Title: What should go into a 'bootleg' box set?
Post by: zigthis on November 20, 2006, 12:03:28 PM
What are some of the memorable performances, live or studio, that weren't released on any albums but would contribute to a great bootleg compilation?

Here's my list:

  • "Anything Goes", "Don't Cry" and "Back Off Bitch" from the Troubador, LA 1986
  • "Shadow Of Your Love" and "Whole Lotta Rosie" from the Marquee Club, London 1987
  • "Patience" from the 1989 American Music Awards
  • "Jumpin Jack Flash" studio bootleg (with intro by "Jack tha Wack" from Z100)
  • "Free Fallin" and "Heartbreak Hotel" w/Tom Petty from the 1989 VMAs
  • "Train Kept A Rollin" w/ Aerosmith 1990
  • "Piece of Me" w/ Baz and Metallica 1990
  • "Civil War" and "Down on the Farm" from Farm Aid 1990
  • "Under My Wheels" w/ Alice Cooper from "The Metal Years" soundtrack
  • "Madagascar" from MSG 2002

What else???

16 songs so far. That's a pretty small box.

Include everything GN'R ever recorded in one HUGE box. Would probably be a 20 disc set (if we include CD sessions) and cost a 1000$. I would of course buy it.

One in a Million was actually never cut from the LIES reprints, so it's still in there.? The only live recording of it I know of is CBGB, but there's nothing notable about it, except that it's from before all the crap started.? I remember watching it on 'DVD' and noticed the ditzy girls in the crowd laughing when he says 'faggots' like it was a joke lyric.?

I think the album version is definitive.? Was it ever played live after CBGB?

Gotta add "Dust in the wind" and "Jumping Jack Flash".  I don't know where those were played but they were amazing...
