I was wondering if any one could name a real Masterpiece album from this decade since I can't really think of one since the 90s.

The best I can think of is With Teeth by NIN (Athought it is flawed)

What you people think?

I only have 3 albums from this decade: The Marshall mathers LP, The Eminem Show and Hybrid Theory. From out of these I like Eminem Show best. I really should get more albums released in the00's  no

Two albums instantly spring to mind: Pain of Salvation's Remedy Lane and Devin Townsend's Terria. Pure genius from start to finish!

Never heard of them, I suppose that may be the problem.

Never heard of them, I suppose that may be the problem.

You could say they both play progressive metal, though their styles are very different. Pain of Salvation I guess is more in the direction of Dream Theater (though trust me, I'm not a huge DT fan, so the bands aren't that close to each other... PoS is more melodic and soulful than DT + Daniel Gildenl?w is a better singer than James LaBrie in every single aspect). As for Devin, he's just... Devin! A great, original musician, a brilliant lyricist, and an awesome vocalist Smiley

Yeah it's true the bands aren't that popular to the average music listener, but go to a prog forum and about half the people have heard the music, and pretty much everyone has at least heard _of_ them.

Radiohead used to be called prog rock, and they were the last band I can think of to make a genre (or must have album) defining album, although that was in the 90s.

Hmmm... there are multiple candidates.

A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
Audioslave - Revelations
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
Tool - Lateralus
Green Day - American Idiot (yes, I'm serious)
Nine Inch Nails - ...And All That Could Have Been
Marilyn Manson - Holy Wood
Velvet Revolver - Contraband

All very good albums but nothing special like a "Downward Spiral", "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magick", "Appetite for Destruction", or "Ten".
VR's was good but it's not in the same class as the rest of the albums you mentioned.

On the contrary, I believe Stadium Arcadium and Pearl Jam are the best albums by the respective bands who recorded them.

Might be because nobody considers it one of the best albums of the decade?

You guys are hopeless.  rofl Here's a REAL list.

1- Slough Feg- Traveller
2- Graveland- Dawn of Iron Blades
3- The Red Chord- Fused Together In Revolving Doors
4- Agalloch- The Mantle
5- Kayo Dot- Choirs Of The Eye
6- Devourment- Butcher The Weak
7- Iron Maiden- A Matter Of Life And Death
8- Torture Squad- Pandemonium
9- Deeds Of Flesh- Reduced To Ashes
10- Slayer- Christ Illusion (I know most people in the "scene" bash it, but it kicks ass)

These are the best albums of the decade so far, but there are plenty of others that came close to making the list. Go check these out, in this order, but they're all excellent.

True, but only an idiot would take Megadeth's latest over the stuff I mentioned. Wink

The only thing greater in this world than that of Dave Mustaine will, is the will of Trent Rezzi.
