Title: Video games
Post by: Timothy on November 02, 2004, 03:12:30 PM
Well seeing a their is a couple of threads about games. I though how about making one big thread for gaming discussion.

So discuss what game you are playing and what upcoming games you are look forward to ,or anything game related.

Right now I'm playing the new

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas- it pretty much the same thing as the other GTA games ,but it's hella fun

ESPN Basketball 2k5 for the Xbox- just as good if not better than the more expensive EA sport title

ESPN Football 2k5  for the Xbox- the same as with the Basketball version

Fable - Fun game but a little to easy and short.

Star Wars Battlefront for the Xbox - good game and it's fun to get to play through all the classic Star Wars battles .

Doom 3 for the PC - cool game but a little slow at the start but picks up .

Looking forward to gettin Halo 2, Narc , and the new Metal Gear Solid game

Video games are slowly turning into shit. The flashy graphics and animations struggle to hide the complete lack of imagination and hunger for money of the game creators. It's kinda like the music buissness. The peak was reached a few years ago with games like C&C Red Alert,Carmageddon,Warcraft 2 or Quake 1. It all went downhill from there.

But of course, there are exceptions, like the GTA games or Championship Manager

No, i agree with MadmanDan.  I used to be an avid gamer when i was younger.  I would get so into a game that I wouldn't stop until every corner and ever secret was explored.  I loved games.  However, nowadays, i don't play the new ones at all.  I still own my NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube.  I had a PS2 and had some fond memories with it but gave it to my bro.

The problem is there's just too damn many games nowadays! I mean a blockbuster game that's been in development for years comes out, and it forgotten in a couple weeks when the next blockbuster comes along.  Its just too much to keep track of.  On top of that, there's too many different consoles out which just complicates things more.  It's just out society's short attention span and need for the flashiest, loudest biggest games that is fueling this trend and sadly, as long as there's a market i don't see the end anytime soon.

Games aren't very fun anymore.  Their just complicated showcases of technology.  I miss the days of simple, fun innovative games but at least i still have my collection for a rainy day.

Surely you see my point. Change is good if it's done for the right reason. But it's not the developers' huge creativity,it's simply the big companies' desire to make a lot of money easy, sure and fast. They don't take risks with new ideas, that might revolutionise the industry, because there is a big chance they won't sell well. Like I said, the exact same thing is happening in the music industry

What I'm playing:

GTA:SA:? Awesome, awesome fun.

Fable:? Like it so far, on my 2nd playthrough, this time as the evilest character you could imagine...having more fun this time than playing as the goody 2 shoes.? Sick, ain't I?

Tales of Symphonia:? Pretty good RPG, if a bit "kiddie", for the Gamecube.

ESPN College Hoops (last years, STILL):  Hey, I gotta play.  My younger brother is in the damn game.  Besides, gotta polish up my skills for 2k5, coming out very soon....

I've seen, but not yet played, Half Life 2.? You think Doom 3 and Halo 2 look good?? I LAUGH at you.? HAHAHAHA.? Half Life 2, from what I've seen, may just be the best game yet made.? It's that damn good.

I am a big video game fan.   I love games.    One problem I have though is the endings.  I dont know why, I am just disapointed with the endings of almost all video games.    The ending to GTA San Andreas is boring, the last mission being way too easy.    I dont know what I expect out of game endings, Im just disapointed.    And also, now days, games do lack imagination.       anyway, some games i have recently bought and played are

GTA San Andreas (great, but i like Vice City better)
Mortal Kombat Deception (really good, one of the best, but all character endings suck)
Star Fox Adventures for the Gamecube.   really good as well.

I am eagerly awaiting Resident Evil 4 next Jan.      I will probably buy Silent Hill 4:The Room and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw soon        hopefully they will be good.

More than three counting pc and handhelds.  Because they all have the same games anyway save for a select few that are system exclusive.  And it seems like every few years a new system will come about and be the talk of the town making the others obsolete (sp?).  I just hate how short-lived everything video game related has become.

im playing

Rainbow Six Black arrow for xbox

Fifa 2005 for xbox

Espn nfl 2k5 for xbox

and im waiting for halo 2 and for metal gear solid 3.

i know many people see the industry like if its worse than a few years ago , i think they totaly wrong , the industry is getting better and better with time , yes of course there are 100 games that sucks , but you have 100 games that are cool , i been playing scenes the atari , nintendo , genesis , playstation , n64 , dreamcast and now with the new consoles , the inovation is there , there are more cool games now than before , i think what people missed is to buy a game and to enjoy that game with out having to worry about the other 30 games that came out the same day and thats because the industry is to big now and you have to keep up , some people dont have the time or the money , so there is a lot of crap in the videogame industry but  there is a lot of fun stuff also .

i remember browsing a catalogue of atari games in 1984-5 and there were hundreds of games in it...so its not a new thing to have a wide choice of games...although it was far easier to write a game back then with about 500 lines of code lmao

pro evolution soccer kicks the crap out of fifa football...there is no comparison

As those wonderful people the Oliver Twins would tell you, eh?  ;)

Dizzy the Egg anyone?

I love having a bash at the emulators I have, and I just recently completed Illusion of Time again. It really is an amazing game, and one that I would recommend to absoloutly anyone who liked the original Zelda serious in any way.

What I'm playing:

Mario Tennis: N64
NHL '96:  Sega Genesis
Super Mario Brothers 3: Super Ninetendo (my original broke).

GTA is the only new video game I've really gotten into.  I play Vice City occasionally, but haven't tried San Andreas yet.

I love the brown "Keep It Real" T-Shirts with the picture of the original Ninetendo controller.  I don't really get into new video games much, like someone said before, it's just a bunch of the "latest, flashiest thing".

i don't see the big deal with GTA
GTA was fun at first, the first one, 2D, top view, that was ok, a new concept.

but since GTA 3 ( and then the numerous useless sequels ...) it sucks. it is so boring.  and so old.
since when ? since the developers started to target the CONSOLE gamers. that is the problem.

console gamers are like the MTV audience, so mainstream, that you have to please everybody, therefore make shitty games.

i still play a lot. i've finished farcry and doom 3, and every new PC games. but it's just a habit. i really don't have that much fun anymore.
i have to get back to abandon wares >>>>       http://gamebird.dk/   (KGB !!!!! that was a game)

well well
we'll see with morowind 2.

yes but those hundreds of games were all the games that the atari had , now you have like 30 games per month or something .

and i agree totaly with you pro evolution soccer is way better than fifa , i have winning eleven 8 (pro evolution soccer 4) fro the playstation2 , i just play fifa 2005 for the online thing .

ooo i know. morrowind is just shorter to type :) - and i played elder I and II (arena and daggerfall ?)
but as for rpg, i'd go with the uber linear " Lands of Lore"

what do you guy think about having to be online to playe the single player version of half-Life 2.Personly I think it having to be online for fucking single player thats just wrong.

Halo 2 kick ass defiantly worth buying for anybody that has a Xbox.

Smackdown vs. Raw is pretty good ,but the season mode is way to damn short.

You're kidding?  :-\ How does internet access with Xbox work? I've never played console online gaming before. If you pay a flat monthly fee for unlimited normal internet access, can you use the Xbox with that, with no extra charges?

tj if your asking cause of Half0Life 2 it's only going to be on the pc for a while when it come out.

getting the Xbox online isn't to bad all you have to do is buy a Xbox live start thing ,they come in 3,6 and 12 months subscriptions ,then you just have to hook it up to you Dsl or cable modem, and you can buy subsription cards that will do you for a year for about $70 I thihnk.

The Episode 3 game is pretty good. If you get through the whole thing and beat Anakin/Vader, it unlocks an extra challenge where you replay that battle but as Anakin this time. If you beat that you get a bonus little animated movie on what would have happened if Anakin beat Obi Wan. It also unlocks a bonus mode game where you fight as Darth Vader against Obi Wan on the Death Star in Episode 4.

Other than that I am playing EA Sports Baseball and College Football. Just cant find a game that accurately recreates basketball or hockey

i completely agree with the people saying the games industry has turned crap.

even amazing series like Final Fantasy has turned crap - FFX-2 was the moment i finally gave up on the series. is it just me who doesnt get turned on by digital tits? now theyre trying to rescue it by doind a FFVII series, but theyll probably ruin that too.

last game i liked the look of was Suikoden III, but that never came out in england  :(

You think Killzone is great?  :P Come on, you don't need an expensive graphics card these days to enjoy a proper FPS game like Quake 3 arena, Counterstrike, Doom 1/2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. Console FPS games have never, ever been worth playing. Not even Halo, Turok, or Goldeneye.

By the way, that video was obviously pre-rendered. ;)

I know this is kinda stupid but anyone has played Clive Barker's The Undying, my question will be is there any sequel to that game cause I've been looking and in a page there are a lot of new screenshots, makes me wonder if there is a sequel, yet no page tells about a sequel.

Xbox 360 is worthless. To fully appreciate the shiny new graphics, which is just about all it offers, one has to own a $2000+ HDTV. For that much money, I'll keep my computer instead. Sony won't be getting any of my money either, after their DRM rootkit scam.

Nintendo is the only company that's worth looking at. At least they're still innovating. The DS and the Revolution controller are great examples of Nintendo putting out new ideas instead of shiner graphics.

I agree with much of that

The X box sucked - where are its amazing games, Halo? Give me a break!

Seems people just buy these things because of its ''power'' - but if there are no games that use it who cares? The X Box never backed up its ''power'' with decent game in sufficient number to make it worth while.

Actually you can get a 27" Samsung HDTV for $449. I don't think Microsoft is expecting to much to assume that you aren't hooking up their state of the art gaming console to a 20 yearold 19" Zeineth in a plywood console.

Yes and of course there is nothing innovative about the blu-ray player that will be in PS3. Considering that for around 400 dollars you will be getting a game console that plays discs that will normally require a $1000 Standalone Blu-Ray player.

Yes lets jump on board for the ever innovative Super Mario Bros. 35 on the next Nintendo Console (which 6 months after it's release will be selling for $99 dollars to compete with Microsoft and Sony)

Eh, I'm partial to Fable, Halo, and some others.  But, I agree...if you can only own one system, I'm not sure X-box (or 360) would be the one you should choose.  I own the current "big 3" (Ps2, Xbox, and Gamecube), all for different reasons.  They all have their ups and downs, but, if I had to choose 1, it'd be PS2...simply because their library is larger than either of the other 2.

I was going to plunk down for a 360 on Launch day....then Oblivion got delayed until March-ish.  I'll be waiting to buy my 360 til then. :)

For $350 I could buy a 7800 GT graphics card and enjoy shiny eye candy right now on my computer, if I felt like it. My old CRT monitor has great resolution and it didn't cost me $500+. An LCD's refresh rate and color accuracy will never, ever match the old CRT technology. Quake, or any other fast paced game for that matter, just isn't the same thing on an LCD, even with shiny HD.

Blu-Ray is Sony's gimmick for imposing their own proprietary format on all the rest of the market. HD-DVD isn't much better at that regard, but at least it's easier to manufacture and will be less expensive for consumers. HD quality is only really good for classic movies with great cinematography, like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Citizen Kane, Schindler's List, The Sound of Music, etc. I like these movies, but not enogh to spend thousands of dollars for HD quality.

That's more power than all computers put together just a few decades ago. It was only 20 years ago Bill Gates said something like 32 kb (kb, not mb!) of RAM "ought to be enough for anyone". The xbox is tremendously powerful, but so much of it goes towards shiny graphics instead of gameplay innovation. 733 mhz is fast enough for all the gameplay one could want, but not for graphics hogs. If it can play Quake, it's fast enough, period.

Well, the fact that there's nothing to be excited about is a big part of it. The NES offered great sound, graphics, and a revolutionary control scheme compared to the Atari. The SNES gave us even more buttons and good sprite graphics. The Playstation gave us CD based games and a great controller. The latest generation gave us much better online capabilities. The Xbox 360 has shiner graphics at a higher resolution. That's it.

I bought the Gamecube just to play Super Smash Brothers Melee and it was worth every penny. I have had so much fun with that game with my friends.

I get a sense of wonder whenever I play a great game these days. Even an above average game makes me smile.  :) There are so few good games out there now, a few good ones every once in a while are really great for me. I hope you break your FF addiction like I did, since the series hasn't had a good game in nearly a decade. Well, except for FF Tactics, which is admittedly a Tactics Ogre rip off.

Nintendo has made a great comeback with Wind Waker after the disappointing Ocarina of Time. It's the best Zelda game since A Link To The Past. After the disaster that was the N64, I think they're about to jump back up and surprise us. Quality over quantity, especially for busy people like me!

alright, i'll have to defend Micorsoft here.
again, this IS not about graphics. (and that's why Sony is stressed and pushing its PS3 back ... because they thought it would be about graphics)
a good game is a good game no matter how pretty and advanced it looks ( best game of recent years: kirby on nintendo ds)

i think the xbox 360 is a solid system. because it's complete
everything has been thought FOR the player comfort.
It's powerfull. it's open and talkative with a lot of accessories (mp3 players, media center pc, hdtv, usb, wireless ...)

and more that anything, the system is solid. the kits are (finally) stable and powerfull. the system has been thought for the (very popular) Online mode.
examples of the little details that makes the 360 solid:

* you have a buddy list and an msn-like program to chat (audio/video) with your friends, at any time when your playing a game, you can invite a friend to join you
* you come with you wireless controller, press teh central button> hop in, you're a new player
* the profile has built in preferences such has : inverse mouse, sensibilty of the pad, auto/manual for race games, pas schemes < THIS IS HUGE. this IS major advancement. the day i wont have to re-configure my controls and graphics each time i install a game on pc will be a good day. it may seems like a details, but details like this makes s console system comfortable and makes the user like it
* you plug an mp3 player, the songs are automatically recognized as your soundtrack for the game ...
* the pad is VERY solid and efficient (and the wireless has a cord to power it ... good stuff)

overall the system is amazing. then you need good games. but already the system is powerfull. when we know how Online is important now, ?microsoft did good.
Exactly just like Nintendo and Ds online: simple and efficient. users like that. not everybody is hardcore.

Aye, in this boat, I am.

In truth, I'm buying a 360 purely because of Oblivion. So finding that all pre-christmas consoles had been 'sold' prior to release was no biggie when I found out that Elder Scrolls 4 comes out next year.

Morrowind is the reason that I am playing games again. I was totaly in awe of how good it was. Okay, so the battle method wasn't great, that being an understatement, but it was still enjoyable. I had never experienced a game that was so immersive.

Just excellent. I only got into it the summer gone by (late, huh?) and...Well, I didn't see much of that summer. Four hours would go by like they were nothing...

I was playing Morrowind on my PC, though. Rather than risk running Oblivion on a computer that may, or may not be, up to the task, is a risk that I'm not going to take.

I can't wait.

Correct. Too bad 99% of the games were garbage. The Saturn was a decent system, however. The Playstation was the cd system that actually succeeded where the earlier ones had failed. For one thing, the Saturn was really hard to develop for, and the megadrive cd was competing with the vanilla version. The Playstation didn't have those problems.

It's worth getting the PC version because of mods and less loading time. You'll have to spend as much on a graphics card as the Xbox 360 costs right now, though.

Actually, the $350 HD TV from Walmart is a "tube" TV....not an LCD.

And a REALLY good LCD can actually compare quite favorably to CRT.  But you'll pay through the nose to get that response rate/contrast ratio, so the "bang for the buck" certainly leans in CRT's direction.  But 19" CRT behmoths aren't always practical on some people's desktops.....

Not true.  The ATI X850 pro is quite serviceable and will run Oblivion great (check the dev boards..they confirm it) and won't run you nearly $400 (or $350..for the base and a memory card..which is a ripoff if you ask me).  If you manage to get lucky, you can even mod your 850 Pro to an 850 XT....

I preferred Ocarina of Time (and the fact they included it with Master Quest on the Wind Waker preorder was a great insentive!), personally.  Wind Waker was short (even with all the side quests) and easy.

I do like the look of the new Zelda coming out...Twilight Princess looks very good.

Are you nuts Walk?  Ocarina of Time is the greatest video game of that era, bar none.  Final Fantasy VII is a close second, but had Zelda been on the PSX it surely would have silenced any naysayers.

I was disappointed in the huge number of puzzles in the game instead of the basic fundamentals of room to room fighting. I didn't like the overly expansive Hyrule field and horse riding, either. The skeleton monsters were the only ones that were truly challenging, even though some of the bosses were really fun.

I believe the original Zelda for NES has never been topped, but the SNES LttP was a decent follow-up. Intellectual puzzles and exploration work better for Metroid and Castlevania games. To me, Zelda should be about action, fighting, weapons, and a bit of exploration. I didn't like having to do those ocarina tunes and stuff.

I played the original when I was like 3, and I still play it as a ROM sometimes. It's a timeless gem. I guess Ocarina of Time could only disappoint me, no matter how good it was. It's also more of an adventure game than a true RPG, as well. As an adventure game, it gets owned by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid anyway. It's not bad, but it's not the best.

The best console RPG of the late 90's was probably Xenogears, unless I'm forgetting something (I probably am). It is more complex than the beginner friendly FF VII, the story is mature, the game is nice and long, and the minigames aren't annoying like FF VII's. I liked the Orwellian aspects of it, as well.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night... now that was a fucking masterpiece. Honestly.. i get chills thinking about it. That game was just.. wow. So much personality.. so much freedom to explore.. I really cant describe the greatness. I remember being so sad when I beat it... (as i was with FF7).. a second play through just isn't the same...

I personally don't see myself with a 360 till Halo 3. And even then its only one game.. (even if its got the greatest multiplayer EVER)...

Revolution and PS3 intrest me more.. Revolution for its innovation (which i have yet to see.. but im sure it will be delivered..) ... and PS3 for technical supiority.. (look at killzone 2!!!!) wowzer.

My favorite conole RPG of all time was Chrono Trigger, released in '95.

My favorite RPG of all time (on the PC) is Ultima IV.

My question is: When does Oblivion come out? It's just www.play.com (http://www.play.com) list it as the beggining of March, www.amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk) have it for the end of March and www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com) say that it's out in...April.

So, are any of them correct? Or, does the game not have a release date yet?

I'll definitely play the computer version. Mods will extend the game's already long replayability. I also suspect the technical quality will be a bit higher on pc. Higher resolution, less loading time, and better anti-aliasing, etc. The mouse/keyboard control system is also much better than a clunky controller. Oh yeah, and hotkeys!  : ok:

Oh, sorry, my fault.

I was talking about the Revolution.

I wouldn't be asking the same questions twice.  :)

Getting lost, I loved it. In a sick sort of way. But, the most fucking annoying thing was the...Urshilaku Camp, or whatever it was called. Fuck, that was a bitch to go to, especially seeing as you had to go back and forth...Was that the one? Between the mountains, past the shipwreck...I forget. Good times though!

But. Later in the game, getting lost was very hard, once you had either the magic trousers, dagger or, if you were a very lucky thief, those boots...Up you levitate, above the mountains, and just look at the guide map. Be the arrow.  8)

One thing that I'm very glad that they'll be getting rid of is the fucking repitition of monsters. How many times can you fight a pterodactyl before it gets boring?

Not very many, I'll tell you that. Annoying bastards!

You ever play DWVII? Now thats a fun game.. that I just stopped playing cuz i ran out of motivation. You really gotta push through a game thats 80+ hours long with ghetto graphics like that.. but i did get pretty far. Id recommend it to ya

Tonight I was bored so I rented the WPT Offical Poker computer game.  :hihi:

It's fun for about 30 minutes, then falls flat in an instantaneous moment.  :P

I like the concept of the idea, but a game that no matter how good you are you can still be screwed by luck, makes it a bad idea in action.

I've been playing Oblivion for my Xbox 360.  It's one of the best games, never mind RPG's, I've ever played.  Huge doesn't begin to describe it.  I'm 45 hours in (at least) and have worked on maybe 1/4 of the main quest, at the most.  Master of the Fighters Guild, Champ of the Arena, and working on becoming the Arch-Mage. :)

Then, this past weekend, we picked up Kingdom Hearts 2...so I'm taking a bit of a break from Oblivion and having a go at that.  So far, so good.  It's as good as the original, which is saying quite a bit.

and working on becoming the Arch-Mage. :)

You big geek :hihi: Might have to check Oblivion at some point, but I'm a bit suspicious about the angle/player point of view. It's the same as with Morrowind, right? I'm more of a classic Baldur's Gate / Jagged Alliance fan, with the isometric (?) viewpoint. But I guess that's part of the past these days.

The screenshots I've seen look good though - I doubt my computer can handle it in a very high resolution...

The major improvement on Morrowind is the depth of the side quests. They're great! In Elder Scrolls III they were like... A woman asks you to go and kill a witch who stole her ring, and then she gives you 20 gold. They were bollocks. On Oblivion, I can spend hours just doing the side quests! Pirates, haunted houses, drug rings (nice bit o' Skooma), kidnapping, ghost towns... the attention to them is amazing. I've almost finished the Mages Guild, probably about a third of the way through the main quest and I've done one Fighters Guild quest... I'm also in the Thieves and Dark Brotherhood. The last few hours I've been wandering about trying to get as many daedra artifacts as possible. You can get some quality stuff. Absolute quality!

I'm about 40 hours in, level 18. Redguard (always). Knight (My first time without a custom class, I thought that maybe they had grouped some skills together for a reason... Nope. Hand to fucking Hand to progress my level...pfft).

Whoops, looked like I turned into a geek for a moment there. Now, where did I put my WoW...

(...But seriously, I don't play WoW... Seriously)

It's default view is First Person, but it is playable in 3rd person.  My wife gets "motion sick" when watching FPS type games, so when she's around I play in 3rd person.  It works....with some switching off to FPS for range or magic and occasionally to find the right "clicky".

It is the best RPG I"ve played since Ultima IV...and that's saying something considering I think U4 is the best RPG ever, bar none.

It is a PC resource HOG, that's for sure.  On the Xbox 360, though.....in HD...it looks stunning. :)

The construction kit and the free user mods.

Other than that, not a thing.

You COULD argue the PC can play the game at a higher resolution...with a screaming rig and $350 graphics card(s).

But I don't know many people who have 50 inch widescreen monitors hooked up to their PC's.? Now, you COULD, of course, hook that PC up to your 50 inch TV....but I'm not a fan of trying to do Keyboard/Mouse gaming in my living room....and even wireless USB controllers (which are supported in the PC version of Oblivion) would mean having my PC within reach of our little kiddies.? And that wouldn't be smart....

:)

Bethesda has also committed to patching both the PC and Xbox360 versions (you'll need the Hard Drive, of course) as well as release new content (horse armor, new quests and areas, etc) for both PC and Xbox360 via the Xbox live marketplace.

I've also heard that they're planning, especially given how well the title has sold, finding a way to release the expansions for 360 AS expansions (and not just as the GOTY edition like they did with Morrowind).

A good Oblivion resource: www.oblivionportal.com

I got it the week it came out for Gamecube (January 05). I played the hell outta that masterpiece of a game. Not to be a dick.. but I totally thought RE4 was lame. Not a bad game at all, but certainly not a real resident evil game. Call me old school but I prefer the pre-rendered graphics and tank controls of the original series.

I like it, but the control and camera angles/movement can be frustrating at times.  That being said, it's a damn site better than any of the last 3 TR games, which were each just progressively more awful than the last.

I played it for a bit on the PC....and I agree.   The setup process took for freaking ever.  3 different registrations (and now you've got, I imagine, 2 more with the 2 expansion packs) BEYOND just the game install and setup.  A real pain. And, IMHO, not worth the effort.  I don't know if things have changed to be a bit more solo and small group friendly, but when I was playing the game pretty much required a full group to accomplish anything of significance...and the quests were lame.

I heard some horrible reviews of MLB 06 and almost didnt get it. However since there was no other new version for the Xbox, I got it anyway. I think its quite good. I really enjoy the Inside Edge feature. The audio gets screwed up quite a bit and doesnt match whats actually happening on the field. I've gotten to the point that I just turn the sound off and listen to music while I play.

Yeah both Fallouts were absolutely ace.
They deserve extra props from being very politically incorrect  and violent while managing to stay credible and true to their own world. You could do drugs, get addicted, kill children, have slaves, buy whores..and none of that stuff ever felt out of the place.
None of it felt like a disconnected feature thrown in there just for the sake of being  controversial. it's a lot more than you can say from violent games of today that are often violent just for the sake of being violent.

stunning graphics, just unreal - maybe the best yet on a console

The 20 on one combat is great fun - when you pull off combos (everything done with one button :-\) it goes into a cool cinematic view

For those who have Wii - No More Heroes is a cool game. It's a 'sandbox' game like GTA, but  a bit more restrictive at times.

I really get into having to get off the couch and move around with this one, you feel more 'part of the action'

From what I know, it wouldnt' much matter if you did...

Maybe things have changed (I'm not an active member of the mod/dl community) but I think unless you've modded or chipped your Xbox 360, it can't play the downloaded "backups" anyway.   So it being on the dl sites PROBABLY doesn't get you the game any faster, even if you did own a 360.

Was it all that hard to do?

I've thought about it...but I'm not one for soldering, etc, inside my console.

Combined with the fact I have a 360 from launch....which means I'm but susceptible to, and warrentied against, the Red Ring of Death.  I'm a little leary of voiding that warranty.

I'm also leary of getting booted off Xbox Live....

There's a strong possibility that Microsoft could block the XBox consoles on the Live thing if the GTA copy isn't original.

At least that's what I've been told. So I rather wait for the original copy than to fuck everything up and not have the opportunity to play GTA on-line and with more missions.

Why you ask.

because GTA games last me years, i never grow tired of them they have so much replayability.

I just hope this one lives up to standards.

I'm loving Assassin's Creed for the PC right now.

I'm loving Assassin's Creed for the PC right now.

Played it for PS3 and really enjoyed it, too.

My one and only complaint was that the camera can be sort of "wonky" at times.

I'd imagine with the PC setup, it'd be easier to deal with.

its not hard to do at all. i modded my 360 and there was no soldering involved. Yeah its true you can get banned from xbox live but thats if you decided to play online (multi player) but a lot of the games that get released online are stealth patched which allows you to play online without getting banned.

I picked up my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV on Tuesday. It's pretty cool so far but there are some things about it that gets on my nerves.

Grand Theft Auto IV has best opening week every.

Take-Two proves crime does pay.

By Mike Smith

Take-Two coughed up Grand Theft Auto IV's first-week sales numbers early this morning, and as predicted, they're absolutely huge. The free-roaming crime drama racked up over $500 million in worldwide sales over its first week, setting a new record for interactive entertainment. The previous record holder, Halo 3, "only" mustered about $300 million.

GTA IV's whopping tally corresponds to about six million copies, of which a touch over half were sold on the game's April 29 launch day. In a press release, Take-Two's chairman, Strauss Zelnick, heralded the game's release as "the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment" and went on to claim it has surpassed any movie or music launch to date.

We're not going to argue. Iron Man's May 2 launch, heralded as a tremendous success, sucked up about 100 million of our hard-earned dollars over the weekend, and even current box-office kingpin Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End sailed away with a mere $142 million. Even though GTA IV's producer, Leslie Benzies, was recently quoted in The Times estimating the game cost approximately $100 million to develop -- making it the most expensive game ever made -- today's announcement should put a smile on the face of every Take-Two employee.
