Hehehehe, of course, last time was cool? ;D

Yeah, that efestivals listing is a bit weird, I mean, I can't see people like Motley Crue or Marilyn Mason agreeing to anything else than headlining, I don't know

IRON MAIDEN (June 10), LINKIN PARK (June 9) and MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE (June 8) are the first three officially confirmed bands for the Download festival, set to take place June 8-10 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, England. Other acts that are rumored (but **NOT** confirmed) to appear at this year's event include M?TLEY CR?E (who will reportedly headline the tent on June 9), SLAYER, MEGADETH, EVANESCENCE, FALL OUT BOY, WOLFMOTHER and MARILYN MANSON.

Maiden is awesome, the other 2 is a fucking joke  :-[
u should go to the download forums, funny as hell, not a single person there wanted mcr to even be at the festival let alone headlining. This sucks also coz will make decent bands think twice about going, coz how offensive is it to ask a band like megadeth or VR to play BENEATH mcr or linking park
This years headliner announcement is a dark day for Donnington  :crying:

I'm not from the UK, so I don't know a lot about this festival (except that GNR did it last year).  But, here are a few questions.

What is the point of this festival?  It combines things that are completely unrelated, like the three headliners (MCR, Linkin Park, and Maiden).  Are they just trying to get the most varied audience possible?  Do they want bands to be well received by 1/3 of the crowd and ignored/hated by the rest?  What's the vibe like?

There seems to be a decent metal representation and, for the record, let me say that I FULLY support Fall Out Boy playing at a metal festival, if only so their fans can do one of the following:

1.) Realize that FOB is inferior.
2.) Sit in the middle of a mosh pit, crying.
3.) Be eaten by black metal enthusiasts when they run out of food.

Variety is the spice of life.

Festivals are great for the atmosphere, camping out with friends, getting drunk/stoned etc.

Have 3 different headliners is a fair deal, gives everybody something they'll like.

There are 3 stages though, so there is plenty of variety giving people the chance to sample new bands and what not they'll be hundreds and plenty of stuff to do, i'm real happy Maiden are playin' as i am yet to see them live, as for the other 2 acts, a few beers should make them fun ;D.

Thing is, i would prefer that.

Main Stage sucks mcuh more, the view isn't wonderful, in the tents it is way better i much prefer it there  More up close and personal....

People complain to much, yeah there are some shit acts but there are and will be good acts to, people have different tastes, so what, My Chemical Romance headline the main stage, while they are playin' you can be at either of the other 2 tents watching other headliners, getting drunk, stoned and well, just having a good time, people would have to have a really wide array of taste to like everything.  It's only to be expected that some are the most popular bands with the kids these days, whether you like them or not are gonna be playin', bah, people complain' to much, "This is shit", "They are shit", maybe people's time would be better spent praising stuff they like, but yeah, whatever, Fall Out Boy rule, party on! :smoking:

Following the official announcement this evening on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show, IRON MAIDEN has confirmed it will be once again headlining this year's Download festival on Sunday, June 10, making this a record-breaking fourth headline appearance at the world-famous Donington Park (Leicestershire, England) venue.

The first time MAIDEN ever played at Donington was when they topped the bill in 1988, with KISS and GUNS N' ROSES among the supports, playing to over 100,000 people ? the biggest Donington crowd by far and still the biggest metal show ever in the U.K. ? returning again in 1992 and 2003.

Commented MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson: "Our fans know that Donington is a special place for MAIDEN and we are all looking forward to getting back there for a fourth time. The 'A Matter of Life and Death U.K. Tour' last December was very special for us and we very much appreciated the fans giving us such great support in us playing the whole album which, let's face it, was not necessarily the easiest thing to do for us or them! It was definitely the right challenge for us at that time but outdoors in the summer is different and as a 'thank-you' to our fans we will be including quite a few more 'classic' favorites balanced with some of the tracks from the new album. We will naturally bring Eddie and his toys along, so all in all it should be a great day for everybody!!"

Tickets will be going on sale tomorrow morning (Wednesday, January 31) at 9:00 a.m. and are available from the official web site for the festival or the credit card hotline 0870 400 0822.

Yeah, I think I'll be going. Well, in fact I've already booked a hotel in Derby just in case. Although I might end up camping, I don't know.

Anyway, if the efestivals.co.uk rumours are true (and apparently they have good sources), The Cult on Friday, Motley Crue on Saturday and Iron Maiden on Friday, plus Marilyn Mason already do it for me.

Btw, are you gonna speak more than two words to me this year?? :hihi:

"Hey, I'm Stoned"

That's more than two. :P

Although i can't remember whether i actually said that or not  :hihi:

I blame my inability to roll out doors, that forced me to roll before the day began, and every time i roll 2 i smoke 1 at least so i had to roll and smoke for a long time, so i was out of it by the time i arrived on that day haha.

But yeah, this year, i'll be a lot better.

Rather than stopping at a mate's nearby i'm pretty sure i will be camping, so yeah, it's all good...

This year's already impressive line-up is being added to - we're excited to announce that Grammy winners Wolfmother, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage and Bring Me The Horizon have just been confirmed to play Download 2007.

The mighty Wolfmother make their debut at Download this year, their performance will be one of unforgettable proportions. Meanwhile, Slayer's monumental live show will justify why this is amazingly their sixth time at Donington Park. Tom Araya of the band said ?Be prepared to enter the abyss and expect no mercy.?

Self-proclaimed ?Antichrist Superstar?, Marilyn Manson is among the most notorious and controversial entertainers of our generation. Making a return to the festival for a 2nd time (2003 being the other), he will take to the stage on the Saturday night. Manson has revealed ?I have a responsibility to make the music loud again, so that we won't hear the world coming to an end."

Killswitch Engage are one of the most important metalcore acts of the millennium. After a phenomenal Download debut in 2005, the band return due to popular demand. And to finish this week's announcement; despite only forming in March 2004, Bring Me The Horizon made their Download Festival debut in 2005. After triumphantly inciting moshers from all over Donington Park, Bring Me The Horizon return with their unique brand of deathcore. Catch their brutally energetic live show at Download this year.

More bands confirmed:

Velvet Revolver
Korn
Dragon Force
Devildriver
Lamb of God
Dimmu Borgir

SIX NEW BANDS ADDED WITH JUST 100 DAYS TO GO!

The first major festival of the season arrives in just 100 days and we are excited to announce the next six bands added to the already exceptional line-up are Korn, Velvet Revolver, Dragonforce, Devildriver, Lamb of God and Dimmu Borgir.

Korn?s Download 2006 set saw vocalists from Ten Years, DevilDriver, Skindred, Stone Sour and Trivium fill the breach when Jonathan Davis was taken ill at the eleventh hour. Determined to give the performance the fans were waiting for last year Jonathan Davis explains, "I am so looking forward to coming to the Download Festival this year. I was heartbroken to pull out last time. So this time I am very happy to be coming back and we promise to rock the place! I will definitely make-up for missing the last one. You can expect an amazing Korn show!"

Velvet Revolver lead singer Scott Weiland said - "I have to say, I'm a big proponent of "the true rock and roll extravaganza". Although I might have to add that the Download Festival might have been a better handle".

Dragonforce return for the second time with guitarist Herman Li saying ?We've had so many requests from fans asking us play to Download this year, and Dragon Force is always up for a free piss up, so there is no way we can let our fans down.  We?re really looking forward to coming back for another rampage with more songs at Download 2007!?
Hard-as-nails metallic maelstrom DevilDriver make their second appearance and Dez Fafara says ?It?s a privilege and an honour to be playing at this year?s Download.  We had such a great time last year and the excitement in the DevilDriver camp is overwhelming about playing again this year!  We are going to unleash a ferocious monster on the festival so get ready for the biggest fuckin? circle pit in history!?

Vocalist Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, returns for the second year saying ?The first time we played Download is one of my personal career highlights. To come back two years later will be even f*cking better. Britain might sink this time ? be warned?.

And last but not least Dimmu Borgir make their Donington Park debut with Silenoz announcing ?We?ve been looking forward to do this for many years and now it?s finally happening! We?re hoping the Diaboli Horde will turn up manifold in support of our first festival appearance on English soil!?

Sweet.  Well the "Big" bands have been covered now, looking forward to Maiden, Slayer (Who have been at like 3 festivals i've been to and somehow i ALWAYS miss them) and Velvet Revolver.  I'm holding out hoping Wyndorf sorts himself out and Monster Magnet get added, can't see it though, i would love to see Orange Goblin get a slot and maybe Hardcore Superstar...

...Going off the thread activity the HTGTH representation looks low this year, maybe that stoner cunt Arron can roll by again :D

Title: Re: Download Festival 2007

There are some great bands this year, but the lineup still lacks a little something for me.  They only got one of the headliners right.  I can't get over how nearly every year there's at least one headliner that totally sucks; this year there are two that suck, I don't need to name them.  I'd be over the moon if Megadeth or GN'R were to be there and book a ticket asap.  VR and Maiden would be my reasons for attending from what they've announced so far, with Slayer being a nice bonus.

And some more bands confirmed:

93 DAYS TO GO: MORE LEGENDS AND NEWCOMERS ADDED TO DOWNLOAD 2007

The countdown continues to the first major festival of the season and with 93 days to go Download Festival is thrilled to announce the addition of seven more bands ranging from legendary status to the cream of the new breed.

EVANESCENCE make their 2nd appearance at this years Festival. Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, compelling lyrics, poignant piano and stunning vocals, fused with Terry Balsamo's urgent, yet intricate guitar, form a seamless, ethereal mixture that perfectly channels Evanescence?s hard rock and classical sensibilities.

As one of the most influential bands of the '80s, MOTLEY CRUE return to Donington Park for the third time, although this will be the first time for 17 years. The original line of Nikki Six, Vince Neil, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee are guaranteed to bring the flamboyance and raw power to the stage that has won them so many fans over the years.

Tipped for big things in 2007, GALLOWS have captured the imaginations of rock/indie critics alike, never straying from their hardcore roots. Bassist Stuart Dili-Ross enthused "Playing Download is a really big deal for us! Download and Donington are like legendary historical events and its insane to be involved, rather than just going and partying and watching bands like we were a couple of years ago. Cant f**ing wait".

This will be 30 SECONDS TO MARS? Donington debut. Jared Leto (vocals and guitar) and his brother, Shannon, set up the band as a small family project, things started rolling pretty quickly and before they knew it there was a massive demand for their self-titled debut album. Their second album, A Beautiful Lie, debuted in the US Billboard chart top 40 and has sold around a million copies.

ENTER SHIKARI made their Download festival debut in 2006. Tipped by the BBC as ?The sound of 2007?, and ?Ones To Watch in 2007? by numerous areas of the media. Lead singer Rou said ?Download is going to be mega! To play it is out of this world. I'm gonna to do 10 Barbara Windsor?s before I go on stage and then clout Chris Batten (bass) in his trout claspers. That will put him out of action for the weekend. Killer."

This is the 3rd time MACHINE HEAD will make an appearance at Donington Park, their last triumphant performance in 2004 saw them voted Band Of The Day on the official Download Festival website. Guitarist Phil Demmel said, ?Machine Head is totally stoked to get back to Download. Download 2004 was the highlight of my musical career so far, so we look forward to increasing on that. The UK rocks... And Download rules!!?

BOWLING FOR SOUP return to Download for their 3rd appearance after a hiatus in 2006. Jeret Reddick said ?We couldn't be more excited about our return to Download... the caliber of the bands and the diversity of the music and music fans makes it one of the best weekends ever... not to mention there is free beer if you play and the occasional sandwich, which would be reason enough to play, even if they didn't pay us... now all I have to do is try and be sober enough to remember seeing Slayer!!!?

as far as I know - only glastonbury is the festival with tickets that have your name (and photo now) on them.  you should be fine with this ticket.  unless they are a certain type of guest/VIP ticket that is only given to people not to sell on and prints their name on for that reason.... but these get sold on anyway and I dont think names get checked...

And the stages have been sent, great news, while Linkin Park stink up the Main Stage, Motley Crue headline the 2nd Stage, which is better anyway, i love the 2nd and 3rd stages, much more up close and personal!

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR SO DESERVE TO BE THERE!

buckcherry, now hardcore, looks like the new rock/sleaze scene is finally getting some attention.

So... Stoned.... since the friends I'm going with can only make it Sunday, if I decide to go for the whole weekend on my own, will you take care of me?? :hihi:
Course, you know me, sensible, reserved, professional, wise, they don't call me Hammy "Take Care" Stoned for nothing..... ;)

i saw buckcherry at nottingham. they were ok but didnt blow me away like other bands ive seen live. comapred to youtube videos there performance was average, not top like usual. guess they didnt like UK crowds.

hardcore will come round again. they annoyed me though they did a full uk tour to everywhere but the midlands. Thats just gay.

There's the final line-up give or take the odd late addition.

With just under 4 weeks remaining until Download 2007 finally arrives, individual day tickets will go on sale on Monday 14th May at 9:00am. These tickets are strictly limited and priced at ?60 each, demand for these is sure to exceed availability.

Please note, we have already released the final batch of camping tickets. These are only available to weekend ticket holders, these have been selling at a phenomenal rate and any weekend ticket holder who has yet to buy camping is recommended to act swiftly. Don't forget you can also book security lockers, these are available to all festival goers for ?6.

Meanwhile, Parking Passes for this years festival cost ?6 in advance or ?10 on the day. We really want festival-goers to car pool and use public transport as much as possible, to cut fuel emissions .

SUICIDAL FUCKING TENDENCIES ARE THERE?

Jesus. Hope they do a small tour beforehand in the UK. I have been aching to see them for years and years and years.

Apart from that...

Maiden
Killswitch
Velvet Revolver
Turbonegro
Orange Goblin
Machinehead
Slayer
Lamb Of God
Evanescence ( for one reason only)

They would be the ones id check out. And ive seen three of them bad boys. Velvet, Turbonegro and Orange Goblin.

As I was looking at the Sunday schedule at this huge billboard and a security guy asks me who I'm looking forward to seeing.

I answered "GN'R" and then he proceeds to ask me if I'm German!

I told him that I wasn't and then he added I should switch to be a British citizen.....

And no I didn't wear any uniform that might've fooled him!  :P

Download was great Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Velvet Revolver & Orange Goblin were all on top form!  Studio wise Revolver have never really impressed me but live they really do excel, even then new songs which i did not recognise sounded very good.  As for Crue & Maiden it was great to see them both for the first time, both had solid setlists and it was good having Crue on the 2nd stage, made it much more up close and personal..

Damone, Wolfmother, Dragonforce, Satelitte Party, Megadeth, Bowling For Soup were also a lot of fun, the only low point (beside by hangover on Sunday...) was Hardcore Superstar not showing up   Their damn coach fucked up in Germany or something....

As for the person wanting to go, yeah you should it's a great time, wonderful experience, great atmosphere and generally you will like at least a few of the headliners and on the other stages you get the chance to experience plenty of new bands, this was my 4th Download and i have loved 'em all.

Over the years they have had Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Black Sabbath, Iggy Pop, Motley Crue.  They always pull out some very good acts and normally when there is an act on one stage you don't like you still have two other stages to view as well as a beer tent! ;D

A few notes on Download 2007:

My highlights, musically speaking were Velvet Revolver, Motley Crue and Iron Maiden, even if I had already seen all three bands before. Iron Maiden were huge, and a perfect ending for the weekend. Anyone knows where to download the gig? Being at the front, a little girl like me, you don?t see that much really. I was busy trying to avoid getting kick on the legs, with no much success too? Still fun though.

Orange Goblin were the loudest gig I?ve ever been too. And I?ve been to a fair amount of them. Granted I?m yet to see Motorhead? They toned it down a bit later, but the first 15 minutes were pretty intense. Maybe it was the place where we were standing, right in front of the left speakers, I don?t know, but my whole body was shaking and my heart was pounding so hard that I really thought I would have to get out. I survived.

Big shame Hardcore Superstar didn?t make it. I was also sorry to miss Marilyn Mason, but we wanted to get to the front for Motley Crue on the Dimebag Stage so we decided to give Marilyn a miss. But instead we got to see Satellite Party which was fun, much better than I was expecting.

A funny thing about My Chemical Romance (no, not that? ;) ) I read on the Download myspace I think it was, that the organisers asked them to finish earlier (they were done by 10 pm? ??? ) in order to avoid a clash with Korn fans, since Korn were still playing on the second stage.

We caught the end of Suicidal Tendencies on the third stage. This is a band that I had never really bothered about before, even if a have one of their cd?s lying around somewhere, but they did a really cool thing asking fans to get on stage with them at the end of their set.

Evanescence and Within Temptation?. Hmmm? no, I can?t get into them. Besides, I?m not into women, so I don?t have that special ?reason? to go see them.

Of all the unknown bands we saw, Damone was the best one for me:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2849097

For those people thinking about going, I?ll say definitely go for it. As Stoned said there?s bound to be at least a few bands you?ll like, and it?s not only the music, it?s the whole weekend experience, the whole atmosphere. Yes, Donington will always be a very special place for me.

Three days of beer, Jack Daniels and Rock N?Roll. Weird, it feels like it was only like a couple of hours?

And, as a wise man once said: ?You know you are drunk when you find yourself dancing to My Chemical Romance??

Nope even the empty ones can hurt a bit, the ones with some liquid left in can really hurt, ive been on the recieving end of a few, and seen many other fall to the ground in pain at a heavier one.

Napalm fucking rule.
Did they play "Die"?

Epic track.

They were better when Lee Dorrain was lead singer in the eighties. Of course, he went onto bigger and doomier things.

Saturday - Black Label Society/ AC/DC
Sunday - WASP

Oh and Jarmo, i have seen Timberlake live as well in my quest to take in a varied and ecclectic plethora of musical dimensions. And his live show, although not my particular cup of tea music wise, well, its really good.  :-[

I had never heard of Orange Goblin, until they were brought up in this thread.  But their clips on last.fm sound pretty good.

Seen em twice. Once in Rock City basement in Nottingham. I couldnt hear for 2 days afterwards.
One in The Purple Turtle in Camden.
Amazing, Amazing live show.

Check out Coup De Grace and Thieving From The House Of God. Two of my fave albums ever!

Just listened to The Big Black, and I'm really diggin' their stuff!  Most stoner stuff (metal or rock) doesn't do it for me.  Could never get into Electric Wizard, for example, but this is right up my alley!

Electric Wizard are more sludge han stoner. Sound a lot grimier and less melodic. With that being said...i like them!

Everyone should enjoy stoner.

Great album, the track Scorpionica is one of my fave songs of all time, classic!

Back to the bands for Download next year, Silvertide, Sebastian Bach and a reformed (i can but hope) Ugly Kid Joe, they'd be cool additions to.

You need a special permit if you wanna go see them.

No, just trying to figure out in which sense Poison are funny.

Personally I think The Ramones were a fun band with catchy songs. But in a good way.

Poison is a band with some catchy songs but they're funny for the other reason.

But then again, I think many would say Justin Timberlake has catchy songs too....... And Kylie.

/jarmo

I agree, both in terms of sound and image.  But I think if you look at that scene, you see that there really is a great variety in the music, if not the image.  GNR's sleazy rock, Motley's metal-tinged rock, Poison's glam-pop, Cinderella has a strong blues influence...they're all quite distinct (though there are a number of bands doing it each different way).  So I can certainly see why, in terms of sound, one wouldn't have to be fans of all those bands.  If you're a fan due to some image...well, in my opinion that's just not a worthwhile reason to be a fan, as the current state of the music industry illustrates far too well.

EDIT: By the way, I've seen both Poison and Cinderella on multiple occasions (hell, Poison tours every summer, and it's a cheap ticket!).  Cinderella put on a great live show, and Tom Kiefer's still got a good set of pipes.

Title: Re: Download Festival 2007

For me it wasn't an image thing.

When I got into GN'R I didn't know about the other bands, but then as I got into GN'R and music in general, all these other bands' names started popping up and you saw them on Headbanger's Ball.

I never got into the others just because they were from the same scene. GN'R was just ahead of them all.

Still are.

Instead of listening to bands like Poison, Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue and so on, I went back in time and started listening to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols...

Title: Re: Download Festival 2007

I started listening to GNR after they played FarmAid, but didn't really start listening to their LA Strip contemporaries too much until the last 8 or 9 years.  I think the overwhelmingly low quality of popular music drove me to look for older stuff, both from that scene and from what would generally be referred to as "classic rock."  Of course, the internet has made it much easier to seperate the quality music from the junk, so I'm not quite as disappointed with modern music (though I'm overwhelmingly disappointed with big industry music).  One listen to Gov't Mule should convince anyone that there are still talented people making great music, if you know where to look.

It seems more likely that a GN'R fan listens to Poison than Mark Lanegan.

oh ok then

ABBA was a Swedish pop music group active from 1972 until 1982. The quartet topped charts worldwide from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. They remain a fixture of radio playlists and continue to sell albums. The group has reportedly sold more than 370 million records.

ABBA was the first pop group from mainland Europe to enjoy consistent success in the charts of the Anglophonic world (mainly the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Republic of Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand), and its enormous popularity subsequently opened the doors for other Continental European acts.
