Out of all to Ex Gunners who have put out solo albums.
Which one do you think is the best Album And who do you think is the best song writer.
For me my Fav album is believe in me by Duff But I think izzy has the best wrote songs, And the Snake pit albums sound great through and through.

I quite like Duff's solo album eventhough it didn't do so hot. Ive only heard a couple of Izzy's songs so I really cant judge his solo material that strongly. The snakepit albums to me were mediocre at best.

This belongs in the Ex-Gunners section.
Anyway, Slash's Snakepit produced the best album with Ain't Life Grand, a simple but kickass rock n roll record, even though Rod Jackson is one of the worst vocalists around.
But I think Izzy is the best songwriter. His latest release, On Down the Road, was a really good album.

I like Duff's unreleased 'Beautiful Disease album, and Gilby's Pawnshop Guitars. Izzy and the Ju Ju Hounds is a killer album too, so those 3 are my favourites.

Fav album: Ain't life grand - i can't understand why people hate Rod Jackson he is superb! Really powerful voice that fits the songs perfectly.
Gilby's Pawnshop Guitars and Izzy's 117 degrees are a very close joint second

DUFF PLEASE RELEASE BEAUTIFUL DISEASE! It rocks man! I think Izzy- 117 degrees is a corker! (don't know where the word corker came from!) BIM- i'm still fuckin' waitin for it to be delivered to my door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard songs from it though! It rules! I love Loaded Dark Days! Its a good album- its almost weird- sound effects! Seattlehead rocks- its just about duff really! perfect! I love others on there aswell! It a good album! Have you guysheard any other Loaded cd's? If so please review! Yeah but anyway... Izzy n' Duff are great solo-wise! Haven't heard much of the snakepit n' gilby- so seeing i haven't heard all their songs- i'm not gunner give a review on them, seeing it'll be unfair, eg. you can't rate GNR on just one song- i believe you gotta listen to every GNR song before rating!

yea old thread I know, but I didn't want to make another one. I just recently picked up Ain't Life Grand, and i gotta say, I am very impressed. I was hesitant to buy it at first because I didn't really like the first Snakepit album. This is a great album and IMO is on par with Contraband. I would take Rod Jackson over Eric dover anyday. ALG has a great mix of modern sound and classic vibe. I also came across Izzy's first solo album. It has a mixture of great songs and well, not so great songs. My favorite is "Shuffle It All", awesome song.

Slash's Snakepit's both albums are great I just bought Izzy's Ju Ju Hounds album, and kicks some ass too! Gilby is also great (Pawnshop Guitars), but I haven't really heard any Duff's solo material Just couple of songs.

I've always found "Believe In Me" to come closest to the distinguishing musical sound that makes GnR sound so great. Before I heard the album, I was all Slash 'n Axl but this one convinced me that Duff was way more important than people give him credit for. It's incredible how much influence he had on the overall sound of the GnR albums.
It's 5 o' clock somewhere is my fav ex-gunner album at the moment. I tend to shift between that one and Aint life Grand mostly.

"It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" to me is like one of the best albums ever...its just awesome...I guess like a lot of GNR fanboys I do dream about if Axl had added some singing. but at the end of the day, I still love it as is.
I also think "TJ Jail" and "Cure me or Kill Me" are awesome songs from Gilby on Pawnshop guitars (although not hugely into the whole album).
Duff's solo stuff i didn't like when i first heard it but on a relisten last year I really enjoyed it...
And I also like Adler's Appetite.....

Neurotic Outsiders is by far the best "solo" band that' is featuring people from GN'R.
And about the solo albums, Izzy, no question about it.

Couldn't agree more, it's a great fun punk rock record from start to finish. I recommend any GN'R fans to check it out, you won't be disappointed.
