Updated:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fCGqTDUbQI

=============

I tabbed Robin Better solo, after many requests. I guess 99% of the 1st part is right, but I dunno about the second part. Any help would be nice, but I think you can play it with the tab I made. Hopefully it will help you guys.

Just a reminder:

The main riff (intro) is like that:

E--18--18--18?18?18?18?18-----18?18?18?18?18---18
B--20--22--20?22?20?22?20-----22---------22---20---22?20

B--18--20--18?20?18?17?18--
G--19--19--19?19?19?19?19?

E---0----0-----0?--0?-
B--15---17---18?-20?

The main chords of the song:

Bb
----8----
----10---
----10---
----8----
----8----
----8-----

D:
----8-----
----10---
----10---
----0----
----0----
----0-----

F:
----3-----
----6---
----5---
----3----
----3----
----3-----

All this with Drop D, of course. And please, tune your guitar half step down.  Thanks pdl from www.perfectcrimegnr.com for the help.

Anyways, here's the solo I tabbed:

Code:
Better
(W. Axl Rose/Robin Finck)

Robin solo
Tabbed by Voodoochild

b - bend
br - bend release
r - release
h - hammer on
p - pull off
~ - vibrato
/ - slide to high
\ - slide to low
? - one note
? - half note
?? - one and half

1st part:

E ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B -15b?br?p13--13h15p13~~-15///-----------------------------------------------------
G -----------14-----------------r?12-10--10h12/14--10h12----------------------------

B --15b?b?b?r--15p13--13h15p13~~15\\\-----------------------------------------------
G ------------------14--------------------------------------------------------------
D ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

E --10----10h12p10--10h12p10\8h10------10-------------------------------------------

A ------------------------------------------------------------------------3h5-------
E ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second part is repeated a few times, but everytime it ends different.
Just play the 2nd part and the finish it with the alternatives below. The third one
leads to the main riff

2nd part:

E -/10\8--6-6p5----6-6p5------------------------------------------------------------
B -/10\8--6-6------6-6----6/8-8/10--10\8-8\6-6p5-----5--5b?r?-----------------------
G -------------3/5--------5/7-7/9----9---7---5----5/7-------------------------------
D ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

B --------6/8--|--13-15-------|------------------13---13-15--------------------------
G --5h7p5------|--------------|------------------------------------------------------
D -------------|--------------|------------------------------------------------------
A -------------|--------------|------------------------------------------------------
E -------------|--------------|------------------------------------------------------

?

I recorded Robin's parts and pdl recorded Bucket's some time ago, but it's almost the same thing as I tabbed (some minor changes in the second part). If you want to follow:

Hope you'll like it! :)

Thanks VooDoo.  Is it possible for you to put it on Guitar Pro or any other Guitar Tabbing program?

For ***** sake, can't you wait until the song is officially released!!!!!!!! In any event I don't believe that your tabulature is correct anyway.

Thanks man. :)

I don't have anything against her. She was just as nice as possible when scanned the aussie article about after-party with Axl & the band.

It's just that it was a hard work to put this out, because 99% of what I see (including some guys playing on Youtube) was wrong.

I actually asked about the intro from Ron some months ago and this is what I got as answer:

Quote
I *think* Robin plays it like this...

15-17-15-17-15-17-15  17-18-17-15  17-15-13  15-13 15-13 12-13
20-20-20-20-20-20-20  20-20-20-20  20-20-18  18-18 18-18 17-17  15-17-18-20

Though the recordings Ive heard from you sound quite correct  ;)

It's just that it was a hard work to put this out, because 99% of what I see (including some guys playing on Youtube) was wrong.

since i'm one of two users on YouTube that do Better on guitar and you're probably referring to me as the guy who is playing it "wrong", i'd just like to clarify that my intention was not to instruct people in how to do it like robin, so your message is a bit uncalled for...

i just hope you don't construe your own playing (http://www.perfectcrimegnr.com/voodoo/better_bucket01.mp3) as "right" in terms of covering it note for note...  and please don't consider this as an affront ;)  regardless whether you were referring to me or the other guy doing the solo on YouTube, i think you're cool, but i don't think it's cool of you to say others do it wrong, when you yourself aren't capable of doing it correct either.

Well, it's your opinion.

FYI there is also at least two new gnr cover bands (like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW1m0iy13T0) - that's what I was talking about. Both got the solos far from being even wrong.

So far, my tab was the closest I saw, hence that's why I posted it. And this recording is old, like I already said in the first post. Still, sounds more accurate than a lot of what is out there. Also said how wasn't 100% correct and even asked for some help - but I guess you're more worried about being defensive and assuming things.

But I saw your two videos and I saw people stating how you were so correct, which is not true. Maybe you could explain that for those people.

Yeah it gives the music a lot more chariter and makes it sound exotic!

i really liked the riffs, very cool ideas, seems pretty accurate. but the solo was a lil off on the bends and timing i think.

here's my take on better

no tab, this was just me jamming over the song. some mistakes here and there but it was a jam, nothing well prepared.

What? I said one thing or another. :P

I stopped playing guitar about a year ago because of wrist problems, hence why I tended to fuck up the bends. The timing was really my fault (and the low volume of the backing track). :P

Yeah, I had this wrist ache for years.. Last year I was working my ass off in a tech magazine and it got really worse, I needed some medical intervention. Also needed to chose between my job (as a journalist, I need to type a lot) and playing guitar because of all the stress in my wrist, so I needed to put the guitar aside for more than six months (and since then, I only play almost once per month, if so at all).

I do have some warm up tricks to do with the wrist now and it's getting better very slowly. :)

If you get the guitar to play it, make sure to do some recordings for us. Oh, and good luck on your exam! :D

thanks man :)

i will do so if i find the time!

the wrists are so complicated. i remember one gig i played that after 1 hour i couldn't open my hand. my wrist was all swollen up for not doing warm exercises. it got worse and i had to see a doctor. thank god no major harm was done and i'm all better now. but i always warm up now

I know they seem like for noobs, but those Flexor Grip hand held strengtheners are a must.

I had to go to Physical Therapy for my arm and they had me doing one *i hadn't used one since I was a guitar noob*

anyhow, I bought one to do that part of my PT at home... I swear after a week, My speed and chops increased big time and i had less hand/finger fatigue.

My wrist problem isn't just fatigue. As I'm a journalist, I need to type all day, so that alone fuck things up to me. I needed to chose: keep working or play guitar only for fun?

Nice! Thank you
Valeu! :)
