Having the brackets must mean something.

Effectively making it two words: 'contra band'

Contra means against, contrary, opposite, counter in many languages including english.

It means something, what? who knows? You have to ask the band.

I doubt it has anything to do with Axl - I'd hope not anyway, they should have moved beyond that like we all should have.

I remember slash saying "WE HAVE A COOL NAME FOR OUR ALBUM... WAIT AND SEE" to someone, I think a reporter for some magazine... and when I saw the CONTRA(BAND), I remember the "WAIT AND SEE" that slash said...

Didn't Slash or Duff say in one of the interviews that the name is about them, it's more or less taking a shot at the state of music today.  Because of all of the shit bands that are out there today, they are the Contra(band).

but it might also be that VR is trying to make a statement that they are a BAND? like they say all the time, this is the real shit and stuff like that...

i also think they are are trying to say that Captain P?l rock's big time and how much they wanted him (me) to be their lead singer instead of scott, but they took the best american singer they could find. when i read that i also feel they conplimented my look too  ;D

it means they are "contra"  to todays bands. they are the only true rock n roll band going. they have a sense of danger unlike anything else going on.

You aint making it up.  In the Kerrang spot, Duff said that: "an honest rock n' roll record is like smuggled goods these days".   Smuggled goods = contraband items.

As for the parentheses (contra)band - it's about them being one of the few real rock bands out there right now, like others have said.

If people wanna look at it as being against nuGNR...go ahead, but VR has better things to do!   Like a tour and a new album!   :smoking:
