Best official full concert is probably Wembley '86, although I hope they release a 70s show for DVD sometime.

Great band, they have a variety of music. Great influence to so many bands, GN'R included. Believe Axl once said that in Freddie Mercury he hadn't ever had 'a better teacher' Think its influenced GN'R trying a variety of song styles, from what songs I've heard the variety will continue on Chinese Democracy.

Did you ever see 'Will Will Rock You' the concert in Canada?

It the funniest thing ever. The crowd sucked. Freddie made comments like "they don't know the fuckin words" the band even stopped 'Jailhouse Rock' after one verse because the crowd wasn't into it.  hihi

Someone has probably said this already - I love the way their albums are named after Marx Brothers films.

In my opinion The Miracle is their worst album

I sure hope you're not ranking flash gordon above the miracle?...because that would be just wrong...

Flash Gordon was the biggest waste of money ever and this is coming from a guy who's almost obsessed with Queen I've got everything, all the albums, all the demo's even the very very very rare stuff, but imo opinion FG shouldn't even be noted in queen discography it's a disgrace...

It's the only Queen album that doesn't sound modern. If you take away 'Breakthru' and 'I want it all' the album is pretty bad, compared to the others.
I agree with you man here, Was it all worth it is my personal fave and also chinese torture, I heard somewhere that Axl was going to sing party, is that true?  nervous

Paul Rodgers has told Gary Graff of Billboard.com that he "recorded some nine songs" with QUEEN members Brian May and Roger Taylor, and that there are plans to return to the studio in October to do some more work.

Rodgers won't commit to a definite timetable, but he guesses a new album may appear "probably next year the way things are going," with a tour likely to follow.

"With QUEEN and myself, it's a very organic thing," Rodgers explains. "We're letting it sort of develop itself naturally and not pushing it or giving it any pressure. We go in, just the three of us. Roger gets on the kit, Brian gets on the guitar, I get on the acoustic guitar and piano, either/or, and then we share the bass line afterwards."

Rodgers describes the new material as "interesting" and says he's been particularly fascinated by watching May craft QUEEN's trademark harmonies. "What happens is he can hear the song line and then he can hear all the harmonies on top of it," Rodgers explains. "We can't hear them, but when we go out in the studio he tells us what line we should sing. He knows exactly what he's doing and we don't know what it's going to sound like, but when we go back into the studio and the engineer puts everything up we all go, 'Holy smokes, listen to that! So that's the genius of the harmonies."

Brian May: musician/astronomer  Cheesy

Queen guitarist wraps studies for doctorate

Reuters

Wed Jul 25, 8:43 PM ET

Brian May, the lead guitarist from rock band Queen, is close to earning his doctorate in astrophysics -- more than 35 years after quitting his studies to become a rock star.

May arrived on the island of La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands several days ago to conduct astronomical observations in support of his thesis, according to a statement by the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands.

His thesis, "Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud," is the last component of his PhD studies, and May expected to complete his work on Wednesday.

"Maybe you'd like to see the Telescope we are working in," May, 60, wrote on his Web site on Wednesday.

"Galileo ... Galileo ... how full of coincidences life is," he added, referring to the lyrics in Queen's hit song "Bohemian Rhapsody."

After submitting his thesis at Imperial College, London, he will have to wait until university assessors approve his work to be granted his PhD next year.

May was studying astrophysics at Imperial College when he formed Queen with singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor in 1970. He dropped his doctorate research into interstellar dust as the band met with increasing success.

After Mercury's AIDS-related death in 1991, May recorded several solo albums and set up the Brian May Band.

But his interest in astronomy continued, and he co-wrote "Bang! The Complete History of the Universe" with Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott, which was published last year.

Earlier this month, the writer of such Queen hits as "We Will Rock You" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" was granted an honorary doctorate from Exeter University in Devon, England.

What about "was it all worth it" or "hang on in there"? I don't think they sound dated at all...

Now if you had said that the invisible man sounds dated I could understand that  hihi

Yeah, like you said Flash Gordon sucks, so i don't count it as an album.  hihi

On October 29, 2007, Eagle Rock Entertainment will simultaneously release two incredible DVDs capturing the incomparable QUEEN in their pomp as the world's biggest band at a sold-out show in 1981 at Montreal's 18,000-seater Forum. The single 95-minute DVD is "Queen Rock Montreal", and there is a special edition double DVD "Queen Rock Montreal + Live Aid", clocking in at 138 minutes of footage. The live CD/LP from the concert is released on the same date on EMI with HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions to follow in November through Eagle.

Following their record-breaking South American tour, the Montreal shows on November 24 and 25, 1981 were to be the only concerts by QUEEN ever shot on film ? indeed they were the first group to shoot an entire show in full cinema format 35mm. These releases offer the best ever sound and picture quality on a QUEEN concert release. Always a great live band, with two years non-stop touring behind them and Freddie Mercury in front of them, QUEEN excelled themselves with the cameras rolling. The footage has been digitally restored from the original film and the sound has been newly mixed and mastered for DTS Surround Sound and PCM Stereo from the original multi-track tapes.

"Hello Montreal...long time no see. You wanna get crazy?" asks Freddie as the band tear into their alternative "fast" version of "We Will Rock You", and from there on QUEEN show their hard rock roots, slowing down only for "Love of My Life" and the more mid-tempo "Under Pressure", notably being performed live for the first time in this concert.

The real joy to be had in watching Freddie, Brian, Roger and John performing here is that, unlike any other QUEEN concert film available, this delivers raw QUEEN. This is before the "Hot Space" album, before keyboards would find a place in the band's touring line up; this is simply four musicians in total cohesion.

Originally titled "We Will Rock You", this film was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1983 ? as only QUEEN could. It was then released in North America (September 1984), becoming the first commercially available film of QUEEN in concert. For this special edition, the picture has been digitally restored from the original 35mm negative.

The double disc release offers the incredible bonus of a slew of Live Aid features and performances. Regularly polled as the greatest live performance of all time, QUEEN's mighty Live Aid show at 6:44pm on July 13, 1985, is here in full. In addition to the set that reinforced QUEEN's position as unrivalled rock entertainers, Freddie and Brian's performance later in the evening of the poignant "Is This The World We Created" is included. Also featured are 11 minutes of never before seen Live Aid rehearsal footage, plus a rehearsal interview with the band. In addition, there's the curiosity value of a 1982 news feature from U.S. TV series "PM Magazine". Brian May and Roger Taylor bring the story up to date with a brand new audio commentary on the Montreal concert.

01. Intro

From Brian May's website

Well folks ...

We had a frenetic few days ... about last Friday, we made a snap decision that we'd like to offer a track for World AIDS Day - a track which we've been enjoying in the studio ...

Those who saw Queen plus P.R. on tour last year might remember that Roger sang a contemplative little song called "Say It's Not True" in our acoustic set ...

Well, the idea came up to bring this song into the fold, as something Paul, Roger and I could put our collective stamp on .... and, in the atmosphere of 'good chemistry', the song grew rapidly into ... well, a modest Epic, I would say ! We all sing on it, it takes a new direction, and it packs a lot of surprises ...

Our intention is to give the track away completely free for World AIDS Day - which is this weekend - so suddenly we had to pull out all the stops and really complete this recording ...

So that's where I've been, this rainy night, until 6am ... down at Roger's studio, slaving over a hot mixer! I'm very excited about the way it sounds ... pretty adventurous, I think, and it has important things to say ...

So it goes to mastering this morning ... and ... should emerge .... momentarily!! It's BIG!!!

Watch this space! We haven't done this for a very long time ... but somehow the spirit of Queen has been very strong, the last few days ... and Paul has been in magnificent voice, I'm sure you will agree ... As for guitars ... they are not lacking ... I got some sore fingers along the way ... no holds barred .. Well, enough said - the track is perfectly capable of speaking for itself ....

Cheers
Bri

QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS:
A BRAND NEW RECORDING FOR FREE DOWNLOAD
ESPECIALLY FOR NELSON MANDELA?S 46664 ON WORLD AIDS DAY

Available From December 1

It has not been that closely a guarded secret that rock legends Queen and Paul Rodgers have been in the recording studio for their first sessions together following their successful world tour of 2005/2006. Indeed, both singer/songwriter and founding member of Free/Bad Company Paul Rodgers and Brian May have been quoted on their websites [www.paulrodgers.com and www.brianmay.com] as being "quietly excited" about the music that has been produced from this creative union.

Spurred on by their commitments as Ambassadors to Nelson Mandela?s 46664 HIV AIDS global campaign, on which the spotlight will fall December 1 with a World Aids Day awareness and fundraising concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers have announced they are rushing to finish a track specially written for 46664 by Roger Taylor and have it available as a free download in time for this coming Saturday?s AIDS HIV benefit concert.

The track, Taylor?s ?Say It?s Not True?, originally came to light for the launch of the 46664 campaign back in November 2003. Taylor wrote the song as a gift to Mandela and performed it live for him for the first time with Brian May and Dave Stewart at the inaugural 46664 concert in Cape Town that month. The song carries the message that HIV AIDS is something that can affect any one of us no matter our sexual or racial status.

Taylor performed an acoustic version of the song again nightly during the Queen + Paul Rodgers? 2005 tour, each time dedicating it to Mandela?s work to bring people and politicians together to fight HIV AIDS.

Having played two previous 46664 concerts, but committed in the studio this year, Queen and Paul Rodgers decided to revisit the song, with all three of them sharing the vocals, and to make the song the band?s message of support to Mandela this year.

?By making the song available for free?, says Taylor, ?we hope to help Nelson Mandela with his campaign to get across the message that no-one is safe from infection. We have to be aware, we have to protect ourselves and those we love. The song follows the line of Mr. Mandela?s personal message: it?s in our own hands to bring a stop to this.?

Queen?s last new studio recording was back in November 1997 when May, Taylor and band?s bassist John Deacon reunited to record ?No-One But You? a song written by Brian May which was shaped by the early loss of the late Freddie Mercury to AIDS. The song was the last new work to be released by the band, issued as a single in January 1998.

A video of ?Say It?s Not True? will be premiered during this Saturday?s 46664 Johannesburg World AIDS Day concert and the track available to download exclusively on www.queenonline.com and through www.46664.com www.46664global.com and www.paulrodgers.com on World Aids Day, December 1.

-----------------

The December 1st 46664 Johannesburg World AIDS Day concert will be the fifth International 46664 concert to take place since the AIDS charity was founded under the banner of Nelson Mandela?s former prison number in 2002. The Johannesburg concert is the first to be held on World AIDS Day and takes place at the 50,000 seater Ellis Park Stadium and has been made possible through the support of Joburg City.

46664 was founded in 2002 by Dave Stewart with Queen?s Brian May and Roger Taylor. Taylor and May have participated in three of the previous concerts.

The first 46664 concert, in November 2003, through radio and television coverage delivered the 46664 message to more than 2 billion people in 166 countries, the most widely distributed media event in history.

Artists appearing at this weekend?s concert include Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, Ludacris, Corinne Bailey Rae, Goo Goo Dolls, Razorlight, Jamelia together with appearances by a further fifteen acts drawn from the biggest names in South African music including Johnny Clegg, Just Jinjer, the Soweto Gospel Choir and World artist Angelique Kidjo.

Under the guidance of Nelson Mandela, 46664 is a campaign vehicle of the Nelson Mandela charitable organisations. 46664?s aim is to raise awareness of the global HIV AIDS pandemic, as well as funds to support the ongoing 46664 campaign and the HIV AIDS projects it directly supports throughout sub-Saharan Africa. 46664?s project funds develop and support practical programmes for the prevention, testing, care and support for those infected and affected by HIV AIDS in Africa.

46664 recently unveiled its 2007/2008 campaign which will build on its past achievements and expand its outreach activities to communities and schools to engage the youth most affected by HIV AIDS.

From Brian May:

SINT RESPONSE. SAY IT'S NOT TRUE

Thanks folks, for the wonderful flood of messages about our download track. I'm quite overcome. After the intensity of the last 72 hours of 'polishing' of the track, I slept for most of the next day (or tried to, through the awful noise of builders which surrounds my house every day...), so I missed most of the 'launch' moments (this is tale very familiar to me, from way back in the days of "A Night at the Opera" - and further ...) so I got a shock, a very good shock, opening my E-mail box. I'm really glad that folks have been enjoying the song and the performance and the production - and some of you are very eloquent, to the point where I got pretty moved reading the messages. I wish I could write directly back to everyone, but will you please accept our sincere thanks for the support ... it will be a real boost for our morale, when we go back in to shape what we hope will be a worthy new studio album.

Meanwhile ... enjoy !

Cheers
