Due to the overwhelming response of their fans in North America, the "Snakes & Arrows" tour has been RUSH's highest grossing tour ever and the best attended in many years. "Snakes & Arrows" (Anthem/Atlantic Records) was recorded in the fall of 2006 with Grammy Award winner Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, VELVET REVOLVER) with RUSH co-producing. Their first album of original material in nearly five years, "Snakes & Arrows" debuted at #3 on The Billboard 200. In addition, the track "Malignant Narcissism" has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

RUSH drummer Neil Peart has issued the following update:

"Early in March I will have to start preparing for another series of concerts, a 'continuation' of the 'Snakes & Arrows' tour (The Snakes & Arrows 'surge,' I call it).

"We had planned to end the tour in Europe last fall, but apparently more people want to see us, or see us again, so we were asked to do more shows. Some of them will be in places we haven't got to for a while, like New Orleans, Oklahoma City, and Winnipeg, and that is nice, plus we plan to make a few changes to the setlist and presentation to freshen it up a little. Although the world knows by now that I'm not crazy about touring, I sure don't discount the good fortune that we can still do it, personally and professionally ? that we can play better than ever, and that people will come and see us. That's not something I have ever taken for granted. As I have said to friends who might be having their own work difficulties, 'at least if I have to work, I?m glad I can.' And not just any old job, of course ? pretty much the best job there is ? but nonetheless a hard one."

Rush Promises Surprises On Summer Tour

Rush fans can expect some different songs and "surprises" when the Canadian trio hits the road on April 11 -- but guitarist Alex Lifeson says, "I'm gonna keep those a secret until then, I think."

Lifeson tells Billboard.com that since the next segment of Rush's Snakes & Arrows World Tour -- which kicks off in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and runs through July 20 -- visits a number of cities the group hasn't played in quite some time, "we thought we should maybe revisit some older songs we're not playing currently or haven't been in the last little while. So we changed out a few songs in the set. We're gonna keep it loose and maybe kind of bounce back and forth."

Lifeson says the group frequently gets fan requests for specific material. "We see 'Camera Eye' come up quite often, 'Jacob's Ladder' and some of the longer songs like that from our mid-period," he says. Last year's Snakes & Ladders dates featured rarities such as "Circumstances" and "Entre Nous," which Rush has never performed live, and are captured on the upcoming "Snakes & Arrows Live," due April 15.

Lifeson says Rush is also starting to tuck into the video material from the same show last October at Ahoy Rotterdam arena in the Netherlands for a DVD the guitarist says will be out in the late summer or early fall.

"We shot it in HD, and I hear it looks really dramatic," says Lifeson, who supervised the stereo mix for the CD. The group decided to put the CD out first, he says, because "we wanted to kind of bridge the two halves of the tour with a release so there's something there, and then we'll follow up with the live DVD."

Lifeson says that he and bandmates Geddy Lee and Neil Peart are also thinking a bit about Rush's next studio album -- mostly likely with "Snakes & Arrows" co-producer Nick Raskulinecz -- but suspects that will come later rather than sooner.

"I'm guessing that we're probably going to take a little bit of the break at the end of this tour," says Lifeson, who's been updating his Web site with a number of new features he hopes to roll out soon. "I don't see us really doing much in the way of any new material probably until the spring of next year, and then we'll see where we go. We generally prefer to just start on that first day and sit down and start jamming; it's such an exciting moment, and it becomes it's own living thing. We seem to be much more balanced and a lot happier working that way."

Although I've heard the song before, recently I've started listening to 'Tom Sawyer' a lot. Can anybody recommend some 'rock' kind of Rush songs. I don't want the more progressive kind of stuff but some songs that are more closer to hard rock....

Thanks. Will check those out. Peart's drumming is just amazing. I liked Portnoy's style before but his drumming is just incredible.

Rush Announce 2012 Tour Dates
Anne Erickson
|
04.19.2012

Yesterday, Rush released their new single, ?Headlong Flight,? giving fans a taste of what?s to come on the band?s upcoming album, Clockwork Angels, out June 12. Clockwork Angels is Rush?s 20th studio release and their first set of original material in over five years, so there?s plenty of buzz surrounding the release.

Now, the men have announced a cross-country 2012 tour in support of Clockwork Angels. The jaunt kicks off September 7 in Manchester, New Hampshire and will travel to 30-plus cities before closing out December 2 in Houston, Texas.  Tickets go on sale starting April 27 in most cities via Ticketmaster and LiveNation. For information on when tickets go on sale for the date closest to you, visit Rush?s official site, and find a complete list of tour dates, below.

As for ?Headlong Flight,? Rush singer and bass player Geddy Lee says it was a delight to write. ??Headlong Flight? was one of those songs that was a joy to write and record from beginning to end,? he said in an official statement. ?Alex [lifeson] and I had blast jamming in my home studio one day before the 2nd leg of the Time Machine Tour and I did not revisit that jam until a year later.

?Alex and I assembled the song to be an instrumental and its original title was 'Take that lampshade off yo head!' but once we saw the lyrics Neil had written for 'Headlong Flight,' I knew that the spirit of the lyrics matched the instrumental perfectly and it was just a matter of making them fit and writing the melodies.? Are you stoked to see Rush in 2012? Let us know in the comments section, below!

Saw them in concert last night, great show.  Played a lot of the new album, which I don't know much about, but still enjoyed it immensely.  Those guys are such great musicians, I could listen to them play anything.  They did, though, bust out a plenty of the old classics.

Here's the setlist:

Finally, this band is getting nominated for the rock and roll hall of fame. Out of the nominees this year rush and heart get my vote. Any thoughts?

Yeah,  I think this band is vastly over rated as far as their commercial success is concerned.  Rush fans act like they are as big as the Beatles, but the reality is they have been selling the exact same amount of records to the exact same people for the last 30 years.  That is not to say they don't deserve to be in the Hall, they most definitely do, but I wasn't outraged all these years that they didn't get in.

I own a few records by Rush, could never get into it, its the voice.  I won't knock someone for liking them though, there are a lot of legendary rock bands that I am supposed to like that I don't, Rush is one of them.
