Collecting MadVideos -- Guns N' Roses plays Madison in 1987

It was nearly twenty years ago that Guns N' Roses made their stadium debut in Madison, playing at the Dane County Coliseum on December 19, 1987. This show was their final in an autumn tour opening for Alice Cooper, before returning to Los Angeles for a series of six gigs leading up to New Year's 1988. General admission to the concert cost $14.50 (view a stub here), a far cry from today's inflated ticket prices.

Guns N' Roses' set consisted of ten songs drawn mostly from the six-month-old Appetite for Destruction, all of which were dutifully recorded by a fan in the crowd and preserved through the years before being published online. "Get your MTV here? Get your Headbangers Ball?" squealed Axl Rose to the crowd to start the show. "Then welcome to the fuckin' jungle Madison, Wisconsin!" This concert bootleg of their first hit follows below, and consists of ten total songs.

The rest of the set is also available for listening. These other songs performed by G N'R at the Coliseum nearly two decades past include: "It's So Easy" (here), "Mr. Brownstone" (here), "Move to the City" (here), "Used to Love Her" (here), "Sweet Child O' Mine" (here), "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (here), "Blues Jam" (here), "Out Ta Get Me" (here), and "Paradise City" (here). A reformulated version of the group is finishing up a tour of Mexico, Australia, and Japan promoting the ongoing "release" of Chinese Democracy -- no word on any return to Madison.
