Who was your inspiration to play Rock? A band? A single musician? Or just someone who made you want to play Rock music?
I would have to say my mom was my inspiration to play Rock music.
She would always listen to classic rock and I loved it!
I would always try to drum along with whatever was playing.

I've always wanted to play and sing... But until I was 21 I was just too lazy, and had a shitload of excuses so I didn't pick up the Guitar. At 21, I had the whole summer off, and had no excuse not to, so I did.

No ultimate source of inspiration really. If I had to point something out, I'd have to say my brother was a huge influence on me. (if he can do it, so can I.. Smiley )

when i was like 10 i was really into the scorpions so that would be why i picked up the guitar. I never practiced so my dad cut me off so i played for fun a little bit dropped that and then i was 13 so I picked up bass cause of Duff and this year I had to drop the lessons because of my coinciding hockey schedule and this poast summer i bought a microcube amp to fool around with and i just lost all interest in bass so im selling it and now my guitar influence is slash. sadly, I suck.

I was 8 or 9 and Guns just came on the scene in 87.? My Dad bought "Appetite" the day it came out after hearing "Jungle" at like 2 in the morning.? I heard "Sweet Child" that day and knew I wanted to play like Slash.? My Old Man bought me a guitar the Christmas of 87 and I've been playing ever since.? Never could figure out that trick of playing while drunk off whiskey though. rofl

My older brother inspired me. He was a drummer from the time he was eleven years old. He taught me how to play the drums or how to keep a beat, in my case.

Its So Easy

« Reply #27 on: March 15, 2006, 02:57:48 PM »

my uncle bought me a decent japanese strat ripoff, i used it on my fender bullet reverb for a while and then quit...my guitar teacher made me hate playing guitar with all these shitty o susanna songs...

so a few years later i picked up a drum kit, used pearls with 4 sabians for 500 bucks. I got hooked immediately. Started gettin into the misfits and other punk like the stooges, pistols, dolls, ramones etc. Started my first punk band which really was nothing...

Started getting bored with punk so i started gettin into lots of classic rock. Stones, Floyd, Bowie, AC/DC...

This eventually led me to get into GNR heavily, the crue, old aerosmith, really good hard rock....

and then i started the band im currently in, and take it totally seriously and i never started taking it seriously until i hit up the gunners...

so really, GNR inspired me to write and continue drummin...

Hearing led zep IV playing from my brothers room after my dad bought it on a business trip  Grin

Going to a zep tribute concert sitting on the second row and feeling the sound waves from the bass amps go straight through me. Amazing.  Shocked

Slash is the reason I started playing. But I discovered great musicians along the way: Hendrix, Page, May, Finck (can't stop listening to his intro from PC, hard to catch, great!)

Slash was the one who made me wanna pick up a guitar when I was a kid, so I did.
then later, Shannon Hoon made me wanna be a singer, so I started singing.
then I wound up in a band as the drummer, with Chad Smith as my big inspiration.

but basically, Slash made me wanna be a musician. ALL HAIL SLASH!

It's been mainly Guns n' roses. I first played the piano and I even had the Appetite for Destruction Songbook (for Piano). It was kind of fun, but it only really rocks if you play the riffs on a real electric guitar, so I grabbed my sister's acoustic-guitar and that was the beginning... Later I played lot's of the Metallica-stuff too, because it is, in a way, quite easy (except Kirk's solos of course).

First time I heard the Sweet Child O' Mine riff I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I went out and bought a guitar the next day. Didn't even know who the guitarist who wrote that riff was just that it was in my playlist as "Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses"

And they say axl is the heart of the band  Roll Eyes
