Title: Bands you've seen live!
Post by: GitFuckedUp on November 26, 2002, 12:09:54 AM
What bands have you seen live?  If GN'R is on the list, be sure to say if was the "old" or "new" band.  Hope no one has made a topic on this before.

I've been going to shows since I was 13 (I'm 28 now), and have done somewhere around 3 to 5 shows a year (more from 96-2000, when I worked at a venue for awhile).

I have seen almost all the bands mentioned so far, the list is two long especially when I have seen GNR 14 times Aerosmith 11 times, Metallica 4 times, Pink Floyd 11 times......many other bands numerous times......plus ...shit well over 150 other bands. [peace] [beer] [yes]

WOOPS, I used to keep track back in high school and keep like a log of the shows dates etc.......by the time I graduated in 1988 I had seen over 100 shows..between 1985 and 1988. I am kinda bummed that I lost that log somewhere in time I would love to see it again....just to remember but I remember most shows.....there are a few black outs like I had almost forgotten that I went to an AC/DC show 2 yrs ago at the garden ...that was a fun night. [peace] [beer] [yes]

New GN'R (last November - what can I say, dream come true)
Metallica (during Reload tour - Toronto Molson Amphitheater sucks for a concert)
Offspring (during Ixnay... tour, or in other words while they were still great - the most fun I've had at a concert)
Megadeth (during Hero tour - disappointed in the turnout)
+ some other bands you wouldn't know about.

I wanted to see Iron Maiden this summer, but I won't be home then, so that sucks big time (2nd time I'll miss them).  Also, I thought about Metallica too, but for floors I need lots of cash (at least $100 US) just to see 1 band I like of the 5.

The Rolling Stones--In Pontiac, Michigan. They were my first concert, in the winter of '89 during their Steel Wheels tour. I was 16, jumped on a Greyhound bus and travelled through a white-out blizzard for five hours through northern Michigan. It was worth it.  [ok]

three parts to this thread im afraid guys...

firstly what gigs or festivals  have you been  to or are you going to this year... and secondly what gigs have you been to in the past and finally whos the best live act youve seen? okay ill start us off...

this year ive been to the isle of wight festival which featured david bowie, the who, stereophonics and jet ect, ive also been to cardiff millenium stadium to see the rhcp (support came from james brown) and in a couple of weeks im going to the v festival where the strokes, the pixies, badly drawn boy, kings of leon and jet are playing amongst others. thats probably it for this year unless guns play....

in the past ive also seen u2 (webly stadium 1997), fun lovin criminals (bulldog bash 2000 + 2003), jamiroquai (birmingham nec 2001), rhcp, placebo, charlatans, david gray, coldplay (v fest 2001), badly drawn boy, primal scream, the coral, ian brown (v fest 2002), charlatans, robert plant ,ash (isle of wight 2002) reef, feeder, terrivision (bulldog bash 2001) thats just what i can remember off my head some of the dates may be inacurate but some bands ive seen 3 and 4 times and im not even a big fan of some of them!!!!

the best gig i went to was probably the chilis at cardiff. that kicked!!  :rockon

id also like to add that its my mission to see guns live. ive been waiting over a decade to see em and i had tickets once in 2001 i think and they cancelled. >:(

Let me start off my saying I am not much of a concert go-er.  Hence, my rather short list.  These days, I would only see a VR or GnR concert.  Here's hopin' that either or arrive to a stadium / arena / baseball park (wherever, I'd be there!) once again.

Okay, here we go...

Johnny Cash 1988
Guns N Roses 2002
Velvet Revolver 2004

Yeah, like I said, I am not much of a concert go-er :)

I havn't been to any concerts this year so far, because ive been working fulltime at two different jobs and just havn't found time. However I am going to see Prince on the 28th at the ACC in Toronto, Evanescence, Seether & Three Days Grace in Toronto as well later this summer, and Rush at the end of August at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto.

Ive seen seen Bon Jovi twice, once at the ACC and once at the Molson Amphitheatre, both in Toronto. Everclear and Nickelback at the Congress Centre in Ottawa, i saw U2 in '92 in Toronto, The Red Hot Chili Peppers & Stone Temple Pilots at Six Flags in '98, and both The Tea Party & Sloan at the Grand Theatre in Kingston.

So far, the Chili Peppers & STP were the best of any concert.. : ok:

Wow, I'm surprised for a bunch of pretty passionate music fans here (ok, so you're mostly GN'R/VR fans), that so many of you have been to so little amount of concerts!

There are so many good bands out there apart from GN'R, do yourself a favour and go find them for yourself!

Anyway, here's my list:

AC/DC
Alanis Morissette
The Angels
Anthrax (seen them twice and it'll be 3 times when I see them again next week!)
Audioslave
Baby Animals
Billy Joel
Blink 182
Jon Bon Jovi (solo)
Bon Jovi (2 times)
The Butterfly Effect (a few times)
Cold Chisel (twice)
Creed
Def FX
Evanescence
Foo Fighters (2 times)
Garbage
Grinspoon
Killing Heidi
Live (2 times)
The Living End
Metallica (3 times)
Nickelback
Nine Inch Nails
Pearl Jam
A Perfect Circle
The Poor
Powderfinger
Queens Of The Stone Age
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
The Screaming Jets (about 50 times, I love this band!)
Sevendust
Shihad
Silverchair
SK4
Slipknot
Soundgarden
The Superjesus
System of A Down
The Tea Party
U2
Velvet Revolver (twice on their recent Aussie tour)

And I've seen countless other smaller no-name bands over the years too.
Like I said, there's so much good music out there if you look for it!

Someone had a post asking about Black Crowes (I think it was ESTRANGED).  In any case, out of my list, they were the biggest disappointment.  I love Chris's voice, so I was really upset after the show.  :-\  I wouldn't see them again...

The bands that I listed were all headliners.  There's no way that I could remember the opening acts.  The only opening act there one the list is GNR (opened for Aerosmith in '88).  :smoking:

Yeah, I've seen them twice here in Australia, once at their own show and another on a festival type show with other bands, and both times they were great.

They've toured Australia countless times over the years, because apparently the band members really like it here, and I think the singer even owns a holiday house here too.

Here?s my list. I?m pretty sure I?m forgetting some:

While I was still living in Spain (You probably won?t know any of these bands):

-   Radio Futura. This was my first ever gig. I couldn?t believe it because they were my favourite band at the time. I absolutely loved them. I still do.
-   Barricada. Forgot how many times?
-   Ilegales
-   El Ultimo De La Fila
-   Luz Casal
-   Siniestro Total
-   Rosendo
-   Joaquin Sabina
-   Mecano
-   Loquillo
-   Seguridad Social
-   Celtas Cortos

Probably more, but that?s what I remember now
Still in Spain:
-   Rolling Stones
-   U2. Ramones were supposed to open for them, but it was raining so hard they had to cancel.  :-\

I will never forgive myself that I had the change to see the original GNR lineup and I didn?t go, didn?t have money? If I knew then what I know today?  :crying:

Since I?ve been living in London and in no order:

-   Iron Maiden
-   Rolling Stones
-   Tool
-   NIN
-   Motley Crue
-   Skid Row (The new lineup)
-   The Cult
-   Def Leppard
-   RHCP
-   Velvet Revolver
-   Adler?s Appetite
-   Mark Lanegan
-   Tommy Stinson
-   The Council  :D
-   Jane?s Addition
-   Lordi.
-   INXS, with that new guy?
-   Bruce Springsteen
-   Guns N?Roses like? ten times?

I desperately need to see AC/DC, and it breaks my heart that I will never be able to see Freddie Mercury on stage  :'(

DAm nice thread but ive been to toooooo many shows to remeber. I could go in my shoe box (vans circa 1980) and look at every stub that i have. Yup i keep them all . Since I am at work it would be hard to remeber. I can tell you the one band that has eluded me for one reason or another.

GUNS N ROSES

They opened for Iron Maiden on the seventh so of a seventh son tour but both shows I went to GnR canceled because of Axels voice. Then they did not come back until a couple of years later and missed the show do to prior commitments. On th e UYIL tour the day of the show i was flying back home and ran into bad wether and got stranded in Denver.

really suxs to be  on trying to See GnR

Oh then when the US tour ( For CD) was annouced I bought tickets for  Sacramento And Reno what happens they get pushed back to 2007.

2006 was a great fucking year for me:

Motley Crue
Roger Waters
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
Guns N' Roses

I also saw the Chili Peppers back before all their music got sensitive.

And many of those 1980s nostalgia shows with 4-5 bands for $15.

I work in radio so a bunch of these shows were hosted by stations i worked for and I got to meet alot of them:

Kix (Steve Whiteman told me a cool story about Axl)

So what was the story?

Title: Re: Bands you've seen live!
Post by: qcmyoungwill on January 29, 2008, 06:01:37 AM
Cool in the fact that it was first hand but beyond that it was nothing special.

Basically... Kix had been signed to some record company, I think it was Atlantic, and they were moved from Baltimore out to LA to promote their 2nd album.  After a show one night in which Kix and GNR were on the bill, Axl and Steve sat around all night getting drunk and talking about the record business.  He said Axl was super cool and really wanted to know everything he could from the experience Whiteman and Kix were having in the business.  Steve said he could tell Axl was hungry to make it and that he was going to succeed because his voice was unbelieveable.  I know they played at least 1 show together...

Haha, I almost got kicked out of the Crocodile Rock in Allentown that night.  The ticket was $10 and a couple of my friends and I decided had nothing else to do.  He's apparently hard core now and he goes "How many of you people saw VH1's Surreal Life" and I responded with "Boo, you suck!".  My continuous heckling got the attention of Ice's "people".

Would love to see Faith No More, KISS and maybe Ozzy (and if Black Sabbath get back together, I'm there 8)). Would've said Oasis too, but that might not be happening any time soon...

Yeah, they've never seen like the most active band onstage, but I think it would still be cool. Especially if I made through the show without being punched in the face.

Oh so it wasn't us after all. Lol I thought they were mad at us ;) They didn't say anything or do anything nice. To be honest I didn't think they were having fun. I remember coldplay the second night. You don't have to be a big fan but they were nice to the crowd. Cracking a lot of jokes, interacting with the audience. They had this "b stage" setup and out of nowhere they were suddenly performing behind us. That was cool :)
