Following Ignatus and Sakib's examples i was wondering if there is any interest in doing this?

EDIT: You nominate your picks for the 20 greatest songs of all time (list the artist too) and then we vote them off one at a time.

What do you think?

and also only one song from each band. so you can't list the whole afd tracklist you can only nominate 1 gnr song. or should we do GnR & VR?

Also i don't think cover songs should be allowed, only originals.

changed my mind for the format

just nominate up to 20 of your all-time favorite songs and we vote one off at a time after like 2 or 3 weeks of nominations or something. is that a better idea instead of by decade? (prolly won't take as long and will provide us with a more realistic outcome since I'm sure you could pick 2 songs from the 70's (eg, stairway to heaven and wish you were here) and both would be wayyy better than anything current)

actually i think that is a better idea. lets do that. Nominate up to 20 of the greatest songs ever (Is 20 too much? how about 15? 10? or too little...25?)

*background*
See i made this CD of songs from the 70's and I thought it was pretty cool then i thought of the frontman survivor thread and thought it would be neat to see what song is voted the "greatest of all-time" by a general consensus

Don't include GnR or VR or anything, it'd be obvious that one of them would win and there would be no point in doing it in the first place, so with that in mind this is my pick for top 20 in no particular order

John Lennon - Imagine
The Beatles - Hey Jude
Thin Lizzy - Waitin for An Alibi
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Jethro Tull - Teacher
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
Pink Floyd - Breathe
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
Eric Clapton - Layla
Bob Dylan - Blowin in The Wind
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Elvis Presley - Heartbreak Hotel
The Strokes - Last Night
Bob Marley - Redemption Song
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet
Rolling Stones - Angie

Neemo, I think 20 songs is too much and too general. If we have to think of every song song we like we may miss a few if we just post 20 songs right away.

I think this should be done by decades as the other survivor. Instead of posting 10 songs per decade, we could post 5 favorite songs per decade so we could focus more. Starting with the 21st century...this way it's not gonna take as long as the frontman survivor. Also, cut down the threads from 3 weeks to 4-5 days. Otherwise Chinese Democracy may come out before we finish this  Wink

Just my two cents.

Just my two cents.

Cool thanks for the suggestions Ignatus. much appreciated cuz you've been down this road before

I only said all time cuz i don't think it's fair if a song like "Hand that Feeds" by "NIN" is in the Final 5 instead of a song like "Stairway to Heaven" or "Wish You Were Here" (which are both 70's songs), of course that's just my own opinion. does anyone have suggestions on how to remedy that problem? is maybe the 10 greatest songs of all time a better idea than 20?

and i said 3 weeks just cuz 20 songs is alot. but if we do decide to have greatest songs by decade then yeah you are right 1 week max for nominating and voting. What is the general consensus people? by decade or a list of your top 10 tunes of all time, then vote one off at a time until the Greatest song ever is determined? I need more input!!!!!

I agree with Ignatius. To poll the 'Greatest Song Of All Time', we'd have to go through a LOT of songs. It would be easier to focus on a few songs per decade for the past couple of decades and then put those together, somewhat along the lines of the 'frontman survivor'.  Smiley

Neemo, If you gonna do this, I suggest you start another thread in a few days. Post the rules and let it go.

People don't really know if they have to post the songs now or whether this thread is only to see if this survivor will spark interest. I think you've got yourself a decent amount of replies already so you should go ahead and get going.

I think you should do Greatest album, most people don't have a favourite song, just my opinion

Not a bad idea either.

Yeah you are prolly right Ignatus. Since Genisis agreeed I am outnumbered so I will go with the genereal consensus. so any more ideas for this badboy?

So far it looks like I'll start round 1 on Monday or tuesday. Wee will pick songs over 10 weeks in the following format:

Week 1 - Nominations for the 00's
Week 2 - top song from 2000-present
Week 3 - Nominations for the 90's
Week 4 - top song from 1990's
Week 5 - Nominations for the 80's
Week 6 - top song from 1980's
Week 7 - Nominations for the 70's
Week 8 - top song from 1970's
Week 9 - Nominations for the 60's
Week 10 - top song from 1960's

***Idea for consideration***
let me know what you think of this (Ignatus, Genisis anyone else)
round 11 - where we can nominate songs that didn't make it or something?
round 12 - where we can pick 1 or 2 to be added to the top 5.

Rounds 13 - Huh - vote off one at a time till we get........
