I thought this was amusing considering whom it came from and to whom it could attributed to.

---

Attention, rock 'n' rollers. Elton John is sick of your tattoos and piercings. John, who will perform at the third Fashion Rocks concert Sept. 7 at Radio City Music Hall, says he'd like American bands to adopt the cutting-edge, glam-rock style made popular by his peers.

"It's been a thing the British have always been very good at, with Bowie, myself, T.Rex, the Who, Queen. ... We all embraced that side of it," John, 59, tells Fashion Rocks magazine, on newsstands Aug. 8.

"And I think it's good that some American bands are beginning to do that, but it's still very rare for bands to make a real effort. So when you get groups like The Killers and Scissor Sisters who come along, it's thrilling. I'm so over the tattoos and the T-shirts and rings through the noses. It's not pretty, it's not pleasant, it's not exciting. Please stop it now."

John says his theatrical style, made famous in his '70s heyday, was meant "to give people a bit of fun" while he sat at the piano for long sets.

When he was starting out, his musical "heroes" ? among them George Harrison, Leon Russell, Neil Diamond and Brian Wilson ? supported his budding career. Today, John likes to mentor up-and-coming artists.

"When I hear something new that's really, really great, I ring people up and say, `I think that's a fantastic album,'" he says.

CBS will air a two-hour special on the Fashion Rocks concert Sept. 8 (9 p.m. EDT). Proceeds from the concert, which kicks off New York Fashion Week, will benefit John's AIDS foundation.

"I've been very lucky in my life," he says. "I was a drug addict for 16 years, at a time when AIDS was just getting started, and I put myself at so much risk. I came out of it negative rather than positive, and I wanted to do something to give back."

I'd be happy with GOOD MUSIC regardless of what they were wearing or what piercings they had.

Is that too much to ask for?

Elton is basically talking about the shitty emo and nu-metal bands out there today.  The pussy bands like GC and Fall Out Boy....the kids who wear the whole sleeve tattoos and have the lip rings.  I personally agree with him......some of those "glam" artists put out some of the best music ever and rocked the hell out.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

absolutely...the ones that follow the trends can also be added to that list, the copiers, the ones that refuse to do anything original and instead play to a certain section of people...Elton may have been over the top, cheesy, glam, gay but he always tried to do something completely different.  Not so with the current generation of rock stars, pop stars whatever...there seems to be a 100 bands or more in every genre doing the same thing...there are few, if any, major stars anymore.

Watch T Minus Rock on MTV2, its a hard rock countdown and its on often and if you have a DVR you should record it once at least just to check out whats new.  I know there's a lot of younger fans on this site, so you may already be familiar with many of the bands that are on the show, but I hardly knew any of them.  Most of the bands look and sounds the same (although I guess thats always been the case - same thing many people said about 80s metal, 90s grunge).  The difference for me though is that the bands of today are so boring and completely lack any sense of danger.  All tattoos and piercings cannot make up for the fact that these bands are mostly a bunch of mama's boys that got discovered via myspace or some shit.

danger...its all been done before hasnt it...im sure the cobain fans were happy with the danger until he committed suicide...im sure if slash or axl died, most of us would rather have him alive...so i dont care about danger anymore...i prefer my heros flamboyant, talented and alive

i think there was far more distinction in the 80's than there is currently...and i find it sad that possible great bands of the future are consigned to a second rate music channel that is designed for a minority...brushing them into a corner i think...now if only hip hop and dance music would go away i would be muchos happy
