Well, on a scale of 1 to 10, I give them an 87, in all categories. I mean, in every aspect, the band blows me away so much more than the old band did.

Gotta say I am not a fan of the little kids on this board... anyways.

I saw the new band live and well they just weren't that great. Sure it was a wicked concert for ME, because I love the shit out of them. But for an innocent concert goer, it is probably long forgotten.

I have seen probably 30 high profile concerts (ala Rolling Stones, U2, Ozzy, AC/DC) and this show probably was somewhere in the mid range. Nothing special really. It was so unspecial I didn't continue to follow the band to Idaho after Vancouver and Tacoma.

I will never travel again to see them. So as far as my ratings go. I'll be generous and give them a 6/10.

god, so cuz finck is not in NIN anymore, he should be more like slash when he is in GNR? maybe finck was like that BEFORE NIN? though about that?
i love nin, i think therre are quite som GNR fans that do..... so there would be some of the same fans....

From Metal-Sludge.com

Finck was in an glam band called Bat Your Lashes from Atlanta in the 1980's before joining NIN (Hes on the far right).
Im not saying Finck should start dressing like Slash did in the 80's/90's etc. I just think looking more like a Rn'R player, rather than the NIN style goth player would look way cooler.

he doesn't look like a goth - closest to a goth was RIR and that was no way a goth.

and he doesn't look anything like he did in NIN.

so what are you talking about?

back on topic....saw them live....they kick ass and i wish Axl would sort his shit out and get these guys back on the road doing their own stuff.

ok, just an idea like that. what about rating the new band and give your own point of vue? (good things, bad things)
I begin:

- Musical skills: 9/10
- sound: 9/10
- creativity: 9/10
- stage performance: 8/10

- charisma: 3/10
- looks/image: 2/10
- band members cohesion: 4/10
- feeling: 3/10 (thanks Fortus, without him I would put 2/10)

I like the new band. They are good live, and I look forward to seeing what influence the new members have had on the music

The new band have hardly given us enough evidence to rate them on - a failed tour, a handful of new songs of which at least half of them won't be on the album.....

What i have seen i have liked but i think opinions need to wait untill we see a bit more of em....

i know i'm biased - i never got to see the old band, and the new band, i saw in NY at msg, which based on what i've read was possibly their best performance. i thought they were great that night. axl's voice was strong and the sound was great. i've seen some bootlegs that were underwhelming (to different amounts), but the show i saw blew me away, espescially for a large scale show. it was on par with the best i've seen from Aerosmith and other bands i really love live, and the playing was tight.

i don't care what the band looks like. in fact, i think it's interesting how different the players look. if it all takes off the way we hope, i don't think that'll matter. the talent will make anything they do cool. comparing this band to the old band is pointless... all that really matters is how they compare to other bands today, and honestly i think they're probably the best most talented band in the world right now. i've heard that from a lot of people -people who didn't think they would say it before they were convinced, which i what i hope they can do with consistency (showing up, in all ways).
of course... they will ultimately be judged by chinese democracy.

I love the new Guns N' Roses.  I've seen them live 4 times (HOB, 2 shows at the Hard Rock, and at MSG)  They band and the crowd produced incredible energy at all of these shows...  The 29th show was hampered by technical problems but hey... we got to see Axl and Robin get really pissed!  hehehe  Anyway I give this band live a 10.  I really don't care how scientifically accurate or possible that is.  Its how I feel.  And that is what the live experience is about - feeling / energy / emotion, etc.

First of all the band is rockin'.  And whoah - their cohesion (as the orig poster put it) has continued to strengthen since the HOB to MSG.  Even at the Hard Rock shows you could hear that they had benefited from the year's time prior - they were tight.  By MSG...  they had enough strentgh between the eight of them to command the packed arena at will.  They have an energy between themselves on stage - they pass it on to the audience and likewise feed off the audience.

Ya know - you don't have to be holding your girl's hand or otherwise touching her or be gazing into her eyes every minute you are with her for you and her to have a bond.  Its like that.  So long as you are comfortable together and move in unison... in tune with eachother as it were - then you have chemistry... you have oneness... you are a couple.  So it is with this band.  They play off of eachother.  And Axl is totally into the band's playing as he performs.  And so are the crowds I've seen.  Its a kick ass rockin' time.

As far as their looks - Yes they are individual.  They each have their own look.  And their looks do change.  Axl had one style at HOB and Rio and another at the Joint and yet another for the 2002 tours.  This is really no different from how he's always been.  Always changing his style.  Leather... Jeans.. spandex... a chest protector??? hehehe  Assless chaps...  Versace suit jacket.   Um velvet hot pants...  Bare chest / tshirts / sports jerseys / baggy pans...  Beard / clean shaven...   Glam...  casual..   Its all good.  Whatever he feels like - its really his personal choice and I THINK we could rather appreciate that he is sharing yet another aspect of his self with us.

Same for all the guys.  They are just like you or I.  We wanna express ourselves in our style.  Even if its just how we feel at that time. I personally think that it is very cool that they are maintaining their own personal preferences and not opting as a group to go for some type of coordinated/manufactured look.  Thhat would be soooooooo lame.  Finck is who he is how he is and I think he is beautiful.  Tommy has HIS own style.  Matter of fact Tommy has shown us a FEW different styles.  Check out the pics from his touring with the Figgs on this one as well please.  Tommy is cool as hell and I really think he is a lot of fun.
Buckethead is well.. he's Buckethead.  The character he has created is a lot of fun - and uh... YES is far out of left field!  He is like a superhero action figure cartoon character from a classic b rated cheesy yet tasty fun flick.  Its a artistic science fiction/paranormal kung-fu fantasy of sorts.  And oh yeah - this amazing guitar player in a mask and KFC Buket.  C'mon! how fucking cool is that!  As for Dizzy - he looks like umm...  Dizzy!  Long haired head banging Keyboard player.   Chris pittman is on the other hand always changing.  How'd you all like his s&m outfit from Rio?  Brain also has his own thing going on there behind the drums...  a more urban casual look.   I picure Brain walking off the stage and going home and plopping himself down on the couch just like that.  All Comfy.  Smiley
As for Fortus - he has yet another style..   a more traditional rock n roll type.
Again its all good and I love this band.  Can't wait to see them again.

And I can't wait to hear their music... I don't think we can even begin to imagine what they are capable of.  They have such diverse backgrounds and influences it can only enrich the band and provide a wide spectrum for fans of all sorts of music to identify with.

Eva, your posts are long  Cheesy but I like what you said here:

Always changing his style.  Leather... Jeans.. spandex... a chest protector??? hehehe  Assless chaps...  Versace suit jacket.   Um velvet hot pants...  Bare chest / tshirts / sports jerseys / baggy pans...  Beard / clean shaven...   Glam...  casual..

People (including me) do bitch about the look of the band. But as you pointed out, it is always changing. We just all have our "favorite Axl" if you know what I mean.   Cool

You are lucky to have seen GNR so many times.

I have seen the new line up play live at London Arean/England 2002. It was a great experience, hearing the new songs, hearing the old songs, seeing Axl, seeing Buckethead (the new star of GN`R) and Robin F. was also great. If anything, the new drummer is possibly the best of the GN`R drummers. At the end of the day, the band showed up, there were no sound issues  Wink ...i wasn`t so sure about the film footage at the start. It was a great night out  Smiley 08/10

The only thing missing were 2 songs i love to bits, Double Talkin Jive and Estranged. Oh well, i guess i can`t have everything  no

I have seen the 2nd line up (Matt Sorum on Drums) on 30th May 1993 at The National Bowl/Milton Keynes/England for the Use Your Illusion tour, and that was amazing. It was held out side, 1000`s of people were there, there were 3 warm up bands (including Blind Melon  Cheesy ) to see before GN`R showed up. They flew over the crowd in a helicopter before appearing on stage (how rock n`roll is that  Grin ) . I have to say, i`d give this show 10/10 - Axl was running around the stage non stop, Slash was bang on, the whole band were in a good mood and on top form, oh and Ronney Wood from the Rolling Stones was in the audience, he was called up onto the stage, handed a guitar and joined in the fun  Cheesy ...mind you, the following morning i kinda couldn`t move, i simply rolled out of bed, i was f*cked as a result of being somewhat crushed while being in the audience. For anyone who hasn`t been to a live gig like this one, your missing out. People were passing out all around. Surreal!

Have u even seen the new band live?

You have no clue what you are talking about.

Its called an opinion - suprisingly some people might not have the same one as you.

Stage - 6/7 - Fortus and Axl are cool. But Buckethead doesnt move at all (ok mabye it is his style, but still). And theres no Slash style legging around from any of the players - seems as if they are a bit worried about stealing the stage Axl mabye.

Sound - 8/9 - Lets face it these guys are pretty damn tight, apart from the odd bugger up, which is expected.

Image - 4/5 - When you think of Gn'R you think rock n roll, living on the streets raw - so the new band and Buckethead/Finck damage that pretty badly, to me they look a bit out of place, especially when most of the people coming to the shows are wanting to see the old songs, mabye on a proper CD tour playing 2/3 new stuff it will fit more, but for now i feel Fortus/Stinson fit in but the rest (including Axl with his American football shirts) dont really.

and yes I have seen them live.

Yea i think that the entire band should change there style grow mullets and maybe bucket head could wear a top hat. This is a tottaly diferent band. Styles change Axl has changed musicaly and fashion wise

Im  just curious for all the people bitch about how BH does move around on stage, first off that is his gimmick, its funny only certain gnr fans have a problem with this, primus fans dont, and neither do BH fans, go figure.

2nd you do know that izzy NEVER moved around on stage and i never hear anyone bitch about how he didnt move around on stage.

3rd image. What is wrong with the bands imagine? I never heard any gnr fan cry when gnr was in their glam days, hell look at axl and the band in the wttj vid or at the ritz show.
I also think axl looks much better in those hockey jersys than that spandex.

Dude, that's because GNR had one of the best images in music back in those days.  They looked badass.  And no, I wouldn't want to see Axl running around in spandex today.  He's 40 years old.  He shouldn't be dressing like a Korn reject, either.  He's 40.  Not 20, or even 30.

Quote
All that matters is how they play and sound, and that is where they blow the other band away.

They blow the old band away at playing the old bands songs?  I certainly don't think so.  But even if they did, who cares?  The old band produced some of rock and roll's classic songs.  I have yet to see what the new band produces (aside from CD, Madagascar, Blues, Silkworms--none of which impress me too much).

This band will never be judged on what they do with the old material, nor they shouldn't.  It's time they do something on their own.  Until then, let's quit making assinine statements about how much better the new band is.
