Title: Offical "Slither" Lyrics
Post by: Thorned Rose on April 09, 2004, 03:56:44 PM
Slither

Hey Hey Hey

When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen, broken every single time

Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you would (sue) me
But I see sometime pleasure in my mind

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you'll see

Hey hey hey

When you seek me you destroy me
Rip my mind and smell the poppy's
Fallen blood in every single time

Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you might linger
But I see sometime the pleasure in my mind

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you'll see

Like holy water
it only runs you past you
then you ever try
This time with me

(guitar solo)

When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen and broken
Every single time

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you see

Like holy water
It only runs you past you
then you ever try
This time with me

Hey, hey, hey

Thanks.... good lyrics when you read them with the song, it makes the song better.

GO VR!!!!!!!!!

God... just like Set Me Free... VERY weak lyrics... alot of this doesn't really mean anything. I used to think Weiland was a good idea... now i just think VR sucks because great music will not save them from the fact that weak lyrics just make everything blow hard.

Most, if not all of the lyrics in GNR's music meant something, and few things made you think "What the hell?"... these lyrics arent even deep.... just trash thrown together.

Anyway, here are the lyrics as I hear them, and I believe them to be the most accurate...

Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, I fell to my knees
Fallen, broken every single time

Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you would soon be
Might see some type of pleasure in my mind

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you'll see

Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

When you seek me you destroy me
Rape my mind and smell the poppies
Bone and bloodied every single time

Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you might linger
Might see some type of pleasure in my mind

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you'll see

Like holy water
It only burns you faster
Than you ever try
This time with me

When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, I fell to my knees
Bone and bloodied
Every single time

Yeah here comes the water
It comes to wash away
The sins of you and I
This time you see

Like holy water
It only burns you faster
Than you ever try
This time with me

Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

I think Booker Floyd pretty much has it, except I think the first verse is more like:

When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen, broken every single time

Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you were to me
Might see some type of pleasure in my mind

---

I think the song makes perfect sense if you are familiar with Weiland's life. Looks like he's singing about his struggle with heroin. About how he's "fallen, broken" every time he does it. About how there's still "pleasure in [his] mind" with it.

The only part I'm not confident in is what or who is the "water" which burns away his addiction. Maybe rehab. Maybe Mary.

Anyway, that's my take on the song.

LOL.

Weak?  You're kidding right.

Anyway lyrics are not essential for every song.  Take Led Zepplin for an example.

True, but great lyrics can lift a song to another level.

Personally I like songs with a good melody and good lyrics.

Most of my favorite artists do write great lyrics (GN'R, U2, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails etc etc).

Yes i agree, however not 'every' song requires great lyrics.  ( i mean my world, get in the ring and shot gun blues - do not have great lyrics)

But i am sure contraband will have great lyrics in it.

What is your opinion of the lyrics - i agree with brill27 about the meaning.

Sorry to point this out NOW ... but are you implying that even though My World didn't have good lyrics it was a good song?

Or just mentioning a few random songs with Bad Lyrics ... of which My World was a contender for top spot?

I thought Weiland was a bad idea from the start.  I just want to hear Matt, Duff, and Slash jam some GNR shit live though, so I'll deal with a subpar vocalist who cant write shit for lyrics.

I think the lyrics are great. I always liked Scott's lyrics.  They are far from "shit". Anyway, great stuff can't wait to hear the whole album!!!
