axl4prez - great idea, there should definitely be a seperate thread for this.? ok

you and high_times gave me some valuable thoughts - i appreciate it. i think you're probably right on alexander. i'm gonna go with him if he's available. if someone take him before me, i'm guessing gore will be there and i'll go with him.

i'm in a 10-team league with no keepers (we have some owners reluctant to change). key scoring is like this:

TD passes = 4
yards rushing/receiving = 1 point per10 yards
yards passing = 1 point per 20 yards

we start 1 RB, 2WR, 1TE plus 2 FLEX that can be either of those 3 positions. and 1 QB, 1 K, 1 D/ST.

I really don't think there's a HUGE difference between guys 2-10.  LT is the only one who stands alone in my opinion.  I'd have to go with Jackson, LJ, then probably Addai, Gore.  But the difference between those 4 and the next 5 aren't that great in my opinion.  Steer clear of Ronnie Brown, he really hasn't show much and that offense is far from high powered.  In a 10 team league if you don't get Gates you might as well wait to pick TE as one of your last picks, same with Defense if you don't get Chicago or Baltimore, and obviously kicker.

Sandman, interesting.  I'm always intrigued by other leagues' scoring systems.  Your qbs get 2 less points for tds, but it's probably made up for as yours get a point every 20 yards, and we get a point every 25 yards passing.

On the keeper front, I eased my league into things.  About 3 or 4 years into a traditional 12-team league, we made it so that each team could keep 1 player...the catch?  If you kept a player, you forfeited your 1st round draft pick (which I always randomly generated via some pre-determined state lottery's winning numbers.  So, unless I could fix the Idaho's a.m. pick-4, it was random!

Things went well, but I wanted to step it up a notch.  For Year 8 we went to a dynasty set-up with an auction draft and things have been awesome since.  I've got built-in preventions in the system to prevent one or two teams from dominating so that keeps everybody happy year in and year out.

Now.....2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

qbs, 6pts/td, -2pts/int., 1pt./25 passing yards, 1pt./10 rushing yards
rbs + wrs + tes, 6pts/td, 1pt/10 rushing yards, 1pt/10 receiving yards
kickers 0-34 yd fg's 3 points, 35-39 4points, 40-44 5 points, 45-49 6 points, 50-54 7 points, 55+ 8.  xtra point 1 point.
missed 0-29, -3 points....missed 30-39 -1 point.
defense, points allowed: 0-6 = 12pts, 7-13 = 9pts, 14-20 = 6pts, 21-27 = 3 points, 28+ = 0pts
sacks 2 points, fumble recoveries and interceptions each = 3pts.  tds 6pts. safeties 2 pts.

12 teams. starting lineup: 1qb, either 1rb/3wr, or 2rb/2wr, 1te, 1k, 1def.  No special teams or defensive players.

My squad...whaddaya think?  I know it's tough to rate when ya don't have all the teams, but here goes:
QB:  Romo, Hasselbeck, B. Quinn
RB:  Alexander, A. Peterson (MIN), F. Taylor, L. Jordan, J. Norwood
WR:  T. Holt, An. Johnson, R. Moss, C. Johnson (DET)
TE:  Heap, Witten
K:  Wilkins, Nedney
DEF:  Steelers, Dolphins

I can't wait for the season to start.   beer

Good luck guys, and announce those fantasy teams.  Sandman, with a 10-team league, your squad will obviously be a lot stronger than mine.  Sounds like grabbing good rb's will be key in your scoring format.  Good luck Sandman.  peace

finished the draft a little while ago. here's my squad (with round):

QB: brady (4), cutler (12)
RB: alexander (1), r. brown (2), a. peterson (3), b. jackson (7), m. morris (16)
WR: driver (5), coles (6), clayton [8], d. henderson (10), b. marshall (11), b. jones (13)
TE: cooley (9)
K: graham (14)
D: Eagles (15)

i usually wait until rounds 7-12 to draft a few QBs and was targeting guys like Kitna, Bulger, Rivers, Leinart, and cutler. i was gonna take Housh with that 4th round pick but decided Brady was probably better value there - i had him ranked as the #3 QB.

your team looks solid. you're WRs could be deadly...you may end up starting 3 some weeks. but hopefully peterson turns into a stud. TEs are real strong, and i'm not a romo fan but that's just because i bleed green.   hihi

sounds like a cool league. we have a couple people that are reluctant to change, and we never all get together for the draft (half of us draft online). so auctions are tough and get turned down every year. and then we have about 2 new owners a year due to people dropping out. and it would be tough to find someone to put up money to inherit someone else's keepers.

but i agree....can't wait for the season to start!

good luck to everyone!

I'm playing in three leauges this year. One for money, which is the second time we've done this leauge. One for mostly family only, which is the 7th time i've done this leauge. And One I joined cuz my brother in law needed an extra guy one year for his work leauge and have been playing in it ever since, which is for 4 years. All 3 leauges are standard draft, with the money and work one being 12 players and family 10 players. We do live drafts for 2 of them but do the yahoo automated draft for the family leauge.

So far I've drafted only for the Money Leauge, so I'll just post that team. I'm not too happy with it, but I like my rbs and wr's. My qb's suck. We do one QB position, 2 WR positions, 2 RB positions, 1 RB/WR position, 1 TE Position and one defense and kicker. 6 bench spots. so 15 spots on your roster.

For points we do 6 per touchdown, no matter how it was gotten, 1 pt per 30 yards passing, 1 pt per 10 yards recieving or rushing, -2 for fumbles and interceptions. +2 for 2pt conversion. defense gets +1 for sacks and +2 for turnovers recovered. +2 for safteys and blocked kicks. Points Allowed 0 points (10), Points Allowed 1-6 points (7),Points Allowed 7-13 points (4), Points Allowed 14-20 points (1), Points Allowed 21-27 points (0), Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1),Points Allowed 35+ points (-4) And finally kicking gets Field Goals 0-19 Yards (1), Field Goals 20-29 Yards (2), Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3), Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4), Field Goals 50+ Yards (5), Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-2), Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-1), Point After Attempt Made (1), Point After Attempt Missed (-1).

So heres my draft results for my money leauge. I'm not too happy with some picks but at the time I was like fuck it.? hihi I pay more attention to the work and family leauges because talking shit with those people has become so much fun.? rofl

My Squad: "Brady Is God". Ya im a huge pats fan. I had the number 3 pick in the draft. Truth be told I completly forgot about a Quarterback till round 7 which is why I ended up with such a whole at that position.? hihi

QB: Brett Favre (round 7), Joey Harrington (round 13).
RB: Larry Johnson (round 1), Thomas Jones (round 2), Edgerrin James (Round 3), Lendell White (round 12)
WR: Javon Walker (round 4), Hines Ward (round 5), Darrel Jackson (round 08), Joe Horn (round 10), Ashley Lelie (round 15)
TE: Dallas Clark (round 6), Eric Johnson (Round 14)
Def: Dallas (round 9)
Kicker: Stephen Gostkowski (round 11).

Since you can have three rbs in our leauge I really wanted to get Cadillac Williams as my 3rd running back in 5th or 6th round and get a decent qb in the 3rd but completly spaced on quarterbacks and decided to take edge in the 3rd. And than recievers in 4th, 5th and te in 6th. Than once the 7th round came i was like "OH SHIT!" I need a QB.  hihi

high-times, normally, I'd be weary of Edgerrin James, but 3rd round is amazing with a rb who has such a weak schedule this year.  Great pic in the 3rd.  LJ should be solid...but did you have a shot at Addai after LT and SJax?  I hope that doesn't haunt you.  I'm not crazy about T. Jones with Leon Washington lurking closely behind and the Jets losing Kendall at O-line.
Was Vincent Jackson gone before Darrell Jackson?  Just curious.  Plus, the Pats fan gets Gostkowski, that's always cool to have a guy from your fav team.  That's my Viking, Adrian Peterson.   Now, Dallas Clark and the Cowboys defense should be good.  Demarcus & co. will have fun with the Redskins and Giants.

One more thing, I've been burned before doing the same thing. (waiting on qb)  It has helped me and burned me at different times.  I remember one year I took running backs with the 1st 4 draft picks.  hihi  If I remember correctly, it was the season Lawrence Phillips was looking so good.  I took him in the 4th round.  Ouch!

Now for sandman's squad:
QB: brady (4), cutler (12)
RB: alexander (1), r. brown (2), a. peterson (3), b. jackson (7), m. morris (16)
WR: driver (5), coles (6), clayton [8], d. henderson (10), b. marshall (11), b. jones (13)
TE: cooley (9)
K: graham (14)
D: Eagles (15)

Brandon Marshall will be a steal.  Hopefully, Driver is healthy.  Cooley is solid as I see Campbell relying on him a bunch.  I take it Peyton, Palmer and McNabb had already been grabbed before Brady...any other qbs?  4th round seems like a steal, unless every team waited that long for qbs...even if they did it sounds like a steal.  Hopefully Ronnie Brown can surprise.  The dolphins for some reason have been having him return kicks in the pre-season???  Craziness.

Kick ass in your respective leagues guys.   beer  beer  beer

i hope you're right on marshall - he was one of my sleepers.

brady was the 3rd or 4th QB taken after manning, palmer (and maybe brees).

QBs come off the board a little slow in this league. and we just added the ability to start 3 RBs this year, so it was even slower this year as many tried to get 3 RBs in the first 4 rounds.

mcnabb is a huge injury risk. but if he stays healthy, whoever gets him will get ALOT of value.

My top 5 qbs would be as follows.

1)Peyton Manning--Is a solid performer who's offense is switching back to a primary 3 wide reciever 1 te scheme, so expect Manning to air it out alot this year since their backfield is talented with Addai but very unexperienced.
2)Carson Palmer--The guy is just solid.
3)Drew Brees--Another guy that is just solid. You know he's gonna do good.
4)Mark Bulger--Bulger has been getting better and better every year. Jackson can catch out of the backfield. With the addition of a solid TE and the rams having a solid recieving core I expect big things from Bulger this year. I think brees just slighty edges him out.
5)Tom Brady--I put him at 5 because even with the addition of Moss, Stallworth, and Welker I don't expect to see Brady throwing the ball every down or getting Peyton Manning type numbers. I expect his numbers to have a slight increase due to the talent now around him but I also know the patriots love to run the ball. smoking

Yes High Times, Peyton Manning is #1...but the degree to which he'll be better than any other quarterback can't be overstated.  Personally, I think the biggest reason for huuuuge numbers this year for Manning is the Colts defense.  They had some key losses and I think they'll be giving up points...I'm expecting some very high-scoring games in Indy this year and monster numbers from Manning.

I'd put a healthy McNabb at #2, but with injury concerns present being 9 months out from ACL surgery, I'd put him behind Palmer.  Maybe I'm nuts, but I still like McNabb slightly over Brees.  Last year, McNabb was the fantasy leader at qb before the game he got hurt.
Brady is a safe pick.  He's never hurts and always gives you the numbers.  Bulger's fate will depend on Holt's leg.  Apparently (unfortunately for me) Torry's only at 70% right now.  I think he had his knee scoped in the off-season.  Hopefully he comes through for me.

My top 5 QB's:
#1 (by far) P. Manning
#2 Palmer
#3 McNabb
#4 Brees
#5 Brady

After that it gets very muddy.

these are my rankings:

1. manning
2. palmer (could end up with the best stats)
3. brady (pats running game will decline and he's gonna throw the ball around to everyone)
4. brees (something is telling me to stay away...injury risk, saints decline?)
5. kitna (td machine)
6. bulger (linehan loves to air it out)
7. mcnabb (injury risk. will the birds be able to throw the deep ball? and will they run the ball more?)
8. rivers
9. cutler
10. leinart
11. romo
12. hasselbeck

by the way, i could have had MJD with my 2nd round pick (15th overall) and am regretting i went with brown there.

and i really wanted to get V. Jackson - i think he may have a big year. could end up being a top 15 WR.

Things look too good for Kitna in my book...I'm sensing a wacky injury there.  The Lions aren't known for protecting their qb too well...also, there is a huge void at running back there.  You need someone in the backfield to take the heat off the qb.  Kevin Jones won't be around until week 6 or 7 if that, and Tatum Bell knows how to fumble and get hurt.  In my league, I took Calvin Johnson because we are a dynasty league and I think the potential is huge down the road.

Sandman, the big plus with Brady is the possibility Maroney can't handle the full load of a full year's pounding.  If that's so, expect Tom to get better and better as the year goes on.

MJD or R. Brown...ehh, not a huge disparity between those 2 in a non-keeper league.  If MJD matches those td numbers from last year I'll be surprised.  Trent Green has to be looked at as an improvement for the 'fins and Joey Porter at LB can only help get the Dolphins better field position.  I think Brown will be better this year than last.

Vincent Jackson will be a nice #2 wr.  Every team will gameplan with LT as the focus...Rivers, Gates and the wrs will benefit.

I didn't see Vince Young on that top 12.  He intrigues me...even with the Madden Curse. Smiley  His rushing stats will be gaudy to say the least.  The Titans defense wasn't/isn't so hot, so Vince should pad the stats with some garbage time passing yards and a few tds.  I'd probably rate him at 8 on sandman's rankings...with Kitna dropping down in my book.

If we can get a time set, I'm game!  I'm sure a lot of us have our own solid fantasy leagues.  This will be good to mix it up with fellow Gunners though!

I'm on vacation now, but I should be available by Monday night...hopefully we can get D in there!  Let me know the time.

Thanks,

Tuesday night sounds good too.  I saw that the date is now Tuesday...but can we go just a little earlier than 10:30?  9:30 or 10?  Just curious, it's no big deal.
