Title: Favourite line?
Post by: Aava on February 24, 2006, 03:02:00 PM
What?s your favourite line of a song, could be any songs?

I mean one line, or few lines in maximum, not a whole song.

I?ll start;

" Be careful what you do wish for, you end up losing even more"
Backyard Babies - Year By Year

Cause I've already waited too long"

The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?

Maybe not my favourite of all time, but I like that one.

I can tell just by the climate, and I can tell just by the style
I was born and raised on venus and I may be here a while
Cause every supersonic jerkoff who plugs into the game
Is just like every subatomic genius who just invented pain

Obviously thats 14 years.  Izzy fucking Stadlin.  Another, which is GNR also, would be from Locomotive, "You can sell your body on the street to any one whom you might meet, who'd love to try and get inside and bust your innocence open wide..."  God those fuckers sure knew how to write some fucking songs.  A VERY, VERY UNDERATED BAND AS FAR AS THE SONGWRITING GOES

Your avatar reminded me of another one I like:

I'm not saying right is wrong
It's up to us to make

def. that line also this from Tool's "Reflection"

"I pray the lights lift me out before i pine away.
So crucify? the ego, before its far too late,
to leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
and you will come to find that we are all one mind,
capable of all thats imagined and all conceivable.
Just let the light touch you, and let the words spill through
bringing out our hope and reason, before we pine away.."

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change,
They?re the ones that stay the same.
The don?t know me,
'Cause I?m not here.

And you see the things they never see
All you wanted, I could be
Now you know me, and I'm not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
They can break me
As long as I know who I am

"I'm Still Here" - Johnny Rzeznik

The entire songs lyrics are some of my favorites all time, but I posted the most important ones that stand out to me.

I got a few: (non GNR)

The me that you know he used to have feelings
But the blood has stopped pumping and he's left to decay
The me that you know is now made up of wires
And even when I'm right with you I'm so far away
NIN - The Becoming

Hey God, there's nothing left for me to hide
I lost my ignorance, security and pride
I'm all alone in a world you must despise
Hey God, I believed the promises, the promises and lies
NIN - Terrible Lie

Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Her legs spread out before me, as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Pearl Jam - Black

He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share
His key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere
But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed
By faceless men, well, fuckers
He still stands
Pearl Jam - Given to Fly

you can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself
makes much more sense to live in the present tense
Pearl Jam - Present Tense

I never really wanted you to see
The screwed up side of me that I keep
Locked inside of me so deep

I never meant to be so cold

The taste of your skin
My body is giving in
And I'm falling into you
As you let yourself go
To the end of the world
And I'm falling into you
I'm falling into you

Close your eyes and sacrifice
I breathe you in til I get high
The center of your world pulls men down
Oceans rolling over me
Crashing into you I see
You call for me and I relive

Verse never made to final cut but apprears on lyrics sheet.Always thought it was much more powerfull than anything else on that song. And thats saying quite a lot

From Suck
On live performances, Reznor replaces word "christ" with "fuck" which is just pure genius ;D

"I am the way, I am the light
I am the dark inside the night.
I hear your hopes, I feel your dreams
and in the dark I hear your screams."

A recurrence in a few Savatage songs.

Another Savatage one, specifically from Alone You Breathe:
"You've thrown it all away
And now we'll never see the ending to the play.
The grand design, the final line
And what was meant to be."

I have so many that I love... Aerosmith's Dream On:
"I know what nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes.
I know it?s everybody?s sin
You got to lose to know how to win."

I'll leave with a classic Dan Bern (amazingly talented folk musician) line.  It's from Lightning Jazz:
"I said 'Hey God! Hey God! Hey God!
How's it hangin', tough guy?"

Cool, someone else listens to Savatage : ok:

Here's two of my favorites from them:
"Summers Rain"
I never wanted to know, Never wanted to see
I wasted my time till time wasted me
Never wanted to go, Always wanted to stay
Cause the person I am are the parts that I play
So I play and I plan
And hope and I scheme
To the lure of a night
Filled with unfinished dreams
And I'm holding on tight
To a world gone astray

As they charge me for years
I can no longer pay

"Believe"  Backslash already referenced this one

I am the way, I am the light
I am the dark inside the night
I hear your hopes, I feel your dreams
And in the dark I hear your screams
Don't turn away, Just take my hand
And when you make your final stand
I'll be right there, I'll never leave
And all I ask of you
"Believe"

Hello
Can you hear me?
Am I gettin' through to you?
Hello
Is it late there?
There's a laughter on the line
Are you sure you're there alone?
Cause I'm
Tryin' to explain
Somethin's wrong
Ya just don't sound the same
Why don't you
Why don't you
Go outside
Go outside
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I'm gone, too long.
If your lips
Feel lonely and thirsty
Kiss the rain
And wait for the dawn.
Keep in mind
We're under the same sky
And the nights
As empty for me, as for you
If ya feel
You can't wait till morinin'
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain

Hello
Do you miss me?
I hear you say you do
But not the way I'm missin' you
What's new?
How's the weather?
Is it stormy where you are?
You sound so close but it feels like you're so far
Oh would it mean anything
If you knew
What I'm left imagining
In my mind
In my mind
Would you go
Would you go
Kiss the rain

And you'd fall over me
Think of me
Think of me
Think of me
Only me
Kiss the rain
Whenever you need me
Kiss the rain
Whenever I'm gone too long
If your lips
Feel hungry and tempted
Kiss the rain
and wait for the dawn
Keep in mind
We're under the same skies
And the nights
As empty for me, as for you
If you feel
You can't wait till morning
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Kiss the rain
Oooooohhhhh
Kiss the rain
Oooooohhhhh
Kiss the rain
Hello
Can ya hear me?
Can ya hear me?
Can ya hear me?

"Kiss The Rain" - Billie Myers

ONe of mine would probably be:

"It must be your skin/ That I'm sinking in,
It must be for real/ Cause now I can feel,
I didn't mind, it's not my kind, it's not my time to wonder why
Everything gone white and everything's grey/
Now  you're here, now you're away"

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue On Black

Night falls, I'm alone
Skin chilled to the bone
You... turned and you ran
Slipped right from my hands

Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
Don't mean much
Joker on Jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
As a dead man's touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn't mean a thing
Wont bring you back
Blue on black

Blind, now I see
Truth lies, and in between
Wrongs cant be undone
Slipped from the tip of your tongue

Amen Omen - Ben Harper

what started as a whisper
slowly turned into a scream
searching for an answer
where the question is unseen
i don't know where you came from
and i don't know where you've gone
old friends become old strangers
between the darkness and the dawn

i still hear you saying
all of life is a chance
and is sweetest
when at a glance
but i live a hundred
lifetimes in a day
but i die a little
in every breath that i take

i listen to a whisper
slowly drift away
silence is the loudest
parting word you never say
i put - i put your world
into my veins
now a voiceless sympathy
is all that remains

amen omen
will i see your face again
amen omen
will i see your face again
amen omen
can i find the place within
my life without you

Yes I am alone but then again I always was
As far back as I can tell
I think maybe it's because
Because you were never really real to begin with
I just made you up to hurt myself

I just made you up to hurt myself, yeah
And I just made you up to hurt myself

And it worked.
Yes it did!

You say you don't spook easy
You won't go
But I know
And I pray that you will
Fast as you can, baby run
Free yourself of me
Fast as you can
I may be soft in your palm
But I'll soon grow hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win
My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will disprove your faith in man
So if you catch me trying to find my way into your heart from under your skin
Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself
Fast as you can

Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift
But most of the time it does
And I get to the place where I'm begging for a lift
Or I'll drown in the wonders and the was
And I'll be your girl, if you say it's a gift
'Cause I'm tired of whys, choking on whys,
Just need a little because, because

Here's an excerpt from a Jethro Tull tune called Beastie:

From early days of infancy, through trembling years of youth,
long murky middle-age and final hours long in the tooth,
he is the hundred names of terror, creature you love the least,
picture his name before you, and exorcise the beast.

He roved up and down through history, spectre with tales to tell,
in the darkness when the campfire's dead to each his private hell.
If you look behind your shoulder as you feel his eyes to feast,
you can witness now the everchanging nature of the beast.

Beastie!

If you wear a warmer sporran you can keep the foe at bay,
you can pop those pills and visit some psychiatrist who'll say,
"there's nothing I can do for you, everywhere's a danger zone,
I'd love to help get rid of it, but I've got one of my own."

Beastie!

I
Played the fool today
And I
Can see us vanishing into the crowd
Longing for home again
But home
Is a feeling I buried in you

I'm alright
I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe

And I can't ask for things to be still again
No I can't ask for you
To offer the world through your eyes
Longing for home again
But home
Is a feeling I buried in you

I'm alright
I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright
I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe

My window through which
Nothing hides
And everything sings
I'm counting the signs
And cursing the miles in between

But home
Is a feeling I buried in you
That I buried in you

I'm alright
I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright
I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe

When I breathe
It only hurts when I breathe
When I breathe
It only hurts when I breathe

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy and the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all, they just stand back and let it all be

And try to make an honest stand but they wind up wounded, not even dead

But the enemy I see wears a cloak of decency,
Oh, you know it costs more to store the food than it do to give it.

They talk about a life of brotherly love, show me someone who knows how to

When the rain is blowin' in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace

To make you feel my love

From the same album................

I was born here and I'll die here, against my will
I know it looks like I'm movin' but I'm standin' still
Every nerve in my body is so naked and numb

A little thing you sure will know
Why you came here tonight
And not to those other places
I could imagine there?s PCs and DVDs
And TV shows
And sex in cars what else you like
Now right here is the place I got to be
Tomorrow I?ll be far away
If you got time and nothing else to do now
Together we can change the world

Let?s get it up
Rock?s here to stay
With the best years of our lives we paid our share
Yeah, yeah
Now tell me what is in our way
To push this right in the face everyday

We spread it further on the town
Now, what?d ya know we?re good
To incite a few more disciples
No time to waste makin? haste we?re movin? on
Where we?ll suspend another night

Do I see grinning faces all round here?
?and is this due to my words
Come treat me nice, y? know, I wasn?t
raised here
But I mean everything I say

Let?s get it up
Rock?s here to stay
With the best years of our lives we paid our share
Yeah, yeah
Now tell me what is in our way
To push this right in the face everyday

Ecstasy is all you need
Living in the big machine now
Oh you're so vain
Now your world is way too fast
Nothing's real and nothing lasts
And I'm aware
I'm in love but you don't care

Turn your anger into lust
I'm still here but you don't trust at all
And I'll be waiting
Love and sex and loneliness
Take what's yours and leave the rest
So I'll survive
God it's good to be alive

I'm torn in pieces
I'm blind and waiting for you
My heart is reeling
I'm blind and waiting for you

Still in love with all your sins
Where you stop and I begin
And I'll be waiting
Living like a house on fire
What you fear is your desire
It's hard to deal
I still love the way you feel

Now this angry little girl
Drowning in this petty world
And I'm who you run to
Swallow all your bitter pills
That's what makes you beautiful
You're all or not
I don't need what you ain't got

I'm torn in pieces
I'm blind and waiting for you
My heart is reeling
I'm blind and waiting for you

I'm blind and waiting for you
I'm blind and waiting for you
No I can't believe it's coming true
God it's good to be alive
And I'm still here waiting for you
No I can't believe it's coming true
I'm blind and waiting for you

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,

There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe

Eve 6 - Heart In a Blender:

I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rhines
But the lack there of would leave me empty inside.
Swallow my doubt turn it inside out
Find nothin but faith in nothing
Wanna put my tender heart in a blender
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rondezvous then I'm through with you

I burn burn like a wicker cabinet
Sharp wire and oh so frail
I see our time has gotten stale
The tick-tock of the clock is painful
All sane and logical
I wanna tear it off the wall
I hear the words in clips and phrases
I think sick like gingerale
My stomach turns and I exhale

yeah, I know what you mean  :)   Here's a painting you'll recognize. I love the gritty imagery here:

The color faded the petals died
Down in the city no one cried

I'll never glow -- the way that you glow

But as the scenery grows, I see in differents lights
The shades and shadows undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch; I see from greater heights

You'll never feel the heat of this soul
My fever burns me deeper than I've ever shown -- to you

You'll say, Don't fear your dreams, it's easier than it seems
You'll say you'd never let me fall from hopes so high

You'll say you understand, but you'll never understand
I'll say I'll never wake up knowing how or why
I don't know what to believe in, you don't know who I am

Here are some of my fav non-GN'R lyrics..

I know where I come from
sands of the fatherland
I'll face any battle
though I don't understand

I pledge the allegience
the flag I wave tonight
not only am I grateful
but it's also worth a fight

The Hellacopters - Pride

It brings out the worst in me
When you're not around
I miss the sound of your voice
The silence seems so loud
'Cause there's no one else
Since I found you
I know it's been so hard
You should know

M?tley Crue - If I die tomorrow

It still seems for the best
And I'm far, far a-way
With my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far a-way
With my feet down in the crowds
Letting loose around the world
But the call of home is loud
Still as loud

Slade - Far far away

There's atleast few..  :)

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by.
My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,
together we shall go until we die.
An inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look... see.

And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles,
Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one.
Happiness, no more be sad, happiness....I'm glad.
If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

Led Zeppelin - Thank You

Or even try to school ya!
We've got a mind of our own
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right
Love would never leave us alone
In the darkness there must come out to light

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind

"Over My Head" - The Fray

Goodbye
Hasn't been so good to me
Stepped out into the night
Back against the moon
I saw ten thousand hands with candlelight
We all think that we're right
It's hard to tell
If the night is full of hope or doom

My eyes
Burn with unshed tears
My body is weak
From so many silent years
Too many people say goodbye
Before they say hello
Step into the morning
And disappear

What more than sorry can i say
What more than sorry can i be
Before our love fades away
What more than sorry
Do you want from me

I wasn't looking for a lifetime with you
And I never thought it would hurt just to hear
"I do" and "I do"
And I do a number on myself
And all that I thought to be
And you'll be the one
That just left me undone
By my own, hesitation

[Pre-chorus]
and for the million hours that we were
well I'll smile and remember it all
then I'll turn and go
while your story's completed mine is a long way from done.

[Chorus]
Well I'm on a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high
I'd toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high, high

Spring turned to summer
But then winter turned to mean
The distance seemed right
At the time it was best - to leave
And to leave behind
What I once thought was fine And so real - to me
And while I'm still gone
On the quest for my song
I'm at your - celebration

[Pre-chorus]

[Chorus]

Your wagons been hitched to a star
Well now he'll be your thing that's new
Yeah what little I have you can borrow
'Cause I'm old and I'm blue...

[Pre-chorus]

Well I'm on a champagne high (so high)
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high (so high)
Toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high... high...
So high so high you left me undone
so high, so high you left me undone....

Diamonds and Rust - Judas Priest

I'll be damned, here comes your ghost again
But that's not unusual
It's just that the moon is full
And you decided to call

And here i sit, hand on the telephone
Hearing the voice i'd known
A couple of light years ago
Headed straight for a fall

But we both know what memories can bring
They bring diamonds and rust
Yes we both know what memories can bring
They bring diamonds and rust

Now i see you standing with brown leaves all around and snow in your hair
Now we're smiling out the window of the crummy hotel over washington square
Our breath comes in white clouds, mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me we both could've died then and there

Now you're telling me you're not nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You were so good with words
And at keeping things vague

Cause i need some of that vagueness now
It's all come back too clearly, yes, i love you dearly
And if you're offering me diamonds and rust, i've already paid

Ozzy Osbourne - I Just Want You

There are no unlockable doors
There are no unwinnable wars
There are no unrightable wrongs
Or unsingable songs

There are no unbeatable odds
There are no believable gods
There are no unnameable names
Shall i say it again, yeah

There are no impossible dreams
There are no invisible seams
Each night when the day is through
I don't ask much
I just want you

There are no uncriminal crimes
There are no unrhymable rhymes
There are no identical twins or
Forgivable sins

There are no incurable ills
There are no unkillable thrills
One thing and you know it's true,
I don't ask much
I just want you

I'm sick and tired of bein' sick and tired
I used to go to bed so high and wired
I think i'll buy myself some plastic water
I guess i should have married lennon's daughter

There are no unachievable goals
There are no unsaveable souls
No legitimate kings or queens,
Do you know what i mean?

There are no indisputable truths
And there ain't no fountain of youth
Each night when the day is through,
I don't ask much
I just want you

This old world is mean and cruel,
But still I love it like a fool

I'd rather go to the corner store
Than sing Hosannah on that golden shore,
I'd rather live on Parker Street
Than fly around where the angels meet.

This old world is all I know,
It's dust to dust when I have to go

Somebody else will take my place,
Some other hands, some other face,
Some other eyes will look around
And find the things I've never found.

Don't weep for me when I am gone,
Just keep this old world rolling on,
This world

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me.
Chasing shadows moonlight mystery.
Headed for the overload,
Splattered on the dirty road,
Kick me like youve kicked before,
I cant even feel the pain no more.

-Mick Jagger and Keith Richards "Rocks Off"

We may seem cold, or
We may even be
The most depressing people you've ever known
At heart, what's left, we sadly know
That we are the last truly British people you'll ever know
We are the last truly British people you will ever know
You'll never never want to know

- Morrissey, "We'll Let You Know"

They declared me unfit to live said into that great void my sould
Be hurled
They wanted to know why I did what I did
Well sir I guess theres just a meanness in this world

- Bruce Springsteen, "Nebraska"

I
I can remember
Standing
By the wall
And the guns
Shot above our heads
And we kissed
As though nothing could fall
And the shame
Was on the other side
Oh we can beat them
For ever and ever
Then we can be Heroes
Just for one day

-David Bowie, "Heroes"

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag, ha ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hat pin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

Roger Waters, Pigs(Three Different Ones)

Wear it out tonight
For anyone you think could out do me
Or better still, be my winding wheel " - Ryan Adams (Winding Wheel)

How about:

"...When you're walking downtown
Do you wish I was there
Do you wish it was me
With the windows clear
And the mannequins' eyes
Do they all look like mine?

You know you could
I wish you would
Come pick me up
Take me out
Fuck me up
Steal my records
Screw all my friends behind my back
With a smile on your face
And then do it again
I wish you would... "

I held my beer high in the air when he played that "Hard Way to Fall" (and last two times I saw him in the last 2 months (NYC & NJ):

"See her smiling at him?
That used to be me

Oh, my God, when I was free

My shots are deadly

A great love song -- the best since Stuck On You by Mr. L. Richie

I can be an asshole of the grandest kind
I can withold like it's going out of style
I can be the moodiest baby
And you've never met anyone
As negative as I am sometimes

I am the wisest woman you've ever met
I'm the kindest soul with whom you've connected
I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone
As positive as I am sometimes

You see everything
You see every part
You see all my light
And you love my dark
You dig everything
Of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here

Everything - Alanis Morissette

And drowned her deep inside of me

ah, Just Like Heaven, Perect.

speaking of The Cure, i'd pick the oldies "Siamese Twins" and "The Figurehead" here's a sample from, "Siamese Twins":

I chose an eternity of this
Like falling angels
The world disappeared
Laughing into the fire
Is it always like this?
Flesh and blood and the first kiss
The first colors
The first kiss
We writhed under a red light
Voodoo smile
Siamese twins
A girl at the window looks at me for an hour
Then everything falls apart
Broken inside me
It falls apart
The walls and the ceiling move in time
Push a blade into my hands
Slowly up the stairs
And into the room
Is it always like this?
Dancing in my pocket
Worms eat my skin
She glows and grows
With arms outstretched
Her legs around me
In the morning I cried
Leave me to die
You won't remember my voice
I walked away and grew old
You never talk
We never smile
I scream
You're nothing
laughing into the fire
is it always like this?

perfection, i still love THe Cure, but i wish Robert Smith still wrote like this....

Haven't laughed this hard in a long time
I better stop now before I start crying
Go off to sleep in the sunshine
I don't want to see the day when it's dying

You don't deserve to be lonely
But those drugs you got won't make you feel better
Pretty soon you'll find it's the only
Little part of your life you're keeping together

Because your candle burns too bright
Well, I almost forgot it was twilight

Some people die by the knife
In the movies they die by the laser
Some people die by the wife

Some people die by the shotgun
Some people get lost in a maze
Some people think its a whole lot of fun getting high
Getting lost in a haze

I just want to drown in your love
I want to drown

Everytime I see this in the streets of life it just make me sad
Phill Collins - Another day In paradise  :'(

She calls out to the man on the street
sir, can you help me?
Its cold and Ive nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?

He walks on, doesnt look back
He pretends he cant hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, its another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, its just another day for you,
You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see shes been crying
Shes got blisters on the soles of her feet
Cant walk but shes trying

Oh think twice...

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that shes been there
Probably been moved on from every place
cos she didnt fit in there

Oh think twice...

Ok here goes my first post and thought I would start with fave lyrics.

Manic Street Preachers - This Is Yesterday (whole song is great lyrically)

"Do not listen to a word I say
just listen to what I can keep silent
the only way to gain approval
is by exploiting the very thing that cheapens me
I stare at the sky
and it leaves me blind
I close my eyes
and this is yesterday
someone somewhere soon will take care of you
I repent, I'm sorry, everything is falling apart
houses as ruins and gardens as weeds
why do anything when you can forget everything
I stare at the sky
and it leaves me blind
I close my eyes
and this is yesterday
I stare at the sky "

Next up for me is:

"Well, youre drunk in the alley, baby
With your clothes all torn
And your late night friends
Leave you in the cold grey dawn
Just seemed too many flies on you
I just cant brush them off"

Rolling Stones - Shine A  Light

Next not my style of music anymore but still great lyrics:

There now, just fading in my mind,
irrelevant echoes of mankind.
I never met their demands.
And they never gave me half a chance.

And I don?t know
another thing to talk about.
But I don?t ask for your help
so you can just
forget me.
 :'(

Unbelievable Truth - Forget About Me

Loads more but im at work so better not be on here too long.

They painted up your secrets
And the lies they told to you
And the least they ever gave you
Was the most you ever knew
And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming?
No one's listening anyway.

Your voice is small and fading
And you're hiding here unknown
And you mother loves you father
'cause she's got nowhere to go
And she wonders where these dreams go
'cause the world got in her way
What's the point in never trying?
Nothing's changing anyway.

They press their lips against you
And you love the lies they say
And I tried so hard to reach you
But you're falling anyway
And you know I see right through you
'cause the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming?
You're not listening anyway.

I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty,
to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I move myself between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out. I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.

Tool, "Lateralus"

Bless your soul
You really think you're in control
Well

I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart
to put their lives out on the limb
And all I remember
is thinking I want to be like them

Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

But maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

Shoot by Magnum- Best lyrics EVER It was written 1990, but it reflects society today as well ^^

You take a dangerous line
Holding a loaded gun
It's just a matter of time
Before you hurt someone

So keep your running shoes close
And sing your rebel song
Then disappear like a ghost
The hunter won't be long

Don't you know there's no forgiving
Like a rabbit on the run
When you have to go on living
By the gun...

Shoot
Someone cries, that's the beginning
Shoot
Justify the blood you're spilling
Shoot
Show the world that you're not kidding

From the Spiritual Sky,
Such sweet memories have I
To the Spiritual Sky
How I pray
Yes I pray
     that I won't get lost
     or go astray

As I'm fated for the material world
Get frustrated in the material world
Senses never gratified
Only swelling like a tide
That could drown me in the

yes, I know, is like "goodbye to romance" by Ozzy Osbourne, it talks about leaving B Sabbath, and you know, I still feel Harris is the boss, no matter what.

Goodbye To Romance

[Daisley - Osbourne - Rhoads]

Yesterday has been and gone
Tommorow will I find the sun
Or will it rain
Everybody's having fun
Except me, I'm the lonely one
I live in shame

I say goodbye to romance, yeah
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

I've been the king, I've been the clown
Now broken wings can't hold me down
I'm free again
The jester with the broken crown
It won't be me this time around
To love in vain

I say goodbye to romance, yeah
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

And I feel the time is right
Although I know that you just might say to me
What'cha gonna do
What'cha gonna do
But I have to take this chance goodbye
To friends and to romance
And to all of you
And to all of you
Come on now

I say goodbye to romance, yeah
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

And the weather's looking fine
And I think the sun will shine again
And I feel I've cleared my mind
All the past is left behind again

I say goodbye to romance, yeah
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

that song has some great lyrics probably my favorite from Rage Against the Machine:

As the polls close like a casket

Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The cameras eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Come dancing with devils
Need not to know their names
We'll waltz like an army
For the fear of our pain
Our souls become useless
As the day they were born
In a rusted arm rocking chair
Away from your storm

But still, the truth remains lethal
A lie made by man
Where my shoes become hammers
And my words become sand
Like a sour patch, a wedding batch
Of roses you threw across my floor
In the rusted arm rocking chair
Away from your storm

Come In Closer

Guns N' Roses - "Mr. Brownstone"

I get up around seven
Get outta bed around nine
And I don't worry about nothin' no
Cause worryin's a waste of my [fuckin'] time

Ac/Dc - "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock N' Roll)"

If you think it's easy doin' one night stands
Try playin' in a rock roll band
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock 'n' roll

Hotel, motel
Make you wanna cry
Lady do the hard sell
Know the reason why
Gettin' old
Gettin' grey
Gettin' ripped off
Under-paid
Gettin' sold
Second hand
That's how it goes
Playin' in a band

Motorhead - "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch"

Silver tounged devil, demon lech,
You know just what I'm doing,
I like a little innocent bitch,
You know I ain't just screwing,
I love you baby, love you too much,
I like it fine, I feel your touch,
But your appearance don't hold no class,
You know The Chase Is Better Than The Catch

Motorhead - "Orgasmatron"

I am the one, Orgasmatron, the outstretched grasping hand
My image is of agony, my servants rape the land
Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain
Two thousand years of misery, of torture in my name
Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law
My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore.

I twist the truth, I rule the world, my crown is called deceit
I am the emperor of lies, you grovel at my feet
I rob you and I slaughter you, your downfall is my gain
And still you play the sycophant and revel in you pain
And all my promises are lies, all my love is hate
I am the politician, and I decide your fate

I march before a martyred world, an army for the fight
I speak of great heroic days, of victory and might
I hold a banner drenched in blood, I urge you to be brave
I lead you to your destiny, I lead you to your grave
Your bones will build my palaces, your eyes will stud my crown
For I am Mars, the god of war, and I will cut you down.

Led Zeppelin - "Tangerine"

Measuring a summers day,
I only finds it slips away to grey,
The hours, they bring me pain.

Tangerine, tangerine,
Living reflection from a dream;
I was her love, she was my queen,
And now a thousand years between.

Thinking how it used to be,
Does she still remember times like these?
To think of us again?
And I do.

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I cant let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I dont have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Lets do some living after we die

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I cant let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldnt drag me away

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I dont have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Lets do some living after we die

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day

Wild horses couldnt drag me away
Wild, wild horses, well ride them some day

: ok:  one of my newest favorite songs of all time

The Rolling Stones' lyrics are extremely underrated

100 Years Ago by them is one of my favourite lyrics ever... Especially the part

"Don't you think sometimes it's wise not to grow up?"

I also love this one, by Jeff Buckley:

"Too young to hold on, and too old to just break free and run"

The sky was bible black in Lyon
When I met the Magdalene
She was paralysed in a streetlight
She refused to give her name
And a ring of violet bruises
They were pinned upon her arm
Two hundred francs for sanctuary and she led me by the hand
To a room of dancing shadows where all the heartache disappears
And from glowing tongues of candles I heard her whisper in my ear
"'J'entend ton coeur"
I can hear your heart

Marillion - Bitter Suite

If I picked a GNR lyric it might be:

"It's so easy to be social
It's so easy to be cool.
Yeah, it's easy to be hungry,
When you ain't go shit to lose."

This one's also great:

"Been dazed and confused for so long its not true,
Wanted a woman, never bargained for you.
Lots of people talk and few of them know,
Soul of a woman was created below."

And this one's always appealed to me:

"I've got wild staring eyes.
And I've got a strong urge to fly.
But I got nowhere to fly to."

and in the land of star crossed lovers
and barren hearted wanderers
forever lost in forsaken missives and satan's pull
we seek the unseekable and we speak the unspeakable
our hopes gathering dust to dust
in faith, in compassion, and in love

-Smashing Pumpkins, "Cupid De Locke" the whole is fantastic but these last words are amazing.

The figure stands expressionless
Impassive and alone
Unmoved by this victory
And the seeds of death hes sown

Sworn to avenge
Condemned to hell
Tempt not the blade
All fear the sentinel

it's time for some new favorite lines muthafuckas, no one has posted any in close to 2 years..

What do I have to do for you to let me
Lick you into something like paradise
Let me grab your neck and taste you honey
Pleasure without money

I love you when you touch yourself
Watch yourself, express yourself with me

Cause I used you as my ashtray

I don't need no immediate relation
Seems like a lot of women live close to desperation
Let me look into your eyes
Have you been around
Promiscuous clown

I don't want to repeat my life
You were my Monday, tomorrow's Tuesday my love
If no woman's around, a little sensation
Endless masturbation

all lines from have you been around with hardcore superstar, wish they got back to those lyrical themes and sound :P

She's got a brother
We don't get on with one another
But I quite fancy her mother
And I think that she likes me

She's got a cousin
In fact, she's got 'bout a dozen
She's got one in the oven
But it's nothing to do with me

And you're not very bright
You think that everything you've done's fantastic
Your music's shite, it keeps me up all night

I miss the catch if they throw me the ball
I'm the last chick standing up against the wall
Keep up falling, these heels that keep me boring
Getting glammed up and sitting on the fence now
So alone all the time and I lock myself away
Listen to me, I'm not
although I'm dressed up out 'n all
With everything considered they forget my name, ame ame ame...

They call me hell
They call me Stacey
They call me her
They call me Jane
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name!

They call me quiet girl
But I'm a riot
Mary-Jo-Lisa
Always the same
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my name
That's not my nay me!

Some pieces of Bumblefoot songs:

"Life is what happens in-between the dreams you're trying to remember
Life is what happens in-between going for your longest breath underwater
Life is what happens in-between the red lights and stop signs
Life is what happens in-between losing your patience on the express line

Life is what happens in-between letting the phone ring and staring at the number
Life is what happens in-between finding out what no one wants to tell ya.
Life is what happens in-between staying for the end of your favorite song
Life is what happens in-between wanting to say it, but waiting too long

Life is what happens in-between each fight on the message board
Life is what happens in-between each time I leave for another tour
Life is what happens in-between the holding out for a better spot
Life is what happens when you take a chance and lose what ya got

Life is what happens in-between the traffic stopped to look at the crash
Life is what happens in-between forgetting to hit save and starting from scratch
Life is what happens between agreeing that the year went by so fast
Life is what happens and all we have becomes a dash"

in "Dash"

"I can only give what I got
But all I have is what I wanna see
So you can ask for anything
But I can't share an invisible piece of me
Like a mask - the inside is the opposite face from the outside
And the tougher the skin, or the brighter the grin,
The more we shelter from the world - or maybe just from ourselves"

in "Time"

Yeah... Those are more favourite lyrics, ladies. Let's not get ridiculous, now...

In Ft. Worth all the neon's burnin' bright.
Pretty lights, red and blue.
But they'd shut down all the honky tonks tonight
And say a prayer or two,
If they only knew.

Pink Floyd- One of My Turns

Day after day, love turns grey
Like the skin of a dying man
And night after night we pretend it's all right
But I have grown older and
You have grown colder and
Nothing is very much fun any more.
And I can feel one of my turns coming on.
I feel cold as a razor blade
Tight as a tourniquet
Dry as a funeral drum

Smashing Pumpkins- Behold! the Nightmare

I've faced the fathoms in your deep
Withstood the suitors' quiet siege
Pulled down the heavens just to please you
To hold the flower I can't keep

Guns N Roses- Locomotive

If Love is blind i guess ill buy myself a cane

Guns N Roses- Estranged

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time
An now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground
And you don't talk so loud
An you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for

Well I jumped into the river too many times
to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines
'Cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves they get so high
Seems everything We've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

Guns N Roses - Coma

The last 3 minutes of the song  :hihi:

Pink Floyd- Goodbye Cruel World

Goodbye cruel world
I'm leaving you today
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye all you people
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind
Goodbye

Those are some good ones but there are many more and i could say so many more Guns songs like Catcher in the rye, rocket queen, novemberrain, civil war  : ok:

Don't count your chickens 'cause they're never gonna hatch
You can't catch a monkey with a shotgun and a sack
'Cause you're too dumb, baby
You can't see the wood for the tress
'Cause you're too slow, baby
You just couldn't get off your knees

The Stone Roses - Something's Burning

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I'm so much older than I can take
And my affection, well, it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no, no, no, no

Help me out
Yeah, you know you gotta help me out

The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

I love the lyrics to the whole song, but especially that part
