From what I have heard Velvet1223 has an awesome collection of material, apparently he was an employee of MTV. He has a ton of material that has never been aired. Does anyone know anything about him, is he legit, any one seen clips etc...

He wants ?1000.00 for the masters. Just thinking, I know buying material is strictly against board rules, but got thinking on how we could contribute to get hold of this material and share.

As an idea we could set up a charity page on the internet which could take donations to the cause.  : ok:       Not necessarily putting myself forward to administrate the whole process, maybe a collective of a few members could manage the project.

Hope this doesnt go against board rules as I respect the service it provides. If however it does feel free to delete the whole thing....

Personally, I really hope the mods don't lock this. It seems only fair that when trades can't get the material, monetary market forces should be allowed to get the job done. Thus, I hope someone is able to run with this - and I'll be willing to donate a not insubstantial sum.

Well, BTD is right in a sense that precautions should be taken. An escrow service, such as eBay recommended escrow.com, should be used. Personally, I won't donate if the parties won't agree to an escrow (at our expense).

But, whatever, we'll have to see if he actually has the stuff first.

first we have to be sure that he's really gonna sell us sth. then we should determine what dvd it should be. and then who is going to collect the money and send it to him

i dealt with scott a lot 5 months ago..the stuff i got from him was top notch quality....stuff liek axl and tom petty at the mtv awards 1989 and the band playing youre crazy and used to love her on some talk show in 1988, etc.....so i am sure he has this stuff

I can tell you he's legit guys, I have seen the screeshots of a hell of a lot of his stuff about a year ago. He has sooo much stuff. Are you sure he's selling the masters for $1000? Were did u hear that? All i know is he's like a 'professional' trader or something, guns N' Roses is just one of the bands he has rare stuff of. He told me once he does this for a living, but i dunno. I also heard that he was in contact with John M, not sure what happened or if anything was traded or bought though.

If it?s shared or traded, sure I will try to get it. Buy some tape from a taper, sure I have done that. For normal prizes. But for that amount of money? Nah thanks. Granted I just saw some of the screen shots myself over at CD and I admit my curiousity but you made a post here asking for someone else to make the actual plan which kind of doesn't make sense to me.

You want to give a guy 1000 dollar for some old recording. Don't you think that's absurd. Even if 500 people donate 2 dollar each it still is absurd. What has to be on the tape to make it worth 1000 dollar.

Actually he does have the stuff he claims to have (and more) and so do some others, but that won't be making the rounds through them.  I have spoke to the dude on the phone and he really is about business.  So money is the only way you are going to get anything out of him, or the Vegas Pro Shot show.

I wish you wouldn't have made this thread about the guy.  He's a business man and that's respectable.  I'm talking to him now, trying to negotiate and want this to be a smoot process.  I'd appreciate if we'd hold any negative comments or anything of the like until both parties (the fans and Velvet) are completely satisfied.  There's no need for it in this or any other situation.

the cbgb's excist because i was selling on ebay and scott bought some shows,we started talking and he told me about his job and the access he had.so we traded.he doesnt have alot of stuff but he has a few goodies.he has some rare uncut interviews but the cool stuff is the 88 ritz rehearsals with axl!!!  the 02 vma rehearsals which would be cool..$1000 for everything?  who sends first? i would help out with a couple hundred.

This is a serious question. Maybe I'm naive, but what is so freakin' great about the VHA rehearsals? Why does anyone want it? Do they play a bunch of songs that they don't typically play live or something. Because, the 2002 VMAs sucked, so I can't believe the reheasal would be all that better.

by rehearsal i would imagine soundcheck.  I'm pretty sure any kind of rehearsal for the ritz was done at the limelight 2 nights earlier (Axl says "it's nice of you all to come to rehearsal"). 

Its a 35 minute tape of the rehearsal - Jungle-Maddy-PC - and they run through it a bunch of times.  Axl must go off bitching in the middle of it and it's pretty classic from what I'm told.  I just don't know if it's worth 1500 bucks(?).

I've been talking to him and negotiating for the VMA's.  The last offer he had was $1500 for them and he declined, but regrets doing so.  I'm trying to get as much bang for our buck as possible, but will continute to post updates on the situation.

Thanks for all your help anybody who is trying to negotiate. I was going through old e-mails and he also has Headbangers ball uncut with all the takes and people talking when the cameras are 'off'. He says it runs approx. 30 mins.

God its a shame this guy isn't a generous person. But i have a feeling that even if no one trades him anything or buys anything from him, he's not even gonna release it all a few years down the line. He'll just keep it all to himself.

I've been in negotiations with him.  It's a slow, two PM message per day process, but we're working on it.

$3000 will buy his ENTIRE collection.  Interviews, Rehearsals, etc... I asked for an itemized list of eactly what he has that we'd be getting for the money.  I'll keep you updated.

We started out at $1000 then $1500, now it's $3000? Forget it. I ain't paying a penny for a 15 year old material. He knows you desperately want this stuff so he's tring to stick it to ya'.  Have fun spending your money.

I won't spend $3000 on a collection.  I didn't spend $3000 on over 310 concerts of audio and 30some video... there's no way I'm putting it up for less than 3 hours worth of material. 

For 1500 for the entire collection, I'll talk.  But I'd expect to make some of that money back through contributions from other fans before it gets shared.... its just too much money.

It's not just VMA's.. its VMA, Ritz 88 rehearsal, interviews, other proshot material, etc.  I dont have his list yet, but he's compiling it for me. 

But his list consists of only MTV obtained footage, correct?

Hence nothing new because the only recent appearance on MTV was Axl the other day. 

So unless he has like 21672762137627 hours worth of super-rare footage I can't even imagine forking over this kind of money for it. 

I have a lot of stuff of GNR off MTV in a box somewhere of my old videotapes from the 1980s to early 90s.  I can only assume he has some of this same stuff, including extra rehearsal videos etc....

If it actually aired on MTV at some time it isn't really rare, so I am curious as to see what kind of footage he comes up with-

Strange. He worked for MTV, so the stuff he wants to sell technically still belongs to MTV. If I stole some stuff from the company I work for and tried to sell it, I think I could end up in jail.

to me the holy grail of rare GNR stuff is the Appetite and Illusion DEMOS and we have all of those..........next is pro shots dvds and good sounding CDS..those are available...........this guy has NONE of these things.........i say 50 bucks and thats it

Can you tell me what song they rehearsed at this session? Axl states that the medley was last minute, so perhaps they were planning on performing something else?

Well, he sells shows which is not good. I mean if he does indeed have all this 'good' stuff then fine sell it for a fair price to make a quick bob or two.

But $3000, thats ridiculous and so is even ?1500. I'd say prob $500 maximum depending on how rare and if this material is even decent enough.
