As a child I was scared of the dark. Id sleep with a flashlight and leave it on or have my watch and turn the watch light on. Id leave the bathroom light on but when someone went to the bathroom and closed the door, id switch on my flashlight or my watch light.

I was also scared of swallowing the caps on my teeth, scared of swallowing my tongue, Id walk around holding my tongue. and Id walk around with my hand on my chest makin sure my heart was still beating.

I was a weird little bastard.  I was also scared of being kidnapped.

For the toilet monster to bite your dick off, u have to actually have a dick that goes below the seat. Yours is so small it stays in the shell so u were safe!

This is part of what used to scare me, i drew these a few years ago ( can't draw to save my life as you can notice lol)..

I don't make ANY sense out of them, there seems to be a language too, but i haven't got a clue..

So i don't know what is terrifying, but it does scare me, so if anyone sees sense into it...

I was always afraid of being kidnapped. When I was younger, those Dutroux kidnappings were just "main part" in the news and it happened kinda nearby. My parents always told me to look out etc so I blame them :P

Not so much from a specific movie, but I was always afraid of dolls.? I thought they would come to life during the night and attack me.? Even now, if my daughter leaves a doll lying around, I keep an eye on it.? Totally creeps me out.?

Same here. Dolls scare the shit out of me if I'm in the right frame of mind.

My mother has this huge doll from when she was a kid. It's a big plastic thing, black, and I'd say close to three feet tall. Anyway, when I was younger it used to freak me out. Like a portrait painting, it seemed the eyes would follow me around the room. And because I have five younger sisters, the doll was always out around the house somewhere, just staring at me and waiting for the right moment to attack... :nervous:

It was freaky, the doll would be left standing up against a wall, sitting in a corner, maybe even sitting on the couch! And man, I used to have to take the bloody thing and throw it in a closet or something. There was no way I could relax if it was out. Especially in the night! Because I'd usually be the last one to go bed and there was no way I was going to lie back and watch tv with that thing staring at me. Far too spooky.

Funny though how completely irrational fear can overtake you, huh?

I know exactly the kind of doll you are talking about!? When I was a kid, my friend had one of those three foot tall dolls and I was terrified of it.? If I was ever staying over at her house, I wouldn't go to sleep until it was put in the closet.? Usually with a big pile of stuff on it, for extra safety.? The eyes scared me, but so did the hands.? ?I can't explain exactly why, I was just sure they were dangerous somehow.

To me, the big dolls are the worst because they are so lifelike in their size and with their features. They're like toddlers. The little things are too small to be doing the grown up things that they do, such as walking, but they're big enough that they resemble an adult just the right amount to make them a little freaky at times. You know what I mean?

Funny though how completely irrational fear can overtake you, huh?

Yeah, with the right frame of mind and a little imagination, your mind can take you pretty far with that kind of stuff.

Pretty far in the other direction as well. For example, I just had a brief flash of what your nipples might look like if they were exposed to a frigid gust of wind.

Even as an adult I can let my imagination get the best of me.? If I'm home alone and watching a scary movie, every little sound becomes something to be concerned about.

Anyway getting back to the topic, yeah, me too. Don't get me wrong, I don't exactly freak out or anything, I just become spooked a little if I let myself get into whatever it is that I'm taking in, which could be a book, a movie, etc. But either way, it's certainly an interesting reaction.

Title: Re: your childhood fears?
Post by: MCT on April 11, 2007, 03:45:18 PM
Hang on, are you saying that toddlers are freaky?

I'm saying that toddlers can be freaky. Like if you see one waddle across a room like a malformed adult, then stop and stare at you from a distance with its inquisitive eyes, seemingly contemplating murder.

To me they're too young, too small to be walking around. Yet they do! And this creates a sort of adult air about them that makes them come off as some grotesque caricature of a fully grown person. And it's freaky, yeah. At least if you're in the right frame of mind to see it.

That's too funny!  :D

If it's properly explained, people tend to laugh. I know I didn't do a great job above, but hopefully it sheds a little light onto what I'm trying to convey.

So if I sent you a picture of my one year old daughter, that would scare you?  She's adorable!  Seriously!

Oh I'm sure she is. All children are.

Besides, the quiet confidence you exude here on the board speaks volumes to you perhaps being a little, you know, adorable yourself. So if she's anything like her mother...

And no, I'm not that shallow. I'm merely pointing out that based on observed confidence, chances are you're at least somewhat symmetrical.

I just had a brief flash of what your nipples might look like if they were exposed to a frigid gust of wind.

Oh my!  I'd say that's more than a little imagination!

Yeah, well sometimes I get a little carried away. Sorry.  :)

Anyway getting back to the topic, yeah, me too. Don't get me wrong, I don't exactly freak out or anything, I just become spooked a little if I let myself get into whatever it is that I'm taking in, which could be a book, a movie, etc. But either way, it's certainly an interesting reaction.

Isn't that what really makes a scary movie or book fun?  Getting sucked in and then a little freaked out by it?

Oh, for sure! I mean, that's the point, right? But what's interesting to me is why people get so hooked on the irrational fears propagated by the aforementioned genre. Why is that do you think?

since when has offending people bothered you?

Since I grew up a little and learned to better appreciate people for who they are rather than who I would have them be. Provided of course that they have a redeeming quality or three. No, you're not on the list.

As for the person and post in question, you'll note that I have edited accordingly.
