Title: DAT's from the UYI recording sessions
Post by: williambailey on February 03, 2007, 11:04:51 PM
Hey, just wondering if anyone would be interested in hearing these, I'm happy to share.? I acquired them from Alan Niven last year along with a number of other things.

They were recorded during the UYI sessons, one DAT is dated 9/21/90 and the other 1/18/91.? They were recorded at Record Plant Recording Studios.? See the pic below:

One is entitled "GN'R Ruffs w/new Slash GTR's 9/21/90" and has the following songs:
Estranged
Locomotive
Breakdown
The Garden
Black Leather
I Don't Care About You
Attitude
New Rose
14 Years w/new Duff Bass

Bascially all the songs are instrumental except for 14 years - which seems to be an early demo version.? They havent worked out all the lyrics yet and some are different or are just mumbled through.? There is also a totally different outro to the song as well.

The other DAT is titled "GN'R Mixes 1/18/91 - Mixes and Q Sound".? The songs are:
November Rain
Live & Let Die
Estranged
Double Talkin Jive
You Ain't the First
Yesterdays
Pretty Tied Up
You Could Be Mine
Bad Apples
Don't Cry (main lyrics)
Don't Cry (Alt. lyrics)

Bascially there are 2 versions of each song.? One is the original version and the other is the same song mixed with "Q Sound".? You can google Q Sound to find out what it is.? Alan said that they were simply experimenting with it.? I believe Pink Floyd's Pulse album was mixed with Q Sound.? Anyhow, personally I struggle to hear much difference - but hey, maybe others can.

Anyhow, let me know if anyone is interested.

Alan also said that he would burn me a copy of the AFD Demos that he has.? Just wondering if these would be the same demos that are already floating around out there, or could they be something new????

The other stuff I got was a couple of awards that were presented to him as well as their Grammy Nomination for best Hard Rock Performance - GNR Lies in 1989.  I also got a couple of sealed copies of Live Like a Suicide.

There was also a couple of other CD's of concerts and other demos and live recordings.  He was selling a few of these CD's at one time.

Do you remember which shows? I'm guessing these are soundboard copies.

Title: Re: DAT's from the UYI recording sessions
Post by: Dash_X on February 07, 2007, 10:14:53 AM
ok the situation with the DAT's is I am burning my copies and posting em off to another guy her in Oz and he is gonna put em in flac format then they will be hosted on this website.? I have been trying to do it and due to my ignorance and my damn pc it's giving me nothing but grief.? So please be patient then they will be on here for everyone to hear.

I have had a few pm's asking about the other stuff I have, here is a pic of the other CD's I got.? They are:

Under My Heal - this has "Salt of the Earth with the Rolling Stones recorded at Trump Plaza Atlantic City 1989.? It also has Under My Wheels with Alice Cooper recorded at the Long Beach Arena in 1987.? Also has Mr Brwonstone the original mix by Alan Niven and Michael Lardie (Im pretty sure this is the same version as the b Side of the It's so Easy vinyl release).

Cornshucker - Patience, One in a Million (this is an all accoustic version sounds pretty cool), You're Crazy and Cornshucker.

Live at the Marquee Club - From the gunners first European tour in 1987.

Jumpin Ax Flash 1986 Demos - Jumpin Jack Flash, You're Crazy, Reckless Life, Heartbreak Hotel, Shadow of Your Love, Welcome to the Jungle, Move to the City and Mama Kin

Guns N Roses Paradise - 2 discs of a live concert with the track listing: It's so Easy, Move to the City, Out Ta Get Me, Mr Brownstone, My Michelle, Sweet Child, Rocket Queen, Welcome to the Jungle, Knockin Heaven's Door, You're Crazy, Paradise City, Nightrain, Mama Kin, L.A. Guns Jam.

Alternates and Unlreleased Sides - this has some GNR, some Great White and a few other things.

I am a little reluctant to up these CD's.? Not to horde the stuff for myself but purely because Alan has been very good to me and he was selling these so I don't wanna take away any of his market/sales.? The DAT's are different since the originals are mine.

(http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5489/picture100jw5.th.jpg) (http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture100jw5.jpg)

I'm almost certain that most of this stuff is already circulating, much of it appeared on compilation bootlegs like 'Hell Revisited' and 'Ultra Rare Trax' - the Lies session stuff was uploaded here and at mygnr in MP3 last year - the UYI DAT stuff metioned earlier is something new though - i think we would all love to hear them!

Title: Re: DAT's from the UYI recording sessions
Post by: estebanf on February 16, 2007, 05:12:04 PM
I posted em off on Wednesday to another guy here in Oz who was gonna convert em to flac then I'll post the links.  I was hoping it would reach him by Friday - he lives on the other side of Australia to me (so they would be up this weekend).  But maybe it didn't get there so he should have em Monday. With the links being posted shortly after.

I tried converting em to Flac myself but was having all sorts of trouble (including my computer deciding it wanted to F with me), so due to time considerations, since I wanna get em up as quick as possible for everyone, I just burnt em and mailed em off to another guy that offered to do it on my behalf.

I will also being posting the original DAT's off to Limulus.  He has kindly offerred to rip em again just in case the original rip of the DAT's to disc can be improved upon.  But who knows, since I paid about $50US to get them ripped to CD here in Oz the first time (since I don't own a DAT player), so I should hope that the original transfer was bloody good!!

thanks for all your efforts and for sharing. Take all the time you need. This kind of stuff deserves the waiting  : ok:

Title: Re: DAT's from the UYI recording sessions
Post by: Mr. Redman on February 16, 2007, 08:10:30 PM
They guy I sent them to has got them I'm just waiting for him to convert and upload em - hopefully it will happen this weekend.

Cheers for your patience.

On a seperate note, I mentioned in an earlier post about the other CD's that Alan had and that I was reluctant to upload those since he was selling them a while back.  Well "burningHills" asked me if I could contact Alan as he wanted to buy some from him also.  Well I did that and Alan's reply was that he would just give them to him.

So to cut a long story short he doesn't have a problem if this music is shared.  So (even though I don't think any of the stuff is new), if anyone wants to hear it I'm sure "burningHills" can upload it for you when he gets the discs.  I won't do it myself as I don't have the time.  But I am sure if someone asks "burningHills" nicely he might do it.

cheers

Marcus

Please reply to your PM. Thanks.

I've waited and waited (and waited) for Chinese Democracy and Duke Nukem Forver for a long time now. Waiting for some old demos (tho they sound like they will definitly be worth the wait and I'm a bit excited) isn't bad in the least. I'm just glad (whatever they sound like) that we will get to hear something that many haven't before.

Thank you to williambailey and everyone else involved going to the trouble of getting this stuff out to us.

Sorry excuse my ignorance - but what exactly do you mean by "is this soundboard". Do you mean was it recorded directly by the guys on the soundboard at the actual concert?

There are basicaly two ways to record a live show. A Soundboard recording (SBD) is when you actually plug the recording device into the band's sound sytem. An Audience recording (AUD) is when you record the concert from the audience with one or more microphones.

We are all hoping that these recordings that you are about to share are all Soundboard recordings (they probably are, since they came from Alan Niven's collection).

You people are fucking unbelievable.

You know what? Even if Alan Niven does send me the same stuff that he sent wb, I doubt that I'm going to even bother uploading it because most of you are fucking ungrateful anyway.

Like mj said - we didn't even know this stuff existed until a few days ago - the guy could easily hoard it for himself and never share, but he's doing us a huge favor. Shut the fuck up, have some patience and wait for it.

In case people were wondering I sent an email today to the guys that are ripping it etc just to see how they were going - not to hurry them along but just to see where things were at.  Im waiting for them to get back to me.

Bascially at this stage it's out of my hands its whenever the manage to get it done.  I will put up links for the downloads as soon as they become available to me.

On a seperate note, I sent the DAT's off to Limulus today to see if he can rip a better quality cd of them - although the current one is fine - he offered so I thought why not give it a try.  I only hope the postal system doesn't f*ck up and lost the DAT's!!!!! :'(

In the mean time to keep you going, I mentioned the 14 years demo song, how some lyrics are different and they also just mumble some of them as well since they obviously havent figured them out yet.  Well the end of the song I mentioned has a different outro - bascially where the album version of the song slows right at the end and comes to a finish, this version does the same then suddenly speeds up again and there is some really fast guitar riffs that go on for an extra minute longer than the album version of the song - pretty cool.

BTW - BurningHills I passed on your postal details to Alan.

Many thanks brother!

Burning hills

Has there been post deleted in this thread?

I read your post like some one is on here jumping up and down screaming for the stuff. I do not see those post anywhere. Please point me to those post.

The few people in here asking for it is mild compared to the people in the 12/20 threads that asked everyday. I think for the most part everybody has been patient and still being patient. Personally I care less if i hear this or not.

Thanks You to William Balley and Burning HIlls or who ever is helping upload this when it happens.

Estranged sounds AMAZING! It has some different piano (probably played by Axl) doing the vocal melody lines (or what would become the vocal melody lines).

Locomotive also have different guitars! I don't know if all guitars were recorded by Slash, but the mix between the rhythm and lead guitars is more 50/50 than on the UYI version (i.e. it is better!). Oh, and my file has some "problems" around 5:25.

This stuff is MAGIC, I can't wait for the rest!

Thank you so much williambayley!

Hey, just got hold of Estranged, absolutely excellent, thank you.  If anyone likes, i can post it in the the 128kbps MP3 i made for myself of it.  A lot quicker and more convenient than downloading the lossless version for anyone like me who doesn't want lossless.  Can also do Locomotive as well, should anyone want it.

I would love to get those two mate! Please, do it! :)

Estranged sounds AMAZING! It has some different piano (probably played by Axl) doing the vocal melody lines (or what would become the vocal melody lines).

Axl played the piano on the album version as well.

They are really amazing williambailey! The piano is very noticable and just shows what a great song this is.

yes, it is. No demos of the song available. Some of you may have an instrumental piano thing, but that's fake.

On a sidenote, the Jumping Ax Flash thing is available at www.GnRsource.com on the forum, for those of you who are interested in that. Same quality (as Locomotive / Estranged) demos of Jungle, Crazy, Heartbreak Hotel, Jumpin Jack Flash + LLAS recordings of "Shadow Of Your love" and two other songs.

Hey all,

I know this is somewhat redundant, but I really think the brand new availability of an instrumental demo of Estranged is a big big deal. So for those that don't want to dig through six pages to find the gem, here you go:

As far as a I know I have copies of the CD's on the way to me directly. They are coming from overseas, so I'm not sure when they will get here.

Basically, I tried to offer help by hooking up this guy w/ a friend who could do the ripping and uploading, and unfortunately, my friend was not able to perform this task. His sinced mailed his copy to me. So no blame should pass on williambailey for the delay, he has done everything in his power. The fault is mine.

The day the discs arrive to me I will do the ripping/uploading myself and it will be shared.

My apologies for the delay.

The discs haven't arrived yet to "GNR2006" although I would expect them to arrive to him this week and I know he will whack em up for download ASAP once he gets them.? Since I burnt the discs they have bascially travelled from one side of Australia to the other and now from Oz to the US.

But I can confidently say they will be up and available for everyone before Chinese Democracy is released? ;)

The CD's probably visited more states in Australia than GNR ever did. lol

They have toured Australia only twice - once in 1988 and again in 1993, both times for only two shows in Sydney and Melbourne (on the East Coast of Australia - whilst I live in Perth on the West Coast :(

Fingers crossed they will tour here later this year - now that I am older and can actually afford to fly over to the East I will certainly not be missing out this time if they do!!!

Hey - that's a good point, I didn't think of that.  It would actually be Izzy playing guitars on the songs given the dates of when these DAT's were recorded - the one with TSI stuff was 09/21/90.
