.

That's the unreal part. This is not some flunkie. Still..

She's a utter fool who I have no sympathy for. I do feel sorry for the husband though, for both losing that much money and being married to such a loser.

so anyone seen there where someone fuck these scammers over;

Here's one.

http://www.scamorama.com/smurf.html

I remember reading another story, where the guy scammed them back with a story where his uncle got greedy and killed the guy who orginally got the letter, then sent a pic of the body to the con artist and finally when he didn't get the money (he claimed he'd paid the 20k the con artist wanted) sent assasins to johannesburg, which he found out via some ip or something, it was funny as hell.
