5 Overrated Bands:

1. U2- I like them and own all their albums. Great band. That said, I think they've been overexposed and put on some kind of cross.
2. Radiohead- See above, minus the religious part.
3. TOOL-Never got what people see in them. Boring as shit.
4. The Beach Boys-OK, Pet Sounds was a trailblazing album, I know, I just don't like it. Don't like any of their songs.
5. The White Stripes-Saw them a few times and own all their CDs. They're a good band, no doubt, but not the saviors of rock or anything. I like Jack White, seems like a cool guy, it's not his fault everyone at SPIN and RS blows him 24/7.

3. Mudhoney- The Stooges of the 90s/00s.
4. KISS-Yes, I know that they sold a billion albums, but Stanley and Simmons have never gotten recognition for being great songwriters. "Christine Sixteen" anyone?
5. The Dresden Dolls-You must see their show if they come to your town!

Overrated:
1.U2 Definitely agree, Never liked them at all
2.Van Halen Another band I could never get into
3. White Stripes agree with Richard, Good band but definitely WAY overrated
4. Coldplay Like a few of their songs but they aren't THAT great
5.Nirvana I love Them, I own every album and think Kurt Was a genius but still yet, they are definitely overrated.

Underrated:
1. Bon Jovi: just cause of the era they came out in and Jon's looks, they will never get the recognition they deserve as being one of the GREATEST bands of all time. The longetivity speaks for itself.

2. Kiss Their stage show overshadows what amazing music they have. Their first album alone is one of the greatest albums in rock history not to mention Destroyer, Love Gun, Creatures of The Night and Kiss Revenge is a damn great album that everyone should hear. Its one of the best rock records of the 90's.

3.Warrant: They have some great songs especially on the Dog Eat Dog album.Cherry Pie was their biggest hit but also destroyed their credibility and career.

4. Megadeth: Never understood why they werent as famous as Metallica


5. Stone Temple Pilots My personal favorite band of the Grunge Era who I think don't get the recognition they deserve as being a truly great band.

i think they get more recognition now its the "in thing" to like guns n roses, some people genuinly like them, others just pose to like them and hate any other band out of the 80s, 70s. etc. but of course, they all bum 90s shit like nirvana.

Underrated aussie bands - The Angels, Skyhooks, Australian Crawl.

The Boomtown Rats were very underrated in their day - as were the B52s.

Overrated, in no particular order:

Silverchair - started out as a good rock band, but have turned into Coldplay...
Coldplay - Don't really get what's so good about them at all. Just whiny annoying crap!
Radiohead - Again, I don't get what's so good about them.
U2 - I love Achtung Baby and Zooropa, but after that they've gone a bit bland.
Nirvana - I've grown to like some Nirvana songs, but definitely waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overhyped.


Underrated, also in no particular order:

The Screaming Jets - From the same Aussie town as Silverchair and they shit all over them!
Alice In Chains - Never mentioned much when people talk about the top bands that emerged from the grunge scene. But all of their album's/EPs are awesome.
Jerry Cantrell - Both his solo albums can easily stand alongside AIC's great albums
Anthrax (90's era) - With John Bush on vocals they were so much heavier and better than their 80's stuff

Nirvana - I see nothing special about them
STP - Almost unknown here in EU but apparently very famous in the US ?
Coldplay - U2 wannabes

Underrated :

Bon Jovi - People don't / won't / can't see past the hits and the looks to see they are great musicians with great albums (SWW, NJ, KTF, TD) and a way underrated guitarist with Richie Sambora. It's sad a lot of people don't know his solo material.

Eliott Murphy - He's overshadowed by Dylan

The Goo Goo Dolls & Stereophonics - IMO There's something about those two bands but they have yet to put out something that will prove their great.

I own all four TOOL albums and have tried to get into them...I don't know what it is, but I just don't dig 'em.

Elvis Costello - genius lyrics, amazing melodies
Kinks - Dave Davies has some of the greatest riffs in rock history
Blondie - Don't know why, I just love 'em
Sonic Youth - great, innovative guitar rock

i can agree to this. As i hated bon jovi, for many many years, thought they were pop, and fakes.

However, maybe it was blind chance, i was bored on day and thought id shove a few of there albums on (mainly so i could feel i had the right to criticise them) however, after listeneing to slippery when wet, new jersey and the awesome keep the faith i totally changed my oppinions on them, yes some songs they did are a bit lame still, but the strong tracks, ARE strong and are really good. And i agree sambora is a under rated guitar player, ithink like def leppard, bon jovi are over shadowed by there later work.

I never understood how the Eagles managed to sell 27 billion albums, or whatever it was. Every music critic and/or music snob can't mention Elvis Costello without blowing a wad, so I don't think he is underrated. Blondie are/were pretty popular and are in the RnR HOF. Sonic Youth weren't meant to be popular, they're a college/art rock band. Lauper had one good CD and that was it.

Richard, your bound to enjoy Tool alot more if you listen to an entire album the whole way through.

Listening to random songs is alright, but a Tool album is really meant to be heard in it's entirety
