What is the exact location of this concert?  How far is it from Los Angeles?

Any native Calfornians help us out here if you would.  Give us the best airport to fly into....etc.

Thanks :peace:

It's in San Bernadino which is east of LA, not San Diego.   I think you could fly into the Ontario airport.  Here's a map:

Interesting note in the FAQ section of the Pavilion website:

"8) What time does the show usually end?
The Pavilion curfew is 11pm. Most shows are complete by 11pm. There are some exceptions depending on the artists on stage."

Anyone concerned that since G N' R will be last they might not play a full setlist?

from what i've heard, at the inland invasion concerts of the past couple of years the bands before the headliner play for like half an hour each. My friend went a couple of years ago and the Cure headlined. He said they played for way too long. I think this means the headliner will pretty much get a full set.

Also, beware that traffic SUCKS in that area. So plan to show up early and expect to take a good amount of time to get home.

Another friend of mine went to see No Doubt there a couple of years ago too and ended up totally missing the show due to traffic for the concert.

Just a heads up.

That's right, it was a pretty rockin' show!!!

from the main part of LA this venue takes at least 75 minutes to drive to.  There is usually a huge crowd so it helps to get there early for sure!

OK, i did some mapquest research....For those of you flying to L.A.  The distance from Ontario Airport to the show is only 16 miles. It's 71 miles from LAX to the show, and both are roughly the same price (roundtrip from vegas anyway).

That is unless they play another GNR show with just them and another band somewhere in Southern California.  Which i hope will be the case.

Yeah but some people have to fly in the day before. So its easier to Fly into LAX. Ive found a flight and hotel for 2 nights from canada for like less then 600 bucks.

Well of course it will be easier for some people, I was just letting people know to check it out. I can fly roundtrip from Vegas to ONT with 2 nights hotel for $230....I get the same price for LAX, but I would spend so much more trying to get to the Venue from L.A.  Just tryin to find the cheapest way to go is all :)

As far as I know, it's the station identification 106.7 fm in Los Angeles. I grew up down there and as far as i know it was never an acronym.

To anyone flying in for the show, or anyone flying into Ontario, staying in the Ontario area....I was wondering if anyone thats not going to have a car out there, would wanna split a cab. Ontario is 20 miles from where the show is (L.A. is like 77 miles) and I don't wanna pay a cab that much, so if it were split between a few people it would be a hell of a lot cheaper, let me know your plans.

You could probably do the Greyhound. The closest city to Devore I think is San Bernandino. You'd have to look at a map and see if the Greyhound goes any closer.

^ For college?

And a tailgate sounds good, considering there's nothing to do in that area.

tickets will be a minimum of 100 dollars

no way, KROQ has other events called the Weenie Roast and the Almost Acoustic Christmas. Tix were only 65 for both.

have you ever bought tickets for those shows, with the fees they are at least 90 dollars, and thats if you get lucky and dont have to buy them on ebay

yes i have.
and if you go to a ticketmaster location there are no fees.which means its about 120-130 for two. (which is usually the limit). and with fees online its usually 150 ish depending on how you order them.

Does anybody know what other bands are gonna be playing?

I think these Inland Invasion shows usually have some sort of theme.  One year they had all punk bands (new and old), another year it was like some 80's revival (meaning The Cure and bands like that) and last year I think had a 90's theme.

GNR doesn't really fit into any scene or movement though, they kind of transcended it all.

I hope someone from the California area organizes a sick before and after party, because this show is gonna be off the wall, in-fuckin'- tense ;D

Mustang's in New York was awesome so lets top that, or at least match those good times with some great memories in Cali come September : ok:

Well then, you should know something old man.  There is NOTHING to do in Devore.  It is located in the middle of nowhere.  To make things worse, it is 65 miles away from Los Angeles, where all the fun is.  BUT, if they DO play the Staples Center, I know a great place we can all meet up and have good time.  But for Devore, forget it buddy.  The best activity there is to beat up emo kids who are there to see the crappy bands.

I would like to know on anyone's honest opinion(s).  Do you think GNR will come to St. Louis, Nashville, or Memphis on their U.S. tour?

Post by: EFISH on June 29, 2006, 12:44:41 AM
there really is no way to know...

St. Louis maybe...

and they might play somewhere in Tennesee MAYBE.. it depends how big the tour is..

its going to start in Cali and head down to the eastcost and either end in Florida or New York.

thats my guess atleast.

More like a couple weeks before the show.  It might be late August before we get information.  They do this to stop ticket brokers from being prepared.

And if anyone's going to try to get tickets, you better be on there RIGHT when they go on sale.  All of KROQ's events (Weenie Roast, Inland Invasion, Almost Acoustic Christmas) sell out in 5-10 minutes.  However Hyundai has a lot of grass space so that might push it up to 15-25.  DONT QUOTE ME ON THIS THOUGH, if you go on 10 minutes later and the tickets aren't there then don't blame me.

just be on when they go on sale and hope badly that you'll get them.  honestly the inland invasion isn't as publicized as events like the weenie roast, but with GNR they'll be promoting this like hell on the radio and on their website.

just words of warning.

Yes, it's in the middle of nowhere....L.A. is 65 miles away, that's where all the fun an games are.

My money is on the Staples Center...maybe September 30.  A Staples Center show we can have a pre and post party, but not in the middle of the desert.  Damn you Cirque de Soleil!

i already did....as i've said in the other thread...I really don't htink it's anything to worry about....the little message on the main page changed twice in 15 minutes....since it's a festival, thay got other bands to promote too, and promote the festival as a whole, not just as a Gn'R show.....so I think they changed it cause they're getting ready to announce artist lineup, on sale date, ect.     I hope.

What a surprise.. :-\  People just can't keep something secret.. :(

I'd say it's prolly not first come first serve as Hyundia Pavillion sounds like Cricket Pavillion here in Phx.  It's setup with full assigned seating, and then behind that is a grass area.  I'm thinking this will be the same.. Thoughts?

I hope there are better seats on Sat.  but I dunno I got an insurance seat Loge 6 row M I've never been there b4 but a scalper told me he is surprised I was able to get one that good and that these sales are crooked to much money to be made.  While he offer me Orch for $215.  Since many of us will be sittin by ourselves we'll have to arrange a party

The thing I printed doesn't give exact seats as one of the guys here at work (luckily he's a big fan too) ordered them as I don't get paid till tomorrow, but I know it was Loge something.. I know it was Row Y, so it's prolly right before the grass, but those of us going should all get together somewhere and then it will be a party...

Hmmmmmmm.. there's always Saturday I guess, but isn't the idea of an internet pre-sale for the fans to get good seats before other non-seasoned fans?  I know the radio stations usually get the really good ones, and of course promoters, the band, ticketmaster employees, etc.. but the back of Loge is not necessarily that great of a deal for an internet pre-sale, or am I missing something?

When I did the pre-sale in 2002 for the show at America West Arena that never happened, I had front level floor GA as that's how they were doing the front.

What's Hyundai's policy on tailgating?

Well guys heres what I got...

The Venue...

The Venue (Larger view area)

And the ONLY fucking clubs around it... =/.

I'd rather tail gate.. we really wont have time for a preparty.

If we wanna tail gate we gotta be there early though. Like 11 if we all wanna chill. Doors open at 2 and I know I wanna get the best seats (on the fucking LAWN ) that I can get... so I'm not too willing to stay very long after doors open.

Hey I found these articles explaining why most of you couldn't find good seats for this concert or pretty much any other concert you tried to get tickets for and also shows are screwed up the ticket system is:

There was NO ticketmaster auction for any of the GN'R shows so far. So, this is not the problem.

if this was a two ticket limit like most KROQ events, people would've gotten better seats instead of stupid lawn.  the problem is scalpers probably got 20 tickets per time they went on, which made it hard to get tickets.

past that whole thing, i got loge seats and i will be attending.
so add me to the list.  8)

I got my tickets. So I'm there! just for kicks I looked on other websites (beside ticketmaster) where people buy/sell tickets. What I found interesting is that, I did not see one "pit" ticket (SRO in front of stage). I was under the impresion there was a "pit" section. Anybody know if pit tickets were available?

I think the only way to get pit tickets is to win them form Kroq. I was looking at those sites too and I did come across one pit ticket, and get this, it was $1,200  :P

I told her to get 4 of the best available and her LA contact put in the request... now I'm just supposed to wait for them to show up in the mail, but my cc still hasn't been charged... Anyone have experience with internal requests?  I'm worried I might end up buying lawn tix in the end.

once i did one of those special deals through my friend's company and what happened was i didn't know until a week or 2 before the show that i even got tickets but they were good seats and that's when my card was charged.   you also may want to ask them how it works because i think its different for every venue/company.

Well we gotta figure this out.  I've never been to Hyundai, and don't know of the landmarks there where we can all possibly meet up and say hello and chill together.  For now I'm guessing the parking lot or something.  I'll be with Axl'sMainMan and we'll chill with Jack's crew.  That's the plan for now anyway.

Perhaps we should have like little HTGTH signs like the ones you see at the airport.

I wonder if once your parked, if you can get back outside the main gates, without getting your ticket ripped?

Because it'd probably be easier meeting up with peeps outside of the venue, as opposed to inside the gates, where it's gunna be nothing but pure mayhem..

Obviously everyone will want to get a parking spot first though...

Hmm.. :-\

KROQ is giving out pit tickets this week. You have to be the 20th caller when they announce to start calling. I also saw that ticketmaster released more seat tickets. I was under the impression only lawn tickets were left. Oh well, I'll be there (lodge 6). I leave to L.A tonight! Hope to catch up with some of you on Saturday. Preparty?

A few questions for the group?

1. Is anybody getting together before the show?

2. What time do you think GN'R will hit the stage?

3. Do you think they will play a full set - or just an hour?

GNR - 2006

I'm not sure how the parking works, but you can pre-pay through ticket master (that's what I did).  I think it holds a spot for you in a premier parking area.  It cost me $20

First of all I was in loge 6 right in the middle.  It started getting a little nuts.  People started throwing bottles at us in the loge and started fires.  I really thought their might be a riot or get cancelled it was out of control.  Then all of a sudden you heard the sound thats in the jaws movies.  Hell yeah and then here comes Jungle.
This concert was simply amazing.  Axl and the band were so tight.  All the people around me were all into it old and young.  Plus all the solos and new songs got great responses, I was very surprised.  Finck, Fortus, and Bumblefoot are amazing guatarist they sound so awesome live.  For christ sakes even The beautiful solo had a great response.  Axl sounded sooooooooooo awesome, unbelievable.  Every song was nailed right on.  Let me know guys and girls if you have any questions.

I'm glad to hear a positive review.

HisRoyalFatness at mygnr wrote this review which left me progressively depressed:

I was there. In the lawn. Just like Vegas, the show comes to a CRASHING halt as soon as they start with the solos. All energy was squandered. He never got the crowd back.

Later in the set, there'd be a burst of applause when a popular song would come on and some applause at the end. But most people were sitting on their hands. New songs were greeted with absolute silence. I've never heard so many people at a rock concert be so quiet.

There was some little girl in front of me who knew the leaks. She sang along to Madagascar, but clamped up as soon as as she realized everyone was laughing at the song. I felt sorry for her. She wanted to believe in Axl. I used to too.

The band came out for their predictable encore when nobody was cheering. The place was fucking packed when fake Alice in Chains came on. Halfway through GnR's set, it had substantially thinned out. My friends and I were about ten - fifteen rows back in the lawn. By the end, we were up to the front. Just wasn't much competition.

Baz got a round of applause when he came out, but that quickly turned to laughter. Old people had to explain to kids who Skid Row was and why they should care that some other guy is singing a song he didn't write or record, backed by a band that didn't write or record it.

There were chants for Slash. There were chants of "no more solos." But mainly, there was just apathy. Several people mentioned how this was the exact same show they'd seen twenty years ago. I saw Ozzfest at the same venue a couple of years ago. Back then, it took me two hours just to get out of the parking lot. This time, the lot was seventy-five percent empty by the time we got back.

On the walk back to the parking lot, people were laughing and talking about how great guns n' roses used to be. It was sad. I saw heroes die last night. It hurt my heart.

Again, most people around me had no idea that Slash wasn't in the band. Congrats Merck, you're doing an ace job of keeping the lid on Axl's embarrasing little secret.

The most excited the crowd was during the performance doesn't even come close to the excitement before Axl took the stage, when everyone was throwing shit at each other and chanting "fuck you" to Axl because, apparently, twenty-thousand screaming fans isn't enough motivation to get Axl to take the stage on time and try to rescue his career from the shitter.

The only way for this to change is for his new band to release their album and play their own songs. They might fail, but at least they'll be failing on their own.

A heartbreaking night. I miss Axl. I wish Guns N' Fuckin' Roses could rule the world. I was drunk off whiskey and stumbling around the parking lot. All I could mumble is "rock is dead."

I wonder how accurate of an account this is

i saw a lot of people near me sitting down, but most people in the orchestra sections were enjoying the music and in some of the other loge sections.  that guy's account is extremely exaggerated, the lawn probably was just sad that they didn't have good seats, haha.

That review is blatantly bollocks- you couldn't hear a single (negative) chant from the crowd the whole show, and the crowd that they showed near the stage on the broadcast didn't look at all thin to me. Everything, even the solos, got a decent ovation.

This guy, for whatever reason, wants to invent stories to make the band look bad.

Finck is damn near legendary to me now, i can't wait to hear his guitar parts on CD, he is totally moving and amazing guitarist, i love his solos, they're more melodic than richard or ron's solos.

before Better, Axl said something like "if it weren't for you downloading bitches, we wouldn't be here right now."  or something, maybe he meant that because we downloaded the leaks, he was forced to go on tour?  yay we helped axl.

I know we shouldn't care about what others say but can you check the recording later and post what you think of it, as you said, some people here seem to love to bitch about the shows/members judging solely on the boots(and maybe with the prejudices?).

.

thanks warose. yep I know it was great at rar paris or another. IMO this song is going to be a stairway for the 21st century boys and girls and guitar kids.
I just wanted to know about it at this show, as it on the web scan sounded to me a bit too tight in comparison to the other live versions.

before Better, Axl said something like "if it weren't for you downloading bitches, we wouldn't be here right now."  or something, maybe he meant that because we downloaded the leaks, he was forced to go on tour?  yay we helped axl.

If so, isn't it encouraging for us, the downloading fuckers?  ;D
I only managed to catch the line like "at least this is my take" just before the song.
Cheers WeHeldTogether. Oh and robin is also talented in song writing, I might add.  :P

Guns N' Roses relights fire
Axl Rose leads a solid revamped lineup that wins over some but not all of wee-hour fans at marathon KROQ show

By Ann Powers, Times Staff Writer

"I see fire!" said W. Axl Rose as he peered out at the masses filling the huge Hyundai Pavilion in San Bernardino. He'd spotted a small conflagration somewhere past the loge area, which was soon extinguished. But Rose, the singer and proprietor of the concept called Guns N' Roses, might have been articulating his hopes for the band's first Southern California appearance in 14 years ? a nervy homecoming that could have proved disastrous, but five songs in, was going all right.

Rose did bring the fire, but it wasn't always reciprocated by the fans, who'd been at the amphitheater all day Saturday to witness KROQ's annual Inland Invasion fest. After sets by arena-rock aspirants including Avenged Sevenfold, 30 Seconds to Mars, Papa Roach and Muse, plus the poignant return of grunge standard-bearers Alice in Chains (with solid new singer William DuVall replacing the deceased Layne Staley, and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park jumping out for a cameo), tens of thousands of black-clad beer drinkers were primed for GNR's onslaught of heavy-metal parking-lot hits. They didn't even riot when Rose took an extra hour to get onstage (around 1 a.m.). But GNR's two-hour set, which relied primarily those hits, only held half the room, as others fled when Rose tried new material or gave one of his three guitarists a lengthy chance to stretch.

Those who stayed enjoyed a rejuvenated Rose. In 2002, when he last unshackled GNR from the studio sessions for the perpetually delayed "Chinese Democracy" album, Rose wasn't really ready to tour: his pipes were rusty, his physique chunky, and his band unable to click. He proved free of those ills this time as he howled through such barn-burners as "Mr. Brownstone" and "It's So Easy" or mid-tempo epics including "November Rain," hitting even the high notes.

Still sporting that baffling corn-row ponytail and looking tight around the forehead, the 44-year-old Rose nonetheless reclaimed his mojo. Big rock gestures drew attention to his agility: his patented snake dance, now more of a big-cat prowl but still commanding; speedy runs down the long side-stage ramps; even a leap atop the baby grand as Dizzy Reed (the only band member from GNR's glory days) played the rolling, unreleased ballad "The Blues."

Rose's theatrics verged on mugging, but were perfectly timed. There was a bit of Sinatra-in-Vegas in his approach: Rose is aware that, this late in his career, his gestures could seem hardened, so he throws in a little emotional distance to epoxy the hits his way.

What's grown more flexible is Rose's relationship to his band ? always an autocracy, but now one that leaves a little room for his subordinates to relax. Guitarist Robin Finck, in particular, has grown toward something like equality with Rose; his solos flashed and bubbled, deviating enough from ex-GNR lead guitarist Slash's style that they gave hope that the new Guns N' Roses is becoming more than a replicant. The other two guitarists, Richard Fortus and Ron Thal, demonstrated killer chops but less brio, mostly hewing to notes that replicated the original versions. Still, when Fortus and Finck turned Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" into a sky-is-crying style blues, Slash's memory was almost ? not quite ? washed away.

That guitar interlude was one of many allowing Rose to exit the stage, presumably to rest his voice and maybe slap Sebastian Bach on the back. (The Skid Row singer joined Rose onstage in a chummy run-through of GNR's "My Michelle.") His costume changes, though simpler than Mariah Carey's, were just as frequent, and those absences affected the set's pace. The crowd's mood also sank when the "new" material surfaced. It's not that the prickly "Better" or the abstract but promising "I.R.S." were weak; they just couldn't match the excitement of "Sweet Child O' Mine," songs that reinvented the power ballad, or the exquisitely bittersweet "Patience." Those certified classics got the throng singing, which energized the band, the electricity trickling up until Rose himself gained another layer of rock-star aura.

A few fans could be spotted singing along with the night's four unreleased songs; they're easily available on the Internet. "You downloading ... ? you're responsible for putting us on this gig," Rose chuckled in a rare bit of stage patter. GNR doesn't need Internet buzz to attract fans, any more than Bob Dylan does, but if Rose needs to believe online buzz is bringing GNR back into the light, let him fool himself. Maybe he'll put "Chinese Democracy" up on iTunes.

Agreed.. the review is bullshit, the fans stuck around, there were SEVERAL thousand people left as they were finishing up PC.. yeah, some people left, but I was looking back at the audience occasionally and still saw the grass was almost full, and that place is HUGE... I can only imagine how many people were actually there when GnR finished..

Granted people left, but when you're looking at a venue of 60,000 people (that was full when Alice in Chains came on), even if half the people left, that would still leave at least 30,000 and I highly doubt half the people left..

The reviewers need to get their heads out of their asses.. Axl's voice was very strong last night.. I heard a couple of cracks during the Blues, but that was it.. I was very impressed w/ the show..

OK, here's MY review.

GUNS N' ROSES kicked every bands ass!  All these other bands used their distortion and other effects to hide behind their crappy playing.  And no, my head isn't in Axl's ass, you can ask anyone to compare the bands, and GN'R will always come out on top.

It was so cool, Jack and his crew found a way to sneak into Loge, and we then organized everything from there.  We started several GUNS....N'.....ROSES chants.  But then things got ugly.  The lame-brain morons in the Lawn section started throwing bottles (I assume they were full of piss).  So everyone in Loge retaliated.  It was so ugly.  Several families left, and the Loge was *About* half-empty.  And those drunk pot heads started several trash fires that raged on throughout the whole night.  And for the lame-o's that trashed Axl for bailing on Newcastle, SHUT UP!  Several coins missed me by mere inches, it was so scary when out of nowhere, there are coins whizzing past your head.  I got so angry, I caught a bottle and hurled it back to the Lawn morons.  There were bottles and cans flying above us for a good 30 minutes or so.

As SOON as the lights went out and the creepy intro music started, everyone ran to their seats and behaved!  Jack and I started the GN'R chant again, and as soon as Robin did his little Jungle bit, the crowd went wild!  And just as when we were going crazy from the suspense......

"Do you know where the FUCK you arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre?!?!?!?"  We all went nuts!  It was such a high energy show, I didn't sit down for one minute!  I was going crazy in the middle of the aisle, SCREAMING the lyrics at the top of my lungs for about 2 and a half hours.  I was jumping up and down, I was like a fucking cheerleader.  Axl kept staring at me (in a nice, loving way), since I was right in the middle, in front of him (a wee bit back, but still good).  And I kept calling the shots, when I shouted better, he played Better...I yelled out IRS, he played IRS.  (No, I didn't ORDER him...I just remembered the past setlists! ;D)

The best part was Paradise City!  I was going nuts with everyone during PC, and then right after the Hooooooome part, the solo, I just went nuts and starting bouncing off everyone and we started a little mosh pit in the aisle.  We couldn't tell anyone apart, and we accidently decked a security member.  Once we realized what happened, we helped the bloke up and behaved for the rest of the time...but we still had fun!  It was so much fun getting high fives from everyone, all the fans were like brothers!  People kept thanking me for the last part, and I got a lot of credit, because I was the smallest guy there, but I had a lot of spirit and fight in me.   We just had a kick ass time.

The 3 guitarist onslaught is just incredible!  They are such good players.  I have always been a fan of these guys, so it was such a pleasure to hear them.  Robin owned the first 3rd of the setlist, with his crazy shred solo and echo effects....Richard owned the second half...his solo+Beautiful won over the crowd...and Bumble owned with his shredding solo+Don't Cry.  Everyone was singing!

The reason energy was low is that people were partying the whole day, and past midnight, people started leaving, because they had their children with them and they were tired.  It doesn't mean the show sucked.  And to the MYGNR poster....you were probably drunk and had smoked a lot of pot, because you are obviously making shit up.  There were no anti-Axl chants, and there were absolutely no Slash chants at all!  Get a life, or better yet, go get the help that you need at a rehab facility!

Ooh, I get some Paradise City confetti!  ;D

If you guys have any questions, ask away!  You'll get a straight answer from me.

Another bull shit review.
Who fled during the solos or new songs? Everyone  clapped and cheered the new songs and teh solos.
The webcast does not lie

This is DEFINITLY not a bullshit review Dave. Half the audience was gone by the end of the show. I was there.

Anyways.. my review

First.. the riots before the show were awesome.. all my friends were bitching n being all "dude Axl isn't gonna show up!" but I knew he would so the rioting just made the experience more "GNR" in my opinion.

As soon as the intro started EVERYBODY shut up. It was insane! And the intro ruled!

Jungle, ISE, Mr. Brownstone and Live And Let Die were AWESOME. Nothing compares to the energy they put out in those 4 songs. Pretty awesome and the highlight of the night.

Robin's guitar solo was solid... and SCOM was pretty good (although I didn't really feel the solo)...

KOHD was really great though.. seriously I loved it. Singing along was great... Axl just makes everything he says sound so funny.. "Come on Inland Invaders.."

And people started moshing to YCBM... that kicked ass.

It started going downhill at Dizzy's piano solo.. people started sitting down or leaving... to be fair, it was pretty late.. and people had been there all day.. but still. People were not buying the very long solo.. likely cause a bunch of the crowd probably doesn't even know Ziggy Stardust... lame.

The downhill trend continued with The Blues... which was very good, but the crowd didn't know it at all. Most people seemed confused... I liked it alot though.. even if I prefer the '02 version.

The guitar duet seemed a bit strange. Like off time or something.. but it was cool! Same thing as with Dizzy's solo though.. people started to leave.

Out Ta Get Me... I really don't remember the reaction... mine or the crowds. I think people were starting to get tired. I enjoyed the song though.

Things picked up around November Rain! That was great. Everyone was standing and enjoying the song... I loved it. The solos were played perfectly.. and there was just tons of emotion.

Better KICKED ASS. Seriously.. the heavy part was awesome. The crowd didn't go crazy for it.. but when the record comes out.. its gonna be a crowd favorite. It was just greatttttt!

My Michelle with Seb was awesome too! Me and Garry were screaming "BACHHH!!! BACHH!! SEBASTION BACHHH!" before the song.. and hell, we were right!

IRS wasn't as cool as I thought it would be.. and the crowd continued to leave.. but it was still fun singing the chorus!

Patience was great.. honestly.. one of my favorite songs of the night.

Nightrain was cool.

Rocket Queen was a nice surprise! But people STILL left during it cause of an extended intro...

Maddy was sweet! I loved it. But for the general crowd it was a sit down or leave song.

And last.. and certainly not least.. Paradise City. Wow. Garry, Jon and I all went into the aisle and started a mosh pit with these other GNR fans.. it was awesome! Just when it was starting to get big though security broke it up.. =/. But it was cool meeting other fans and having a great time.

------------------------------------
All in all.. when Chinese Democracy comes out and people are familar with the new songs.. this band is going to be a force to reckon with in the US. As of right now though, Axl needs to make sure he keeps the momentum up.. especally when people have been up since 5 AM (me) and will fall asleep if given the chance. GNR showing up late and starting a mini riot was awesome for me.. but most of the people were freaking out.. and most of the people were pissed.. =/.

So.. I believe GNR can do it.. and I seriously loved their show.. but theres just some things they need to fix.
-----------------------------------
And why isn't Fortus main lead? That guy KILLS! In my opinion the order of the guitarists should be Fortus, Bumble, and Finck. Not Finck, Fortus, Bumble.

I guess thats up to Axl though. Plus, Robin has been in GNR longer than the other two...
-----------------------------------
And a big fucking "Thank You For Being So Awesome" to AxlsMainMan" and his dad! They were cool.

And a big SUPER AWESOME THANK YOU TO GARRY! Wo0o0o. Thanks for helping us ditch the crappy lawn seats! Thanks for moshing n shit with us.. it was great hanging out with you man and we gotta do it more often!  :peace:.

Oh yeah, Gracie says your personality is "adorable."

Jasjit said "Dude Garry is fucking awesome for helpin us in!"

and Jon said "Dude Garry is gay."... or was that your mom?! DAYUM. Jk.
------------------------------------
Anyways I'll have pictures... a video of WTTJ... a video of PC... and a video of the riot up soon!  :hihi: The riot was class. I loved it. Made my first GNR experence seem legit.

One last thing... my review might seem somewhat negitive cause I said alot of people left.. but its true.. im just being realistic. If Axl wants to make his show better he'll have to do a few things. I for one LOVED the show.... it was great... but im not gonna say it was flawless.

Awesome though.

TTYL guys

I passed on yesterday's show once I heard of the two Universal Ampitheater dates in December.   I read elsware on this thread that decent tickets were tough to get but I had no trouble pulling GA Orchestra Pit tickets on Ticketbastard from Friday afternoon to 10am Saturday. It took a lot of effort not to snap on up but quite honestly, I really hate that shithole in Devore.  As it stands, I managed to score an excellent 5th row Orchestra (EE) in secion 4 for the Sunday show and I'm actually looking forward to finally checking out the band for the first time since the LA Coluseum date in the early 90's with Metallica.

as far as the people leaving go, first off, it was a festival show, not everyone was the to see GnR. Second, it was getting really late.  And third, the loge is what emptied out, but that was due to getting pissed on by flying piss bottles. There was still a hell of a lot of people there.

There was definitely an almost full house in the beginning of the GN'R set - around 60,000. Hell, the pit where I was was even oversold, it was hard to find breathing space, let alone start a mosh.
Most of the people who left did it after nightrain and before the encore. It was already almost 1am. But even for the encore there were at least good 40,000.
The entire show was exactly 2hr5min. Definitely not of the longest sets. And was it me, or was that one of the very few performances this year with NO sound problems?

The sound was great.  The mic fucked up during RQ once, but it was miniscule in comparison to other shows.

I thought Axl fucked it up. He started singing a little too early and then said "fuck" angrily as if it was somebody else's fault. Maybe he couldn't hear himself in the earpiece and that's why got mixed up.
But there were some evident lighting problems. The sides of the stage were often left dark even when Axl was running there.

And those drunk pot heads started several trash fires that raged on throughout the whole night.

hey i was at the lawn   ;D the people that started this shit was the ones that where on the right side of the lawn, then the middle part of the lawn started throwing shit i took a pic with my cell with all the bottles in the walk way between the lodge and lawn

What does KROQ stand for?

Nothing, but if you want, you can pretend it stands for King Rocket Of Queens. I don't know what the hell that means but it's the only thing that fit.

I found this on LA Times website, as usual take it for what it's worth:

Guns N' Roses Relights Fire:

Axl Rose leads a solid revamped lineup that wins over some but not all of wee-hour fans at marathon KROQ show.
"I see fire!" said W. Axl Rose as he peered out at the masses filling the huge Hyundai Pavilion in San Bernardino. He'd spotted a small conflagration, somewhere past the loge area, which was soon extinguished. But Rose, the singer and proprietor of the concept called Guns N' Roses, might have been articulating his hopes for the band's first Southern California appearance in 14 years ? a nervy homecoming that could have proved disastrous but, five songs in, was going all right.

But GNR's two-hour set, which relied primarily on those hits, only held half the room, as others fled when Rose tried new material or gave one of his three guitarists a lengthy chance to stretch.

He proved free of those ills this time as he howled through such barn burners as "Mr. Brownstone" and "It's So Easy" or mid-tempo epics including "November Rain," hitting even the high notes.

Still sporting that baffling cornrow ponytail and looking tight around the forehead, the 44-year-old Rose nonetheless reclaimed his mojo.

Rose's theatrics verged on mugging but were perfectly timed. There was a bit of Sinatra-in-Vegas in his approach: Rose is aware that, this late in his career, his gestures could seem hardened, so he throws in a little emotional distance to epoxy the hits his way.

What's grown more flexible is Rose's relationship to his band ? always an autocracy but now one that leaves a little room for his subordinates to relax. Still, when Fortus and Finck turned Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" into a sky-is-crying-style blues, Slash's memory was almost ? not quite ? washed away.

For all the years Rose has spent tinkering with them, these selections won't shock Guns fans into a new age ? they're logical extensions of the GNR sound Rose left us with in the 1990s, swashbuckling and enjoyably overgrown, a sound expressing no concern for trends, only for Rose's own Blakean vision. It's not that the prickly "Better" or the abstract but promising "I.R.S." were weak; they just couldn't match the excitement of "Sweet Child O' Mine," the song that reinvented the power ballad, or the exquisitely bittersweet "Patience."

Those certified classics got the throng singing, which energized the band, the electricity trickling up until Rose himself gained another layer of rock-star aura.

A few fans could be spotted singing along with the night's four unreleased songs; they're easily available on the Internet. "You downloading ... ? you're responsible for putting us on this gig," Rose said with a chuckle in a rare bit of stage patter. GNR doesn't need Internet buzz to attract fans, any more than Bob Dylan does, but if Rose needs to believe online buzz is bringing GNR back into the light, let him fool himself. Maybe he'll put "Chinese Democracy" up on iTunes.

Interesting review. Considering all of the old GN'R catalogue is already on iTunes, I would expect Chinese Democracy to be released on iTunes the same day the album is released in regular stores. I would also expect the first single to be available on iTunes before the album is out, and pre-ordering will probably be available on iTunes as well. I haven't ever pre-ordered any albums on there, so I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think the album downloads at MIDNIGHT the day it's released. So that's a pretty cool incentive I guess, but I suspect most GN'R fans will just go to a record store and buy a physical copy of it. If it's not a parental advisory album, I'll probably go to Wal-Mart since they're open 24 hours.  Hell, I might just pre-order on Amazon.com. I did that with the Batman Begins DVD and it arrived the day of release. Amazon.com usually has pretty good pre-order deals if I'm not mistaken. :)

Overall a nice review, but i don't know how they expect the new songs to get the same reaction as "sweet child"?  How many times a day is that song played all over the world.  When the new songs get played on the radio they are going to get one hell of a reaction.  It's like the same review over and over.  Sometimes i think they just don't want to say it was good.

KROQ doesn't stand for anything, it means K-ROCK.  like rock n' roll.  the k is just in the station name.  KROQ.  four letter station abbreviation.

OK ? Here?s my review 

First I will give you a brief idea of what my day was like.

I flew in from Boston, MA a few days before the show and stayed in Long Beach, CA.  On the morning of the show I drove to Ontario, CA and checked into my hotel there.  I got to the venue sometime around 12:30ish.  It was great walking around the parking lot because most of the people tailgating were blasting GN?R.  It was my understanding that KROQ fans are not really into GN?R, but you would never have know as there were so many GN?R shirts in the crowd.  I would probably say 3 of 5 people wore GN?R Shirts.  I flew out by myself so I pretty much just walked around for most of the day drinking tons of water (I spent $60 just on water) as it was in the 90?s all day). The other bands on the bill were pretty good ? I didn?t really sit in my seats until GN?R came out, but I could hear them throughout the venue.

So now to the good stuff ? The sun finally set and I could breath again without the hot sun soaking into my body ? and I knew that the GN?R show was right around the corner.  After Alice and Chains came out there was an hour in-between the set to allow for the GN?R stage to get set.  I was walking around, getting my last beer and bathroom break so I wouldn?t have to move while the GN?R show was on.  It was only 9:30 and the fans were getting tired and less patient after burning in the sun drinking all day.

It?s now 10:15 and there are still no signs of Axl and crew and the fans are getting restless.  The venue had videos of random bands playing on the big screens.  Around 10:30 the fans in the lawn started a few fires and I thought that the show was going to get delayed until they put them out.  Thankfully at 10:45 the lights went down and the GNR intro started ? and the fans went absolutely nuts. (In all fairness to the band ? the road crew was not finished with the stage until 10:30 and the stage was only empty for 15 minutes or so).

The band opened with the traditional Welcome to the Jungle, its So Easy & Brownstone.  Axl was on fire and won over 95% of the crowd that had any doubt. The pyro was awesome which always drew cheers from the audience.  Live and Let Die was followed by a well received Robin Fink solo and Sweet Chile O?Mine.  At this point the band was tight and flawless ? Axl stormed the stage with his classic snake like dances and moved energetically thought the show.  His voice was on-target and sounded better than he did during the 2 shows I saw in NY (Which I didn?t think was possible).  After Sweet Child the band went into the newest version of Knockin on Heavens Door which I thought was un-freakin real and well received.  At this point in the show you could see that the crowd was starting to drag a bit.  In my opinion it was not due to the band, but more because of the 10 hours of drinking in the sun, partying.  The band went into a piano moving jam (which I like) and broke into a Dizzy solo (Ziggy Stardust) and then The Blues followed by band introduction. Between the Piano IN Jam, Dizzy Solo, The new song, Piano OUT Jam and Band introductions, the crowd seemed to have lost its energy ? there was way too much of a lull to keep a crowd energetic after such a long day.  That being said, the band broke into Out Ta Get Me, which was well executed, and brought most of the crowd back. Out Ta Get ME was followed by another piano moving Jam, the Epic November Rain, another Band Jam and the new song Better.  Although November Rain an d Better were played unfuckin believable and at their best ? I think with-in the short period of time the fans heard 4 Jams, 2 solo?s, band intro?s, 2 new songs & 2 old songs ? this is where I think they had a hard time keeping the crowd ? at this point is when a chunk of fans had left ? probably just because from fatigue and the 45 min or so of unfamiliar music ? on the softer side of rock.

That being said, the Pit, Orc, Loge and Lawn seats were still 89% full at this point which I think is unbelievable.  Things started to pick up again after the flawlessly performed Better.  Axl came out and introduced his old friend Baz and they tore threw the old classic My Michele ? this was one of my many highlights ? it?s amazing how strong Axl?s voice is after all these years.  Ron Thol was introduced and performed his solo which included the fan favorite Don?t Cry. I.R.S. was the next song played followed and the lighter igniting Patience and the show ending Nightrain.  I.R.S showed both old and new fans that this band is not ready to quit ? they are in this for the long haul.  Nightrain just freakin Wowed me ? again ? how can Axl?s voice still be that powerful ? he tore through that song like a freight train (pun intended) and he finished the song with his traditional ?Good Fucking Night?.  At this point people started to leave as they were most likely unfamiliar with the set and did not know there would be an encore (why would they, none of the other bands had?)  Well I new better ? along with thousand s of other fans. The lights flickered and the band slams into (one of my favorites) Rocket Queen, the epic Madagascar which again performed flawlessly and finished up with a roaring crowd of support in Paradise City.

After the show that started at 10:45am and ended at 1:20am I went to my hotel in Ontario (20 min away ? but got there at 2am due to traffic) went to bed for 4 hours ? woke up drove to Long Beach to grab a flight to Boston which I arrived at 7pm ? long two days ? but well worth every minute of it.

Now that you have read my brief description of how the show went ? I will give you a few of my opinions.

1. Axl looked and sounded great throughout the whole show ? I can?t pick one moment in which I thought he was less than perfect.  I even liked the little ?Nice Boys? ditty he did with Baz before My Michele.

2. The band is tight ? although I loved the original group ? this new band has won me over and I am a believer.

3. The set list for me was perfect ? I understand why they play the Appetite songs and they sound great.  I think they could space out the solo?s and ballads so they don?t run together to keep the energy, but I think they should keep them in the set.

4. Sound was great ? the mix seemed perfect (no Technical Difficulties).

All-in-all it was one of the greatest GN?R shows I have ever seen. As corny as it may sound, they made me proud to be a Guns N? Roses fan.

You're such a nice guy illusionone. No negativism at all.
I think for guns the venue was more like only 75-80% full, but when it has capacity of 65,000+ that is still something.
I thought what happened between Lawn and Loge sucked....That probably forced alot of innocent people to leave.
I go to many concerts and why is it that the biggest idiots I only see at GN'R concerts? Throwing shit on stage and at each other, starting fights, strating fire, even throwing fired objects at each other, chanting "bullshit" during the wait......whatever.
Great performance I agree but I was disappointed with Axl's lack of interaction with the crowd. If you saw the Vegas or SF shows you'll know what I mean. That said I was still pretty stoked since I got alot of interaction with Robin and Ron. I was in the pit.

by the way, I don't think this venue holds anywhere near 60,000.  I think 45,000 is the MAX (sold out Ozzfest last year).

"Hyundai Pavilion at Glen Helen is the nation's largest amphitheater, with the capacity to accommodate over 65,000 people. Located where the 15 and 215 freeways meet in Devore, the Pavilion hosts some of Southern California's biggest concert events."

There were at least 1000 in the pit alone. During AIC's set it was hard to breathe there. Some fights broke up during the wait for guns and people got thrown out and it felt comfortable after that.

OK, here's MY review.

GUNS N' ROSES kicked every bands ass!? All these other bands used their distortion and other effects to hide behind their crappy playing.? And no, my head isn't in Axl's ass, you can ask anyone to compare the bands, and GN'R will always come out on top.

It was so cool, Jack and his crew found a way to sneak into Loge, and we then organized everything from there.? We started several GUNS....N'.....ROSES chants.? But then things got ugly.? The lame-brain morons in the Lawn section started throwing bottles (I assume they were full of piss).? So everyone in Loge retaliated.? It was so ugly.? Several families left, and the Loge was *About* half-empty.? And those drunk pot heads started several trash fires that raged on throughout the whole night.? And for the lame-o's that trashed Axl for bailing on Newcastle, SHUT UP!? Several coins missed me by mere inches, it was so scary when out of nowhere, there are coins whizzing past your head.? I got so angry, I caught a bottle and hurled it back to the Lawn morons.? There were bottles and cans flying above us for a good 30 minutes or so.

As SOON as the lights went out and the creepy intro music started, everyone ran to their seats and behaved!? Jack and I started the GN'R chant again, and as soon as Robin did his little Jungle bit, the crowd went wild!? And just as when we were going crazy from the suspense......

"Do you know where the FUCK you arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre?!?!?!?"? We all went nuts!? It was such a high energy show, I didn't sit down for one minute!? I was going crazy in the middle of the aisle, SCREAMING the lyrics at the top of my lungs for about 2 and a half hours.? I was jumping up and down, I was like a fucking cheerleader.? Axl kept staring at me (in a nice, loving way), since I was right in the middle, in front of him (a wee bit back, but still good).? And I kept calling the shots, when I shouted better, he played Better...I yelled out IRS, he played IRS.? (No, I didn't ORDER him...I just remembered the past setlists! ;D)

The best part was Paradise City!? I was going nuts with everyone during PC, and then right after the Hooooooome part, the solo, I just went nuts and starting bouncing off everyone and we started a little mosh pit in the aisle.? We couldn't tell anyone apart, and we accidently decked a security member.? Once we realized what happened, we helped the bloke up and behaved for the rest of the time...but we still had fun!? It was so much fun getting high fives from everyone, all the fans were like brothers!? People kept thanking me for the last part, and I got a lot of credit, because I was the smallest guy there, but I had a lot of spirit and fight in me.?? We just had a kick ass time.

The 3 guitarist onslaught is just incredible!? They are such good players.? I have always been a fan of these guys, so it was such a pleasure to hear them.? Robin owned the first 3rd of the setlist, with his crazy shred solo and echo effects....Richard owned the second half...his solo+Beautiful won over the crowd...and Bumble owned with his shredding solo+Don't Cry.? Everyone was singing!

The reason energy was low is that people were partying the whole day, and past midnight, people started leaving, because they had their children with them and they were tired.? It doesn't mean the show sucked.? And to the MYGNR poster....you were probably drunk and had smoked a lot of pot, because you are obviously making shit up.? There were no anti-Axl chants, and there were absolutely no Slash chants at all!? Get a life, or better yet, go get the help that you need at a rehab facility!

Ooh, I get some Paradise City confetti!? ;D

If you guys have any questions, ask away!? You'll get a straight answer from me.

This guy nailed it.  I was there and it went just like this.  Wasn't the intro to Jungle bad ass or what.  It gave me shivers.  Then Robin teases us with his guitar it was incredible.  HE is right until you see these guitarist in person it doesn't do them jealous.  They seem to feed off each other.  Nightrain and Paradise with these guitarist in downright amazing.  They started playing Nightrain and started to get a little depressed because I knew they were just going to play Paradise City and thats it.  Boy was I wrong.  Rocket and Maddi came next it.  Hell yes I thought.  It was funny because after nightrain everybody thought it was over, but soon as Rocket came on everybody rushed back to their seats.  Wasn't the intro to rocket queen bad ass too.  It was longer than usual.  And then Paradise City.  I was in heaven.  If any of you get a chance go see these bad ass musicians, DO IT.  It will  blow any music nowdays away TRUST ME.
By the way I think I saw your little mosh pit when they were doing Paradise.  I was in LOGE 6.  If I'm correct you were on the left of me in the aisle doing the mosh.  You were right in the midddle of the stage but in the loge right.  One of the BEST NIGHTS I EVER HAD. :peace:

Dude, EVERYTHING was bad ass!  I loved how everyone ran to their seat when the intro music came on...WOW!  :o

And yes my friend, that's the mosh pit you saw!  I started it!  ;D  I was in loge 7, to the left of your section.  What an amazing night!

I was in Loge 5, Row Y.. *but* when the "riots" started, I moved to the front of Loge and found someone had left before that, so my wife and I were in the very front of Loge for the rest of the night.. :)

Even jumped the barrier when 'Paradise City' started.. :D

Cool beans man, I benefited from people leaving as well, I got to watch the show with my buds.

All hell broke loose during Paradise City, we didn't give a fuck about rules and there was nothing security could do.

Is it me, or was it annoying when they kept pacing up and down the aisles with their pussy little flashlights?  And how they kept checking my ticket everytime I left my section....I'm like, "Dude, don't you remember me?"

Fuck ya Pit was awesome I was actually closer than the Vegas shows(rigth against the bar for awhile) and I didn't think that possible, I was 1 person back but fuck man maybe I'm out of shape but I was tired of standing in the same place for 6 hours.  Thru Avenged, Muse, AIC, the wait and Guns I only went to the pisser once. : ok:

Lies!  ;D  Seriously, thanks for correcting me.  Sharon Osbourne lied when she claimed that 48,000 was a sell-out for Ozzfest (or maybe capacity was reduced because of the second stage at ozzfest).

Everyone else is writing a review of the show, so I figured I'd give my point of view.

First off, I drove out there on Friday night from Phoenix.  That is roughly about a 4 ? hr to 5 hr drive.  When you get lost, it?s ummmm, a little longer.   I couldn?t find the venue to save my life, and it?s a wonder we got there when we did.  Anyhow?

We got to the Pavilion at roughly 1:00 PM.  After having all (3) of my lighters, a pen, and my USB Swiss Army Knife confiscated, we entered what turned out to the the biggest amphitheatre I?ve ever seen in my life.  I let them confiscate this stuff, because it was literally a mile from where we had parked to the gate and most of it was uphill.  I got it from work, so I was like, ?screw it?.

As we were walking around, one of the KROQ guys came up to me and asked me where I got my shirt as it wasn?t the official shirt they were selling (I bought a few from some guy down the street for $10 a piece).  He was actually impressed w/ it and we chatted for a while.  After that, my wife and I were looking for a place to smoke as she had hidden some lighters in her bra, but there was literally no place to smoke in that place.  Security was extremely tight.  So tight in fact, that they had guys on top of the buildings watching everything.

We did eventually find a Harley Davidson place where they were serving alcohol and chilled in there for a while.  We were also able to smoke in there, which was cool.  They were playing the first band ?Poets & Pornstars? on a closed circuit tv-screen in there.  They seemed ok, but I wasn?t going to go sit in the hot sun to watch some no-name band I?d never heard of.  Anyhow, we found out they were selling disposable cameras in there and I confirmed we were allowed to bring ?disposable cameras? in (wish I?d known that BEFORE driving to California) so we bought one.  She?s getting the pics developed today, so I?m praying they turned out.  After that, we headed over to the KROQ stand and checked out what was going on there for a little while, before going to our seats.

The first band we saw was ?Atreyu?.  They were pretty good, but I couldn?t really understand what they were saying.  Then came ?Rise Against?.  Again, a pretty good band, but I still was having a hard time understanding them.  ?BuckCherry? came out next.  This guy was pretty good and got audience participation, but it was kind of hard to see what was going on, because you either needed to hold your arm up to block the sun.. He nailed Crazy Bitch, so I enjoyed their set.  I think it was ?30 Seconds to Mars? next, though I might have the bands out of order as I didn?t have a pen, so I couldn?t write it down. :P  After that, was ?Papa Roach?.  This one I got into.  They were really good live.  If anyone likes them, then I recommend seeing them live.  They were by far the best band of the day IMO.  Then came ?Muse?.  I?m kind of kicking myself in the ass, but before they came out, we decided to walk around some more and hang out, so I didn?t see them.  I?m going by what others have said ?Muse was there?  Wow?.  Ummmm ok, I have no clue who this band is.    This is where I decided to head out and look for an ?official? shirt.. While waiting in line, I ran into somebody that was also there for a shirt.  Upon talking to him, I found he also frequented HTGTH, so I at least ran into one person from the forums.  This was illusionone.  After buying my GnR 2006 American Tour shirt, the three of us chatted for a while when I needed to get food.  I waited for a while for him to come back, however it was getting close to time for ?Alice in Chains? to come out, so we went back to our seats.

This deserves a separate paragraph, as AIC was really good.  I was extremely impressed w/ the guy they got to take Lane Staley?s place.  If you closed your eyes, you could believe it was really him singing.  They were also really LOUD and the crowd was HUGE by then.  It was trickling in all day (especially in the grass), but when they showed up at 9:00 PM, the place was packed.  Even Chester from Linkin Park came out and did a really good rendition of ?Rooster? before the show as over.

After the show was over, ?Guns N? Roses? was scheduled to take the stage at 10:00 PM.  I knew that wasn?t going to to happen, but apparently, nobody else was ready.  I was talking with one of the security guards and he?d heard Axl was still in San Francisco.  I highly doubt that was true, but who knows.  Anyhow, 10 came and went and nothing happened.  At 10:08 the lights went down and everyone started cheering.. I was on my feet and ready.  My wife sat back down about 10:10 as she didn?t believe Axl had made it yet.  I didn?t believe it, but at about 10:18 I finally sat back down.  By this time, they?d playing the Inland Invasion intro thing several times and it was getting old.  Not to mention, the videos they kept playing finally looped.  It was somewhere around this time that I notice stuff is starting to fly toward us.  I turn around and just saw bottle after bottle (and these long plastic things.. not sure what they were) being hurled at Loge.  I know they were just trying to throw shit as far as they could, but it mostly ended up in Loge.  We were in Loge 5, Row Y Seats 1 & 2, so we were pretty close to the action.  I even got hit by a full water bottle in the hand.  It hurt like a son-of-a-bitch too!  I chucked it back at the crowd and flipped them off with a hearty ?FUCK YOU!!!?.  I couldn?t help it, that shit pissed me off, and we were there to have fun, not throw shit and ruin the show.  I was getting worried GnR wouldn?t take the stage because of this shit.

The part that pissed me off the most wasn?t the fact that everyone was chanting ?Bullshit? over and over again and throwing shit, but DJ?s from KROQ had been coming out before every band played ALL day, including Alice in Chains, (which was introduced by Dr. Drew & Stryker) and they never came out ONE TIME to calm the crowd down.  They didn?t say ?be patient? or ?calm down or we?ll end this? or anything.  Nobody had ANY fucking clue what was going on.  Was the band there?  Were they coming?  Nothing.  That?s the part that gets me the most.  Anyway, off my rant and back to the quote, unquote ?riot?.

My wife and I had decided to move closer to the front to get away from the flying shit.  Somewhere around this time, the assholes in the grass (if you were there and didn?t start shit it wasn?t you) decided I guess that what they were throwing wasn?t doing the trick, so they started lighting shit on FIRE and throwing that at the seats!!!  Security didn?t know what to do, as most of them were huddled in a crowd near us in the front of Loge 5.  By this time, a couple of people said ?Axl?s here? and to pass it around, so I did, even though I didn?t believe it.  Then the lights went down and almost immediately, the crowd calmed down.  No more stuff was flying and everyone started cheering.  The headlining band ?Guns N? Roses? had finally arrived.  I?m going to write the rest of the webcast, as I?m at work and don?t remember the setlist in order.

01.  Welcome to the Jungle

When the first couple riffs of ?Welcome to the Jungle? started, everyone went nuts, including me.  I couldn?t believe how incredibly LOUD it was.  Then Axl belts out ?Do you know where the fuck you are?!? and I noticed everyone around me were going crazy.  As soon as the intro music started people were jumping up and down and screaming at the tops of their lungs.. including me..   I couldn?t believe it was actually happening!  I had been let down in 2002 as the tour was cancelled two weeks before I was to see them, but this time they were here and in person, and I was there!  I still can?t believe it to be honest.

02.  It?s So Easy

This has always been one of my all time favorite songs by GnR.  It was great when he went ?fuck off? and everyone put up their middle finger.  He sounded just like I remember him sounding back in the day..

03.  Mr. Brownstone

That was cool, because my wife and I both looked at each other when he said ?worrying?s a waste of my ?fuckin?? time.  I expected it, but it?s different when you see it in person..   The only part that I missed hearing was ?Mutha fucka, Mutha fucka won?t leave my ass alone?.  I think he still had a hell of a crowd during this time, because looking back, I could see several people in the grass.  The place was friggin? packed!

04.  Live and Let Die

I could tell the crowd went completely nuts on this one.  Those of us that listen to boots of other shows know that?s usually the setlist, but to actually see it in person is a completely different experience.. I?d say the audience was SO into this song, that you could literally NOT hear Axl screaming after the verses as there was that much screaming and cheering.. It was great to see that, but at the same time, was disheartening, because I wanted to hear him belt out the screams between verses on this song.

05.  Robin Fink Solo

I really enjoyed the solos.  I typically skip them on bootlegs, but they?re cool to see when you?re there.  This one was fairly long from what I remember.  There were some guys over in Loge 4 I guess (to my right) screaming ?Hurry Up!? as I guess they figured that was wasting their time.  I liked it though.

06.  Sweet Child O? Mine

When the familiar guitar riff started, the crowd went nuts.  This was another one that I personally thought the crowd actually drowned out Axl while singing it.  It?s awesome to sing along to the songs you know, but of course it hurts in the end when you have a copy of the show and can?t hear the lead singer.  I?m not saying it?s a bad thing.. I really enjoyed it..

07.  Knockin? On Heaven?s Door

I really enjoyed this version.  He seems to change it every time he performs it live, and this one was no exception.  It was funny that you?d hear these few people around us going ?hey hey hey hey yeah? not realizing he didn?t do that anymore.. heh..

08.  You Could Be Mine

This was AWESOME!  He nailed this song completely IMO and didn?t miss a beat.  Plus he added the ?with your ass in the air!? part, which my wife and I said to each other as well and then looked in disbelief as he had actually said it.

09.  Dizzy Solo

Dizzy was awesome.  When the intro to ?The Blues? started, I was excited.  I yelled ?The Blues? and people around me were looking at me like they had no clue what I was talking about.

10.  The Blues

I loved this rendition, however I thought this was the song were Axl?s voice was the weakest.  It could just be me, but I feel like he wasn?t hitting it as well as the other songs.  It still sounded awesome, just not as good as other recordings I?ve heard of it.  When he jumped on top of the piano though, that was cool

11.  Band Introductions

Axl said something about being the song of someone.  I thought that was kind of funny.  I think it was earlier, but he mentioned people meeting him in the parking lot before they came in.  He said something like ?So there were these mother fuckers hanging out in the parking lot? and then said something else and ?Man, how lucky can you get??.  Well, that was my take anyway on what he was talking about.  Those are some lucky fans.

12.  Richard & Robin Solo

Both of them jamming out was awesome.  I personally don?t know what Beautiful is, and can?t stand Christina Aguilara, but it was really good.  Seemed a tad long, but I enjoyed it none-the-less.

13.  Out Ta Get Me

Seemed like this one was a crowd favorite.  I noticed tons of people went nuts when this one started.  Was a really awesome version of this song too.  Axl was on fire that night.

14.  Band Jam

I can?t remember this one off-hand, so I?ll have to listen to the webcast.

15.  November Rain

This was the BEST version of November Rain I?ve EVER heard.  There seemed to be a lot of crowd participation on this one too.  The showering sparks at the end was really cool and Axl nailed every key as well as doing the high-pitched parts at the very end, which I personally like better than the original.

16.  Better

I can?t say enough about Better.  I was excited as hell when they started to play this as it is definitely one of my all time favorite GnR songs and it?s new.  This version was loud and the crowd seemed to get into it from what I noticed, but again I was in Loge and didn?t see the grass as clearly all the time.

17.  My Michelle

I enjoyed it immensely.  I knew Sabastian Bach was going to come out, because I was told by someone there that he was at the San Francisco show a couple nights before.  I like him, but his voice is so weak compared to Axl?s that it doesn?t even compare.  Either way it was still a good song and the crowd really like Bach being there.. you could tell.

18.  Don?t Cry Solo

I had heard several times that Bumblefoot plays parts of Don?t Cry, but I didn?t expect the WHOLE SONG, and I also didn?t expect an extended version of it.  He nailed it perfectly from what I could tell, but it was pretty long.  The way I see it is this:  If he knows the whole song, then they should be able to play the same the way it was intended.  With a voice behind it.

19.  I.R.S.

Again one of my fav?s.  This one seemed a little weak to me too, but overall was a really good performance.

20.  Patience

I like Patience, but this is not typically a song for the type of crowd that was there, well known or not.  I noticed the most people leaving during this song.  There wasn?t a lot of people that left, but there were a fair amount.  I?m thinking because by then it was after midnight and people wanted to get out of there.

21.  Night Train

Best version I?ve ever heard, hands down.. Axl nailed every note perfectly.  He even did high parts and it was awesome.  Everyone went nuts over this song.. I know I did.. I was so tired by now from screaming and jumping and head-banging.. you name it, that I?m surprised I had any energy left.  When he said goodnight I saw so many people leaving.  I mean literally running out of there.  I know they want to beat traffic, but the lights were still down.. ummmmm duh.. Needless to say, they came back out a couple of minutes later.. what a surprise..

22.  Rocket Queen

Another of my all-time fav?s.  The extended intro made it that much better.  Awesome song.  The crowd seemed to be into this as well.

23.  Madagascar

I couldn?t believe it when Madi started, because I love this song and I know they don?t play it all that often either.  Best version I?ve ever heard.  It was sweet how loud it was too..

24.  Paradise City

By this time, I?d jumped over the barrier between Loge & the seats in the front section.  I was trying to mimick Axl?s movements with his leg jumping up behind, but failed miserably.. I was done by then.. I couldn?t even hardly stand anymore, but yet I carried on.. When the confetti blew out toward the end, I had to have some of it, so I kept one red, one white, and one blue.  Not sure why, but I did.. heh

As I knew that would be the last song, I waited until the very end after he said ?babeh? and was going to say ?Good Fucking Night? I was out of there as fast as I could to try to get into the parking lot before they left to possibly meet them or whatever, but there was a FENCE in my way all the way down to the bottom of the parking lot.. :P  Oh well, I didn?t meet any of the band, but I had one hell of a good time.

Pre-GNR: Avenged Sevenfold, Muse, Alice in Chains were all awesome bands.  However in between AIC & GNR, people started throwing bottles - and people started lighting fires.  I thought there was going to be some sort of riot for sure, however-

Intro: That intro music was familiar to me - i have heard bootlegs, of course, so i knew as soon as it came on that GNR was here and ready to rock.  All of the other bands were introduced by KROQ DJs, but not GNR.  They required no introduction.

Welcome to the Jungle: After the intro came the opening to Welcome to the Jungle.  This got everyone in the audience extremely hyped up, everyone was jumping around.  Robin repeated the intro a couple of times and then we hear that familiar "Do you know where the fuck you are?" scream from Axl.  The song escalates and it sounds excellent, Axl was top on.

Its So Easy: I see your sister in her sunday dress... i love Tommy's backing vocals, reminds me of Duff singing along with Axl back in 87-93.  Axl sounded kinda strange singing that low voice though, but nothing to complain about.

Mr. Brownstone{/b] Brownstone was fantastic.  The guitarists did great on this song, Richard was rockin and so was Ron and Robin.  Axl did some good vocals in this song.

Live and Let Die: I knew this song was coming because pretty much all of the setlists for GNR have been the same.  The crowd seemed to get in this song, and OMG!  There was blasts of fire on the stage!

Finck Solo: I think this solo was meant to be a prelude to sweet child, Robin's guitar was kinda doing the lyrics, i loved the tremolo effect he had on.  Robin sure is a soulful player, more so than Rich and Ron.

Sweet Child O' Mine: I could tell this song was coming because of Robin's solo.  The crowd became more audible than Axl was, everyone knows this song and its such a favorite.  I loved the solo from Robin, it was excellent.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door: This was a great song to sing along to.  Axl said "I see fire!" Haha.  "I'll sing one, you sing one."  The crowd really got into it, the girl was jumping around like crazy in front of me.

You Could Be Mine: I like the way Brain does the intro this song.  I'm kinda sad he didn't get a drum solo during the set, he really knows what he's doing.  Axl was spot on on this song, so was the rest of the band.  I thought it was funny he did the "with your ass in the air" part of the song.

Dizzy Solo: I was humming along to myself the tune of Ziggy Stardust.  A lot of people didn't even recognize it, i was kinda sad.

The Blues: I knew it was coming.  Axl was okay here, his voice sounded kinda off.  I wish they had the guitar in the intro like the 2002 version, i think it sounds better but without it, it also sounds pretty good.

Band Intro: He introduced everyone but Bumblefoot, who was introduced later when he got his solo.  Axl was talking about something having to do with people meeting him in the parking lot.

Richard & Robin Solo: I love the beautiful solo, the way they composed that song into guitar sounded amazing.  Robin really showed off his playing.

Out Ta Get Me: I was happy when they played this song, i loved the way Axl sang it.  Once again, all members were spot on.

Band Jam There were quite a few funky little jams the band did, with a lot of wah-wah.  I think they did it to hold the attention of the audience while they were moving the piano and stuff.

November Rain: This was the song were Mr. Bumblefoot shined the most (except, well maybe Nightrain).  The end solo of him standing up near Brain and the sparks coming down was freaking epic.  Slash who?  :hihi:

Better: Dedicated this song to "downloading fuckers/bitches/various other names."  It sounded great, i love the "i never wanted you to be so full of anger" part, because its so damn emotional.

My Michelle feat. Bach Sebastian Bach came out and said something about Nice Boys not playing rock n' roll, i actually thought they were going to play it, but sadly, they didn't - however, gladly, they played My Michelle.  I love this little duet, when they trade off in the verses.

Little Wing/Don't Cry Solo, Bumblefoot: I was surprised when Bumble pulled out the intro for Little Wing, i thought he had changed his solo to that instead.  But he did both Little Wing and Don't Cry excelllently.

I.R.S. I think the crowd wasn't in to this song as they were into "Better." However, it still rocked, for me.  I love the melodic Robin solo.

Patience: As mentioned in the last review, a lot of people left, although this is a pretty famous song.  Many many people were singing along, though, and it was great to see Axl running around during the "i've been walking the streets tonight" part of the song.

Nightrain: Ron really shined during his FRETLESS guitar solo.  It was pretty much amazing, he was up there shredding and it was great.  I knew this would be the last song before the encore, a lot of people left because they thought it would be the last song.

Rocket Queen: I lovelovelovelove this song.  Especially the "if you need a shoulder, if you need a friend" outro.  Axl couldn't have sang it better, in my opinion.

Madagascar: I was surprised, i thought they'd play Paradise City after Rocket Queen.  I love the stuff Richard does during the MLK speech.

Paradise City: I knew this would be the end of the show, i was sad, but happy because it was an amazing concert.  "GOOD, FUCKING, NIGHT!"

All in all, a great, amazing show, and i'm happy to be seeing GNR once again in December.  Chinese Democracy Starts Now!

Hell, we've had practice.  The setlist is just about the same as the European setlists.

What is with everyone making a big deal out of the bottle throwing and fire starting?  It happens at almost every show I go to.  Especially at the Hyundia Pavillion.  It wasnt a fabled GnR riot that the media wants it to be.  Its just something that happens at every outdoor venue.  Anyone go to the first Summer Sanitarium show at the Collusium with the massive food-fight? Anyways, Ive seen about 10 shows at Hyundai, it always happens.  It happens at the Verizon Amp. too.  I cant imagine its only a socal thing.

Cricket Pavilion here has had its share of fires and throwing shit, blah blah blah, but to doesn't happen EVERY time and definitely not on that large of a scale..

my point was that it happens all the time and that it wasnt a "GnR riot" that some claim, and it wasnt because Axl was late.  And it really wasnt that bad.  It wasnt as bad as Ozzfest as far as fires are concered.  And Ive seen way worse bottle throwing.  This was nothing.

I disagree.. I didn't see anyone throwing bottles before Alice in Chains or any of the daytime bands.  The bonfires were no big deal.. that's normal, but it was the throwing shit, 'specially the shit that was on fire that *didn't* happen before any of the other bands..

the bottle throwing happens when there is nothing to do but wait for the next band.  the gap between AIC and GNR was the only time it could happen. And besides the firework, which also happens at every show, there was like one t-shirt on fire that was thrown.

People were obviously exaggerating then, because I was told they were lighting everything they could on fire.. I did personally see a bottle that flew toward the front of Loge 5 (where I was) that was partly melted and you could smell it, but I suppose it's possible all they threw as a t-shirt..

On a lighter note:

Where was the soundboard located at this show?

Hey Jerry, the soundboard was surrounded by barricades in the aisle between Loge 7 and 6.

Garry: Let's do it!

ROFLMAOFH!!!!

The reason I ask, is because I'm about 98.9% positive that's my voice yelling "Yeeeeeeeah" when Madagascar is starting.. I know I was really excited when they played that and it was a slow part..

Haha, good times.  It took my voice a few days to recover, I was screaming the whole time.  Jack and I sounded like we had been smoking a carton of cigarettes everyday for 30 years.

I wonder if any of our voices made it to the final cut?

Dunno, but I was in Loge 5, and it's definitely close enough for the soundboard to pick up voices, 'specially when everyone else is silent at that time.. lol

Man I wish all of us could have hung out.. that would've been the shit..

Edit:

I was close to Loge6 by that time as I was slowly moving more toward the left.. hehe

I hope the cameras showed us moshing to Paradise City, we were right behind the soundboard whilst engaging in the mosh.  I gotta watch the whole show and listen and see if I made it on to the show!  :hihi:

I almost wonder if the cameras caught my wife and I, because on Paradise City we had actually jumped over the railing and were going nuts (well I was anyway) in those special seating areas they had right there..

I have NEVER had so much fun at a concert in my life, and I've been to A LOT of concerts.. Hell, Iron Maiden didn't even come close to that..
