Best 70's Frontman, anyone?
«
on:
March 17, 2005, 02:28:17 AM »
If we should do a best 70's frontman, we should start with a list. Here's what I have so far of the 70's best frontmen. I'm not a 70's expert, though.
Lemmy- Motorhead
Robert Plant- Led Zeppelin
Ritchie Blackmore- Deep Purple (I know he's the guitarist)
Dio- Rainbow
David Lee Roth- Van Halen
Rob Halford- Judas Priest
Ozzy- Black Sabbath
Freddy Mercury- Queen
Geddy Lee (although Neal Peart was a huge part of the band, can't decide)-Rush
Klaus Meine-Scorpions
Steven Tyler-Aerosmith
Gene Simmons-Kiss
Bon Scott-AC/DC
I'm afraid I've left lots of people out, so help out! Also, I won't be able to watch the contest all the time because of my schedule, so declaring someone out after 15 votes or so might be needed, I don't know. But I think the 70's deserve our attention!

honestly dude u probably hijacked Ignatius' game
considering he went from 21st century, to 90's to 80's
id almost guarantee he was starting the 70's next
i hate these games cause of people's ridiculous choices, see the 90's and now how the 80's is shapin up.
but fuck it ill play anyway
u forgot Paul Stanley also on your list!

I won't do a 70's one if that's his plan. These are just some preliminary name suggestions.
And come on, you're lucky Bon Jovi lasted as long as he did. Be happy he lasted longer than DAVE MUSTAINE, for crying out loud!
And Gene Simmons is the main man of Kiss.

Walk,
What I've normally been doing is starting a nominations thread ( your preliminary name suggestions) so everybody contributes to the final list.
I've done that with the 21st century, 90's, 80's and planning to do the same with the 70's & 60's.
So yes, my plan is to carry on until this game is finally over.
Your nominations list looks good though, you can save it and posted in a few weeks when we start the 70's survivor.

Yeah, the 90's had some of the greatest music ever made that no one ever heard. Although I never saw the list, I doubt if Vark Vikernes (Burzum), Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) were part of it. The 60's, now that's so early in music history, I don't know if it would amount to much.

Yeah, Cooper should be on the list, but you're definitely wrong about the 70's being better than the 80's. Maybe for rock music.

Shouldn't the Who and the Rolling Stones be in the 60's frontman contest? I know Halford is in the 80's, but he is so great he deserves the spot.
Neil Young and Phil Mogg definitely deserve spots, as well. As for punk, well, I'm not an expert there...

Shouldn't the Who and the Rolling Stones be in the 60's frontman contest?
They both spanned the 60's and 70's, you could argue all day about when their best periods were but I think they would both qualify for the best in both eras.
Rolling Stones:
1970: Get Yer Ya Ya's Out
1971: Sticky Fingers
1972: Exile on Main Street
1973: Goats Head Soup
1976: Black and Blue
1978: Some Girls
The Who:
1970: Live at Leeds
1971: Who's Next
1973: Quadrophenia
1975: The Who By Numbers
1978: Who Are You
1979: The Kids Are Alright

And even fashion
But anyway, I think that the music of the 70s was much better than the other decade. The 70s had ABBA, Boney M
a better David Bowie (hell, he must be on the list!), a young Elton John... What's so great about the 80s for you?

I knew that, but GN'R is not a topic to discuss here in the Bad Obsession. BTW Walk mentioned that rock was better in the 70s than in the 80s so I wanted to know which non-rock bands he likes.

I'm a heavy metal type of person. Metal > rock. The 80's brought the world NWOBHM, thrash metal, death metal, black metal, a doom metal revival, and even early power metal is great (not like the cheesy stuff today). The 80's had so much musical diversity! I like bands like Slayer, Sepultura, Brocas Helm, Iron Maiden, Hellhammer, Saint Vitus, Sodom, Manowar, Judas Priest, Death, Mercyful Fate, (early) Helloween, Megadeth, Accept, Saxon, and all the other greats. I even like the odd bit of glam sometimes, like Motley Crue and Skid Row.

Skid Row was glam? I know the girls liked Bas but I never considered them glam. Especially after Slave to the Grind

Um, more Iron Maiden songs are about history than Satan. The Trooper, Montsegur, Pasendale, Alexander the Great, The Clansman, Aces High, Quest for Fire, etc. All people can relate to history, man.
And Bruce could have been the greatest fencer ever. He could have represented his country in the Olympics, but he had touring obligations for Iron Maiden. To him, fencing was just a past time, but he was one of the best. If he took it seriously, no one could beat him.
Nikki is famous for what, shooting up more heroin than anyone else? Yeah, that's a world record to be proud of!

And who cares about that?? you asked a question and I answer it, I guess some guys have the same point of view as I have, but anyhow there's nothing in the world that I would say that you can consider that people can really like watch Dickinson live than Jovi cause is just matters of likes, maybe try comparing Jovi Vs Spears then you'll win
