LAS VEGAS (AP) - A three-alarm fire broke out Friday on the roof of the Monte Carlo hotel-casino, sending plumes of black smoke above the Las Vegas Strip.

City and county firefighters responded to the fire, which was reported at about 11 a.m., said fire spokesman Tim Szymanski.

MGM Mirage, the casino's owner, had no immediate information about the blaze.

Ah shit, hope everybody gets out ok.

Edit: just checked out CNN, looks like they contained it very well and zero injuries.

Impressive.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- Guests and visitors were being evacuated Friday from the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas as a fire raged on the top four floors and roof of the south tower.

Firefighters could be seen on the roof of the hotel.

The fire department said there are no reports of any injuries.

Black smoke was billowing into the air and was visible from more than a mile away, CNN producer Darian Billington said.

He said traffic was backed up on the Strip, and crowds of people were gathering to watch the blaze.

The hotel has more than 3,000 rooms, including 211 penthouse suites, and conference rooms.

The more expensive rooms are on the top floors.

The hotel was built in 1996 for $344 million. It is in the heart of the resort corridor.

The Monte Carlo, a subsidiary of MGM Mirage, has about 3,000 employees.

In 1980, a fire across the street at the MGM Grand Hotel, now Ballys, killed 84 people and injured nearly 700.

all scenariis are possible :

insurance fraud, arson, mafia threat, accident, cover up for theft.....

that's what's great with casinos...

At least no one was injured...

I had guessed, people get ever so stupid when it comes to money, they'd rather save money than people or their own lifes.
