If single day tickets are up for sale, I'll probably go. Although I would like to see GNR perform at Metlife Stadium.

I'd be willing to bet single day tickets go on sale after the 3-days are sold.

Don't know, NY is usually the start of a European tour.  Might be coming over for the summer.

I think it's the third year. I don't know if they were doing single day tickets. They call it Governors Ball because it had originally been on Governors Island.

Anyhow, it's been used for festivals for a long time. I'll see if I can find a few shows that happened there.

This one's from the New York Pop Festival, 1970. The festival did not go over well because they set part of the field on fire. This is a pretty rare clip.

Guns N’ Roses On Governors Ball Lineup

The hard-working rock band becomes the festival’s third headliner, joining Kanye West and Kings Of Leon.  Scheduled for early June in New York City, The Governors Ball will also include Nas, Pretty Lights, The Avett Brothers, Grizzly Bear and others.

Scheduled for June 7-9 on Randall’s Island, the Governors Ball Music Festival will also host The xx, Cut Copy, Beach House, Kendrick Lamar, The Lumineers, Animal Collective, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Feist, Young The Giant, Thievery Corporation, Japandroids and Beirut.  While it’s too early to start talking about the festival’s daily schedules, words from promoter Founders Entertainment is that the day-to-day breakdowns will probably be released in May.

But regardless of the schedule, Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose appears to be very excited about the gig.  Yes, the exclamation points were really flying when the rocker talked about his newest booking.

“We’re stoked to be performing at the Governors Ball!” Rose exclaimed.  “We’re all really excited in GNR to be part of this festival, and with such talented and diverse acts in what looks to be a great weekend!!”

Beginning as a one-day festival in 2011, Governors Ball expanded to two days in 2012 and is doing three days of world class-performers this year.

Although early bird and advanced price tickets sold out within five minutes of going on sale in January, three-day regular price GA tickets and VIP packages are currently on sale.  Click here for more information.

Change.org has started a petition to get GN'R removed from the festival, how bizarre. Huh  I read about it in a New York publication.

Petitioning Tom Russell

Founders Entertainment LLC: Remove Guns N' Roses from the lineup for The Governors Ball Music Festival

Petition byDrew Salinger NY

We, the undersigned, agree that while The Governors Ball Music Festival has accrued an excellent selection of bands, musicians, and artists for its 2013 lineup, it has one fatal flaw: The presence of Guns N' Roses. While this band was already unfavorably viewed by many when it first started making music, it has become even more of a shell of its former self in the absence of every original member barring Axl Rose. The latter, one of the most frustratingly inconsistent performers of the modern era, is known best for his inconsiderate treatment of audience members and unprofessional behavior in general. As devoted fans of Governors Ball, we ask you to withdraw your offer to Guns N' Roses to perform at this year's festival and instead support talented musicians who care about their work and respective followings.

Is this a bunch of hipsters protesting that a real rock n' roll band was added to a NYC festival?

Oh the horror.

If we were living in the 1960s or 1970s, a bunch of the most influential bands wouldn't have been booked to this festival either. If it was up to these people. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Sex Pistols, Led Zeppelin and so on all were "unfavorably viewed by many" as well.

Where was that posted?  I think Drew owes Axl and this band an apology.

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the lineup:  hipsters.

Have to say that sometimes it's funny to see the stupid criticisms that people make. For instance, at the Bridge School show I heard a guy say, "Axl is fat and bald now." When I turned around around I saw the guy, and he was both fat and bald.   Cheesy

I wonder how many of the people in uproar have actually seen the band live vs how many are responding based on prejudices.

Not just his opinion when he starts a petition directed at someone's employer.

And his opinion about Axl and the band not caring about the fans and the music they make is not based on anything any band member has said in any of the interviews, tweets, posts, performances ect coming from them.  If he talked to them personally, I don't think he wouldn't have that opinion.  He owes them an apology and everybody else he tried to influence with his misinformation.

And I didn't take him seriously, I just feel bad the band has to read that shit.

rofl rofl rofl rofl hahaha

The festival isn't really a hard rock or metal fest, so I think people are more up in arms about having hard rock being played at what I understand is a relatively softer festival. I wanna go to the show but I'm only going if single day tickets are released. I would hate it if I was there to enjoy some ass kicking music and all the petition signers acted like assholes in the crowd.   Sad

The closed-mindedness I see from some of the Governor's Ball fans or attendees is quite absurd.  Some have even taken video from an off-night and tried present that as what will undoubtedly be seen at the show.  Talk about confirmation bias.

This is par for the course when it comes to hipsters and people from that Brooklyn "indie scene."  They think every successful band is shit except for Radiohead.  They are the most arrogant music fans on earth and only care about shit local bands that have been around since last weekend.  If a band has been around for more than a week it isn't cool to like them anymore.  They are the most closed minded and MISERABLE people that I have ever been around.  They suck.

I am opinionated on music, I say when I think a band sucks, but I would never try to get a band removed from the bill of a show I am going to, who the hell has time for that?  If you don't like the headliner there is an easy solution, leave early.
