i'm not 100% sure.  Huntington is RIGHT where KY(where im from), OH, and WV.  if anything i figured they'd go to charleston, WV.  Their arena is much bigger.  its like 2 hours away where im from

Ill be there too man! I only live about 30 minutes away but I got two quick questions...

Is it General Admission on the floor? and How do I get the pre-sale password? I got the pre-sale when I saw Gn'R in NYC but I forget now.

Huntington is about 3-4 hours from north of Morgantown...just shoot down 79 to 64 keep going til you hit Marshall University's exit.

I cant believe that They are playing in my home state and I now live in effin NY(where no date has been announced).  I am from Morgantown and just recently moved here and I thought I would have a better chance of seeing them here when all of the dates started to be announced.  This kind of pisses me off.  Oh well.  They gotta come to NY some time.

can anyone tell me what the capacity of this venue is?

per wikipedia.org:

"The Big Sandy Superstore Arena is a city-owned 9,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Huntington, West Virginia. It is currently home to the Huntington Heroes indoor football team. The arena was built in 1976 as the Huntington Civic Center. Prior to this time the county-owned Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse was the primary venue for sports and concerts in the city. The city and Marshall University were unable to come to an agreement on the building and it was thus built as a concert only venue. Marshall basketball remained at the Fieldhouse until the completion of their own on-campus arena in 1981. All three buildings were thus placed in competition with unfortunate results.

In 1993, the facility was renamed the Huntington Civic Arena, and retrofitted to host team sports events. From 1993-2000, the facility was home to the Huntington Blizzard of the ECHL. It however remains an imperfect venue for sports. The arena now hosts concerts, other various sports and recreation activities and is where Marshall University's graduation ceremonies are held.

Big Sandy Superstore Arena will serve as the new home for the American Indoor Football League's Huntington Heroes starting in 2007. The team spent their inaugural 2006 season at Veterans Memorial Fieldhouse.

The naming rights for the facility were purchased by Big Sandy Superstores, a regional chain of furniture and appliance stores.

Big Sandy Superstore Arena is managed by Spectacor Management Group (SMG)."

I might be making the trek down to West Virginia if we don't get some (more or confirmed) Ohio dates soon.

i agree, im sure youve got nothing to worry about.  not to mention the place is so small there prolly isnt a bad seat in the house.

well looks like i'll be there.  The smaller venue size (and slightly cheaper tickets) than cleveland were the deciding factor.  $76.85 for one floor ticket.   :(  Hopefully it'll be worth it.  I'm a bit worried about high priced shows right now after paying $66 for a floor seat to see Tool and not even being able to see their fucking stage show cuz I was on the floor.

So I ordered my floor general admission tickets this morning as soon as they went on sale, but my question is, does anyone know how many floor tickets there are?  Im kinda short and I dont want to be fighting to see or like be shoulder to shoulder.  Plus is the general tickets for sections 28 and 29 on the seating chart, or all floor sections?
Thanxs

General admission means there are no sections, the floor is open and it's first come first serve.

First time Gn'Rs played WV! (If i'm not mistaken)

This is actually GnR's second trip to WV.  They played in Wheeling on July 20, 1988 (I believe that's the correct date).  So it's definitely been awhile.  I was kinda hoping they would come to Charleston which is only 20 minutes from my house.  But Huntington's only an hour away so that's bad.  I bought 3 tickets during the pre-sale.  I can't wait for the show!!!

i have no clue how many tickets are sold for the floor.  but the floor at hammerstein was a serious mosh pit.  someone very short wouldn't have been able to see unless they were in the front.  i'm not short, and it was hard for me to see at times, and it wasn't sholder to sholder, it was major squished if you were up front.  i guess too it will al depend on the type of crowd that is there.

The crowd at Hunington will probably be pretty crazy, we usually don't get that many bands around here but when we do everyone goes crazy, like X-fest a few weeks ago, I got the crap beat out of me in the pit, but it was still a great concert.   : ok:

If i was going to bootleg the show i'd have my ways, but I just want to enjoy the concert so im not going to bother. Plus I don't have anything to bootleg with  :P

If someone I know does go he'll probably bootleg it becasue he tried to bootleg the Motley Concert last march.

Post by: SharonM on October 17, 2006, 10:55:00 AM
Well darn I was kinda hoping that seating went by the first to get tickets, that really sucks!  :crying:
I was online getting tickets the minute they went on sale through ticketmaster.
My tickets say GA2 seats 136 through 139.
A friend got theirs later in the day and theirs is GA8. I was thinking this was the row you should be in.
But I guess we'll have to get there early and stand around in line half the day to get a half decent spot.
I guess if I'd known this I probably would have opted for the cheaper seats where you actually have a reserved seat, I just don't like the thought of having to fight the crowd for a good spot. I can see it now someone pushing and jabbing me, me getting pissed and knocking their f***ing head off and getting thrown out before the darn thing even starts!

Title: Re: November 3 - Huntington, WV @ Big Sandy Superstore Arena

I'd say if your tickets say GA that they are just general admission tix.  Doesn't matter what the #'s on them say, it's all first come first serve seats.

Is that the old Wild Dawg?
There are also a few places down 4th avenue like Icon (if it's still there) or The Herd Cafe'.
I'll be at one of those places from dinner/drinking until after 9. Not too excited about the opening acts.

Yeah, i think you're right.

Oh, and if anyone still doesn't have tickets to the show I just checked ticketmaster and they must have just released some seats or somehting because there are seats about 10 rows up in section 7.  I bought mine the minute they went on sale and they weren't that good.

What section did you get?

You can still find, at least, 10 seats together in section 7.. and it's right by the stage. There are some sections that have, at least, 20 seats together. You can still buy 50 (the max) floor tickets.

When I was at Marshall, it was where all the kids went to drink. And my friend's band played there a lot.

What about the bar across the street from the venue or the Herd Cafe?
Those places would be easier to get to?

Unless the gig is totally packed you can always get pretty far ahead with a little effort, regardless of the time you show up.

Doors don't open until 7, but if there's a line, you could still probably crowd your way to the front once everyone is allowed in

As of yesterday, you could still buy 50 (the max) GA floor tickets at once. So you could probably do that. If you'd rather not chance it, just buy them tomorrow

this should help

The Big Sandy Superstore Arena is a city-owned 9,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Huntington, West Virginia.

Big Sandy Superstore Arena is managed by Spectacor Management Group (SMG).

I was there, front row. I had a black toboggan on and a 1991 Use Your Illusion tour shirt if anyone saw me. And, um, I was holding that girl who everone was pissed off at. Anyway...

Sabastian Bach was awesome. Crowd was into him the whole time. He had the girl standing two people down from me throw her hat to him. He gave it back.

Papa Roach needed a couple songs to win over the crowd. Their lead singer came over and was singing right in front of the rail. I got to shake hands with him. They won me over.

GNR came on at 11:21 (I had my cell phone out and just happened to look right as the lights went out). The place was on fire from start to finish, which is especially impressive considering this was about a 6 hour show. Axl seemed to be having a good time, enjoying the crowd (even at one point even jokingly telling us to 'calm down...' something to that effect). All through the night he was making comments about the crowd, cracking jokes, etc.

I haven't heard any of the downloads from the current tour, but the new songs sound a lot heavier than they do on the demos (and different from the 2002 live bootlegs). The crowd was into all of them. A ton of people knew the words.

Before Down On The Farm, Axl said, "Ok, what do you guys want to do now? .... That one? This has the potential to be a disaster. I haven't sang this song in 15 years." I forgot who asked, but yes, he did sing it with a British accent.

After the show was over, my friend and I went around back and got to talking to one of the security guards. He said they were all informed before the show that Axl was refusing to go on if a chiropractor wasn't brought to the arena and to be prepared for the worst. Good thing they found one!

All in all, it was the best concert I've ever been to. The band sounded great, Axl sounded great, GNR stayed on stage for about 2 hours, 40 minutes. Incredible night.

Best concert I've ever been to...hands down.  Axl's voice was right on.  Bumblefoot's instrumental version of Don't Cry was one of my favorite parts of the show.  It was good to hear some new songs.  I was kinda disappointed that Madagascar wasn't played.  I loved the fact that they played songs like Used to Love Her, You're Crazy, and Down on the Farm.  Axl said he hopes to see us soon.  I hope they come back.  Anyone have any more pics from the show?

Does anyone have the complete set list from this show??

I got there about 30 minutes before the doors opened and I got a great spot on the floor, not sure about how early you'd wanna get there at New Jersey though.
