Title: Bass Amp
Post by: Genesis on October 25, 2004, 08:02:30 AM
Hi,
I was wondering, when i buy a bass guitar, do i have to buy a separate bass amp or can i plug it into my regular guitar tube amp? Maybe i should buy a small inexpensive one... What say?

You should buy  the small inexpensive.Otherwise you?ll just screw your tube amp with a bass.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure the reason you're not supposed to use a Bass guitar through a normal guitar amp is simply because the speakers can't handle high output at such low frequencies.  Since I can't see that there'd be any electronic reason why a bass guitar would damage the circuitry of the actual amp, I'm pretty sure the speakers are the only problem.

You say you've got a tube amp..is it a head? If so, you can probably buy a bass cab (you might even find you're gutiar sounds better through a bass cab...if you like the way the speakers distort) and use that.  even if it's not, you can probably disconnect the normal speaker and replace it with a bass one.  Of course, you should definitely check this with an experienced amp tech before doing anything.

Hope this helps.
